Good grief! Is it out on DVD* already, or are you actually in a cinema with a laptop? *Might be Chinese and slightly dodgy...

This dudes is the point I was trying to make...* I must get my hands on the X-Wing TIE Fighter games; though I must confess to having become very bored with inspecting cargo containers in X-Wing Alliance... *without RL politcal reverberations

Without quotes might come some sense...

He can, he just needed someone other than GL to develope a script. Poor guy. Mark Hamaled? Rubbish! Best bit of the movie. The entire point of his seduction to the dark side has now been laid open to his inner-question... it can only be an 'AGHAAA' response from his point of view if you think about it.... I think we have three movies which now explain something most of us didn't initially expect, that it was all about Vader/Anakin; in the eighties I could have sworn it was all about young Luke... but never mind....

IMPORTANT ALL READ! For this thread to make any sense the following factors must be observed. Don't bother to contribute if you quote ANYTHING from the childish thinking that seems to have grown up with the expanded Universe. No, simply don't bother. Do not quote from the 'official' Star Wars site, which is clearly about as close to Gearge Lucas's vision of his universe as Supershadow, or a Justice League of Rogue Squadron book or comic you've read, where our heros wipe out wings of TIES in time to reflect why on earth there was a galactic civil war in the first place given the ease at which they have removed another Imperial threat, or whatever, but don't bother. Virtually all of the expanded universe has now been laid to rest in the garbage bin (THANK GOD) with the addition of the latest movie, and good riddence. Besides the Thrawn books, it has been a cringe-worthy experiance all in all, and I am glad the final movie has put the final nail in the coffin for those who are eager to quote some piece of crap from whatever source as if some authority relating to George Lucas's vision, without realizing the quoted author has about much story-telling skill as a grazing bantha, and as much overall perception of the what they have seen in the movies as someone who thinks Yoda is a vulcan. So if you're trembling with authoritarian-rage at my blatent and outright hatred of the EU, go away now. Very simple. This is only a thread, start another if this 'challenge' to the rubbish you've endured erks you, remembering of course this is Star Wars and not real life; so not enough to get bitter about.... Elsewhere, we have more or less concluded that the Empire's shocktroopers, Stormtroopers, are clones, the previous two movies have now shown us that. Fighter pilots are clones as well if you look at RotS; so I think we can assume our Davin Felth and Soontir Fel characters can now vannish in a puff of logic. Each would after all be crap in measure to a Spartan-engineered combat developed clone. Clones are the order of the day for the vast bulk of the Empire; no more EU myths of TIE pilots moving up to fleet after a hard tour of duty etc, TIE pilots are as cloned as Boba Fett, and are lethal in what they have been bred to do. 'Order 66' demonstrates the ultimate effect of their breeding as well, remember the Stormtrooper, (is he called Cody?) telling Obi-Wun; 'have I ever let you down,' in RotS, to subsequently turn without hesitation on the Jedi who led them! Why change all this obediance and allegiance by the time of a New Hope. There was a reason why you never saw a Stormtrooper's face in the original three films, or a TIE-Pilot's for that matter, which George Lucas has confimred with the the sequals. Cleared up, move on. RIGHTINESS: TIE FIGHTERS. Ignore all the crap we've been fed about non-hyperspace, non-shielded, mass-produced cheap pieces of junk, that the EU has grown up over the years; for it has no logic, even for pilots who are clones, and putting aside the hard physics that such fighter dueling can't actually happen in the vaccum of space anyway; so to the fantasy: The rebel fighters that attack the Death Star are described as 'antiques' in ANH by the Imperial leaders on the DS, and clearly dismissed as a threat for the million-strong personel of the Death Star. This is their downfall in the underestimation and part of the whole point of the book. Most of the rebels die but Luke saves the day with the power of Force; plus our Corellian, despite GL's actual book stating that that the TIEs present had superior lasers and targeting systems. So figure. I'll give the power of the Force the benefit of the stupity this time round, but not with the EU stuff. Wedge is long overdue his death. His squadron would last half a second in their subsequent adventures without the force giving a helping hand. None of this mass-produced cost effective means of controlling a Galactic Empire. Obi-Wun described the initial TIE they encountered at Alderaan as a 'short range fighter.' It's as simple as that. The Empire would of had 'long-range' fighters with the same hyperspace and shielding capabilty, to match these 'antiques' all over the place; not just the odd 'elite' fighter squadron here and there, but TIE fighters to enforce the Empire's reign, and capable of doing what rebel fighters are capable of doing: hit and fade missions. The EU has created the myth of a basic Imperial fighter without hyperdrives or shield ready to defend the Empire. Put that in the trash as well. That's like the American Navy going for mass-produced Spitfires, knowing the Taliban are building F16s... ...just thoughts I guess, but more logical than the stuff on my bookcase,

Indeed, muchos cool if it incorporated stuff from the official guide to the game I have never had the chance to put more paws upon...

Well, it seems like more than a year, but that's a philosophical perception for another thread perhaps.... A pleasure it has been getting to know you Krytos dude! http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0QAAAADATeGpCPalBj5wbgOp3lm5ivOJcDgZaYAcdKVCi8BbGIGxZFRpuu9rpNi0Lv9fY3Ha!9QwJmn4emk3AS1M5jiQUVSjfAAAAAAAAAAA/beer.gif ..you know now what must be done...i'm 2/6 into a six pack...

The setting is the Thrawn era. I made internal requests for aditional artworkers given that is more or less what is holding it back (bar a movie or two) from release, to finnish whats left of the GUI. There are a few wav files left to be done. I must point out though, that my personal life has taken a turn for the worse, so I am not the best point of contact for the project until I can get over the shit that has hit my life at the moment. Life can be harsh.

