  1. It's pretty much the same as with XP, you select a file or group of files, right click on them and go to properties. There should be a tab labelled "Compatibility", go to that. If there isn't it just means that the file type doesn't need a compatibility mode. There's a drop down list of the different compatibility modes, select XP SP2. This article should be more helpful, including the compatibility wizard.
  2. Hmm, strange. Sinister, have you tried changing files within the EaW folder to work in compatibility mode? Vista has an XP compatibility mode ... if you havn't tried it, it might work? Can't hurt to try at least
  3. Oh, but that's the fun part What modifiers do you use for texturing? I recall an old tute that used multiple UVW Mapping modifiers or something of the sort. It's easier to use a single Unwrap UVW modifier - on the modifier stack there will be a small plus symbol next to the wording for the modifier, click it and you'll be able to select sub-nodes in the way of the vertex, edge and polygon. Then using the tools on the Unwrap roll-out you can select a group of polygons to apply a planar map, or another mapping type, and then use the edit button to bring up the UVWs on an actual grid to move them around, extend them etc. Just take note, that when you select a group of polygons, press the planar button and select the axis to base it on, you need to turn OFF the planar map before you can move the co-ordinates within the edit mode. Unwrapping is the most boring part of modelling. Sometimes it's fun, like solving a puzzle fun - but I find it gets dull quick. Texturing itself can be as rewarding as modelling, and also have its just as boring moments. I've got some other models I've been working on recently that I'll post up soon
  4. I was going to suggest you go to the Petroglyph forums and ask what's happening - but they appear to be down Great timing. Darth_Malice: Is your copy of EaW the original, or the "gold" edition?
  5. Looking good Mad! There are a few ways depending on what outcome you want. The highest level of control would be to select the edges on the outside of those hull pieces (either having selection mode in edge or border mode), hold shift down and then drag the edges as if you're going to move them. This extrudes the edges along which ever way you drag them. This gives you a lot of control, and allows you to easily edit sections as you extrude - but, takes a lot longer. It's mainly used for when you need detail. For your sections, considering the shape, use the shell modifier. It's quicker and easier and still gives you some good (yet limited) control over what you're ending up with. If you're not wanting to go the higher poly option and flesh them out like these two solutions, there's always the texture route. They won't look as good as an actual bevelled edge, but you can simply add a material and select double sided - so both sides get rendered. This is done rather simply, once you've got your material in the material editor in the "Shader Basic Parameters" roll-out there's a tick box for double sided at the top. It will look flat, but at least it isn't invisible when looked at from certain angels. @Eagle: Not sure how much more detail will get added, but it will be a lot smoother where needed. It's more of an exercise than anything
  6. Nice Eagle, got a nice laugh out of me. Here's something I'vce been working on and off recently. It's and XJ X-Wing, this is more of a concept model and with any luck I'll start the high poly one soon. http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/9397/xjxwing01vx3.th.jpghttp://img68.imageshack.us/img68/1669/xjxwing02nb0.th.jpghttp://img68.imageshack.us/img68/6277/xjxwing03ep8.th.jpg http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/3392/xjxwing04cp2.th.jpghttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/6443/xjxwing05di7.th.jpghttp://img169.imageshack.us/img169/9692/xjxwing06vb7.th.jpg
  7. Well, in the new trilogy the midget showed that you can absorb force powers - which would be "Rebuke". However, he also showed it wasn't easy and the little fella seemed also to be completely focused on the attack from the old lightning rod* I don't recall there being any other proof of the Negate Energy thing in the movies except for Vader's talk to the hand stunt. If you go into the EU, though, both have been used numerous times. The "Rebuke" gets mentioned a few times by Jacen Solo in novels, not by any particular name (whilst I get listing a force power by name to explain it and easily know what it is, it kind of steals away from the whole mystical element of the Sith and Jedi using the force if they've got attacks that feel like they're out of Street Fighter and learn them as such. Surelly a force user would think of a way to use the force and mold it to that? Semantic, I know). And if you have played the Dark Forces games you'll know about Force Protect (Negate Energy) and Force Absorption (Rebuke). So, neither are new concepts, and I'd take it as you want. I'd personally say we know Vader can Negate, but wasn't really in a position to show if he could Rebuke ... damn, the Dark Force's names are easier. *For those who didn't follow - midget was Yoda, lightning rod was Dooku
  8. It's 'real time' in galactic mode, and moves on in days. In the bottom left, above the radar of the galaxy there should be something to say which day it is - near the pop cap. Also, there's a row of green dashes that increment as the day goes on. Once all bars go green it's the end of a day. When they reset to off it's the next day and you get your money. Transportation in the game takes less than a day to get anywhere (I think) - but considering the timing of everything else it doesn't really mater how many days it takes. The main purpose of the day cycle is for money collection, and early in the game you watch that bar closely so you get some more money in the bank. Hmm, all this talk about EaW has made me want to go finish my Imperial game. Side note to the game, due to the more "fun" gameplay than "cannon" Star Wars it's one of the first Star Wars games I enjoy playing as both the Empire and Rebellion Still can't play as the Empire in Rebellion or FoCom ...
