  1. When it comes to deciding how credible someone's post are I tend to base it on three factors. First, in agreement with Tofu, the avatar. Not whether or not there is one, but what it is of and how professional it looks. To be honest this is unfair as some people simply use the default forum avatars, or some might steal their avatars from other, more professional sources (like me). It's also unfair as some members don't (or didn't) use avatars, yet their contributions to the community were great. An example of the latter is dinochick. For the longest time she had no avatar, yet I had (indeed, still have of course) great respect for what she had/has to say. Second, post "style" and clarity (spelling and grammar included). I certainly don't claim to have perfect spelling, nor grammar, but I do like to think that my abilities in those fields are above average. As such, professionalism in respect to these two features plays a big role in where I place cerdibility. In most cases this is an accurate filter, but it is unfair to people who's native language is not English. Also included in "style" would be the use of paragraphs. Some people simply cram their whole post into one large, difficult to read paragraph. I usually skip reading those posts . Also, one of my biggest irks is commas and their over use or under use. I think this is almost turning into a rant. The final thing I look for is vocabulary. You can usually tell by the manner in which some one speaks how knowledgeable they are. This is admittadly not always true, as some fools use large words to hide their foolishness, just as some intelligent people prefer to keep things simple. Now these three criteria aren't really fair as not every member of the forum has all of them. However, I really only apply them to new people, not those who have been her a while. Currently there aren't any consistent posters for whom I do not apply a certain level of credibility (though I will admit it does vary ).
  2. Our respect for Mask, Mad, Jahled, Trej and others is not due to a high post count, but because they frequently demonstrate that they are mature members of the community who are knowledgable and friendly.
  3. Phishing is scams like those online "donation" sties that poped up after Katrina where you give money to what you think is a good cause but in reality some person is pocketing it.
  4. If you don't mind loosing the bonus for having the Emperor on Coruscan, there is an even more fool-proof plan to keep the Rebels from catpuring Coruscant, and pretty much from you loosing the game. I suggest you build a Death Star, however instead of leaving it in orbit as a defencive station, use its power and destroy the planet. The Rebels can't capture a floating pile of rock now can they? I don't know if this might lead to the game being un-winnable for the Rebels as I haven't tested the stratagem in multiplayer.
  5. It's excellent to see one of our new members posting instead of hiding in the shadows. Never hesitate to post your opinion, we're happy to hear it, and definitely be active! Oh, and don't let some of the other members scare you. Tofu, Rob, and Tex aren't that bad once you get to know them .
  6. I've curbed my posting somewhat. I really only say something when I've got something to say... well, something constructive. When I look back on my posts from yore I find that many of them were made simply to say something. Not the sort of reputation I want. Usually if I don't have more than three lines to say I'll hold back. I'm sure I'll hit 2k some time in the first two months of the New Year.
  7. Are you sure this is affiliated with Google? Right now I'm taking several courses regarding to Cyber Crime and digital evidence. To me this sounds like a phishing sight (yes, it really is spelled like that). I think you have a high-risk lifestyle to fall for something like this my friend.
  8. But how many people really "celebrate" Boxing Day? The whole point has been lost. Now it's just another day that the average Joe has to work (albeit at time and a half instead of just regular pay) while consumers flock into the stores to save fifty cents on their next bra or shirt. It's just the next money grab after Christmas to get your hard-earned money. I'll celebrate New Years, but not Boxing Day.
  9. RebEd is available from the main page here. If you're looking to download Rebellion, the actual game, you're in the wrong place. Pirating software is not supported here. As for a no-cd crack, you'll also have to look elsewhere.
  10. Surprisingly, the majority of the pages in this thread are related to the topic. Many of them are discussing how a new ranking system would be organised, or debating Dr. Saxton's rank system etc. All-in-all, I think this thread is generally productive (well, it was ).
  11. Quickley Mad, remove the "e" from the end of protocol before Scathane can strike again!
  12. Well, as I'm getting a little old for Christmas, my gifts were limited. I got some money and gift certificates (sorry, but I just don't appreciate gift certificates. That's why I sold them to my mom, ) from most of my relatives. I also got a new cell phone, which I needed badly, and a new set of speakers for my computer. I think there was some clothing in there somewhere too, but those might have been stocking stuffers (and thus not considered gifts).
  13. He had the advantage where fighters are concerned though. Defenders might cost the most, but they're not really that effective against other fighters. Had those SSDs been loaded with TIE Interceptors with some TIE Bombers the case would have been different. The Rebels really had an advantage because of the B-Wings.
