  1. You know, I didn't think that I could get addicted to a swash-buckling, but I am. I've been playing Sid Meier's Pirates! for that past three days strait... ok, I took a six hour break to go to work, and I think I've slept four hours, but other than that, three days strait. What shocked me is that it's so simple! You can use your mouse and your arrow keys, or you can play the whole game with your Num Pad! Sail around, attack other ships, take them as prizes, sell the ship, it's cargo, press some of the crew, upgrade your ship, switch to a different ship, woo the daughters of local governors, earn promotions from four of the five factions (English, French, Dutch and Spanish), complete missions, search for treasure, raid cities, recruit sailors for your fleet (should you choose to amass one), defeat famous pirates to gain presige, and, if you really care about them, rescue your family that has been taken and sold into slavery by an evil Spanish Duke. What more could you want!? I reccoment this game to anyone who enjoys a simple game (well, simple to play), and is into naval combat... ok, time to get back to the seas!
  2. Although I have the feature dissabled, I do occasionally recieve topic reply notifications. I had assumed I had somehow requested such a notification for certain topics.
  3. I'm planning on staying as spoiler-free as I can. I've got a general idea of how events will turn out, but I don't want to know the gritty details. If you know little or nothing about the specifics, you'll walk out of the theater (hopefully) with the word "Wow" or something along those lines, where if you spoil it all for yourself it might simply be "Nice" or "That was good". Then again, that's just me .
  4. I spent a little time yesterday playing GTA 2, and I now understand why I didn't play it. For a bit I couldn't get past the graphics, but that subsided. After that, the fact that the city is set up in such a way as to be more maze-like than anything else turned me completely off. I guess if you spend enough time playing it to know where you're going, I can see how it could be entertaining.
  5. One could also assume that, because Eville hadn't replied, he didn't want to give permission to use his models elsewhere. After all, who are we, the players, to be saying "go ahead"? Once you give people permission to use your creations, you loose some of the control over them... Eville probably didn't reply for a reason.
  6. I really should get to know how to use my Photo Shop better, since I know it can be used for all sorts of great graphical ideas... I have the CS version, and I didn't know there was an issue with it and RAM. Still a great find Mad .
  7. Hmmm, seems every one here had a rather depressing Valentines Day... who would have thought that an online Star Wars community would have so many single men... (Don't take that as an insult since I count my self amoung you ). Looks like next year DC is going to have to accept breakfast, lunch and dinner offers .
  8. There is something that doesn't add up though. In the forum posts that Evaders provided there seems to be a prevailing sentiment that Thrawn is not a 'real" Grand Admiral, but rather that he took that rank upon himself. Yet the official SW website indicates that he was promoted to Grand Admiral and then "banished" to the Outer Rim. Why exactly is this so? I have read all of the novels and haven't come across anything that would lead me to believe Thrawn took the rank of Grand Admiral upon himself. That and the fact that Zahn created the rank, with the first character to hold it being Thrawn. I doubt very much that such a turn of events would occur. Can any one shed some light on this? EDIT:Ok, I've just taken the time to read through the forum posts (well, those that were of consiqunce to the topic). There is a good deal of information on there about the Grand Admirals that aren't generally know. However, I've also come to the conclusion that the most commonly reference source book (the Dark Empire Source Book), seems to have taken it upon itself to basically trash everything that Zahn created, turning Thrawn into a no-good Warlord who took the title of Grand Admiral himself. This seems a little childish to me. On top of that, these facts go against a plethera of otehr sources! So tell me, why do people continue to reference only one source to support their arguments when there are numerouse other contradictory sources out there!? Maybe it's just people saying Thrawn wasn't a real Grand Admiral (ok, probably), but that whole topic seems... well uninformed... then again, I think the last post was made in 2002. So tell me, why is there such a confusion as to Thrawn's real status?
  9. Thrawn wasn't dubbbed Grand Admiral, he was promoted to that rank by the Emperor. There were twelve (I think... might have been eight) Grand Admirals. All but thrawn were either killed, or defected to the Rebellion near the end of the Empire's reign.
