  1. Yes, we've all seen Dr. Weird from Aquateen, but please stop spamming. Repeatedly posting is more likely to get you ignored than get a response. I also don't recommend starting your post with all caps unless its something worthwhile. Use the "edit" button to change your posts in the future.
  2. It sucked that we didn't go about it the right way, but I'm glad that we colonized America and founded the country. I wish we'd held our treaties and didn't commit all those massacres, but I am a believer in Social Darwinism to a degree. The European culture was technologically superior to the native cultures, and I believe that the world as a whole benefitted from the Europeans taking over. Its regrettable that we killed the natives rather than buying the land and learning from them. Consider that the natives and Europeans had a relatively equal amount of time to develop technology and improve the standard of living. With all the warfare that both Europeans and Native Americans had, the natives' technology didn't greatly increase for some reason. Unlike the "natural paradise" that we're led to believe existed in pre-columbian times, there was actually much death and bloodshed due to wars and a lack of medicinal treatment. Considering their stagnation of technology and the colonist's advancement in technology, can we really say that we should have left them alone? This isnt just about America, either. Other countries have created amazing advances in science as a result of the worldwide power jockeying by Britain and America in the late 1800s through WW2 and beyond. I suppose that the end result justifies what we did, but it doesn't make the slaughter ethically right. (I realize this isnt the politically correct answer. If you would like to flame me or debate this with me, please PM me about it so we dont turn this thread into a debate)
  3. You were 7 when Pokemon first came out, so I don't really know if you knew how to play it as well as I did. The GBA games are really fun, and perfect for those long car trips. You're right in that its a waste of time, but so is hanging out on the forums all day long for a 7 year old game, as is spending hours making mods for it. The point is that its amusing and harmless to others. 50 years from now, Reloaded will be long gone, as will Pokemon and many other things we enjoy, yet we do them for our amusement (and in Reloaded's case, to provide amusement to others). So, playing a video game is simply for amusement, whether its Star Wars: Rebellion or Pokemon. Its true that many people spent lots of money on Pokemon products, and that may be a difference. Then again, how much is amusement worth? If you spend your own money and get enjoyment out of the object, then its worth it. "Money is only money until you spend it." But what if your parents pay for it...? Look at the reloaded team. Most likely, they work as hard as they do for two reasons: for their own amusement and sense of satisfaction, and to provide amusement to others. They do all this work and receive no monetary reward, yet rather than call them idiots or morons, we praise them and tell them to keep up the good work. They like our praise and as Evaders has shown us by banning Plo Koon after he criticized the project, are very offended by criticism. In short, they think that all the hard work that they are doing is worthwhile if YOU, the player, appreciates it. Hm...how does this relate to the topic ? Parents wait in line for days or hours because they get the same sense of satisfaction from seeing their kid open an X-Box 360 as the Reloaded team will when we download their project. Things that we have no interest in (Pokemon to Tofu) don't make sense to us, yet the truth is that our interests often appear equally strange to others. If you couldn't be bothered to read all that, just take this away--waiting in line for an Xbox or in my case for a pokemon, isnt a sign of stupidity, but rather a sign that they love their hobby as much as you do.
  4. I waited in line for 2 hours back in 1999 when Nintendo was giving away a rare pokemon that would only be available on that day. At least they waited for something with cash value. Oh well. I got my Mew! Muahaha!
  5. Sad to see you go, BS. You were one of the more sane people around here. I should note, however, that you shouldn't try to replace any friends you have online with ones in real life, but rather add RL friends to your existing ones. Dropping from the forums entirely won't do you any more good than say, cutting the time you spend here by half or two thirds or so. That way you have time to make RL friends and still meet with your online friends.
  6. The rebs are definately the better side, in my opinion. Better starfighters, enough diplomats to get what you need, as well as faster research ability with Wedge. While the Imps start with better ships, they are easily sabotaged in the early game, or destroyed when the rebels obtain superior ships in the mid game. My record for winning a HQ victory is 35 days as the rebs. Only reason to play the Empire is because they're cooler. I love Star Destroyers
  7. Ferrion Caxo for the NR if you tone his leadership down to 80 (assuming we're still using the original scale). I like the name and the 1984ish death of his family is neat. Zeolay Cintheron for the Empire. I know she's my character, but I just like the idea of someone who's whole existance is a lie. She doesn't know she's an Imperial Agent, and might not even know she's a droid.
