Cool. But this route didn't work for last time M; and I followed the path with absolute confidence. Your holographic btw is fine, as is mine, sort of, what i'm trying to get to is some form of duplication of the method the author of the woo-yay R2D2 gif I posted above, given the effect combines R2-D2's subtle moving-display effect. EDIT: Just been alerted to this site: http://www.mickm.com/index.php?section=tutorials&id=117

I've never liked the British working class institution of Bingo myself. Always seemed like a distraction for enjoying a few pints with mates.

What does MTFBWU mean? Use the editor to make it harder for yourself in single player. If you've been playing it for a couple of years you should know what to edit. Easy example: If you're playing as rebels, why not lower the maintenance of all Imperial Ships by about 30% to reflect that 'galactic-control.' Why not start the game giving Coruscant eight Advanced shipyards, three advanced constructions, modern defenses, and fifty TIE Defenders to boot. Use the Death Star mod. Make Luke weaker. Etc...

...all...most...there.... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Jahled/holographic_test_02.gif ...i'm struggling to find these text options you two are on about in Photoshop btw.

That my friend is perhaps the funniest link I have seen. I've already posted it on depraved forums elsewhere to considerable delight. La_Forge, I salutte you. A woo is in order: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RADdAusU0Ny*PP0jG0tEA0p9axQ!uSBa1R7TJ8n8TbBSGXuCsL9F7lqh!3jf0bJwpu6TpSk9r4t8eiKLh71NmjCHmCnYx8aa6D!mbZYnBB8/alienwoo.gif Masterful find, masterful post. I shall be contributing to Chewie's blog with immediate effect.

Tar! I'll get to work on that a little later. Your saber has a very retro feel, strangely reminding me of Royal Naboo gameplay in Galactic Empires... but that may just be me. Anyway, now that Colonel_Olorin has pointed me in the right direction, I HAVE AT LAST almost figured out the method the author of the above woo-yay gif used for his holographic lettering effect!!! Whilst I guess i'll be trying to perfect the technique all day tomorrow, I opened up Photoshop after my supper and cracked open a tin of beer; my very first attempt employing Colonel_Olorin's stroke effect which is in the edit menu: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RAAFAzoUbrddKljOmst8iwU0Rg5Bhk3164OuVgzhoV5eAcHxLwYnRK0cGjWPVSp0viZyQ6V!nsZ9xpEPUTmABjwF27cxgH9YAKaFgR7g!ic/test_01.gif For a first attempt with the stroke tool, I don't think it was bad atall. I only used three layers as well, the background, the font at 80% transparency, and a duplicate layer with the stroke effect. I guess to achieve the subtle movement of the woo-yay gif he played around with noise, outer glow, and as you said M, gaussian blur effects. We learn lots talking with one another.

One thing I never got to grips with in Force Commander were the game controls. As memory serves me, they seemed very clumsy. Whilst some of you may not have experianced this, is gameplay in EaW less, how can I put it, controls-intensive?

Yay for feed-back and helping each other out! I should be able to figure this out in Photoshop now, hugely appreciated and nice pic! Evaders: http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Jahled/R2D2_swr.gif heavy 115kb http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TQASA2sXj5mj1JAskKbjjL3ccKWP2iV*J!ZgHNOv9NaJtTDoibEFA9nUTnJsMbPEkX2UCZAKZBV4OORmpxRa8HOL44B448lGDG!vN4MC7fEx!fSrLj3ikw/R2D2_swr_30lossy.gif lighter 74kb but with quality reduction... M: I still want to 'activate' that saber you made; can you provide a pic on a blank or dark background?

Me too. There was once, in the days of C&CII, talk of Star Wars mod that never happened. It would have been cool. But C&C and Rebellion are completly different games in gameplay. Hence my luke-warm perception of other's excitment, and constant insistance, that EaW is some kind of Rebellion 2. From all i've seen, read, and understood, it is simply a differant game, devoid of the elements that make Rebellion gameplay unique in it's own experience.

