  1. You have to go to the forums to get that. I saw the picture of the ingame ISD, but with that I wasn't too impressed. It almost looked like they were just using the XvT model. I'll wait until they release the mod to pass judgement though.
  2. Hmmm, nope, even the graphics on the C-64 blew my old PCs away. Imagine a picture printed off on a DOT Matrix printer, then reduced in DPI (if that term can even be applied to such an antique), and displayed only in black and yellow. There was no shading or colour variance, just solid blocks. I sweaer the resolution was restricted to 10x12. If I'm not mistaken, it was a Dutch computer. It was sort of a hand-me-down from my aunt, who married a Dutchman.
  3. Just thought I'd bringthis back to the top to bring you a little news. a new mod, Star WArs: The Tides of War, is approaching it's Alpha release. I have hope that this will be better than the other Star Wars mods for Freelancer, which usually consist of one or two systems, and a handful of ships. you can take a look at it here.
  4. Well, somewhere I have a computer that predates DOS. It has a mono-colour screen that displays everything in yellow, with a 13 inch monitor. Everything had to be run off of the old flopy disks (can't remember what the measurements were for those), because there wasn't enough HD space for even the most simple of tasks. Hell, I don't think it even supported word processing! All it had was a football and golf game. THe football was entirely numbers, as was the golf game until you got the "ball" in, which was displayed as a block sliding across a bar until it fell through a gap. Very impressive indeed!
  5. I can see why one wold want to avoid visits from such a... hormonaly excited creature.
  6. Just go back to page 4 or 5 of this thread. All will be explained. It is very old, back when Scath was but a Colonel (or some other lower rank).
  7. Perhaps the most disturbing part of the whole... erm, war, was the part where SOCOL walked into Scath's room dressed as a Twi'lek nurse. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get the image of a Legionare with lekku (sp?) out of my head.
  8. Just a PC for me. I can't really get into the consol games.
  9. While I can't blame the average Joe (no, not the guy on TV) for not wanting to shell out the cash for these programs, the company owned by the $50,000,000,000 Man should be able to spend $400 on an audio program. This just puts their complaining about "pirates" taking off with their programs in a new light. I personally use an "illegal" copy of XP Professional, but only because I refuse to pay $400 for an operating system I need to run my computer. Well, that and my friend did pay for the OS, so I'm not really breaking the law. Shame on Microsoft, or the person they hired to do the sounds!
  10. I thought it was entertaining. It was nice that you could use an airplane (or jet), but that you are attacked by fighter jets if you go into an area of the city you aren't suppose to be able to access? The language was also a bit much, I agree. The gun shots sound as though they are cut off, like they did a poor job at the recording studio. I wouldn't rate it as the "Game of the Year", but it was good for taking away the boredom of a saturday afternoon.
  11. I could never really figure out what was so great about the first Halo. I think most people only played it for the multiplayer. As for Halo 2, it looks pretty much like the first one, but from what I hear there are a few added features. The graphics aren't revolutionary. Games like this are almost exclusively for the gamers who can't wrap their minds around the more complex games out there today (present company excepted).
  12. In short: they look like goats. the image of Borsk in Rebellion isn't the best representation, that's for sure.
  13. Rev dissapeared shortly after the creation of the Card Guild. Sad, really, since it was then that people were really getting into it, and his help in developing futher version of RebEd would have gone a long way. Even though his exit was less than appreciated, we must still recognise htat, without his help, we may never have united in this way. The loss of EW was a big hit. I, too, would be interested in knowing why he chose to resign. The loss of major community members is always a big blow to everyone's moral. It would be like Scath, AA or Igor (or Evaders, Mask, etc.) leaving.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, it means "Because I'm holding a Thermal Detonator". Could be wong thoug since everything Leia said as that bounty hunter sounded pretty much the same.
  15. What about when you take the time to make a "You know you've been watching too much Star WArs when..." list. I always find myself humming the Imperial March, but I think any one who is a Star Wars fan will agree it is one of the best Villain theme songs.
  16. Looks interesting, if not a little X-Wing vs TIE Fighter
  17. Exactly, that's why I posted it. Also, the blue squares are on the top of that picture, while GMC's are on the bottom. Just pointing things out.
