  1. Roh No, Scooby Doo! Cartoonist Who Created Scooby-Doo Dies Thanks for all of the adventures . Have a great big Scooby snack in the sky on me, pardner
  2. Wow J, that brings back memories I embarassed to admit I never got to play Traveller, but I did do alot of Car Wars and AD&D though As for my screen name ... that should be obvious
  3. (** after driving for an hour in my pickup on the local highway **) "Well, where the heck is everyone? This is Victoria ... Texas that is. Dang nabbit, another wild goose chase " Anyone else go to the wrong "Victoria" Don't be silly, Melbourne is a county in Florida near where I live. It's also a little town near the Ohio River in Kentucka (Kentucky that is, without the Texan drawl ).
  4. Have you ever considered running for the Galatic Senate, or maybe even Supreme Chancellor? j/k @SOCL: I realized that; good point
  5. Well, you would be wrong. I might not like it, but there's really nothing I could do about it (except tolerate it or whine). Freedom of Speech is a double-edged sword. As they say "Don't dish it out if you can't take it", and after all of these years I've developed a thick skin (so to speak, well ... mostly)
  6. I really don't want to become involved, but I feel a need to say something: there is a distinct difference between Muslims and Islamists.OK, I didn't know that. What is the difference? You're correct, it does seem petty. "please be mindful and sensitive of others on these forums and making generalizations"; WOW ! As moderator SOCL, that should give you a full time job for life. It might be easier shutting down the Outside Interests thread and banning Tofu. There's no way to enforce PC (political correctness) without becoming an oppressor. Just look at Dark Officer (aka SS Officer) and his avatar; brow beaten by a few after being tolerated by hundreds (if not thousands) of SWR members over the last couple of years. I'm not saying his choice was the best, but it was others who saw offense in it and harassed him into change. I guess GAT (Grand Admiral Thrawn) is next ... he's got Admiral Donitz in his signature block There is always someone, somewhere who will find offense with something, somewhere on this website. Nobody said they were or are, especially me; I don't even know your friends or family. And I believe I said "immigrating", definitely not "invading"
  7. There are eye-wittnesses, who lived in Penemuende, who told about a huge flashlight over the Northern Sea. Experts say that this kind of flashlight must have been from a nuclear test. That was about the time after the invasion of the Normandie as allied troops hadn´t reached the Rhine yet. You may remember that lots of german engeneers, who took a lot of secret documents with them, later were involved in the Manhattan Project. In all of my years I've never heard of a "huge flashlight over the Northern Sea". If it was a nuclear test, I'm sure the whole world would have been told. Your paragraph implies that German engineers brought secret documents to the US after D-Day. I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but that's not the case. German scientists came to the US in the 30's. The Manhatten project was well on its way by D-Day and didn't require any secret documents from Penemuende. Why not? A dictator is a dictator. Is there a difference if only a couple of million people were killed instead of 20+ million? In my opinion he's a dictator. He treated his people just as brutally. Mustard gas in grenades? That sounds as practical an atomic hand grenade (you better be a pretty darn fast sprinter ). The mustard gas I was referring to was found in artillery shells. You pay that little Tex? Hell, there's always the long run, the more so given how much modern Russia is exerting it's economic clout over pipelines into Europe, tax with former block states, etc. Plus Nigeria is ever the spackoid unreliable African state, and Venezuela seems to want to swiftly become one.. /just my rant fellas I agree that Saddam wasn't a military threat. But then why pursue WMD research? Why deny the UN verifications? And you are correct about the "very handsome oil revenue" that was going into his pockets, even though it was supposed to be for humanitarian purposes. But instead it became bribe money for hundreds of political worms so Saddam could get whatever he wanted (legal or not). If Saddam knew he was military inferior, why not strike back through a third party? Terrorists? Who's to say they wouldn't have received help from Saddam (financially, training, etc)? Europe definitely has alot more to worry about than the US from muslims. They seem to be immigrating that way by the hordes and slowing taking over neighborhoods and ways of life. The riots in France, the bombings in London; what's next? Good luck to you guys over the pond. Yeah J, gas has always been relatively cheap over here compared to Europe. You guys should really be the ones complaining loudly