We're a cynical bunch us British! I once stayed at a Buddhist monestry for a couple of weeks. One of the senior monks once told me that thinking, (after many deeply theological questions on my behalf) like boiling an egg, must at some point come to an end. Without human thought, there is no 'god' is there... Just my two pence on the subject, but I sure as hell don't want kids tought any religious stuff of any creed. They can do that in their own time, outside of the tax-payer's expense. I would rather teach kids physics that ultimately gets us closer to mining the moon like the Russian Duma has just agreed to fund for Helium3 or whatever it's called, a shuttle's worth of which could power North America for a year, and a ton for Russia. It's clean as well; no waste desposal problems. The universe is about 13 billion years old. If you don't understand the scientific methods that have unearthed this, be at peace, and leave it at that. 'I know not,' is about the most worthy and enlightened phrases in Buddhism. Physics; evolution, fact, gets things like our mobile phones to work because there are shiny-things called satalites flying in orbit, because of proven data that translates into invention. I'm not knocking any particular faith; if it makes you feel more at peace with the experiance of being alive then cool. If you try to impose any aspact of it on my, or any child's adolecent minds, then I will fight you.

Emm... nice stuff M78, but the wrong way round to the lettering in the mentioned gif which achieves the holographic effect. I assumed you did with blending options and inner glow. The beauty of the lettering in the gif I posted is that the main body of the lettering can be virtually transparant whilst the edges are glowing enough to keep the letters apparent. This is what I can't figure out... but hell, with multiple minds engaged on the subject I reckon we'll get there soon. [/img]

Ah! But there you go! Which came first, Chuck Norris' twelve yard death-stare, or the shiver that reverberated amongst the cosmos? Time is an oroborus, constant to nothing. Pervading over all is Chuck Norris, his beard, and the twelve yard death stare. This is why large stars deside to drop out of the universe and become black holes. After billions of years of existance, they finally realize they can't handle the stare. Perhaps in the beginning, all there was was the stare. Who knows, perhaps in the end, when the cosmos has died it's pathetic heat death, all that will be left is the death-stare, scaring entropy into non-existance; thus providing the spark for a reality that is even more strange than this one. All hail and dread Chuck.

That doesn't get the hard blue glow on the edges in the above gif, sadly. In the meantime, I made* a small button to which any text can be added: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RQC1Ao0TM6D9wVxQgoWejp*Gb3uEJkiQMh8FnlNBYHmUhtjDQzQ0rk8j1KPvKWMIixQU3*eq4KOCUxUDU7IOv*ztprizOMjiUODNnhvKJLw/R2D2.gif 120kb Yes, the file size is a little rough, but that's without any lossy; I reckon I can half it with a about 20%. Evaders: Let me know what text I could insert to with any element of the SWrebellion network; assuming that is you think you could use it! Obviously can be resized. *When I say made I "borrowed" the source image from the gif above... inserting the rebel and imp logos.

...When in doubt start speaking to one's self... A long time ago I posted this: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RgATA3EVawTt5gMpUaCjbgIjVt3PA3dCtY*Ei*aSd5tXpaxmIsByRn!*efd!hXarEmf89T0wC9F!1W6S7U6Ig2HM0H8T5wXUnsHbsYLkiHs/wooyayr2d2.gif and asked if anyone knows the technique in Photoshop how the author achieved the holographic lettering effect. I never really got an answer, but am determined to crack it, given i've come quite close. Any ideas, or knowledge of websites that might have a good tutorial?

I'm a bit stumped for ideas personally, unless you want me to simply use a Warlords logo in with a sabre, or something. Ideas anyone?

Sometimes when i'm not looking my ego turns into a butterfly and flutters off. Once it came back in a bandage because it bumped into a rainbow. Another time it came back with a tan because it went to Brazil. A button thingy: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RwDqAiEVyAv!US9YYNBJygBEu2tzLnXCU7HhqC39JAMpX8VrOXv7XyzxTYp*FAin9vymRsFUHkG9cXfCVmiazRVTAUh*WU!qsZrOP2nNZc0/thingy.gif

Dude! I'm cool with it, this isn't an ego-thing!

Woo Karpman! Your purple sabre has the movement I couldn't get right! Me like it lots.

Whilst I must confess to not really having an opinion on this subject, if any of you have access to British television, there is an hour long documentary on this subject tonight at 21:00 hours GMT on BBC2, with contribution from Sir David Attenborough no less. It's called 'Horizon'.

I made a gif whilst trying to figure out the mysteries of holographic lettering: http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0TAAFAzoXcqVQYVL3l7aVnopY74p!Z0Nf0iO1joQkfAsqSDpz6MOvKE6xPdZ6H7kcwv4hNLeIBf9pzoF04KQzy9rt0A71*uVKg1DETEnvpkJINFaBH80yOQ/revelations.gif I then gave up.
