Well, Dr. Saxton is really just trying to clarify some things (ranks and what not), and to put a real-world spin on some aspects of Star Wars. I personally don't pay his descriptions and names (such as Imperator-Class) any heed. They're listed as Imperial Star Destroyers on StarWars.com, and as Imperial-Class Star Destroyers as well, under the EU tab. Since this hasn't been contradicted anywhere else, I choose to take this as the "truth" so far as it is possible. But, as stated in another post by Jahled, Star Wars is what we each make of it. I don't think there is going to be a debate about any of the points (I contemplated mentioning that the Lusankya was the first SSD constructed, not the Executor). I was simply looking for clarification on some points .

Revenge of the Sith Teaser Trailer
Hmm, disturbing this is. I'll see if I can fiddle around with it to get it working. EDIT:Ok, can you see it now? If so, it all has to do with my being logged into my MSN account... -
Well, not in the movies at least. After the fall of the Empire the New Republic started using them, though some of their new ships are suppose to be tougher (I don't recall reading this in any EU books, but there it is).

Hmmm, it's still going for me. I know that sometimes the MSN Groups system messes up and freezes Gifs on their first frame. I'm not sure what causes this, but I used to have the same problem with my old one. It should resolve itself soon. -
Revenge of the Sith Teaser Trailer
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to a topic in General Discussion
Note that he wears it athwart-ships, rather than fore and aft. Alas the latter was increasingly popular in the navy at that time. All of the young officers, with no respect of tradition! -
No, there was no way to destroy it, no matter what difficulty you tried on. I beat the game on all levels, unlocking all of the bonuses and whatnot, but no hints. If you really wanted to spice up that last battle, you could also switch over to an X-Wing or TIE Fighter, though with the TIE it was alot harder to take out the stations core... Just a question (ok, maybe a few): first, why is it that many people call it an Imperator-Class Star Destroyer? Every official source I've read refers to it as an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer:?. Second, are Star Destroyers (I'll call them ISDs for neutrality) Cruisers (as han calls them in ANH), Destroyers (as their name would suggest)? There seemed to be some turmoil over this in the Warlords forum at one time. Third, was there two or four ISDs chasing the Falcon at Tatooine? Finally, and completely off-topic, has any one else noticed that Lando stuttered in the hangar bay of the Home One in RotJ when he was talking to Han? I think he says "I know how much she means to you. She, she, won't get a scratch". Sorry, but I noticed this yesterday at work (no, it didn't just occur to me, we had it playing on the TVs ).

Occasionally I will head into the forums, but decide to go elsewhere before I spend alot of time replying, and despitethe fact that I haven't entered a specific forum, all of the posts are marked as being read. I haven't had this occur right off the bat, without having to enter the forums at all however.

