  1. What file format are he tracks in after you've extracted them from the .gof files? I'm at a loss for the X-Wing Alliance files. It almost sounds as though LucasArts created their own file type to store the music tracs, perhaps for copyright protection.
  2. Well, he is quite right on many of his points. The army size isn't very big, but there is a reason for that. The Good campeign was just a replay of the movies, and you do lose any units over the population cap. That said, Rome Total War in multiplayer isn't that entertaining, and it's not as popular a genre as the type of RTS games of the style BFME is. The population cap discourages people from "turtling" in their bases, amassing a huge army. Game play in BFME is much faster compared to any other RTS I've played. And, if the population cap really bothers you taht much, you can always edit it out . I only have two qualms with the game. 1) There are too few 6 and 8 player multiplayer maps that have players start off with anything larger than an outpost (only three build points). While games like that can be fun, I still like the idea that I have a base I can easily defend to some degree. 2) While there is a mini mod out there that allows you to build Sauron as a hero, I would have preferred if he had already been included. I agree with you Mad, JI can't seem to find any new games that he likes. While Rome Total War is new, it's basically the other Total War games with different units and slightly beefed-up graphics . While I like BFME, I find that the developers did make it up to be more than it is. I'll play it, but I'm waiting for Red Alert 3 (in the works now), or until there is a decent 19th century RTS. Just a little side note, EA has really been pissing me off lately. They'll build a game up, release it so that we find out it's not what we thought, and then say "Oh, sorry, we're working on something new. We'll give you a skeleton staff for three months, then we're not supporting it any more". Now that RA3 is in the works, you can bet there won't be much left of the BFME community in comming months, especially since EA took out most of the scripts that the modding sommunity would like, such as tank logistics and what not. That, any few mods would work with a fixed construction system. Well, I suppose that's all for now. It's good have a little rant every now-and-then .
  3. Hmm, well a scratched CD shouldn't have that effect on the game (unless you haven't installed everything onto your hard drive) since the game doesn't actually use it while you are playing. Before I could copy my CDs to my computer I would often remove my Rebellion CD and replace it with something more entertaining music wise, like Bach or Chopin. Any who, if you are having problems with the game's performance, I suggest you look to your hardware first... unless you are running it on a 386 with a 2 GB harddrive .
  4. I would like to extend my condolences to those who have loved one in the effected areas, and hope for the confirmation of their safety. The timing is certainly not good, though there can't be a good time for something like this to happen. The current death-toll is 76,700, though the numbers could indeed rise to 100,000. one can only hope that disease can be avoided to prevent any further loss of life.
  5. Kwanza is an African holiday, similar in nature to Christmas and Hannuka I believe. I wasn't aware that any one here celebrated Kwanza. Happy Kwanza none the less!
  6. I avoid IGN for everything since they try and charge you to access images from games and simple little things like that, that they didn't use to charge for. I really dislike them.
  7. So, FileFront is bad, or FilePlanet? I'm confused
  8. Hmm, I haven't had any problems with docking. Be sure that A) you don't have the ship to be docked with set to "Auto Launch", and B) that it isn't full.
  9. Well, that assuming you aren't knocked out, or don't pass out some time between now and Christmas .
  10. I've never really understood why Europe uses a different coding/decoding system for their DVDs and televisions. There may not be a difference for the DVD image quality, but I find that, on the whole, European TV shows are of a lower image quality than American shows. Just a little off topic, but I though I'd add my two credits.
  11. Hillarious! "Your bakery products are weak old man". Classic!
  12. But what is there to elaborate on? They have a romance, her father doesn't agree with it because it would mean she would have to become mortal, she doesn't care, they hook-up in the end.
  13. That, and he said he had 6 Executors. Even on the highest unit limit, you can't have that many Super Caps. 10 gig of RAM, eh? So, where did you find A) two sticks of 5 gig a piece, or B) a mother board with 10 RAM slots? Having a plasma screen is also useless since they have a lower resolution than an LCD. Plasma was developed for TV, not computeres. For example, a 42' Plasma Monitor is limited to 852x480 resolution. With that, I could run pretty much any game with full graphics. 9.1 surround doesn't exits. 7.1 is the current max, with 6.1 being the standard since only the Star Wars movies use 6.1. Next you'll be telling us your running two Intel 5.6 GHz processors:lol: . No need to attempt to impress any one here. If you can run the mod fairly well, goo, you can enjoy larger battles than some. If you can't, you get to know the joys of controling a small fleet, playing the Captain rather than the Admiral. But comming in here and giving us rediculous PC stats like that is simply insulting. We're not idiots, we know what is and isn't possible.