  8. Again, this reinforces what a poor Emperor Palpatine was. A heck of a Sith Lord, a crappy emperor. He put all his eggs in one basket with the Death Star (two baskets w/ the Executor). Imagine Vader in charge of the Empire anyway--it just wouldn't work. Palpatine had military leaders and hitmen in the running for succession, but no one who was skilled in politics, like he was. Tofu suggests that Palpatine just didn't care what happened after he died, and perhaps that is correct. It would certainly explain why he never bothers to keep apprentices. However, we had earlier thought that the purpose of the Empire was to destroy the Jedi. The Imperial Admirals, who believed the Jedi to be an "ancient religion" would not be on the lookout for them, and Vader just isnt capable of all the political necessities of running an Empire. It seems that in the end, Palpatine was just a very greedy man who wanted power and used the Dark Side as a means to get that power. If thats the case, then I'm disappointed. Very few people rise to power for the sake of power itself. I had hoped that Palpy was a more robust character than that, but it seems that he really might be the stereotypical "evil overlord."
  9. No one could have made an empire better than Palpatine, but I think someone could have ran it better. Without an adequate chain of command, the whole thing went kaput after 20 or 30 years. As evil as the empire was, it was only a drop in the bucket compared to the 10,000 year old Republic. The Republic lasted through Kun's rebellion, plus that whole mess in KOTOR. The Empire gets slagged due to a few rebels and one Jedi. Palpatine may have been an excellent creator, but he wasn't much of a sustainer.
  10. Looks better than my first attempt at splining =/. Can't wait to see what you can do with textures.
  11. Okay, I want to put my production logo (Turkworks productions) at the end of the "Coolhand" logo. How do I go about doing that? thanks
  12. Exactly. Everyone hates Jar-Jar. So what if they hated him SO much that it completely destroyed Palpatine's plans? Would the empire not form, or would Sidious bounce back and win with the droid army? Its not about whether it was likely to happen, but just what it if DID
  13. Okay, time for round 2! Attack of the Clones: Jar-Jar Binks stood on his floating platform, addressing the senate, everyone listening intently to what he had to say. "And thats-a why mesa thinks wesa should grant Emergency Powers to Chancellor Palpatine!" Everyone fell silent. They looked around at each other, nervously. Then, in a thunderous roar of disapproval, they boo Jar-Jar off the senate floor. A scandal erupts in the Republic, long the bastion of democracy and freedom. How could Chancellor Palpatine use an established war hero like Jar-Jar Binks to further his own plans? A hearing is called, and Palpatine is brought before a senate hearing committee. "These are trying times, and the Republic cannot afford to debate while the Separatists tear this Republic in two!" said the chancellor, pleading his case before the panel. "This was nothing more than a bid for power, and your behavior is a stain on the good name of the Republic! This senate committee hereby impeaches and removes you from your position in the senate." And with that, Palpatine no longer stands among the representatives of the largest lawmaking body of the universe. What happens?
  14. (I dont know what the books say, but that would make sense, since I don't see Maul being able to do the negotiating that Dooku did.)
  15. It could be that the cantina was so used to blaster fights that Wuher just put up some blaster-proof walls. Maybe be bought some salvaged ship armor from Jawas and painted over it
  16. West Virginia.
  17. several of the older EU books were made before Rebellion came out. The Zahn trilogy, whatever Daala's first appearance was in, as well as those other imperial officers that dont make the cut in the movie. You're probably right in assuming that the later novels used Rebellion to guage the power of ships, but Rebellion still doesn't follow canon in terms of how many lasers ships have and what tractor beams and such can do. This was probably intentional to speed up the combat though.
