  1. Let me try hosting next time Kaos... I hosted today for pyschobob and we played 850 days straight to end of game without a single rebexe error.
  2. Thanks to the following people for showing up tonight: Brianlara CDL_Vader KAOS (S734L7H) PYSCHOBOB I know since we had some snags, not everyone got the game they were looking for... so we agreed to meet up again tomorrow.
  3. Thanks to Evaders for posting this on the home page. Also, come prepared. Please make sure you have 1.01 installed and copy your GData folder from cd over to your installation directory if you have been playing with rebed. For the IRC illiterate: 1) D/L mirc 6.17 at http://www.mirc.com 2) First time you run it asks for some info, just put in your nick and a fake email. Close the options box. 3) At bottom of main window (large white area) there is a grey bar just above your windows taskbar where you enter chat text and irc commands, enter "/server irc.blazeirc.net" without quotations of course, and press the ENTER key. 4) After connecting to the server, enter "/join #swrebellion" in the same box, and press ENTER.
  4. Well I was just tweaking around... but the unbuildable royal guards seems like a good idea. I had not added any custom cards yet, I may perhaps replace the B-Wing with a Z-95, etc. or Tie Defenders with Tie Advances.
  5. Well I also inflated most of the capital ship costs and maintence requirements, I was trying to keep both sides balanced while giving the game an edgier perspective to the movies. I also locked many of the characters ranks to their encyclopedia or movie roles. Ozzel/Ackbar can only be admirals, etc. Palpatine can be an admiral (Death Star Fleet) and Leia can be a General (she can be bitchy when she doesn't get her way). I also removed all troop research and disabled Sullustian/MonCal units for rebels and disabled AssaultDroids/DarkTroopers units for empire. (3 unit types per side) Most of the light capital ship researchs have been changed to be available at start, I reduced ship researches to 4 levels for each side. I changed the death star to last research and boosted hull, troop, fighter statistics to represent Death Star II, since it would make no sense to rebuild a v.1 death star after the failure at Yavin. This is a mod with multiplayer perspective in mind, so I was trying to keep things relatively balanced as much as possible. Here is my file: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/mmoldavan/RebellionProV4.reb
  6. Sticking to the traditional Star Wars movies I used rebed to do the opposite. I disabled Defenders and B-Wings. X-Wing had laser power 10, A-Wing was 5 but considerably faster and more manuervable. I removed lasers from Y-Wing and Tie Bomber, and increased Ion and Torpedo loads to make them an ineffective anti-fighter and more effective anti-ship unit. Lastly, I boosted the range from 17 to 20 for all weapons, and increased the Tie Interceptor to 4/4 main/prod while Tie Fight/Bomb are 3/3. All rebel fighters are 5/4.
  7. Hey bob, why don't you meet up with us in the #swrebellion chat, bring whoever you can dig up. If the newbs need some training or vets want to have some games for old time sake, I want to try to start a weekly session. Of course that's convenient for U.S./Canada Players... Asian and Euro players can make their own convenient session times to meet weekly would be a good idea too. Tourney Practice!

  9. Well at the time, for most of the MSN Zone Rebellion multiplayers, if we were not playing Rebellion, then we were probably playing Age of Kings or The Conquerors expansion. Being that it was the same game engine, there was little or no learning curve, just an adaption to units and strategy, the expansion for Battlegrounds was quite nice as well. The only problem with the game was the timing of release, LEC waited too long to jump on board because Ensemble released Age of Mythology a few months later with much improved graphics.

Being a huge fan of the new Battlestar Galactica series I would love to see a mod with ship models for the human fleet and viper/raptors vs. Cylon basestars, replication ships, fighters, and troop transports. A galactic map indicating the 12 colonies, various resource systems and hidding places, and perhaps a hidden earth the fleet would have to find.

