  15. G'day and welcome! Browse around, join in the banter and enjoy yourself! Things have been a little quiet of recent, as a lot of the "main" members are busy (damn you work! Where has my free time gone?), but don't let that stop you! Post something, and you might have to wait a little while (day or so) for a reply rather than a snappy 2 minute wait. To change your avatar and sig, go to the top of a page on the forum where there are 4 rollover drop down menus (Home, Forums, Rebellion, RebEd) and hover over Forums. Down the list that pops up there'll be an item called profile. Click profile, which takes you to a page where you can edit a whole lot of stuff relating to .. well your profile. Down the left had side there are some links for your Avatar (of which, if you have a custom image you'll have to host it somewhere offsite - I personally use Imageshack, but there are a lot of other alternatives equally good and equally free) and sig. Hope that helps!
  16. I'll raise your joke or some real world Call centre phone calls - not mine Customer: 'I've been calling 700-1000 for two days and can't get through; can you help?' Operator: 'Where did you get that number, sir?' Customer: 'It's on the door of your business.' Operator: 'Sir, those are the hours that we are open.' Samsung Electronics Caller:'Can you give me the telephone number for Jack?' Operator: 'I'm sorry, sir, I don't understand who you are talking about.' Caller: 'On page 1, section 5, of the user guide it clearly states that I need to unplug the fax machine from the AC wall socket and telephone Jack before cleaning. Now, can you give me the number for Jack?' Operator: 'I think it means the telephone plug on the wall.' RAC Motoring Services Caller: 'Does your European Breakdown Policy cover me when I am traveling in Australia ?' Operator: 'Does the product name give you a clue?' Caller (enquiring about legal requirements while traveling in Europe ) 'If I register my car in France , and then take it to England , do I have to change the steering wheel to the other side of the car?' Directory Enquiries Caller: 'I'd like the number of the Argo Fish Bar, please' Operator: 'I'm sorry, there's no listing. Are you sure that the spelling is correct?' Caller: 'Well, it used to be called the Bargo Fish Bar but the 'B' fell off.' Then there was the caller who asked for a knitwear company in Woven. Operator: 'Woven? Are you sure?' Caller: 'Yes. That's what it says on the label -- Woven in Scotland . ' On another occasion, a man making heavy breathing sounds from a phone box told a worried operator: 'I haven't got a pen, so I'm steaming up the window to write the number on.' Tech Support: 'I need you to right-click on the Open Desktop.' Customer: 'OK.' Tech Support: 'Did you get a pop-up menu?' Customer: 'No.' Tech Support: 'OK. Right-Click again. Do you see a pop-up menu?' Customer: 'No.' Tech Support: 'OK, sir. Can you tell me what you have done up until this point?' Customer: 'Sure. You told me to write 'click' and I wrote 'click'.'

  19. I remember watching Day of the Triffids. Didn't really excite me too much, but I imagine it was quiet great when it was made. As for Planet of the Apes, I havn't had the luxury of the original, just the miss-fortune of the remake POS. Anywho I just watched AVP2 today. What to say? I wasn't going in expecting much thanks to the first one and Rob's early comments about it. So, what is it? A good action/gore flick. 'Bout it really. It doesn't have any horror what so ever and focuses on the modern concept of how this guy is going to die. It's sort of like writters have not only gone away from the only a few people die to lets kill as many as possible in a red shirt guy kind of way. And thanks to that, as well as some cliche directing you know who's going to die and how for the most part (One exception comes to mind, and it was the only person I didn't think would die and did). There are continuity errors for those who like the other movies in the franchise (You know a movie is bad these days when those words are uttered about it: franchise), though it does a better job of the Preditor (for the most part) than AVP 1. Umong the worst is how Aliens breed (predalien really) and the accelerated evolution of anything Alien, like setting up a hive in minutes, or going from a chest bursting alien to a 7 foot tall one in .. well, minutes again. The overeall plot wasn't too bad, and I think it could have worked by throwing in Wayland-Yutani more rather than the glimpse we got in both movies. The obvious ending should have had an additional news announcment as part of the cover up .. actually, to make a cover up. Also, I'd have liked there to have been a stronger link to why ONE preditor was sent to cleanup what happened - relative? Blood brothers blah blah blah, not just an intergalactic email and "I'll be right there, let me just grab my things". There are quiet