  18. Thats probably correct. However, SSD's dont have 500 turbolasers in front either. Rebellion doesn't always stick with the EU for its battle mechanics
  19. So you believe that the empire was a means to annhilate the Jedi? That makes sense
  20. Here's an idea that I had. I want to see if it pans out. I'll open up with something that happens in Star Wars, but change something (like in the Star Wars Infinities comic). Then, people reply with what the consequences would be in the form of a story! Once the story either ends or people stop posting on it, we'll move to another "what-if". Sound fun? Lets give it a try! Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace Qui-Gon Jin sat down and meditated as the red rayshield created the only barrier between him and the menacing Sith, Darth Maul. He knew he wouldn't survive, but he had to weaken the Sith enough for his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, to defeat. "That boy IS the Chosen One, no matter what the council says" he thought to himself. "If he reaches his potential, he can bring balance to the force. What is my life compared to that?" The rayshield rotated and the fight began anew. Now trapped in the rayshield, Obi-Wan watched as Qui-Gon struggled to defeat the menacing Zabrak. The Sith's lightsabre style was a perfect fusion of quarterstaff and martial arts techniques. Obi-Wan could only stare in horror as the Sith eventually found the advantage and pierced through his master. Finally the rayshield lifted, and Obi-Wan began his dance of death with the Darth. Again, Maul seemed to have the advantage. Obi-Wan soon found himself hanging on for dear life from the edge of the reactor room in which they were fighting, Maul waiting above him, ready to pounce like a cat. He saw Obi-Wan's lightsabre. "I won't let master Qui-Gon down!" Using the Force, he pulled the sabre to him, and lept up, igniting his sabre. Before he could even hit the floor, Maul turned his blade and swiftly cut Obi-Wan in two. "I had the high ground." Maul sneered, and walked past the two Jedi corpses. What happens next?
  21. From what I've seen, they only seem to slow enemy sublight movement down. The enemy is still able to rotate, fire, and enter into hyperspace while under a tractor beam.
  22. I'm not sure of the specifics, but a torrent is a type of file that can be read by programs such as Bitlord and Bittorrent. Essentially, a person puts a zip, rar, or iso file in a torrent directory, and puts up a torrent link for it. Anyone who has that link can download the the entire game from the other person's computer. Using this method, it is possible to get any PC game or computer application that you could want for free. Its also highly illegal, but the odds of getting caught are slim since most torrents are rather underground, and unable to be found on a search engine by the casual observer
  23. I'm going to be honest here. Evaders is probably gonna hate me for it, but the giving of information is important: 1) Torrents do exist for this game. I've seen at least 4. 2) Cain, I believe, has a no-cd patch. You could PM him and ask for it. 3) Perhaps someone could make a .zip file of their MDATA folder and send it to you. You wouldnt need the patch then, as it would play. The way I see it, we're all modders here. While Lucasarts may be happy to ignore our work, its still copywrite infringement. You know how you can do it, but its up to you whether you want to use the above methods or buy the CD. I recommend buying the CD so you'll be able to install it as often as you like.
  24. This thought occurred to me. The Emperor was around 50-60 years old. I'm going to say 55 in Phantom Menace and 65-70 (forgot how long the Ep.2-3 gap was) in Episode II when he becomes the emperor. Even if I'm off by 10 years, it doesnt really matter. My question is, why would Palpatine want to build an empire? Here are my thoughts: He's so smart that he's able to orchestrate the war, and hold an Empire for 20 years. The whole thing seems to well planned for the purpose of sitting on a throne saying "Overlord! Overlord! OVERLORD!!!!" He had to have had a reason to do it. He uses his apprentices, teaching them only what they need to serve him, then discarding them. This seems to say that he doesn't want to strengthen the Sith, but that he uses his Sith powers and apprentices as a means to some other end. Does he believe that the universe would benefit under one ruler with almighty power? That under an empire, the universe would be more secure, and overall, a better place? Perhaps, but we don't get the impression that he's trying to make the galaxy a better place from his time in the senate. Is he xenophobic and the Empire is a means to quash/suppress alien races? Again, possibly. However, most of the mention of the Empire's xenophobia stems from the Expanded Universe, likely drawing from the fact that all of the Imperial Officers were white male humans. However, The Prequel trilogy refutes this by having Palpy have an alien apprentice and his senate aids were all alien. In the expanded universe, we discover Palpatine has clones all over the place. By using the EU we can conclude that he intended to rule forever. In the movies alone, however, its pretty obvious that Palpy doesnt have long to live in ROTJ. His second in command is his apprentice, and I doubt Vader could be a bureacrat. So, why do you think he started the empire?
  25. I may be able to help here. Are you using 16-bit WAV files? If no, use them. If yes, continue on. When you try to replace sounds, do you get a menu that says "Resource Type", "Resource Name" "Resource Language"? If so, the line is "WAVE", the second line is the file number, and the last line is "1033". See if that works.
