I wonder if I could get a custom case made to look like Thrawn? Two red LEDs for the eyes, his face opens to reveal the ROM drives. Hmm...

What is your favorite lightsaber duel?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Sinister's topic in General Discussion
I had to go with Luke vs. Vader in RotJ. It's the most moving if you really consider the circumstances. A son fighting his father, cutting off his arm as was done to him, yet learning something of himself in doing so, seeing the path he nearly took, but turning away from the lure of power not only for his sake, but for his fathers. Everything comes full circle. That, and in the end Vader is redeemed when he sacrifices himself for his child... perhaps this is a reflection of Padme. You mgiht be able to say she sacrificed herself for her children also. -
I was most surprised by what Ingvar Kamprad was driving - a 1993 Volvo 240 GL. Now there is a man who doesn't let his money go to his head!

Grand Admiral Thrawn not following dress code?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Sinister's topic in General Discussion
Militarily Thrawn outranks Tarkin. However, if you're looking at it from a political point of view, Tarkin has mor authority. I can't think of any real-world examples. Tarkin and his fellow Grand Moffs join the military and government in one position. He would have authority over every person of a military rank lower than Grand Admiral. Search for the website by Dr. Saxton, it gives an accurate list of ranks (give or take). -
Grand Admiral Thrawn not following dress code?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Sinister's topic in General Discussion
Tarkin is in a unique position of having both a military and political rank, giving him command over a sector as well as military forces. With regards to Grand Admirals, he would be subordinate to them. Grand Admiral is the highest rank attainable in the Navy. I have yet to find any official sources suggesting a Grand Marshal or equivalent in the Army, so it might be safe to assume that Grand Admiral is the highest rank period. With regards to Vader, he didn't have an official poistion. He was the Emperor's apprentice, nothing more. So, Tarkin would have had sway over his movements assuming he was not acting at the behest of the Emperor. As for the hats, I think once you hit a certain rank you get a few more options when it comes to dress code -
Hmm, I still would only have had you pegged at around 30... maybe my age-o-meter is off. Still, 34 is certainly not old. You're only fourteen years my senior . Come to think of it, I tend to hang around with some people only slightly younger than yourself. Old, bah!

Not sure how this came about. I know I only clicked the button once. Oh well, it seems I get a free post added to my count...

Oh come now Jahled, you can't be any more than, what, 28-30? Even if you're slightly over that, you're certainly not old. You're not old until 50

Your thoughts on Empire at War and Star Wars Rebellion!!!
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Flashman22's topic in Empire at War
While I like the game, I think I can sum it up in three words: Rebellion for Idiots. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, but it's basically Rebellion sans many of the good features, with a new shiney look. That's really what is pulling gamers in is the "Oooh, new and shiney" factor. Rebellion has dated graphics, but it is more involving gameplay wise. Again, I do enjoy the game, and I will continue to play it, that's just the way I see the game. Now, if they expand on the game a little with some patches, all will be well in the universe. There is one major thing that bothers me. Apparently having a fleet of Star Destroyers in orbit can't prevent a planet from being taken. The Rebellion is able to just drop some tanks onto a planet, despite the fleet in orbit, and take over. -
If you're planning on modding BFME II, I suggest you wait. There was a fantastic mod for C&C Generals called Blitzkreig II which was a TC turning the game in to a WW II RTS. They planned on moving the game over to Battle for Middle Earth, however EA made the game without many of the needed scripts (that, and the build point construction system just wasn't viable for a WW II mod). Things like a turret script for the tanks and whatnot were not included in the game. EA promissed to add them in in a patch, but as EA always does, they sort of pushed the topic aside and never came back to it. I suggest you try and mod EaW and make it so the ground battles don't suck...

But Tofu, in five years the average age of posters here will also have increased by five years. Hmm, driving at 15? It's 16 here, but I doubt a year really makes that much of a difference. Best of luck, and Happy Birthday (unless you already have a thread for that and I've just missed it).

