They're small companies based here in Ontario. MilitaryHeritage.com and CoghlinandUpton.com.

Not as yet. For some reason the movie, as well as the two other items I've ordered recently, have yet to be processed. I know that it's because of the companies I've ordered from, not the credit card. I'm going to call tomorrow to find out what the hold-up is.

Well, there is a small problem with that. it is now generally accepted that the moon was created when another astral body of substantial size collided with the earth realy on. Any fossils found on the moon could be transfer from earth. At the present time we do not have, and cannont fathom, the technology needed to break the boundry of our own solar system. This does not mean that it's not possible. Remember, two hundred years ago humanity couldn't have even imagined a combustion engine or a computer, and yet today almost every one in the developed world has one or the other. There will most likely be forms of technology we can create with the most creative flights of imagination right now. Also consider that the most prominent pieces of information used in modern physics are still called theories. The M Theory, the Theory of relativity (though modified form it's original state), the String Theory. Our current knowledge works well on its own (that is, each theory works when used on it's own), but when you try and combine each theory together everything breaks down. It should also be recognised that we may not have advnaced enough technology to communicate with, or to recieve communications from, alien life. Sure, as far as we know radio waves are the best form of communication, but what if some other race knows better? If you were in a forest and heard a thumping sound in the distance, would you know that it's a native drummer inviting you to dinner? We humans really do think highly of ourselves. We tend to think that "Well, if we can't do it it's not possible". This might be our biggest limiting feature.

You and me and art and stuff

Nice Krytos. If you do a version in 1600x1200 let me know, I'm looking for something to replace Lord Nelson on my wallpaper. just a question, are the edges sort of pixilated because it has been reduced in size? -
I think you will find that many of hte responses here will tie in with the Religion thread (depending on how "hard-core" (sorry, I couln't think of a better term)). I personally think it would be rather naive to think we are the only intellignet life in the universe. It would even be naive to think that we're the only intelligent life in our own galaxy. Some people use the excuse "well, if they were out there we would have seen them by now". To that I ask, when was the last time you stopped and had a conversation with an ant or a ground hog?

Thank's Trej, I'll give that a try. At the moment I don't know if my DVD player will play the movie or not, as I'm still waiting for it (along with several other thigns) to come in the mail. If it does work all is well with the world. If not, I can always watch it on my PC (with a 21" screen it really doesn't matter ). I'm really hoping this will work on a regular DVD player though, I want to see it on my Dad's big-screen TV with ihs home theater system.

Who's stronger, Yoda or Emperor Palpatine?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Darth_Rob's topic in General Discussion
It seems that the Emperor has now taken the lead. I have a feeling that we're nearing the end of this race. Fortunately the right person is winning -
Hmm, DVD Genie. I'll look into it. My sister is the know-it-all when it comes to DVD programs like that. As for the movie, I only wish there were a director's cut. It was originally four hours in length. Pitty they cut it down to a mere 128 minutes.

Normally a DVD's region code wouldn't be a problem, however there is a movie I would like to buy that is not availible in the "correct" region code. The movie Waterloo, directed by Sergei Bondarchuk, is probably one of the best Napoleonic movies in existence. Not only does it have some top notch actors in it, including Christopher Plummer as Wellington, but they used thousands of Russian soldiers as the troops. The problem is, the DVD is only available in region 2 and 4, that is the UK and Oceana (Australia) respectively. So, my question is thus. Can I, after buying the movie, change the region by burning it? If not all is not lost, I can always watch it on my PC (since most DVD Roms are generic, and most DVD programs for PC allow you to choose a region). So, any suggestions?