  10. Ok, here is a screenshot of Halo 2... well, it's what Microsoft calls a screenshot, but since there's no HUD or a weapon showing, we sort of have to assume it has been touched-up to some degree. The same could be said with this screenshot from Half-Life 2, but since you don't get a weapon, nor do you have any HUD for the first 15 minues of the game... well, you decide. Of course, halo 2 is for a console and Half-Life 2 is for computer. Now, if you mean that Halo 2 is unchallenged by other console games, I'm inclined to agree. Very good graphics compared to any other I've played, and a great improvement upon the original. I'm also not bashing B&R's plan, I think it's a good idea even if I didn't like Halo. I just suggested that he wait until Repulbic Commando is released before he makes any concrete plans.
  11. As far as I can tell, I'm the only one who doesn't like it B&R, every one else is just giving sound advice, as I was in my first post. It's just that Halo was only big with the consol gaming community. The PC version was plagued with problems, and even if it weren't, it's not really up to the caliber of many PC games.
  12. Halo and it's sequal (brilliantly titled Halo 2) are, for some reason, very popular games on the Xbox. I can't understand it myself since it's very similar to Unreal Tournament with a story driven, Wolfenstien style single player. The graphics aren't really anything to bragg about either...
  13. I would definitely suggest you wait until it comes out. For starters, the game might not be very popular, and you really can't tell from the demo as to whether or not the style of gameplay will lend itself to a Halo mod. That, and it may be nearly un-modable, or at least too difficult to mod as to make your efforts not worth-while. I think that Halo in a more squad-style of gameplay would be cool. Keep us up-to-date on your efforts .
  14. There is a TC in the TC section of the main page that will increase the difficulty of the AI. I'm afraid I haven;t used it, so I can't tell you first hand how well it works, but every one I've spoken to about it says it's fantastic. It's by Cain and it can be found here. It is the third one from the top.
  15. La Boccerini la Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid No. 6, Op. 30 by Luigi Boccherini, Arr. by Bruce Dukov.
  16. I think that might be a remnant of regular gameplay with Homeworld2. I know that the AI focussed alot on smaller craft, especially fighters and corvettes because they had alot more punch against larger craft in regular Homeworld2, whic is not the case in Warlords. You might have to completely redo the AI to get them to change their ways.
  17. Well, I'm not the creator of this little gem, but I thought it was great fun. It's quite long, and there is some foul language involved, but it's worth it.
  18. I've just exchanged a white uniform and blue face for a blue uniform and white face . Lord Nelson is just tiding me over until I can find a decent picture of someone closer to home
  19. I just got it to download for me (Around 10:09 here, so it's probably 8:00-9:00 where you are Igor). I've got about 10 minuntes until the D/L is finished
  20. There are a lot of lawsuits like this going on right now. Marvel is sueing (sp?) NCSoft for City of Heroes because it allows you ot make characters similar to their copyrighted material... but then, can you copyright claws, body hair, and lasers? Yahoo! is just trying to scare the competition, or look for some easy money (Google is doing much better). Nothing will come of it I'm sure.
  21. Well, I would suggest any of the numerous online stores, where you can pay as little as 99 cents per song, assuming they have the Star Wars soundtracks for sale. If not, look in your local music retaler to see if they have what you're looking for.
  22. I noticed something while browsing the individual forums in the LucasForums. There is NO Rebellion forum. Grim Fandango has a forum. Sam and Max have a forum. The Rogue Squadron games have a forum. Damn it, even Monkey Island has a forum! Where is Rebellion? I'll tell you where: CRAMED INTO A LITTLE, NON-EXISTANT CORNER UNDER THE CLASSINC GAMING, UNDER ANOTHER SUB FORUM FOR RTS GAMES, LUMPED IN WITH GALACTIC BATTLEGROUNDS AND FORCE COMMANDER!For sooth! Fie upon them! God rot them all! I appologise for the caps, any strong or offencive language, and for any animals that were harmed during the typing of this post, but damnit that pissed me off! EDIT:Well, after I figured out that the default view for that forum was to see all posts within the last few days, I realized that the hole was darker than I had first though. Indeed, one of the most recent threads was from JediGreg, with links to the old EZboard .
  23. Well, people like particularly brutal crimes. Maybe "like" isn't the correct word, rather, people are encaptured by them I'm not sure how or why some of them gain national publicity over others, but I'm sure there is some sort of credentials the news agencies have to decide what gets aired. Maybe focusing on one particular crime allows us to ignore the others, or at least block them out to some degree.
  24. I think they're moving away from the beta testing stage and into the final product. I also have 50 invites.
  25. There isn't a prerequisite number of posts to become a member of the community. You've been a member since your first post, and will be until well after your last post . Congrats on 300 b&r!