Become a major fan then dude! You're at the age when I had read the LotR and the Hobbit to exhaustion, and needed to move on to his grander vision. Fortunately for me it was when his son, Christopher, was releasing the histories giving a glimpse of his vision, which was and is nothing short of incredible. He didn't just write perhaps the best book ever written, but created at least four detailed languages in the process.... Quenya, Sindarin, Khuzdul, and Adunaic. (GL gave us a few grunts of Sandpeople and the odd squeek of Jawa) His ultimate vision is of Eru's creation (Eru being God) being marred by a renegade servant; the Vala Melkor, and everything that transpires; downto the corruption of the Noldor and the subsequent creation of the Rings of Power, of which are little Hobbits set out to save the day. I read the LotR first and loved it. I read the Silmarillian and then re-read the LotR, and subsequently appreciated it a hundred times more, seeing how it was the result of events back to the song of creation. Brilliant.

Yay! Between you and Lord_La_Forge I have been learning much with the mysteries of Photoshop! In this case with such attention and detail. Thank you Fishiness for taking the time to explain stuff! It is appreciatiated.

I, sadly, must confess to have a book shelf with virtually everything Tolkein wrote; all the histories included. The Silmarillian; as the tale of the War of the Jewels, is a work of absolute genius (read it Evaders you must! ) and explains much that is set in action in the Lord of the Rings; the origins of the rings of power not least; and how Sauron tricked the Noldor into their wonderous creation, and why Gandalf is in Middle Earth in the first place.

This is more or less what i'm on about!

Well, i've just seen it and am still in a state of Star Wars New Movie shock, though I must confess to having enjoyed it; and much more than the last two episodes. I thought the first half of the film was a little messy and confused about up to the point where Palpatine reveals himself to Anakin, then in takes off. Without wishing to spoil anything for thoughs yet to see the film, several bits at the end made it for me, especially as someone who has been more or less obsessed with this entire Star Wars thing since 1977. Darth Vader (obviously), but crying in frustration, suit and all, when Palpatine tells him something*, and the Star Destroyers hovering infront of something* with Palpatine, Vader, and an almost younger Tarkin; but especially with the Star Destroyer crew, crew-pit and all. Me liked it. *Being vague

Getting back to my original point, who assumed in the seventies, eighties, or nineties that the Star Wars saga was ultimately the story of Darth Vader? Sure in the prequals we had to see how Anakin is suduced to the Dark Side by the devil; but for GL to announce no more movies (to complete the myth of the nine), because it was all about Darth Vader is in clear contradiction to what we got out of the original movies. Hence me saying he's been making it up as we go along with these three prequals. On a broader note; but if all six films are now ultimately about Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker seduced to evil then redeemed by his kids, how boring and unromantic is that! Pol Pot, Stalin, and Adolf Hitler were each corrupted to evil in one aspect or another somewhere along the line, but redemption is not on anyone's wish list for them, to much evil had been done. Vader's casual contempt of his own Imperial Officers or crews (Star Destroyer in asteroid belt) equals someone who is beyond any redemption.

Well it certainly sounds interesting; the more so given ex-Westwood people are involved; the C&C series have to be my all time favorite non-SW games; ability to mod not least! Speaking of mods, will it need an editor like RebED to really stoke the flames of imagination like Rebellion? Without the ability to mod stuff like characters, ships, etc, it will never be our long-awaited Rebellion 2, because your stuck with all the same stuff, and will fade in time unlike how Rebellion has not.

Ok. Just to clarify before I pass out, but I didn't get any sense with the original three movies that it was all about Vader... actually far from it; it started about a young lad in Costa Rica going nowhere because of his uncle's water moisture-thingy-farmy-thingy-business, caught up in galactic events because by chance Princess Leia's Corvette JUST BY CHANCE was taken out over his wasteland of a home.... in the subsequent two movies our young hispanic lad gets severe climate shock with a polar-bear, goes off to learn under yet another strange university tutor with huge ears, meets his dad, and subsequently rescues the galaxy from some guy with severe skin disorder. ...but not much to account for the whole vision being about Anakin Skywalker...

In a recent interview I read George Lucas stated there will be no more movies because they were essentially the story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. So, after six movies how do you react to this statement? Part of me thinks it has become clear GL has made a lot of his vision up as he has gone along, and the above statement might not have been in his mind circa 1974... or whenever it was. Personnally, I think this 'evolution' is a little strange, and am not just wondering where the myth of nine episodes came from in the first place, but how much of this mythos he has quite frankly made up on the spot. ....

Well, I have now touched upon virtually everything in life now. I am known as the 'Star Wars nutcase' at my local pub, which I frequent much less often these days due to economic considerations... but I just zapped in there for a swift couple of pints and the regular I had expected to express the least interest in the movie, Charger, the local Hells Angel, wants me to go to the movie with him, his misses, and his kids, so I can explain the 'trilogy' stuff to him during the movie... for crying out loud! lol ...I reckon the beer spurned the conversation... he may in fact have no genuine interest whatso ever....

In a week or so, and during the week, in the day, when the cinema is empty, with no kids and no working-class teenagers.

I will say but this: My MESH PC was purchaced in 1999, was a powerhouse of a beast then, has aged and is kinda crap now, but still works... In all the time I have owned it I have only ever had one critical crash (brought about due to heat and a Rebellion battle involving over two hundred fighters on one side). So MESH built a pretty reliable PC. I have also used it virtually every day, bar a swift 'escape' from London to Scotland a while ago...