Glad you like it , it took me long enough to get the bloody layers to show up in ImageReady, and then even longer to get the bloody program to save it as a Gif. I'm glad it works too . -
Revenge of the Sith Teaser Trailer
Well, if I can't get into the 12:01 am showing, I'll hit it later in the afternoon. There's nothing more annoying than getting into a theater and finding it filled with 12 year-olds! -
Revenge of the Sith Teaser Trailer
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to a topic in General Discussion
I don't think they moved the location, I think that they originally planned to have it at the other theater. I sort of blame the fans for not paying enough attention to where it was showing. I am wondering why they always put Star Wars in quotations in that article? It's not as though it's some sort of code-name or nick-name for the series, nor the group of fans. Maybe CNN thinks that the movies take a second place to the once-proposed-now-renewed-to-some-degree Star Wars space defence? -
"Can ‘Star Wars: Episode III’ be saved?"
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Trejiuvanat's topic in General Discussion
Well, this is the only part I'm going to quote, and it will become evident why in a minute. I wasn't attempting to justify the way GL developed the movies. I agree that they are in no way up-to-par with the OT. There is much about Ep. I and II that I disliked. I too could have done without Gungans, pretty much the whole section on Tatooine (well, through to the fight between Qui-Gon and Maul) and certainly without Jar Jar. I would have been completely happy had there been a better written interchange between Padme and Anakin instead the stiff and unimaginative dialogue we have. I could have also done without the 3P0/Battle Droid mixup in AotC. What I was attempting to do was to give you a view at the other side of things. They certainly weren't the best movies in the world, but I feel you're a little harsh. I personally can't bring myself to watch TPM without the remote in my hand to skip the boring parts, but what I do watch I enjoy. AotC was only ruined (IMO) by the poor dialogue and presentation of Anakin, and by anything that transpired on Naboo. I felt that you had allowed your dislike (indeed, hatred) of certain aspects of the prequels to cloud your judgement on other aspects of hte movies as well. Compare, and I meen really compare, the OT to the new movies. I think you will find that they have more in common than you think. Also, if you look at the OT, I think you'll also find that it follows closer to a saturday morning kid's show than you may previousley thought. For example, ESB was by far the best of the movies, yet the ending irked me. One of the main characters was trapped and needed to be rescued. All it needed was a "Tune in next week. Same bat time... same bat channel" and it would have been perfect. What I think, and possibly you think, killed the new movies to a degree isthe fact that Lucas wasn't as subtle in his inclusion of these traits. The prequels run the same course of events, just slightly reordered, but where fans slowly learned of Luke's talent i the force, watched him train, and had a good idea from the start that he was an acomplished pilot of air vehicles (pod racers IMO don't count as anything but glorified speeders), we find that in Ep. I Lucas gets lazy and simply throws it at us: WOW, HE HAS MORE OF THESE LITTLE MICROBE TINGIES THAN YODA! HE'LL BE ALL POWERFUL, followed later by :I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TURN THIS SHIP ON, BUT I'LL MAGICALLY FLY IT AND SINGLE HANDEDLY WIN THIS BATTLE! I think that is why most people (or many at least) didn't like Ep. I and II to the same degree as the OT. Everything was too overdone, as though we're too stupid to catch on on our own. That, and SFX filled alot of the movies. Now, to address to points off-topic: the tone in which, and indeed much of the reason that, my last post was presented was the immature manner in which you presented your dislike. Rather than select your areas of dislike and thoughtfuly presenting them in a mannerbecoming an adult, you simply grabbed chunks of the movie and stated that they sucked, were retarded, stupid, or farfetched. Hence, I presented something to the contrary of your post, and in a manner as childish as I could muster. As you said you're 29, I would have expected something more thought provoking instead of just provoking. (I'm sure this will find a segment in your next reply, but oh well). As for my being a 35 year old fatger of 2, I'm closer to a 19 year old single student, just for clarity . EDIT:I had meant to post this earlier, but I was pressed for time and was nearly late for work. I wanted to apologise for the tone in which my last post was made. Tit for tat is not at all the way to conduct a debate or discussion, and the immaturity of that post was quite uncalled for. Sarcasm has it's place, but I took it too far. -
Yeah, it's a tactical game. I'm not sure what it's like, but since I can't even register, I won't bother. I finally updated and entered SkyBlade: Sword of the Heavens. I would eqate it as an MMO version of Diable II, but with four "classes" to choose from. I use "" because it seems that each "class" is unique only in it's element of choice. There also seems to be a shortage of male chracters. I had to choose a female character (nothing wrong with that, though). There seems to be a lot more to it that Diablo, but I'm not sure it's the kind of game people here would like (I think I'll uninstall it myself). That, and most of the players are speaking Korean.

While I was looking at some sites for EverQuest 2 (yes, I play "EverCrack") there was an advertisement for some Korean MMOs. It turned out that they were free, and that you can download them from FilePlanet.com. The one, which I really wanted to play, had you construct a ship from WW II. I'm not sure how it played since I couldn't get past the registration (if there is any one who speaks Korean, please tell me so you can translate). I've just registerd for an MMO called SkyBlade. It's done in 2D, but the screens looked decent considering it's free. I'll let you folks know what it's like.

Wow... I banged my knee on a ladder twice today, but somehow I don't feel so bad now.

Since I found more enjoyment in the actual building than in the playing, my LEGO spent much of its time in a Tubbermade container. Over the course of time I lost enough pieces to make building anything nearly impossible without pieces from another set (somehow a few yellow bricks on a Space Police ship doesn't work for me ). I would buy some of the Star Wars LEGO, but I'm not a big fan of the prequel LEGO, and I can't find any decent OT stuff... and it's bloody expensive ($12 for a Star Destroyer the size of a USB key )!

From what I have read the Theory of Everything was suggested by Einstein, but I do not believe it was his ultimate goal. Like String Theory, the Theory of Everything was dropped for some time until new discoveries made it more plausable. It seems that is how humanity evolves: we create, we laugh at our creation, we forget our creation, we discover, we dust off our creation, we build upon our creation. Unfortunately this also applies to the fashion world...