Warlords: Star Trek vs. Star Wars?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in Warlords (Homeworld 2)
Well, that would depend on the speed and maneuverability given to the Star Trek ships. From what I've seen Star Trek ships are far faster and maneuverable than those we see in the Star Wars galaxy. It wouldbe interesting, but I think this mod would cause more problems than it's worth. -
Well, to start there was simply all of the matter and energy in the universe compounded into a single mass. At this time two forces were exerting influence over this mass, gravity and another, currently unnamed force, which rather than pulling the mass together would strive to push it apart. Now, usually these forces were in balance, keeping the mass whole. However, at some point the unnamed force, let us call it anti-gravity, exerted more power over the mass than gravity. Now, on a scale as large as we're talking here, even a slight increase in one force over the other would have massive results. So, anti-gravity's gaining the "upper hand", as it were, caused all of the energy and matter, basically plasma, to be exploded outwards: hence, Big "Bang". This all happens over billions of years, of course, eventually forming the universe as we know it today. Evidence of this can still be seen. The movement of galaxies away from other galaxies has been recorded, lending credence to the Bing Bang Theory. Yes, people trying to prove that God, or evolution to be fair, are stupid. But then, not many people try to do that. Theologists, the good ones anyhow, do not try to disprove evolution or science, but try to support the existence of a higher power. If a theologan comes up to me ans says"Evolution is bollocks, here's why, and that's why God is better" I have a low opinion. However, if a theologan, such as my friend's father, comes up to me and begins to explain his beliefs, supporting them in a reasonable manner, I respect him eminently. I've had this happen, and that is why I'm open to the possibility of a higher power. At the moment, however, the empirical evidence seems to support science. It's good that you have strong beliefs Kaja, not many of today's youths can say that, but try and avoid saying people are stupid, idiots, or basically slamming anyone who doesn't agree with you, or even if they try to disprove your beliefs in a similarly inappropriate way. Look at everything in an as unemotional way as you can. Odd how reasoning is so very like the Force...

Well, this sounds like an on-line version of Freelancer... well massively on-line version anyway. I had considered this game when I read about it in PC Gamer, but other games seem to have overshadowed it. I might look into it when school is over.

Well, I don't want to start a debate here, but subjects like Philosophy and Theology are studied for one reason: man simply cannon accept the possibility that an occurace has no reason. No matter what it is, man will work feverishly to find out why some thing is, or has happened, and we think that there is an answer to everything. The simple fact is, some things just happen. There is no why, maybe not even a how, it simply is...
-
Well, I guess Athiest best describes me, but I'm willing to accept the possibility of a "higher power" so long as it can be proven... I guess that sort of defeats the purpose of "faith" doesn't it?

I reallly, really should know this...
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to PsychoInfiltrator's question in Questions from Newbies
The majority of Rebellion's files are small. You can easily back them up to a floppy disk. -
Well, remembering the fingerings (which combination of valves to press down) is easy, however the embouchure (formation of your lips) is the hard part. For the lower notes your lips will be quite loose, but the higher notes need alot of tension. You can't just blow through the intrument either, you play as though you were making an elephant sound.

I've played the trumpet for eight years, though I haven't had much time this year, and I think my abilities have failed me. I'm hoping to pick up a violin or viola some time in the near future and take lessons.

But I bet he'd get some funny looks at parties: "You know who I like being. Hitler." Now that's a good way to break the ice.

Wow, really? It looks nothing like him! Three Star Wars actors in one movie...

Ozzel did not play a role in The Last Cruisade, that was Veers.

Yeah, it's an old game, and this topic isn't really about the game itself. This month's PC Gamer is offering a free 21-day trial of City of Heroes. Now, I still play the game from time-to-time (though I am admittedly a WoW junkie), but my folks, who also play MMOs, have yet to try it. So, I have a request. if there is anyone else who has this month's DVD edition of PC gamer (I think there was another mag offering the same deal), and has no intention of using the free trial themselves, would you be so kind as to PM me the registration code located inside the mag (I have one copy, but I need two, alas) on page 68 for PC gamer? I know, an odd request, but I would be much obliged.

The Grand Admiral is Going to Europe!
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Outside Interests
Well, the shots "in the back country" were shot at Lake Como (sp?). Honestly Italy and the like don't interest me. I would really only go to the mainland to see WW II historic sites and any remnants of the Napoleonic era. This is really a scouting mission. Once I've completed my education I want to move to Europe, despite the higher cost of living. That's also why I'd like to visit the smaller, less-known towns and cities.
