How realistic are the last 15 minutes of Return of the Jedi
Jahled replied to igorimp's topic in General Discussion
We could chat about this forever. The bottom line is that a fleet of mile long 'floating cities,' (to quote the SW books), one mega city, plus one almost complete Death Star; all financed by Nazi-style forced labour, war-level taxes (the Empire was the ruling government at the time, support or no-support), with superior fighters (another book quote), defeated by a rebel fleet without access to official financing... highly dubious; in fact completely impossible given that the most able crew men would have been on the Imperial ships. Factor this on the scale of Star Destroyers with crews of 38,000 each and the absurd simply brakes down into the idiotic. A tactical half wit would not get anywhere near the helm of a vessel described as a 'floating city,' that has the fire power to reduce an entire planet to rubble, and to quote a breakfast cerial packet from the seventies; consumes more energy making a jump into hyperspace than entire planetary continants use in decades. On paper, the Imperials had superiour capital ships, fighters, and ground troops (an entire legion of the Emperor's finest taken out by a rebel team who fitted into a shuttle? Oops, and some stone age natives the Imperials completely overlooked...) Complete crap. So we must turn our attention to what I mentioned previously! In the book it says the forces of the Empire were plunged into confusion upon the death of the Emperor! It also says the rebels did things like pack ships with exposives, target Imperial ships, and abandon ships 'to fates at best unknown,' or something along those lines. The finest ships the rebels had were the Mon Calamari Cruisers, which as we know were converted civilian ships. You simply cannot convert a luxury cruise ship into an elite combat ship capable of comming anywhere near something in the region of a mile-long Star Destroyer! It would be simply obliterated! And there's no mention in the SW saga of Mon Calamari tech superiority. The rebel fleet presant at Endor, in comparison to the Imperial fleet, would have been an extremely pale shadow as far as combat capability. The rebels had neither the economics to come anywhere close to matching the Empire, the experiance in command, or the firepower to match the Imperial fleet. It's simply absurd to suggest otherwise. To suggest rebel fighters were better than their Imperial counterparts, or their pilots in some way better trained, is also complete and utter gibberish. Why would you run an Empire with b-rate fighters, when the insurgants(without lawful, official, or above board funding) have something better. The pilots would be better trained as a matter of course, in anycase; having universal access to superiour training facilities through budget! So George Lucas's text of the 'Forces of the Empire being plunged into confusion,' must be taken 100% into consideration! That and the fact we're all adults who keep forgetting the opening lines of Star Wars should really sum it all up for the magical fairy tale the saga really is; that it's not meant to be real...to be terribly scientific; but you can't actually have fighter dog-fights in space, at the very least! It's a fairy tale; good triamphs over evil, and realism never needed to come that much into the Endor equation. BTW: What happens when you blow up 'a small moon,' over Endor? There was I just watching Independance Day... I'm not entirely sure Wedge would be trying to give it the 'two-step,' not to mention Luke having the time to look into the flames of Vader. -

Oh indeed! I've often hoped to see that 'cut-footage' of Luke asking a passing Imperial 'to give him a hand,' because 'Vader is so bloody heavy, oh and you might as well hop in because this DS is about to blow!' Passing Imperial: 'So you just killed the Emperor?' Luke: {Puffing heavily} 'Well, it was my dad, really!' Passing Imperial: 'Say why is Lord Vader glowing blue?' etc... -
Wasn't William of Orange Dutch? He won some famous battle in the north of Ireland years and years ago, that time has revealed; no one actually won.

What other stuff you been working on Gambit?

In the book of ROTJ it says the 'Forces of the Empire were plunged into confusion upon the death of the Emperor,' because of the mental control/force he exerted over his forces. (Think C'Both in the Thrawn books) so I reckon it matters little what obvious overwelming firepower the Empire had at Endor, because according to GL as soon as the Emperor died the navy present at Endor were rendered useless; so great was his mental hold over his forces. ...Jahled casually tosses his calculator over his sholder... -
Looks very interesting Gambit! Keep posting!

Ok, I did do a little research today SOCL, and asked a Kiwi mate of mine what he did. He said his grand parents were British so bypassed the normal procedures. Anyway, he did say all the forms he needed to fill out were available on line; which sort of led here when I got home and played around with gooooooooooogle.

