They even invented the first steam engine; unfortunately it was more of an experimental toy, than a push for adapting technology

Quebecois: A Nation Within Canada
DarthTex replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Outside Interests
Well ... maybe just Miami, but not the whole state Illegal Mexicans in southern California or Texas can't vote luckily, but that doesn't mean they don't have influence. I saw some anti-gov't immigration fanatics saying "we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" What a bunch of ma-roons Tibet on the other hand was invaded and conquered by the Chicom's (communist Chinese) without provocation. They (the Tibetans) should get their country back Taiwan is a great example E, just to a more extreme. -
It was always there Def ... maybe you've been away a little too long (and maybe had a memory crash of your own?)

Quebecois: A Nation Within Canada

Question 1: If Quebec becomes its own "state", what's the difference between a "state" or "province" in Canada? Question 2: If the rest of Canada gets pissed off at Quebec (which seems unlikely in that most Canadians are stereo typed as being pacifists nationally, but gun-ho locally), couldn't they just threaten Quebec which would result in their (French Canadians) surrender? -
Hey Def, welcome back! And look at that ... one more post for "General". Glad things are going OK workwise; working for $ is long and tedious, but as they say "it pays the bills" (or at least some of them)

I believe Boca burgers are made from the same ingredients as ... Soylent Green!

Yeah Rob, I know what you mean. Warsie? Kinda makes me think of a flamin' warmonger redneck; not a pretty sight. There used to be a thread about this exact subject, but I don't think a concensus was made for a "Star Wars fan" term

Well, what can I say; I'm an old timer whose seen them all. Of course I have to vote for Kirk, he set the standard for space naval commanders of the future. Picard, although a good captain in his own right, is only continuing in the footsteps of those before him. TOS didn't have all of the graphical special effects as STNG, but yet had such a following to keep the genre going until it was revived with movies & new TV series. Impressive! At least Gene Roddenberry didn't suffer from delusions of grandeur like Lucas, and try to re-make everything and change everything show-to-show or movie-to-movie (well, there were minor changes here or there, i.e. Klingon makeup)

And now for something completely different ... The gunslingers of the Ol' West would be envious ... Fast Shot and Fastest Gun In The West This is quite hilarious. I've seen it before, but it was awhile ago ... Japanese Street Magician

And what do you call all of those "critters" that make milk and cheese all over the country, especially in Wiz-kahn-sun (Wisconsin). And what in the world are cowboys doing ... roundin' up cats? FLASHBACK. Well, you know what I mean

That started off quite nicely Krytos, but you should have added a disclaimer that the linked video is 1 and a half hours long! . I think I'll watch it later, when time permits

That was hilarious Try an air race next

The first half of this is rather slow, but the second half is hilarious Tie-Tanic Hope you enjoyed as much as I did

(*** the sounds of the wind, and rustling leaves drift off and disappear. A lone dog howls low and long, then fades. Not a single bird or keyboard can be heard for miles around ... The silence is deafening ***)

That's exactly what I think of that show. Sounds like that girl was giving the show its rating How can you watch that $h!t? Sounds like you would be better off playing a game of Rebellion than wasting your time with "Flubber of Luv"

Star Wars: The Best of PC (5 games for $39.99)
DarthTex replied to budious's topic in Outside Interests
[rant] I have to agree with JH here. The greatest Star Wars games for the personal computer aren't entirely listed . How about our favorite ... Rebellion (Supremacy)? What about X-wing, Tie Fighter, X-wing vs Tie Fighter? I think those money grubbing lazy $h!t heads are trying to get rid of the surplus of those "other" games. I've never played XWA (X-wing Alliance), but heard it was pretty good, and some fan group actually "re-did" Tie Fighter using the XWA engine! But alas, even XWA is dumped With todays graphics and software/hardware advances, all of the "old" games would be so kick arse! They should come take a look at the SWR threads for improving Rebellion (Supremacy) to get an idea on how good and exciting the game is and could be. I can only hope and pray ... [/rant] -
In the vernacular of the local young whipper-snappers, I'm "older than dirt"

"When 900 years old you are, look as good you will not" - Yoda Hey nice trick . I'm going to have to find one of those there special effects guys . (Now, could they make me pass for my mid-to-late thirties? ) I haven't read the books, but have heard they are pretty good. I like dragons; ever since my last pet dragon passed away, oh so many, many years ago . My personal favorite is Smaug from The Hobbit; other favorite dragons are from Terry Brook's Magic Kindom For Sale series, and Joel Rosenburg's Guardians of the Flame series. Both excellent reads