  14. You Are Crazy is 11 letters too. Next we'll be reading "The terrorists got their knives from a 7/11, on the November 11 of the year before, at exact moment the First World War ended (11th month, 11th day, 11 hour). Osama Bin Laden has 13 letters. That's an unluckey number! Seriousley, all of these things are coincidence. I mean, in order to get some of those you have to break a number apart. 11 cannot be slit into two onces to support this. Now, if you somehow managed to do some calculations with 11 (try finding the square root of eleven , mulitplied by Pi, and then divide it by the Cos of the angle from the top of one of the towers to the bottom of the other maybe?) I would be impressed. The quote from the Quran could also refer to events that occured while the Romand Empire was still at its height. I'm sure someone pissed the Romans off back then. Or maybe Napoleonic France or 1930's Germany... seems all the greats use the eagle. Now the part about Word is cool, but what happens when you change the font to anything else? Nothing, you get exactly what you typed in, a bunch of squares or other illegible text.
  15. Ok, this is not directed at yuckypants, but because this topic is the most recent of the bunch I felt the need to post here. At least once every two weeks we get people in here asking for no CD cracks, CD clones or full installs for Rebellion, each with a similar story: "My CD is scratched beyond use", "I lost my CD", "My CD broke on vacation" (this is the strangest of all in my opinion). Now, I do not, in any way, speak for the administrators of this fine web-site, but I want to get this off my chest: CD cracks are of questionable legality because they allow people who do not own the game to play it without buying it. It is impossible to verify that you, the poster, do in fact own the game. Without putting itself at risk of legal action, this website cannot provide, in any form, a file or piece of information that might allow the infringment of LucasArts' copyright. Now, if someone wants to answer these requests using private messages, I guess that's ok, but soloutions or links really shouldn't (can't?) be posted here on the forums. I'm just really tired of seeing these threads because too many people will try to get something for nothing (not pointing fingers here, just stating it). It might be good if one of the Moderators made a stickey covering this topic so that we can see an end to the constant crack requests.
  16. I think Tex was more concerned with the EM (Electro-magnetic) disturbance that is the result of every nuclear dettonation. An EM pulse will short out everything with an electrical circuit in it. If such a pulse were created in the upper atmosphere, or indeed in close proximity to Earth, every electrical device on the planet would most likely be shorted out to the point of being irreperably damaged. So, if all our machines are broken, and the machines that make the machines are broken, we're pretty much stuck in the stone age... or at least the 19th century (which isn't all that bad in my opinion. The age of sail once again! ).
  17. How exactly did this go from a user looking for a new (and for some reason, illegal) copy of Rebellion to talking about asteroids and nukes? With regards to the original topic, why is it that we have so many topics looking for CD cracks or CD images or burned copies? We do not support those sorts of things here. If you want the game, buy it from Ebay or Lucasarts.
  18. Alot of people (myself included, when I was but a junior officer) get lots of posts by simply making short comments in any topic they can. A low rank and post count certainly doesn't make you a less valued member of the community!
  19. Remember folks, just because it's a new game doesn't mean it will push the limits of graphic technology. I think that as long as you have a Radeon 9800 or better you can run this game with high graphics. Also remember that some games have problems with next-gen graphics cards. For example, I've been told that I can't play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on my computer because the X850 is for some reason incompatable with the game (as is any other card in the xXXX series, or anything in the 6000+ for nVidia). For all we know us next-geners might have to wait for a patch or driver update from our GPU manufacturers.
  20. Well, I'll spend time with each side of my family (my mother's and my father's) and then I'll head off to Barrie (about 4 hours away) to spend a late Christmas (and early New Years) with my girlfriend. I'm sure I too will find some time to play games in there somewhere.
  21. Ah, so we can astart blaming all of our problems on you then, eh my friend?
  22. Though not a PM, I did recieve a notification that I had been added to the Rebellion Reloded group on the forums. It seemed odd since I'm not contributing in any way to the project so I checked here and, as I suspected, I was not in fact a member of that group.
  23. Here is the link to the map. Someone will have to post it every now and then as the pages grow.
  24. It was really blustery here yesterday. I think we have about 15cm of snow on the ground. It's nice that it looks like the Christmas season, but bad that drivers tend to become terrible once a snowflake hits the road.
  25. Well BS, it's too bad you'll be dissapearing. If you manage to find time stop by and lend us your brain form time to time. Hey, I resent that! I may have a love for Star Wars, but I'm not a total geek... then again, I did find a woman who likes Star Wars too...