Battle of the Red Shirts

This is really a tough call. If we're going to ignore the timeline and deaths and whatnot, then we have to put everyone on the same level time wise. So we either assume every one has had all the time up to Anakin turning to the Dark Side, or we put every one back to Maul in Episode I. So, since we know you want Anakin being dark, we know what our options are. Maul will have had, what, ten years to get better? So imagine Maul with ten years more of practice with his lightsabers. I think he'd be more than capable of handling any Jedi thrown at him when it comes to sabre fighting. Also remember, Sidious chose Maul first, Dooku second. If it came down to Dooku using lightning Maul could take a lesson from Obi-Wan and just use his sabre to absorb it. Now why wasn't the Emperor on there? Oh right, he'd kill every one. -
New Computer, Looking for a Little Help
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Outside Interests
I did try their online database, but as with many such resources, it was all but useless. Th ereformat seems to have worked well thus far, thought some instances have lead to a little lagging (primarily when I use excessive amounts of Anti Aliasing). I'll give it a true test run tonight. -
New Computer, Looking for a Little Help

Dell's soloution was to reformat the computer. I'm in the middle of re-installing some of the important games right now to see if it worked. It better, or else I've wasted a perfectly good homework afternoon... -
I think the mens team neaded that beating. They've not been playing up-to-par the last little while, but have been getting cockey because of the span in goals between them and their opponents. This should be a good kick in the pants.

New Computer, Looking for a Little Help
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Outside Interests
I'll have to investigate as to how I would dissable this "SpeedStep" program. I saw the settings in my BIOS, however Dell is kind enough to lock certain settings to prevent them from being changed :S. -
New Computer, Looking for a Little Help
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Outside Interests
I have already checked my BIOS settings, thinking that Dell might have under-clocked my computer by lowering the RAM speed. It all checked out. it seems that only a few of my 3D games act oddly. Primarily World of Warcraft and F.E.A.R chug a little (well, the latter does it alot). I can play Battlefield 2 with no problems, as well as Age of Empires III and Warlords. I was thinking it might have to do with the refresh rate on the display. I know that if you have a lower refresh rate with a hight resolution it can lead to a performance drop. I tend to run things at 1290x980 (or something to that effect) as that is the default desktop rez. The only refresh rate you can get with an LCD is 60Hz, so I might try dropping the rez down a little. I know that anything more than 1024x768 on a 17" screen is usually overkill. The processor is disturbing, but it doesn't seem to affect performance. When I attempted to install WoW on here it told me I didn't meet the system requirements for my processor (much to my horror), yet everything works fine. I might have to contact Dell about that one. I'm confident my issues aren't software related as I removed pretty much everything Dell had on here when they shipped it to me. It's one thing to get spyware when I'm on the internet, it's another to have it included with a system out of the box EDIT:I just read Evader's post. I know that the video card has 256 Mb of onboard RAM in addition to the 1 gig of system ram, so it shouldn't need to dip into virtual memory to pick up the slack as there shoudln't be any slack. What would happen were I to reduce the allotted space for VM? EDIT II: It seems that Dell set a custom size for the VM of just over 1.5 Gb with a max size of almost 3.5 Gb. My question now is, to save straining hardware memory, would the system revert to the VM before physical memory was maxed? EDIT III: Ok, I went in and it seems that Dell had set a custom amount of VM for my computer. It was set to have 15. -3.5 GIG of VM. Now, as I've been learning in class, that's excessive, so I switched it to allow Windows to manage my VM. After doing that F.E.A.R seems to be running much more smoothly. Perhaps this was my problem. -
I just got ny laptop from Dell (yeah, I know, that's one of my problems right there, but let's ignore that for a minute :lol:0 and I'm having two problems. Whenever I play any games that are 3D I get a sort of "chugging" experience. To be more specific, the computer will read from the HD every twenty seconds or so causing the game to jerk. My second problem is that occasionally the computer will read my processor as a 750 MHz instead of the 2.0 GHz that it is. For system specs: Dell XPS M170 1Gb DDR2 533 RAM nVidia GeForce Go 7800 80Gb HD Intel (*shudder*) 2.0 Centrino processor As far as I know this systems should perform about as well as a desktop of similar specs. Any suggestions?

A few friends and I were watching this during a break today at school. I personally thought it was great. just a warning that there is some foul language in it... but Dr. Tran sets him strait.

Yeah, but we have yet to play a serious team. Once we hit the Americans and Russians and Sweeds (Swedes?) we'll start having a tough time.

Ah, well if you're going into Law you'll have to go to university, not college. You should go in Ontatio, I can show you around... ok, I can't as I live in a rather small part of it, but hey, I could visit!

The Canadian men's team beat Italy 7-2 today. I thought it was nice of us to let them get two goals.