  9. Where's my post from last night? Ha, must have been too tired to even post. Any who, I'm not as enthusiastic as Rob. I think it'll be a neat flick, but that's about it - far from "cannon" material, or enjoyable as the original trilogy. I'm sorta expecting a Will Smith movie here: take an existing story, add pretty looking people and camera work, a rich dollop of explosions, a ton of action, simmer for an appreciable time, eat and enjoy - but beware the hidden MSG plot line filled with cholesterol plot holes. Rinse and repeat for a series?
  10. Bugger. Well, give your room a good, thorough once over and then if no lukc sit down and give a good think to any possible location, in a CD pile, in a book, under something, might have gotten thrown in with another game or game box etc. All else fails give Lucas or whoever a shot. I've never heard anything good or easy coming from a company when you're asking for a CD key, so I'd probably leave that as a last ditch effort. Still no luck? Keep bloody looking!
  11. Not sure what to make of this kid. Some talent, I'd have liked that crap at his age. And overlly nerdy all at the same time.
  12. I think the Riddler would work the easiest, however I'd also think that he'd feel very similar to the Joker. Jim's Riddler was very campy, but then again looking at Jack's Joker - I'd hardly call him a straight edge I'd say turning the Riddler into a creepy bad guy wouldn't be too hard - the hard part is making him not feel like The Joker's brother. A lot of the "original" villains I can't see being part of this universe. Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Cat woman ... the names alone make them sounds lame. Penguin might work ... Danny's role as him was quiet cool, although the more I think about it the more I feel him as a comic book character only. It's kind of hard to imagine a lot of the characters that were portrayed in the Batman movies as a real villain anymore - they were twisted into overly colourful, stupid, childlike entertaining things. Lets just hope that the next villain doesn't have his "troops" dress up in theme with him. (Not pocking fun at Dark Knight's bad guys with clown masks, because that worked. More of the older movies where they all looked the same and similar to their boss). Perhaps it's time for a brand new villain? Both new Batman movies have left things open for regular bad guys - the mob still had some power at the end of the movie. Time will tell all. @Sin: Oh god! Please no Robin! The whole becoming 'batman' identity thing got a decent plot. How's Robin going to play out? "Oh, when I wath young I goth scared by some birdieth and I decided to ..." Lets just not go there Highlighty Good point Tofu - I'd forgotten about Gordan's little line there about doing it to keep his family safe. Can't really complain about that part too much except I'd have liked a little bit more about him deciding how he'd fake his death - sort of using the shooting at the mayor as good timing and a good reason to try. Otherwise, whist nothing said it almost sounds like when he protected the mayor it was all to plan - unless I'm forgetting another bit of the movie Argh, I remembered the other thing that made me cringe that you mentioned: reconstructing the finger print I know he's meant to be a detective, and I was intrigued at where the scene was going when he the brick out - but then it went lame. Several mini guns to fire 4 bullets, then the 3d reconstructions - argh. I'd have liked a more se7en style clue in that apartment for Batty to find. Like I said before, I'd like to see Two Face come up again. That fall was hardly enough to kill either Batman or Harvey and your little write up of his feelings and motives sounds about right to me. In fact I'd also look at him killing corrupt cops and criminals in general, his own justice to the city tied in with trying to kill Batman and Gordan. He mightn't have gotten the longest time on screen as a bad guy, but if he's gone from the story I'm still happy with how it played out.
  13. I resent that. It was not I who posted it a second time, but in fact it was the image itself which was so awesome it deemed it necessary and as such amended itself to my post. So there Tofu PS: I use to LOVE Dino-rider! Erm .. not physically love of course .. well, you know what I mean.
