In the game, will the Venator-class be used more as a fleet carrier or as a conventional "all-round" warship like the Imperial-class?
-
Sure it does, the Alliance has a history of stealing old or obsolete units from the Empire. A5 and A6 Juggernauts, ISP speeders, AT-PT walkers, Nebulon-B frigates and other ship-types. Stealing LAAT gunships fits in with their history.

Did you count your Clones before they where hatched?

If he's a Petroglyph employee, then what he says is offical. Besides, the Acclamator has been known for months, ever since the start of the project. That is nothing new. -

Maybe, but it might also have V-wings, Eta-2s or ARC-170s... Possibly the TIE fighter (white one, seen in ANH) rather than the grey TIE/ln (from ESB, ROTJ). -
The reason it wasn't seen in the OT (besides not being designed yet IRL) was that: a) Sandtroopers already used Sentinel-class drop ships on Tatooine. b) Hoth had an energy shield around the Echo Base. Only walkers and crawlers can get through those and still function. Anything that doesn't touch the ground, would short-circuit and fall down after passing. The T-47's were fine due to already being inside the shield's perimeter, therefore the Alliance had aircover while the Empire did not. (Though smaller repulsorcraft could have been carried inside AT-ATs, if the Empire had wanted it. c) The Forest-moon of Endor had lots of trees. Even speederbikes had trouble navigating through them, and bigger walkers like the AT-AT could only patrol cleared areas. Now, the only OT-source with LAATs in it, is the upcoming Battlefront II, but that's only the Rebel side. If they are considered obsolete by the Empire, remains to be seen...

Since the Acclamator has been known throughout the entire production, he can't have been talking about that. It's either Venator or Tector (the Imperial's non-hangar brother, basically the design-opposite of a Venator).

AT-AP replied to Moriarty101's topic in EAW General Discussion
Yup. Though they weren't slow, quite the opposite (Just watch the A6 in ROTS). They were just phased out and handed to Outer Rim forces. Even so, most planetary garrisons liked them better than the AT-ATs, so they did find a niche (kinda like the Venator with it's carrying capabilities, if that's what it does in the game). The Eta-2 and Delta-7 could be used by non-Force sensitives (especially the Eta-2 was used by ordinary Republic and early Imperial pilots), but eventually the were phased out. -
Is anyone going to mod this game like the mods that are popping up of EaW? It seems when the thing finally ships, there's going to be little in the way of new vehicles (other than more fighters). Would be fun to see a vehicle-centric mod done in the vein of Forgotten Hope (a great BF1942 mod for armored combat). I've heard of the SW mod for BF1942 (Galactic Conquest), is that kinda like what I described?

Shield Generators or Sensor Domes, Mystery solved.
AT-AP replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in EAW General Discussion
That doesn't make any sense. Even when A-Wing pilots are at their best, their planes don't have enough firepower to down the main shields on a warship of that size. The A-wings appeared to be shooting concussion missiles into the dome (missiles instead of laserbolts due to the relatively slow speed), but this was only possible because the main shields were down. That's how SW battles work, warships take down shields, fighters harass until the shields come down and then puncture vital surface-areas. I don't believe this logic will be kept in the game, but the battles will look spectacular enough. -
This isn't so much a creative/mod/concept artwork as I simply used the crude method of copy&paste to measure the different land craft used by the Republic and the Empire and put them all in a big picture. Hopefully modders or anyone wanting to do stuff with somewhat correct proportions will find this pic useful. Note, there are some vehicles where I simply had to make a guess at length/height (the MT-AT for instance), so double-check with a written source if you need more exact dimensions. Enjoy! http://img331.imageshack.us/img331/6546/vehiclestoscale8wl.jpg

Rumors of the SSDs involvemnt have been false.

I remember a card that had the ISD I labled a Victory-class destroyer. Nice. >__ -

Yeah, some people make fun of those who nitpick about the inconsistencies like this, but really, it's Lucasarts (and by relation Lucasfilms') own fault by having there be two sub-classes of the same design in the first place! Asking them to follow their own rules isn't too much is it? -

The game seems to end when the DS does. Since you can create your own story, the battle of yavin could occur without the destruction of the DS or with out it even being present. This way, one would get all the classic battles and most of the vehicles, besides the ROTJ-era ones (if I understand it correctly). -
That is true, Saxton is resourceful and tireless when he's searching for sources and quotes (I'm even on the list of people who contributed to something on the site. ) Heheh, yeah I saw him update that on his site under the 'Executor-size' history section.

Just keep in mind the Tech Commentaries is a fansite. A fansite run by a man who's been a freelance Lucas Books author, but still a fansite. Though I agree with his assessment of the ROTS-object, I would also like it to be the DS prototype, known from EU. Hell, the thing in the film look like they based it on drawings of the prototype (from various comics).

ROTJ show the Home One as much bigger than the other two cruiser-types, and I believe there's some official info to back that up. Even so, the fact that they were converted star liners does not automatically mean the Home One type had to be equal in size to the other types. -

AT-AP replied to Vader89's topic in EAW General Discussion
Well, since the Home One type ships were the biggest in the Rebel fleet for several years, I don't see why they can't be bigger than ISDs, after all, the Empire gets the Death Star, which dwarfs everything anyway. And there were more than one Home One type ship, at least three were counted in ROTJ (one being destroyed by the DS II). The rest were smaller, non-cylindrical cruisers, some with "wings" (for increased hangar-space?) and some without (but who in turn had one extra engine, for increased speed). -
Which can't be answered due to the NDA. (Non-Disclosure Agreement). From what I can tell, this game will go on as long as the DS isn't destroyed. That means all the battles of the OT would be there, just with the possibility of using the DS I instead of the DS II.

A realistic army thrives on diverse units, not wall-to-wall AT-AT wank. Besides, we all know they can't take much punishment from below. If you get tanks through to it, the AT-STs will not hold. They're scouts/LAVs for a reason. There needs to be a middle ground, and possibly something to intimidate when you can't get AT-ATs there. The other land-units I've seen so far, look more light to me (if going by their design-relatives). And the AT-AP is more of an assault gun than a tank, so the AT-TE would fit right in. (Unless they go with more established stuff like Firehawkes or Imperial-class repulsortanks.) -

AT-AP replied to Teradyn_pff's topic in EAW General Discussion
So was I, calm down. There's no reason to skip on something like the AT-TE, as I've seen little in the way of medium tanks for the Empire. Just a couple of blocky hovertanks. -

An earlier unit. AT-TE <---- nuff said. -
Since most game-technical questions have already been answered, I'd like to get some trivia-answers out of them, like "Will there be AT-TE or UT-ATs or Juggernauts in the game". Something short and specific like that. (And maybe the people wondering about B-Wings/The Executor will get their answer. )

The SPMA-T has been identified as such in screenshots, so it does exist. (And I made sure to add it on SW Wiki ). Could be that the SPHA-T has to be researched first in order to make an upgrade from the SPMA-T. The screenshot of the SPHA-T doesn't show up, I'm afraid. =/ EDIT: The acronyms for the Pod Walker and Swamp unit is AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) and ISP (Infantry Support Platform) respectively. You wouldn't mind putting them up, would ya? Since the AT-AT and AT-ST is already listed as such.

Thank you! I heard someone mention the AT-TE being present in the game, but that was a long time ago and they might have changed it. Too bad, because it's one of my favorite SW-vehicles. =/

There's several big ship-classes profiled on the SW Wiki: http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Category:Imperial_starships And some classification-references in the Behind the Scenes-section here: http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Imperial_Starfleet