  8. I saw that on the History Channel; I believe it was Secret Weapons of America. Of course there was Secret Weapons of ... Germany, Japan, Britain, Russia ... Some pretty unusual and far fetched stuff. From what I remember the bat bomb was perfected and ready for mass production when it was canceled. At least the bats didn't have to die in vain
  9. Actually, Nazi Germany was no where near as far along developing the A-bomb as the Allies thought. The main German focus of using "heavy water" from Norway was actually taking them down the wrong path to developing the A-bomb. So, technically (in hindsight, after going through German papers after the war), Nazi Germany would have needed a dozen more years to get the A-bomb (if they ever got back on the right track). Saddam DID have weapons of "mass destruction". What do you think killed all of those Kurds (Iraqi citizens mind you)? Just because he used VX nerve gas or mustard gas on his own people, instead of an A-bomb doesn't change the signifcance. Oh, and he did use gas weapons (weapons of mass destruction) on Iran during their little 10 year war. So, he's used gas weapons at least twice before in his past, and then says "I don't have weapons of mass destruction". Are you really naive enough to believe him? Even if he did destroy them all (which he wouldn't let the UN verify), I still wouldn't believe him for a plug nickel. Now, what about the munitions that were recovered that were still loaded with mustard gas (a weapon of mass destruction)? What, you maybe didn't hear about this? Now why is that? Maybe the media didn't give it top notch billing like "ANOTHER SOLDIER DIED! Oh my, Bush is leading the world to oblivion! (** boo who, boo who I'm crying with fear **)". And what about the Russian convoy that left Iraq going to Syria days before the invasion began? Maybe a Russian somebody spilled the beans to Saddam that the US is coming and doesn't believe anything he's saying anymore; that invasion is imminent. Well you better get your crap (weapons of mass destruction) out of the country ASAP, so that in the future (should you survive) you can throw this in their face and try to get some support from your people (Sunni that is). I'm sure with the Billions of dollars Saddam scammed from the UN Food-for-Oil folly, he paid off the Ruskies to "help him out". Hell, the insurgents are doing a better job in the last 4 years, than Saddam's entire military power over the last 15 years against the US (and most of them have to sneak into the country from Syria and Iran; fanatics). "Oil", that's all a big hype thrown out by cry babies. If it was all about "oil", then why the hell isn't the price of gas in the US down to about 25 cents a gallon instead of a couple of bucks ($2+)? If the US wanted, it would be pumping Iraq dry quicker than snot to get that oil ASAP and hiding it all over America to use in the future, wouldn't you think? Rant's over, gotta go ...
  10. If it does, you can blame the newly elected (liberal?) Democrats who are already pushing for it! As for the negative media hype mentioned earlier about the 3,000th US soldier fatality; compare this conflict with about any other major conflict in the past US history (history for most) and you'd be surprised by the opposite . For the US on June 6, 1944 (the Battle of Normandy) had approximately over 29,000 dead over a period of a month or two; quite the difference between 29,000 vs 3,000, and two months vs ~3.75 years. It's not exactly comparing duplicate situations; it's probably closer to comparing apples-to-oranges. I personally think the coalition forces are doing an outstanding job, and are doing lots of positive things the (negative lefty) media doesn't report on (you know ... bad news sells papers, good news doesn't). Check out the "other side of the coin" Interesting tidbit there Tofu
  11. Although I've already changed my avatar back to the "normal" version, I'll post the Christmas version for effect ... http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/3563/darthtexchristmasrp8.jpg and Thanks for the nomination
  12. ... George "Ebeneezer" Lucas? It does have a "ringle jingle" sound (ref. the Mr. Magoo Christmas) to it