Eureka! We've hit Pay Dirt! Following is an e-mail from Master Xan. He says he sent the same e-mail to several people who contacted him, so I don't think he would mind sharing this with the rest of the SWR members ... I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I; and let's keep MX in our thoughts for the next two years (I'm sure he'll appreciate it)

The electoral college has one important thing: equality for the states. Without it, and only using a "popular vote" system, presidential candidates would only campaign in the top ten populus states (I don't know what states populations are, but I'm just saying the top ten as an example). Then the opinions of the other 40 states are worth diddly-squat. At least with the electoral college some of the smaller states get a visit or two (albiet brief) from presidential candidates. Because with the latest US presidential elections, just about every vote counts! Having a third political party would be nice, but more than that creates chaos. Other countries with multitudes of parties have to form coalitions to run the gov't. When one faction gets pissed because they got the short end of the stick, they call for a "no confidence" vote. Then they withdraw their support, and new coalitions have to be formed. Nothing ever gets done because everybody is worried about staying "in power". That part works for every gov't official

What am I wrong about TacoJoe? I know they have plenty of mech mini's, I said: The key word being "I" (I think I would know better than someone else how many mech mini's I have)
-
Well, here's your chance Rob: Iron Wind Metals Online!. These guys used to be the Ral Partha minitures back in the 80's. They have lots of new, and some old stuff. Or check around for a local gaming shop to see what they have available. I don't think I have any BattleTech miniatures, but I have a lot of Ral Partha fantasy characters/monsters It definitely helps if you have someone or a group to play with

You are absolutely correct Krytos, Battletech was the game. Now I'm going to have to dig through the attic looking for all of my Battletech stuff. The best game I remember playing is having my mech (I don't remember the names of most of them) with 2 PPC's standing in a shallow lake (great for heat dissipation), and covered by an Archer with long range missiles on a nearby hill. My friend was trying to force me out into the open with a pair of Thunderbolts. The Archer's long range missiles scored first doing minimal damage, but it was a constant barrage as the Thunderbolts were trying to move to their optimal range. My mech with the PPC's opened up doing sore good damage, but I was starting to get pummeled myself. Then I got a lucky head shot and took out one of the Thunderbolts; my friend was pissed. He retreated and I spent the rest of the game chasing him down. Because of terrain, it was difficult to keep the 2-to-1 advantage on him. I eventually won, but lost my PPC mech. Basically I sacrificed it to do as much damage as possible so the Archer could then take it out. Even then it was still tough (he kept trying to run away) Not really, they have some basic rules and such, but once you play a game or two it becomes second nature

that much... i would probably fall asleep in most my classes if i were majoring in history.. Well' date=' not all history is action packed like a Hollywood movie. Napolean was a very interesting guy, and some of his "battle tactics" were quite ingenius. I saw a documentary on one particular battle somewhere in Austria (I guess) during the winter against the Russian army. The Russians occupied a hill on the battlefield with a good overlooking view of everything, and Napolean wanted that hill! So, he took another hill (not quite so high) off to their side. He defended that hill like crazy from the Russians. They (the Russians) decided Napolean knew something and he really needed that hill, so they were determined to take it from him (Napolean could really care less about the hill, he just wanted the "other" hill). When the Russians went for the mass attack on Napolean, he started retreating (on purpose). Secretly, he sent half his forces under the cover of darkness to mount an attack on the "high hill". When the first part of the battle concluded, the Russians had taken Napolean's hill, but he had now taken the "high hill". And then with the cannons he brought along, he decimated the Russians on their "new" hill. The Russian Imperial guard counter attacked and were effectively wiped out. As the Russians retreated, Napolean continually hounded them. The Russians were forced to cross a frozen lake or face capture by the French Army. As they crossed the frozen lake, Napolean had the lake shelled by cannon, causing most of the Russian Army to drown. He was quite the genius. I just hoped I recounted that correctly (my copy of that [i']old[/i] newspaper is seriously "yellow" and some of the ink is fading. I think it cost 1 cent at the time ) Keep up the faith Rob! It's always nice to have options.