  12. I'm still wondering why it's been 1998 since the last time LEC put out a space simulator... X-Wing Alliance was bit bland with the story line... the original Tie Fighter for DOS (1994) had an amazing storyline and the missions were very involving for a game of the time. I would like to see a modern graphic engine with dx9.0c or Vista's dx10 for a Star Wars space sim... Tie Fighter 2!
  13. Well I've tried running the rebexe.exe through various decompiler and disassemblers available across the net with very little success. Even if you did find one that could decifer the code, many of the variables and parameters would not be recoverable. Reverse engineering the game would not be plausible, you may as well code a new engine from scratch to work with the game resources. I was actually attempting to disassemble rebed with various delphi decompilers since the readme file claims it was written in delphi v.3 but none have been successful. I tried v.26 and v.22, if anyone else has older versions of rebed on hand, let me know, or xdcc them to me in #swrebellion.

  15. It's more likely you will be rebels (hq victory) and get an escort carrier, perhaps 2 if you are super lucky. Coruscant rush and be finished near day 100. If the fighting to heavy, send han/chew/antillies/luke to sab any capital ships, mop up the rest. I once defeated someone on standard victory conditions as rebels in multi in under 350 days, assaulted coruscant and by luck captured palpatine with general in process. Then esp mission showed vader nearby and sent han/luke after him and caught him on first try. To say the least. the other player was convinced I had cheated him.

OMG Hell freezes over Hey kaos, I was out last night, but I shall be on irc channel tonight if you want to finish our game.

Of course I was playing S734L7H online tonight and I was empire so I just ran around, kicked him out of Sesswenna, and scorched the other 3 sectors (medium galaxy) by assaulting planet and scraping all the facilities. He used solo, chewie, and antillies to sab two of my vsds and some troops of uprising planets and turned sectors to his favor, I let him keep them and raped them. It's day 330 now and he has a rag tag fleet of 3 carriers and fighters and I have an ISD, 9 Carracks, and 80 tie fighters spread around sesswenna... so it's anyone game. He has more planets, but I raid pretty regularly so they are not of much value. (are you reading, is it a bluff? you'll have to find out...) Don't go into a game with too many strategies, you're just going to lose. Play nasty and cheap... it's the only way to win.

There used to be a cool channel called TechTV... then G4 bought it, called it G4TechTv for a while and killed all the cool shows and fired all the knowledgeable hosts... then it sucked... so they took the "TechTV" out and called it just G4 again. End result... G4 moved from a sucky channel 148 to a sucky channel 70 on my cable box and I lost a great channel that used to be half decent. Thanks G4!
  21. I was always for grabbing the planets with construction yards first. Why? Because I can then use them to build shipyards for myself. As for defense, I exclusively stock as many fighters as possible, bombers and interceptor mixes... if you fall in the negative you don't have to worry about losing units quickly and you can keep your capitals on the move so they won't be lost. Lancers are the most powerful tool to empire fleet since rebel strengths are with their fighters. "Speed fleet" of VSDs and Carracks should be assembled as a fast response tool. Force the rebels out of sesswenna ASAP at beginning of game, assault and subdue any planets in the sector. When subduing uprisings... remove as many troops as possible while leaving 1 or 2 garrisons. Assign subdue missions in groups of 2-3 strong leadership characters per team with at least 2 teams. You can easily sway a strong rebel planet to neutral or empire favor within 10 days of play. Also use incite uprise missions on local rebel planets without garrisons while your diplomats are on the nearby neutrals. This will create a push/pull effect on sector diplomacy.
  22. i don't know of any active clans... it was enjoyable when I was younger... now I got classes and a job and everything else in between, how about we form a new chat room for the old school zoners and if you want to EaW or play whatever else, we can do that...

  24. My assumptions (as it appears on film) from the original trilogy are that the standard Tie Fighter, while unshielded, appeared to have great agility. An X-Wing is going to slaughter it on a head to head engagement, but once the fight gets close quarters, the advantage falls to the Ties which can out manuever the X-Wings in a dogfight. Therefore, Imperial mass production... low cost, large quantities, expect to take some losses in initial engagement, and ace pilots dogfight in close quarters.
  25. Star Wars should have never grown past the original trilogy, that was the only time I ever enjoyed or respected the storyline. The special edition followed by the prequel trilogy destroyed all former praise I had for it as a kid.