I think it's a brilliant idea, especially concerning the issues addressed by SOCL. We have just over 2000 members, but only a small few who get their paws gritty posting, discussing things, or just plain being wacky. The newsletter could be a very easy way to get alot more people actively involved in the site, or by simply renewing interest in comming back here and getting involved again. At it's most basic, it could be a simple summary of what's new, as SOCL said, cards, downloads, models, etc; suddenly hitting the inboxes of the 2000 members of swrebellion. I'm sure Evaders would be aware of the increase in hits to the site as folks make their return... which surely would enable Evaders and Igor to sell advertising space...and make some money! If anyone could be bothered, and i'm sure there certainly are people amongst us who could, from this basic newsletter, it could include what's going on in the forums; the currant hot topics, the RPGs, etc; and even general Star Wars stuff. I think it's a very good idea. I look forward to reading issue one very shortly, and seeing the return of lots of old faces.

Cool Paul, but the official Star Wars site was my original first port of call and while there is an excellent image of a Dark Trooper (that I haven't seen before) you would have to a photoshop genius to do anything with the image; just down to the way it has been drawn. This does beg a question, if Star Wars.com is commisioning artists for images in it's databank, does anyone know who is doing them, and if there is place higher resolution versions are stored. BoShek my man, i'm that one vote for Dark Forces in that fav SW game poll somewhere else...

Please do send that Trej!

....I AM THE MASTER OF ALL MATTER! Zoot meowed loudly...and continued to address his troops, stopping occassionally to lick his balls...

No, I didn't know that. Why was that then Scathe?

You crazy fool! Given work is pretty quiet at the moment i've got time to research such serious matters as the Grand Visor of the BEAK hopping over to the UK! Have you ever been here as a tourist? It's usually a smart move before you apply for full citizanship. My mum's last lodger, and a good mate of mine was a girl just about my age called Wendy from Washington DC; she loves the UK, and does crazy things like phone me up saying she's in the uk at 'Browns,' for a week (an extremely expensive hotel in Mayfair), but her old man does work for your central intelligence agency!!! Anyhows, England needs teachers something chronic... and this isn't a politacal statement of the sign of the times; it's government policy to recruit something manic....our kids are to deranged to teach!!! If you need a look around London, I guess you're speaking to the right person, my friend; space can be found on an uncomfortable couch somewhere...hell, we could even go and bully Elvis the other side of London, and even Scathe a few miles away....in Holand.

..err...well I can't resist this crap repost, because I think the Imperial Cow-Trooper has a lot to justify his expense in Imperial coffers... ...err...umm...well...err.... he's got some descent camouflage compared to his clone buddies....and.... errr... he's got some training with native wildlife.... heck! Time for bed.

God damn it BoShek dude, I just ckickerty here expecting some excellent link to information and/or images. I'm seriously stumped in my own little mission to create a Dark Trooper Card; I can't find usuable images anywhere! Help!

At that very moment in undisclosed location a certain feline was meowing fiendishly, as if cackling from the very bowels of hell. He wasn't entirely certain why he was laughing in such a diabolical and demonic manor, because his presant activity wasn't that fiendish, which made him pause for a moment, before realizing the beginning of every adventure film must have a bit showing just how evil the villan is, so he carried on going round in circles, making a great deal of unnerving noice. This was all to much for Trej's lego space invader he keeps by his PC's monitor, who upon seeing this fled in abject terror. Poor old SOCL in his confussed state could only shudder as visions of sinister kittens rampaged through his head...

Have your neighbors and the guy with the motorized couch noticed this change in your life? I haven't seen the guy with the sofa he turned into a car for ages, perhaps it failed it's MOT or something... Wierd stuff I have seen on my travels recently include: -A push-bike courier with a basket on the back of his bike with one dog in and a little side pouch with another smaller dog in, -David Blaine in a glass cage suspended in the air performing some magic trick, yet having a daily and nightly assualt of eggs, lemons, and other bits of food thrown at him, -Me meeting someone on Regents Street, having an animated conversation, and subsequently laughing so much I lost my footing and fell into the road onto a car in traffic which turned out to be a Rolls Royce, driven by a chauffeur in a stupid hat, that if the car had been pink would have been something out of Thunderbirds; with a very well known English celebrity in the back looking quite surprised (Ceila Black), -My expression when my dad sent me an email from Canada inviting me over, but also telling me my uncle went to school with Tony Blair (he went to school with Prince Charles!!!) -The young Policeman's expression when he suddenly stepped into the road and came with inches of my front wheel ruining the creese on his trousers. ...errr... -My expression again when I came to a sudden hault infront of someone with about four ferrets in his hands, in the middle of Oxford Street. (I ended up having quite a nice conversation with the old guy and stroked the cute furry things. 'Do they bite?' I asked. 'Only if you put you fingers in their mouth,' he replied, 'i've got fourteen more at home.' He added. ...ummm... Not much else, life's been quite normal lately.[/i]
