LOTR Battle for Middle Earth
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to bobandrubert's topic in Outside Interests
Just wondering, has any one gotten the game yet? I've seen it on the shelves and have considered getting it, but I've also heard that it is lacking in some areas. just want to be sure I'm not back in the store in two months trading it in for some strore credit. -
Return of the King extended version
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to dinochick's topic in Outside Interests
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm in agreement with Krytos. The previous two were much better, in my opinion, with the extended scenes. I read the books first, so I was somewhat mortified when I saw how much was cut from the movies. My dad will probably buy the extended trillogy boxed set, so I'll have to plan a visit to watch them . -
Really? I'll take some pictures and post them for you .

For me Christmas has transcended from the gift-giving and religous foundation of the holidays. It is simply a time of joy and, indeed, good-will towards men (mankind that is). At the moment I work in the retail industry to pay for my university, and despite the stresses I go through at work, I still tink Christmas is the best holiday of the year!

LOTR Battle for Middle Earth
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to bobandrubert's topic in Outside Interests
While I found the books to fall far below the level of praise they were given, I am looking forward to The Battle for Middle Earth, but only for the gameplay and the moddig possibilities. I personally think that J.R.R. would be mortified at the level of commercialization the executors of his estate have subjected his series of books to. -

I hadn't taken any screen shots of the game, so I tried to duplicate it. This time, however, I was in for more of a surprise. I hadn't realized that during the ANH era the Rebellion can build Bulwarks. Apparentlym the AI was well aware of this. They didn't build as many Dreadnaughts, but you can see where the resources for about 150 of them has gone. http://img132.exs.cx/img132/2495/ss000080hg.jpg http://img17.exs.cx/img17/6083/ss000097zu.jpg http://img17.exs.cx/img17/7681/ss000100xd.jpg http://img17.exs.cx/img17/3489/ss000116va.jpg http://img83.exs.cx/img83/7788/ss000126ar.jpg http://img83.exs.cx/img83/2213/ss000131rk.jpg http://img83.exs.cx/img83/2289/ss000145fa.jpg http://img83.exs.cx/img83/5092/ss000156ug.jpg http://img83.exs.cx/img83/4350/ss000161hh.jpg http://img83.exs.cx/img83/2746/ss000172nv.jpg http://img118.exs.cx/img118/9530/ss000191gt.jpg http://img118.exs.cx/img118/2616/ss000200vc.jpg http://img118.exs.cx/img118/904/ss000210zl.jpg http://img118.exs.cx/img118/5505/ss000221pf.jpg It was quickly evident that fighting wasn't going to get me anywhere, since they were building Dreadnaughts and Bulwarks faster than I could destroy them, so I focused only on their construction, using hyperspace to jump around their base. In the end I won, but with heavy losses. -
Best of luck! We're all pulling for you!

Something Amiss?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Warlords (Homeworld 2)
To make me feel better after my earlier defeat I set the restrictions to ANH and gave the computer lots of breathing space to build. When I attacked I had 20 VSD Is, 20 VSD IIs, and 10 ISD Is, plus 50 TIE Fighters (which were destroyed in a dust cloud before they could make it to the battle). Much to my surprise I was facing a Katana Fleet, litteraly. I counted upwards of 213 Dreadnaughts, as well as a liberal smattering of about 47 Y-Wing Squadrons, which surprisingly didn't see much action. In the end I was the victor, but only because their Dreadnaughts were split apart, formed into six small groups. -

I wasn't paying really close attention to the types of the Mon Cals. Upon closer inspection, many of what I assumed to be early-generation Mon Cals were really more advanced NJO ships (as pointed out by Eville). I didn't know that the Executor was so under armed, but I quickly found that the Sovereign was bugged. Many of he ships that you have taken for Rebel Krytos are actually my frigates. The rebels only built larger capitol ships, and very few ships below an MC-80. I hadn't realized that the Empire becomes so un-advanced with the later eras, though I'm sure that would be fixed if the super-caps were all up to snuff. -
Thist really should be in the suggestions thread, but since it will be greaphic-heavy, I thought it best to make a new topic. Alrigh. I just finished playing a game as the Empire, no restrictions on the tech. My fleet was as follows: 1 Executor Class Command Ship 1 Sovereign Class Command Ship 1 Allegiance Class Cruiser 5 Imperator II Class Destroyers 5 Imperator III Class Destroyers 10 Victory II Class Destroyers 8 Victory I Class Destroyers 10 Lancer Frigates 6 Carrack Light Cruisers 6 Loronar Strike Cruisers 2 Eidolon Striker Cruisers 25 Squadrons of TIE Interceptors 25 Squadrons of TIE Defenders 10 Squadrons of Assault Gunboats 20 Squadrons of TIE Bombers All of this, agains: 3 Bulwarks 1 Independance 7-8 Mon Cals of the basic designs (winged and un-winged that is, toal of 16 or so) 1 of the stubby green guys 1 Mon Remonda 10 Squadrons of B-Wings 10 Squadrons of Y-Wings 4-5 Republic Destroyers Now, my first rant. How was I defeated? I can see taking heavy losses, but I was barely able to dent any of the rebel ships, taking out only five or six ships, none of them the big ones. Yet my entire fleet was destroyed. Not only that, but the Bulwarks and the Independance were able to withstand two full broadsides from my combined fleet. To me this simply isn't possible. Any suggestions/comments? First off, welcome to the forums! So, that said, there is Rebellion Re-loaded comming out in the near future, a community created mod/total conversion with many a great mind working on it. I suggest you hold out for that, as it promisses to make great changes.

