Well, forgive me for being 33 and slightly unconcerned with any Star Wars puriety stuff; personally I think that most of the expanded star wars universe as we know it is absolute trash, so i'll 'disrespect it' as much as I want. I was in a cinema in 1977 and was spellbound. The magic has lasted ever since. The vision of the EU has not. I feel it is my duty to 'spoil' your SW universe even more: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RgDtAsEVHxbxcy2UlGZ7deJdaAHamF5u!Fxq5*tBx*srDZSyScXFQ6nuiCoET9XC2onTLKHE9zq1IbEF4sossBR3TAICx3AavJQKyhMUV5c/darthelvis.gif The King is in fact the Emporer. It's cannon I swear* *OK, I might be slightly wrong here.

I meant here as in HERE!! Let's just go with the flow dude. Why Palpatine was corrupted in the first place: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TwBWHQMZJxPYPWZt6ce6cBAExXYsBzMa9JolYvV1NJgg7BUmEUFVSRqeW6*fB0rw6Z2vaO7RSVShlr3Zv93QfPHd1cM510VpuLiAk34!*o3Kw1rqaRHqhg/private_palpatine0.gif

I love Rebellion: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0ZwAaA!ofLbxqb*40*iiYV1wieOayI!hzfKt3du*x2p6y7Gj2D6aWc0wXgIvKy6CZHvfd*wQ8gh1kP*x0qGYk1*!SECtH86ZMK3Dp4oG744XIi2eQXRr1qjazi!9xrhMgj7g*niSNPXxdP0DHIBTevw/iviewcapture_date_19_02_2005_time_18_30_53.jpg ...moded of course...

Probably posted in the wrong place, but never mind! I give you an early piece of Rebel Alliance propogander, briefly seen on the walls of buildings before the Empire rushed around tearing them all down: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TgADAygZ9g8sBBq0b8dX3FL0VNjFKmzrLcqTbRUBY5YrSe1OqIsA21HpfdA83XjcVHEhhUUd2NWTgKk5o8rvEoXe*ZxnUimd*G!nZzL3jjsOGRWukuaE!g/retroalliancestuff.jpg Apparently, recruitment shot up...

This is perhaps the FUNDERMENTAL point of why it is essential to have the option of naming ships; attachment to the gameworld (the SW mythos) and all the time immersed in it whilst playing the game. Not having the option of having fleets of Star Destroyers Chimaera, Devestator, Medusa, Eviscerator, Stormbringer, etc, quickly will make that attachment meaningless, and less fun.

Cool post dude! Not much I can pick you up other than the main problem with Rebellion was the AI programing; or lack of it. For an experianced player it becomes predictable... though I believe Cain might have something to say about this with his rather woo Protectarite mod for the game: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RgAFA3IV7gPt5gMpUaCjbgIjVt3PA3dCtY*Ei*aSd5tXpaxmIsByRldeGwxERjcIwpovHqcspzxXuhDK4Gbj84hCZWhpREqsQ3AIumgRCAc/wooyayr2d2.gif ..I still play the game... i'm hoping EaW results in it's evolution...

Just a point for thought. In the first world war the British and the Germans more or less had this problem of superfleets. They briefly skirmished their fleets of Dreadnaughts and both more or less retired, both claiming victory; the Germans because they sank more than the British, the British because the Germans never ventured out of harbour for the remainder of the war. Both sides realized the destruction of their fleet and the victory of the other would swing the war. But the war went on... In Rebellion, fleets are more or less a threat to panic about for most of the gameplay, it's not such a bad thing, because it means you have to concentrate on intelligence with characters and special forces, deploying the fleet when the time is right. Any other use of fleets is the realm of comics and cartoons without much realism. Building capital ships is a massive investment in any tactical environment, by very definition, loosing them en masse should be a devestating blow, one to be feared. Gameplay where it is not will quickly become comical. I think what I am more or less mumbling on about is strategy, and the importance in a good game title.

Right, i've neither had the luxory of seeing any glimpses of the game, so can only offer a rather blind piece of five cents! Firstly, got to agree broadly with Cobra on one little aspact of gameplay. Games like Homeworld look good, but sure as hell are a hassle to play; rather like Force Commander. Where as the Command & Conqueror titles didn't look as 'real' but offered wonderful and fun gameplay, whilst still looking reasonably cool. I don't want a game that's going to take me two weeks to get to grips with; I don't devote that much time to playing games, I want a Star Wars title that will let me loose myself in some Star Wars mythos without requiring a diploma to play. Space Battles: Please include the option of being able to switch gravity wells OFF during combat! SW Characters: Lots of them! All our favourites! Game Galaxy: LARGE! Anything under fifty systems at the very least is about as epic as a kid's jigsaw. ..oops! Overran my five cents....

lol Indeed! The site of a MIG in your driveway is enough to lower the insurance on your house...