  18. I agree with that, base building doesn't make sence on a galactic scale, but there is the possibility of a Forward Operating Base. Sure, the troops in Iraq aren't building a war factory to pump out more tanks, and there are no training camps, but that's the real world. They are looking more at gameplay for this type of game. Really, had Force Commander been slightly different, it would have been the best way to make an RTS for Star Wars. Your troops were delivered to you, not trained or built. I say we wait and see before we get too critical of the game (not that any one has been thus far, just my opinion).
  19. Well, their projectiles are slow enough that you can avoid them, and their splash damage is almost non-existent. That, and they only have two rounds in their weapon before a reload that takes forever. I agree that they are cheap compared to the other classes, but that the level of advantage isn't so great as to effect gameplay. The best tactic for taking out a Jetpack Trooper is to A) rockets (after you get a lock, that is), B) use stationary turrets, or C) tanks work very well. On top of that, the Superbattledroid is very effective with it's arm-mounted rockets and high rate of fire. And Droidekas can take them out, so longs as you are careful not to overheat their cannons. It's not really a matter of the other classes being gimped in comparision, its more of a matter of kowing a good strategy for them. Most people just switch on the Driodeka shields and let them run. If you're not being shot at, turn them off. Focus on the biggest threat and never go in alone. All of the best games I've played have been on server where people co-ordinate their attacks. The 50 player servers aren't always the best. Try a 25 player server. There are fewer people, so they tend to keep track of one another. Vehicles are your friend, but they can also restrict you. Infantry have greater maneuverability, so you have to watch your back. Play with the class you are most confortable with, and that is tailored to your game style. Just remember, there is always another class designed to counter you, so watch out. I'll admit, I enjoy the Jetpack Trooper, but most of my kills don't come from his cannon, I tend to kill more people with the pistole, which all clonetroopers have, than anything else. It has a fast rate of fire, is highly accurate, and has unlimited ammo. Just think of the Jetpack Troopers as a weaker version of a TIE Fighter or Droid Fighter. Sur they can fly (for a while) and they pack a punch, but in the end, they have the health of any other infantry unit. It wouldn't be fun if everything were easy .
  20. I agree, there was much in the EU that somewhat ruined the SW Universe, but there was also much that added to it. Without the EU we wouldn't have characters such as Daala, Thrawn, Fel, Mara Jade, or Pallaeon. The Rogue Squadron series expanded on that group and made them the legends that they are. No one would care about them if we relied solely on the movies. There are many other things, but my fingers don't have the stamina they used to in this cold weather . Grandted, the NJO series relating to the Vong was dragged out a lot (15 books? Most of them were half the size of the regular EU novels!), and the Black Fleet Crisis was a waste of time, but hey, every story has boring parts (like every second Star Trek Movie). I would like to suggest we disregard the EU, but it has simply added too much to the story to ignor. The trouble comes in the contradictions between George's story and the EU's. Since both are licensed, who do we trust?
  21. They're doing some sort of biological research that needs heavy calculations. The client you can download will connect you to them and they will use your computers processing power to augment their own, creating a sort of "internet supercomputer". An intersting concept, but I'm a little concerned about the security aspect.
  22. Interesting. Well, as long as the game doesn't turn out like Galactic Battlegrounds (a carbon copy of the Age of Empires series from Microsoft), or a dismal game like Force Commander, I'll be happy. With games like Battle for Middle Earth comming out in the near future, I;m more inclined to believe it will be along those lines. It's not going to be like Rebellion in any way, though, since Rebellion is not an RTS, just an SG. Vey interesting find Igor!
  23. Well, he did appologise for it being a little out-of-date. He'll probably get to you in a SWR II edition . Nicely done AA. I feel I know those around me even more now.
  24. Well put SOCOL. I am, however, doubting the possibility of the Empire continuing to clone troops for elite units such as the 501st and the Royal Guards. We have all of he Crimson Empire books that would contradict that, and there is some refernece in the EU books that the Royal Guards were the best-of-the-best from the Stormtrooper ranks and that thye were rotated between regualr duty and Royal Guard duty. I will be interested to see how Lucas deals (or doesn't) with Zahn's assertion that the clones from the clone wars went insane. It seems that the entire idea of the Clone Wars as established in the EU novels can be thrown to the wind.
  25. Quite so (not about the prick thing ). I was under the impression that the rakn of Grand Moff was strictly a political rank, but that they were given command of the forces on duty in their sectors. If one follows that chart is seems to explain the confusing rank system in ANH, and why the system used in ESB differs so greatly.