  14. Ok, two things, one of which should really be in he bug thread, but the other certainly belongs here. I've just built the Tyrant Missile Cruiser for the first time today, and I must say I was a little let down. I find that the missiles are a little underpowered, especially with how slow they are to begin with. It's almost as though the torpedos/rockets that the other ships fire (SSD, Bulwark) do signifigantly more damage, though there are more of them. I just though that these should be boosted a little. While watching an attack on a Bulwark, I noticed very little drop in shields from a full salvo from three of the Tyrants. Maybe it's just under-powered lie a few other imperial ships right now? The bug is that when I zoom in 100% on the Tyrant missile cruiser there is a glitchy change in the texturing. It goes from the nice high-colour Homeworld texture, to a 256 colour Rebellion style. Just one suggestion. Since there are a lot of maps that have only a starfield for a background, is it possible to import some of the backgrounds from Freelancer and apply them to the game? There are a lot of nice nebula backgrounds, and you might even be able to create a mape entirely in a dustcloud, which would make ambushes very likely, and the game a bit more interesting. I just get the feel that all of the maps are the same. I know you're focusing on the ships/gameplay the most, but a good map can make the difference between a boring, unentertaining game and a fun-fest.
  15. Well, since Krytos is a little behind, it's only 5 days until Christmas. I hope everyone has gotten their gifts by now. If any one is missing out on the winter weather, I've got 30cm of snow and -40 degree weather I'd be more than happy to send you !
  16. Really? While reading the books I got the impression that at one time there was something between them. Then agian, it has been some time since I've read the books.
  17. Alas that is how the books were too... well, other than the whole "destruction of the Shire" thing... and runnign into Sauroman (sp?) on the road. Overall, I though the orignial cut of the movie rapped up rather quickly.
  18. In the 0.40 Pre-Release thread at the top of this forum (It's a sticky) there are a few posts that refer to this problem. I think there is a soloution in there too. Take a look, and if that doesn't solve your problem we can work from there .
  19. Ah, you intended to reply to your otehr thread, but started a new topic instead. Honest mistake . We'll just get Eville to delete this topic, or move your posts to the other thread .
  20. Alright, futher explaination has been provided since I first posted. *PLACEHOLDER*
  21. So, when you play the game, you don't have the Star Wars sound effects?
  22. Hmmm, so you installed HW2 into Homeworld2 - Warlords? And you can't get the build menu to appear? Try pushing "b" while in game. If that doesn't work, be sure that you don't have building dissabled in the game options. Not sure why you want it to be, but it's there as an option. Hope you can get it running .
  23. First off, welcome to the forums . Well, you must understand that making a mod of this quality is no simple thing. It takes time, and Eville has a life outside the mod... I think . He is constantly adding ships to the mix, updating the lists, modifying stats, balancing and checking. If he were simply to throw the Vong in there, it may ruin an entire release, a bad thing for any mod. Starting out with a small set of ships allows him to tweek and perfect them so when he adds more, he doesn't have to go back and revise the whole managere. He has to aim for a balance within the fleet (redundant ships, or one ship that covers two roles could render a certain class obsolete), and also between the fleets (sure the Vong were strong, but who wants to play a game agains an unbeatable foe?). Balance is very important to players. We're not trying to flame you, of course, just clarify some things. Hopefuly Eville feels the same way. If he doesn't, he'll surely post some additions/revisions to what I've stated.
  24. This post began as a rant about over-powered Rebel ships, but before I clicked the "submit" button, I decided I should douible check some things (I don't actually pay attention to the ship descriptions so far as armament goes for the ships I know. I just build what I love ). I was playing as the rebels (there's a first time for everything), and noticed that a lot of their ships had 40 class 10 Turbolasers. I though this was a little exorbitant, but then when I checked the Imperials the Imperial II Star Destroyers have 64 of them. So I managed to avoid a serious embarassment. However, I still have one qualm that I noticed while playing the rebel scum. Ships that would, for the Empire, be considered Super Capitol ships are classified ad cruisers. I assume this is for the sake of balance, since the Empire can produce mroe firepower with fewer ships, but it does add oen severe imbalance. If you play in the Clone Wars as the Empire, the Rebels can pump out Bulwarks, one of which can take out a fleet. In a game I posted about earlier I stated that I faced four of these, which forced me to switch from an enjoyable space battle to a race against attrition to destroy all of the enemy's production facilities. I suppose what I am getting at is, would it not make sence to remove the Bulwarks from the Clone Wars, include a few more Cruisers for the rebels and bump some of their ships up to Super Cap status?
  25. Every time I play there is always a ship, of some class, named the Phantom. It is a board this ship that my command crew for the fleet usually resides, minus the general. I tend to start off with the Phantom as a Dreadnaught. After it has proven itself, I will upgrade it to a VSD, then an ISD, and occasionally to an SSD. I treansfer all of the TIE squadrons and troops from one ship to another, ensuring the same level of compitence is maintained... ok, not really, but it's nice to think so. In the event the Phantom is destroyed, or fails to attain my standards, I fall back on the good-old Chimaera.