This is a seriously complex issue I still haven't entirely got my head around. What is altogether remarkable is that the French left and French right both campaigned for the no vote. It was more or less the centre that has 'seen the light' with British and Eastern European economic proposals. The Dutch vote will be perhaps more revealing tomorrow given it may well reflect the backlash in part at allowing people into extremist religious politics refuge in our liberal union, the more so the high profile murder of late of a film maker who dared work on a religious subject of a woman abused within her religious background. The climate in the United Kingdom is still to flooded with the 'evils of the EU,' by our reactionary press for a yes vote sadly. So I hope we align ourselves more closely with the East of Europe, than the French, who as per normal assume they have the centre stage when it comes to Europe.

That's pretty damn woo Mad! I'm presuming it all ends with Morgan Freeman speaking to the world outside the ruins of the Whitehouse...

From my experiance, the stand off is best used for capital ships you want to keep out of the reach of opposing weaponry, and exploits longer weapon ranges on specific ships' ie a ISD having more range than a corvette type of thing. Surround simply gets ships and fighters 'in the midst of the fray.' You do more damage but are right in it. So dangerous for Capital ships if your uncertain about the outcome of a battle. If you retreat, you can be fairly certain some ships will be left behind, whether by Ion fire or damage. Look at how much faster fighters damage capital ships in a tactical battle if you set them to surround.... The anvil, hook, etc are simply manuevers you can pull off in a tactical battle, the worth of which are a little tricky to explain. I guess you just have to practise , play around a bit, and figure out for your self; bearing in mind it is a 3D tactical battle, and the clever commander exploits his terrain.

...except if you finnished the game with Kyle sitting on the Imperial throne corrupted by the Dark Side. ...You get Sarris as your 'female assistant.'

It's exactly this line of argument which I have just woken upto.... it would also explain why the New Republic would have been so fragile in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor; assuming the mainstay of their fighters were little changed from the rebellion days...allowing for the countless books and stories about the New Republic's fledging efforts at survival. Cool, I can live with that, sort of; but am reluctant to take huge chunks of what has transpired in the EU seriously, and wonder where you draw the line. Whenever I have suggested trying to debate this or that without using anything in the EU as referance it is to try and get some sound arguments, this way or that, without constant referances to the EU, which generally brake debate down into contradiction and meaningless, and generally leaving everyone more confused than before it started.... I have never said the EU isn't/or is correct dude, just that lots of it is daft.

Top of my head it costs about £200 to keep a small helicopter in the air an hour.... a shudder to think what it would cost to puta MIG in the air.... ..and maintain it... ...and arm it...

The edata file is pictures. Simply save them somewhere on your PC and change their extensions to .bmp. Open them up in the paint thingy you get with windows and save them as jpgs. Don't ask me for which ones are which mind you other than top of my head the last lot are the planet pictures...

Some pretty good posts there guys! Stella Magic/DarthRenar: your referances to WWII both hit the nail squarely as reasonable comparisons. One factor in the allied victory over the Japanese was their recycling of pilots; ie new recruits could be trained by veterans of active combat with all the experiance that entailed as opposed to the Japanese approach which kept their pilots at the front and thus gradually squandered their talent. I think it is more or less obvious the Empire and the Alliance did approach with two differing philosophies as demonstrated in their fighters. In this vein I think my view here has been influenced to much by reading to many daft Rogue Squadron comics which I think Mr Fishface addressed a very good point, that I should have paused to heed... ...i'll force myself to read a EU book or two now. Evaders posted a good list.

Just a bit crap. I noticed this with Rebellion. (and what a long overdue joy!) Not a question of what to believe, but what would make the slightest bit of sense in a galaxy where the Empire has more or less subjugated a huge chunk of the inner rim. Quite frankly much of what I have experianced with the EU is daft, stupid, and wouldn't make any tactical logic; no shields TIE philosophy, pilots doubling their efforts philosophy, no hyperdrives against an opposing enemy who has philosophy; it doesn't make any sense! This is not how you would approach controlling an empire! In a galaxy of billions of systems your military approach wouldn't be to mass produce something you know full well your enemy has more superior craft to overcome, numbers or no numbers. My point had been to explore the possibility that the EU myth that has grown up around the notion of an Empire based around a tactical philosophy of non-hyperdrive/shielded fighters against an opponent (even pirates and non-rebel fighter threats) is absurd. And it is a myth that has grown outside of the films. Just like the Empire's xenophobia; there's nothing to suggest that with any serious depth in the films other than an Imperial ofrficer describing Chewie as a 'thing' (Leia describes him as a walking carpet at one point, so who's more racist?). All I am trying to suggest is to sieze back some logic from an expanded universe that clearly went slightly stupid...