  13. I liked the pics too ... there were comments? I guess I'll have to go back and read them
  14. My favorite character is Sandy. Yeehaw!
  15. It's not that hard, so it must be something you're missing. First bring up the screen (system or fleet) that has the captured character (the character can NOT be in hyperspace, the blue/white stripes in the character background?). Then bring up the screen (system or fleet) that has your infiltrators. Select how many infiltrators you want (make sure you don't select other spec forces, but you can select characters). Right click on the selected infiltrators (or characters if chosen), and select mission. Move the "bullseye" cursor on the captured character, and left click. The mission screen should automatically say "RESCUE". So, my guess if it's not working: 1) like J said, you changed something in RebEd, 2) the captured character is in hyperspace, or 3) some other spec force is being included with the infiltrators, which can't perform the mission. Try again and list out exactly what you are doing. Go for the gory details, what do you have to lose? A character that is capable of Training Troops, needs to be selected to perform a mission on a system that has a "troop training facility" (regular or advanced). This provides for advancement of troop types later in the game.
  16. DarthTex

    Ewok?

My guess is that is a "special" (easter egg) situation, where Endor is under Imperial rule and has a rebel uprising put down. This screen would only show up for this situation (sorta like Luke and the Toschi Station audio clip when on Tantooine) Just my two bits worth.
  17. I believe there was one (Greek restaurant) that might have been called ... Poseidon? I'm not sure if that was the one on Mullheimer Strasse (sorry about the spelling, I don't have the correct German alphabet ) or not, but I have been to a couple. I'm an aerospace engineer and did some work over at Jet Aviation at the airport (of course)
  18. Yes, but not the way you're thinking. I've been to Basel on business awhile back and stayed at local village inn's in Germany (Haltingen, Otlingen & Fischingen) all just down the street from Weil am Rhien, and in Basel, and in France (Blotzheim) Been there (Weil am Rhien) and driven through quite a few times (there's a nice Greek restaurant there, but I can't remember the name right now ) Fun times
  19. In Rebellion the AI attacks the "most powerful" ship in your fleet. If you let this (your) ship "sit", the enemy ships have to run the gauntlet of your other ships to get to it. But at least the AI fires on these ships until it gets into weapons range. I don't necessary like this; I mean why force your way into the middle of an enemy fleet and be attacked on all sides? Theoretically, if I don't need full power to aft shields because I'm attacking the "leading edge" of the enemy fleet (they're all in front of me), that would mean extra power available to weapons! Plus the enemy wouldn't want his (relatively) weaker ships being attacked against a more powerful enemy ship and would be forced to bring up his more powerful ships to slug it out, or retreat. Definitely better ship combat tactics are needed, and somehow this would all have to tie into an Admiral's stats (assuming one is in command). I like the idea of splitting ship fire over multiple targets, but only if it makes sense. If all systems on an enemy ship are down or just crucial ones, why keep firing until it's a hulk? This would be the time to start firing on another target while trying to disable the remaining active ship systems of the initial target. There are weapons on the forward/aft/starboard/port sides of ships, why not be able to attack a target in (let's say) two of the four directions (remember the weapons recharge rate is fixed, so it will take longer to "reload" between shots when there are more targets)? This could be optional at the discretion of the player/AI. PS Yeehaw, I just made Admiral (again)
  20. I'm just a simple cow hand; I just use the .BMP with the appropriate background Of course, all of the cards I made were lost in the Great Crash of 2006. Some day I'll re-submit them
  21. I thought you lived in Germany Eagle? Basel is in Switzerland (Mad's country, of course he's in Geneva). Do you live in a nearby small village or over by Lorrach? What is your current job?
  22. Hey, guess what, Mad? You should look at the word "you're." You might want to make that second letter lower case. Ahh, feels great to BEAK and spam again. Don't forget the "e" at the end of desire
  23. You lucky dog! http://img486.imageshack.us/img486/3068/jennifertigerdressay2.jpg
  24. You are talking about "Miami Vice"?
  25. For cards, I thought the file had to be a bitmap (.BMP) and you had to make sure you used the same color palette as the other Rebellion (original) cards? I use Paint Shop Pro (actually an "old" version, but it still works! Plus I know how to use it, mostly; as compared to those new fangled versions with so many darn buttons and pull down menus it becomes a real pain in the arse to use ). Sorry about the rant