You have to remember that Anakin and Obi-Wan weren't in that transport to enter the battle. They were just rescued from what would ceratinly been their deaths, and they were in the company of a senator that earlier in the movie the Jedi Council was doing all it could to keep safe. So, although they outranked them by being Jedi, they weren't there to command those clone troopers. As for the initiative, if you were flying through a combat zone, explosions going off on all sides of your ship, would you consider a 60 year-old man on an unarmed speeder bike running away from the battle a top priority, even if he were being escorted by two armed fighters? The clones didn't know who Dooku was. They weren't being trained on Kameno to fight Dooku and his cronies, they were simply being trained. Add to thise a top-priority senator who happens to be in the back of your ship and I think the answer is clear. As for the missiles, well... Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme board the Clone Trooper Transport. "Thank you for the rescue" Obi-Wan said. "We're out of missiles" "Erm... ok." The transport lifts off and soars away. A short while later three black specks appear on the sand below. "I see Dooku" "What!? How could you know it's him, I just sensed him through the Force!" Obi-Wan exclaimed. "I see Dooku, but we're out of missiles." As for the artillery, at the beginning of the battle those ships weren't trying to escape, and those batteries were most likely providing support for the infantry and forward regiments during the height of the combat, like any seriousely trained officer would have. It is quite possible to unquestionably follow orders, but still retain a sence of self, imagination and initiative, without any of the punishments you've mentioned. If a soldier is sent on a suicidal mission he has objectives set out for him. It is up to him how he goes about completing each objective. This requires both imagination and initiative. I would point to any modern military to support this. While each soldier has a name, they are all dressed alike to make them less individual. Are modern armies flawed (in this respect that is) as well? Who said clones weren't allowed to demonstrate initiative? They are sentient beings, capable of independant thought. If a missile is slowly heading towards a group of troopers, will they stand there thinking "well, I wasn't told to move, so I guess I get blown to hell". On top of that, it's quite possible that some clones were created to be squad leaders, that were less "docile" that their common breatheren. I point again to the commander Yoda spoke to at the Forward Command Centre. While the clones develope at an increased rate physically, they would not mentally. When the first clone army was sent into combat in AotC, how old were they, five, six years old? Their minds would still be quite malleable at that age. Even if this were not the case, the survivors would be more well versed in combat than they were before. A soldier who fought all the way through a war would gain skills based on his experiences, would learn new techniques to deal with situations, would adapt. When I started my job I had no idea what I was doing. I have since learned ways to perform certain tasks more efficiently. Each clone would have a different set of experiences from combat. Not all of them would have engaged a droideka, or watched a squad of troops attempt to break an enemy strongpoint. From these they would take away knowledge... that, and I doubt they only learned one way to deal with any given situation when they were trained. At the risk of ranting, I would like you to consider military combat in the 18th and early 19th century. It was basically to armies lining up and shooting at each other, with the odd horse charge, with some cannons firing from behind. I'd say this would make for pretty damn predictable combat, and yet generals like Napoleon, Wellington and Brock managed to out-smart their opponents often, and that with troops who couldn't even look to their left or right, but were to simply stand, fire, reload, and march when they were told. Now on to some of your rebuttles with the officer pool. So how do we know that all, or even most, of the clone officers were gone by the time of the OT? On top of that, there is almost a twenty year gap between RotS and ANH, pleanty of time for capable officers to rise up throug the ranks, and gain experience in combat. What about the young recruited officers who fought in the Clone Wars? Perhaps they weren't leading the armies, but there may well have been recruited officers who survived the Clone Wars to command in the Empire.

I have to go with a Star Destroyer. it doesn't really matter which class, I just fancy them.

Well, I'll start by going off topic for a second: beatify is actually "To proclaim (a deceased person) to be one of the blessed and thus worthy of public religious veneration in a particular region or religious congregation." To declare someone a saint is to Canonise someone (they must be dead though). Back on topic (somewhat): The only problem with MMORPGs mad is that a) we'd all have to pay for it; b) we'd all have to be able to run it one our computers; c) it would have to be one we all agree on and would enjoy. Some tough requirements .

Did they do two releases of the Space Police sets? I used to have the entire set, even some not shown in SOCL's links, but all of my stuff was grey and black, with some red highlights, and all of the transparent plastic was a dark green. There was a really cool ship with a folding centre on it. When it was open there was a little jail box that it could carry. I was never really big on the Blacktron guys. Black, white and yellow just wasn't as cool. EDIT:Never mind. It seems I had all of hte Space Police II stuff, which was released in 1992.

If we look closely at the words used, however, we see that it says "their eventual evolution", their being the clone troopers. Now, had it said inspiration, the precurser, or something alone those lines, I would agree with you, however I think the chosen wording eliminates any possible misconceptions.

Hmm, I've come across an interesting bit of information. I'm surprised this hasn't been pointed out, since it is on StarWars.com: I think that this, in conjunction with other arguments here, can safely put the argument to rest

Revenge of the Sith Teaser Trailer
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to a topic in General Discussion
Oooh, nice. I liked Unleashed myself, but Tregedy was a close second (ok, there's only three, but I meant really close ) A hope sprung up while I was walking around at work today and saw our display for the new RotS action figures and toys (I picked up the Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker lightsaber with colour changing blade [was very tempted to get a Vader mask, but I didn't think my head would fit in ]), I'm really hoping that I get to see Vader in action with a lightsaber in RotS. In the OT he always seemed stiff when he was fighting. The new choriography would greatly improve his image (maybe have him take Mace out )