  14. I'm a little confused now. I, too, saw the ad at the movies - but I thought it was meant to be a series and not a movie? I'm too lazy at the moment to go browsing, so I'll leave it to the community to "educate" me
  15. It's in black I'm not too sure about Scarecrow either. The last movie left him crazy, riding on a horse with tazer electrodes sticking out of his face. Maybe he believed in good? Maybe he was being bad? That part needed some flour to thicken it. Bat-bike, not pod And yes, I too cringed at that - but it seemed like so many people liked it. Go figure? But I also cringe every time the Bat-mobile goes into weapons mode and pulls batman into that little hole. The sonar wasn't too bad. He had some small lenses cover his eyes for it, so they'd be small arse LCDs. The ultra sharp image isn't believable - but at the same time, you're unlikely to get a Hollywood movie purposely make some high tech display look "realistic". Side note, I like in Battlestar Gallactica that their displays for radar etc. are very military realistic and some designer hasn't gotten their hands on it. The phone. I find the sonar element as bad as the EMP (Not Electromagnet) concept - but, it's Batman so I gave them some lenience And I doubt once confiscated that a security guard would turn it off unless it was rung. I'd imagine you'd need a powerful EM weapon to knock out a building, buuut batman - 'nough said. And whilst in Asia, I liked the idea that they pulled Batman outside of Gotham - where the other movies had him sole in Gotham as if you was stuck there. I've not wanted to quote any lines from The Joker, in case someone reads it then sees the movie - you really need to go into it with as little known. But, as you said, it was a great character and acted as such. "The thing with the ferries was great" - for a second there, I had no idea what you were talking about. At this point in the movie, my mind is coming up with every possible way it could play out. The crim's fight the guards for the remote and blow it. The civvies do the same, or vote to blow it. The detonators were for their own boats. That the crim's would be selfless (but when that big dude grabbed it, and spoke, that idea was thrown out the window enough for me to be surprised) and die. That part, mixed in with the hostages dressed as the terrorists, was great suspense. I was thinking that the police would fire on batman. Rachel's death was probably the biggest surprise in the whole movie. After Batman said he was going for her (obviously The Joker lied because he wanted his ultimate victory with Harvey), and Harvey had his face in petrol - I figured he'd get blown up and survive at the end and there'd be the third movie. Instead his face got KFC'd and made for a perfect way to turn Harvey into Two-Face. Gordan's fake death, for me not being a huge Batman follower, had me wondering what was going on. I truly thought that the new movie was trying to go down a new and different path and show characters could die. And with the way, after his death, that the camera looked at his son - I was wondering if he'd somehow work his was to the top job..in about 20 years. What I didn't like about it, was ultimately, it seemed to me useless. Batman was used as bate, and Gordan snuck up on The Joker - did he have to pretend to be dead to do that? I'm two minds with Two-Face's end (like a lot of things in this movie). On one hand, it felt like a perfectly set up bad guy was wasted when he could have been another movie. But then, character wise, I'm not sure how this Two-Face would play out. He was pissed at those who took Rachel, I'm not sure I see him waging a war on Gotham - maybe the police, and maybe Batman. In this "universe" his character was less the Two-Face we knew but more of a new character with familiar grounds. His setup and birth were, by far, my favourite of any villain's (Why wasn't Vader more like this fallen hero?!?) and the way that he was used as a pawn by The Joker suited this movie more - The White Knight and saviour of the city being the ultimate victory by turning him evil. Still, it is a little disappointing not seeing that menacing face and that newly twisted mind tossing a coin to decide your fate. Speaking of the coin, though, (this was another element of Two Face and the new batman series I loved - how the coin use to be more of a calling card, the back history on it shown in the movie just made it all that much better when he flipped the coin as Two Face) when Harvey first showed the coin flip there were little gasps in the theatre as brains clicked. I guess I just like how none of the characters felt forced on us, it had the perfect blend of telling the audience only what they needed to know, leaving character mystery for The Joker but portraying Harvey as the White Knight.