a few, small things, that would have made this movie better if not a success, but alas we're left with what it is. That all said and done, one of my favourite scenes was on the Pred hom world - even if short. It was a great visualisation and ended with a lovelly vista of their culture - a sort of juxstaposition between the future and something that reminded me of ancient Greese/Rome. It was a shame, and blessing, it was so short. If you wonder why a blessing - put simply, it stopped them from screwing it up. So, if you're bored and want a mind numbing movie, without a great deal of thought needed or wanted, enjoy the site of people going splat and evil aliens roaming through town then this is it. The end of the movie has you feeling rather "meh". You saw it, didn't like any characters, didn't get to know them, didn't care who lived or died and quiet frankly seeing the movie has had zero impact on you. Hell, I found myself skipping through the scenes that were set up to try and make you "feel" for the 2d characters who's depth is measured in how much time they were given when they died to get to the preditor's hunting in dark places - that being one of the well done elements of the movie. I'm still hoping for a movie that combines the enthrowling mix of martial military prowness and mind freezing horror of Aliens (one of my all time favourite movies), but for now I've had to settle with Video Games that have accomplished this task (AVP2, Doom 3, Halflife 1&2 etc.)
  20. Aww, crap EA cans Tiberium
  21. I think not! I require more insight to this bogan wedding fight! RIP Paul Newman I knew little of you, but what I knew was all good and what I'm learning was even better.
  22. Well, I took the plunge and opened the thing. So far it's been a mixture of good and bad. Good: it's pretty and somethings are nice and the features are nice. That said, using this keyboard is a royal pain, Internet browsing is very slow (and this is at home), there are no scroll bars unless you're scrolling, features don't work easily, and the touch screen doesn't work how you'd expect most of the time. There's more (good and bad) but I'll leave that for a real keyboard. EDIT: Right, real keyboard! Ok, so I haven't used it as an mp3 player (yet). Control over features is lacking, you seem to have control for a bit, but a lot of options aren't available. Somethings are a breeze (which is great and gives the intended Apple feel), others are a pain in the butt - for example, changing the location for the weather app requires clicking a tiny "i" on the bottom right that you can't zoom in to make it easier to press. It was next to impossible to press and took over 5 minutes of mashing to get. The web browser is quite nice, I never liked Safari for a desktop - but the iPod/iPhone version is nice for its purpose. Multiwindow browsing in the program is nice and streamlined, elbiet it suffers from something a lot of the apps have, small buttons/icons to press. The touch screen is hypersensitive, and is a pain really. You accidently scroll around, touching the wrong letter when typing, moving to another letter and brushing the screen dropping in the wrong letter etc. Moving the cursor while typing is a nice idea, that doesn't work too well - you hold down on the screen and it magnifies where you're holding and you move along to where you want to type. But, in practice the thick and pretty border on the magnifying glass gets in the way, it's hard to be exact when you want to delete a letter or add in at a point and worst yet was using this website where I had to hold the cursor zoom several lines above the text to navigate on the line I wanted. Hopefully this issue is resolved with later firmware, else anything beyond browsing on the thing is rather pointless as writing a note is tedious as is. The multi-touch is really nice, not the best I've used, but works well for most things - zooming in is great (and a must for a lot of apps) but zooming out is rather bad. Websites and apps with input fields suffer from this as the device doesn't know if you're intentionlly selecting a field or just trying to navigate. Nevertheless, it's smooth and nice and one of the better things I've run into so far. The portrait/landscape ability is a nice touch, smooth animation and a treat for most things. The only complain I have is while using the net it decided to go into landscape and stay there even though I was holding the device in portrait all along. Powering off is annoying (as you need to unlock the shutdown even after holding down the power button), though the screen locking isn't too bad (we'll see when I actually use it out and about. And finally, the thing is bloody dirt already Overall, I'm getting a feeling of form over function as expected - and honestly, the number of quirks and bugs I've run into already surprised even me. Oh, and so far iTunes is on an old, sacrificed machine