Ye Banks and Braes - Folk Song (Bagpipe version) -
Yes, I haven't spent much time considering it. I'll wait to hear from Eville about any possible changes he will make to 0.40, then begin with the planning. We may be able to get it set up for some time in the new year.

Well, I suppose playing agains a human player would efinitley reduce the lagging that is going on. I, too, have trouble finding people to play aginst. None of my friends like to go head-to-head, but prefer to play together aginst the AI.

From the looks of things you've done some modifications, but I'll assume you've left the basic ship statistics alone. The Rebel fighters are rather effective, so I would have to say that the 23 X-Wings might off-set any adbantage the Empire has in firepower. It is a rather even show. I have to favour the Rebels in this instance. The Corellian Corbettes are almost useless against the ISD IIs since they are only armed with laser cannons. They would, however, pose a great threat to the TIE Fighters and TIE Defenders. In tandom with the 23 squadrons of X-Wings, that pretty much cancels out the Imperial fighters. The Nebulon-B would be easy prey for the CC-9600s since they have double the hull strenght, and have triple the firepower on their port and starboard sides. If the VSDs worked with the CC-9600s, this would leave only the ISD IIs, since Bulk Transports have no weapons. So, that said, the Imperials still have a great advantage in firepower. A single ISD II has nearly double the firepower and hull strenght than a VSD II, with only a slight advantage in shielding. The CC-9600s have equal fire power to the ISD IIs on their port and starboard sides, though they are greatly lacking in their forward quarters (not even half the firepower of the ISD IIs there). It now comes down to a matter of tactics. If you simply throw your ships at the Imperials, I'm afraid you don't stand a chance. However, if you send your Corellian Corvettes in a headlong charge at the ISDs, along with your fighrers, have your CC-9600's keep the ISDs to their sides in a constant shifting of position, keeping the ISD's forward sections either out of range, or in a useless fireing arch, you should be able to widdle away at them. You would also need to place your VSDs at the rear of the ISDs, the only section in which they out-gun them. It is quite possible that the computer, not being much of a tactician, would focus on your Corvettes, leaving you to pummel them into a slow death, if not, you have to keep a close eye on your ships and their positions. So, what was the eventual outcome? (Please excuse the arrows, but I find that it is rather difficult to read when it is a single block of text)

I don't think the ship icons have been included in this release yet, though as to why not is any one's guess. I find them rather helpful when I'm playing as the Rebels (it happens some times), but I only build a select few ships as the Imperials, so it's not too much of a problem.

Bantha poodoo! There are many things in there, such as the existence of Mara Jade, that tend to suggest he's making it all up. Also, the plot is a little too simple, even for George Lucas.

Very nice on both counts! The Arch Hammer looks fantastic. Has it been skinned, or does it naturally look that good? For your Fyyar card, did you do the image yourself, or is it a modified image from the game? -
Eville, I think you should send an e-mail to the developers of mods like CS telling them that when you are developing a mod, you keep updating and adding and improving! Then direct them to your mod so that they know what pure genious looks like! I'd say I love you too, but Pallaeon has beaten me to the punch. EDIT: Just wondering, will there be an update adding the icons/images for the ships, to replace the Alliance/Imperial emblem? It's not that big of a deal, but I do like the picture (they often help me choose the composition of my fleet.). Also, there are lots of maps that are just starscape backgrounds. Are there plans to complete those?

Hmmm, could be challenging since there are so few people who have sigs. I too vote for Mad87. I know I don't go anywhere without my PalpyCard! I do have to say that Trej's comes in a close second. I am now truly anticipating Rebellion Reloaded. That, and I love the Thrawn that's in it!

Are you talking about your forum rank? You get to a higher rank by making posts that contribute to a discussion (that is, no spamming ). Topics such as this would be better placed in the General forum, and there is a thread in there that should answer any further questions you may have on this topic... and some that you don't .

Well, that would serve to balance things out a little, but in the end the Rebels still have a clear advantage.