  16. Sweet! Homemade paintball sentry gun! @Eagle: All I get is a YouTube search page looking at Charlie the unicorn
  17. Ah, Donnie Darko is a great movie. Definitely a favourite. I'm kinda disappointed that someone's trying to make a sequel to the movie Really not the type of movie to have sequel. Woo! Finally I can talk more about Dark Knight! ...so don't read this if you haven't seen it I never drew those conclusions Sinister - but, then, I haven't seen the '89 version for a long time. Now mentioned, I can see some similar parallels, almost a nod to the original though not made out to be super obvious. As for the "closed end" of the movie - I liked it. On one hand, were the series to end, it would end on a high note that's closed well with a superb movie. If they choose to continue it, there was enough at the end of the movie that allowed for it to be continued. Hell, just throwing in a new villain would work for a Batman movie, though at least there was the hint of a continuing story behind the scenes with the movie's conclusion and Gordan's monologue. I never liked how Batman Begin's ended, with the Joker card. Yeah, it was kinda cool with the inside knowledge about the next villain - but TV show cool, the sorta thing you expect at the end of a series. For a movie, even if there's a known sequel, I hate the sorta "to be continued" label at the end. And that's what it was. To me, it was lame. Not as lame as the massive, and literal, "To Be Continued" line at the end of the 2nd Matrix, but still lame. Which brings me to the point a movie should always be stand alone, or at least conclude well enough. Dark Knight had this conclusion. I think the actor behind Harvey Dent needs some decent praise along the lines of Heath - he was damn good to. I, personally don't recognise him too well so it was a lot easier for me to believe in the "white knight". NOTE! If you haven't seen the movie DO NOT look up this guy on IMDB - it's a spoiler (albeit 5 minutes into meeting the guy you could probably guess the twist). The make up and CG used for him is superb as well. And once again for Gary Oldman, who is an awesome Gordan. Perfectly acted in my opinion. So, who's the next villain for batman? I'm thinking the riddler.
  18. Happy birthday GMC, we miss you mate.
  19. Overkill?
  20. Yup, that worked E The Sad Truth
  21. Really? I played the demo and really liked it - I've been meaning to get the game for a long time now. The biggest complaint I've heard about the game was its length - or lack there of.
  22. The CD Key is often on the back of a manual for the game, or possibly the CD case - reading some threads online it sounds like the manual might be on the inside of the CD, where the CD cover goes and this where the CD Key should be for Commando. If not, maybe try LucasForums or whatever they're called - possibly look for a place that still sells the bundle and ask them?
  23. Thanks Eagle. I had a relativelly quiet night out to see Dark Knight, so that was nice. Mmm, now that sounds tastey!
  24. One sided battles get boring, fast. Which is often why I stop playing rebellion for long stretches of time, because after a while I'll have about 5-6 fleets with hundreds of ships each. I always wanted one of those fleets to meet something of similar firepower, but rarelly if ever got close. I do recall on numerous occations that my large fleets would engage an enemy fleet and destroy them with fighters before any capitals got in range. Unfortunatelly I don't remember much more than that They're fun, the first few times you crush the enemy ... but get boring fast
  25. I'm pretty sure I read the little droid helper thing saying that they're hyperspace lanes for faster travel. Nothing was mentioned in the tutorial? I'm almost positive it's mentioned somewhere ... maybe I saw it in a trailer video? Anyway, that's what they are - specific hyperspace lanes, sorta like the trade spines etc. in Star Wars. Against the AI, they're not that necessary - but are helpful nevertheless. The idea is that controlling the worlds on those lanes would allow you to respond to threats quickly. For the Rebels it allows you to quickly strike at an enemy worlds and fall back before re-enforcements arrive. The Empire gets to use them mainly to respond to threats and defend their worlds easier (Then again, the Rebels get this same option). Against human opponents it apparently works a lot better, where someone can use the lanes to defend most of the core worlds. I know in the game I'm currently playing those routes are really useful as I race from one side of the galaxy to the other with two decent fleets trying to fight off Rebel raids. Without them it would take me a lot longer to get a fleet to respond to a threat, and undoubtedly I'd lose a lot of planets quickly. From experience playing the Rebellion, where you don't really start off with control of an major lanes most of the time, it can be a real burden to try and protect your planets without a speedy way to move your large fleets into a defencive position. One thing I find annoying with the hyperspace in EaW is while they've set it up better than Rebellion (the idea that you can't just jump a fleet to the other side of galaxy and some planets are only accessible by certain routes), they only show the hyperspace lanes. I'd like it that when you drag a unit it would show the connecting lanes so I'd know which worlds I need to take over and which I don't need to defend because they're at there's only one way to the planet. As is, it's a guessing game and ruins some of the strategy involved.
