  1. Although Rob has already answered your questions, I have some additional info for you. There are no "cards" for systems/planets like there are for characters and units, and there is no way to create new ones beyond what is already programmed in the game (check the Rebellion Editing thread Added 2 additional Characters - download inside. for a possible exception to the rule for characters ). For the sectors and systems/planets, the only way to "create" the galaxy you want is to replace what's already there. Some of this can be done in RebEd, but there are limitations: when using RebEd to change sector/system names, the "new" names can be no longer than the names you replace; so for example, you could change Chondre to Kuat (7 letters to 4), but you can't change Ando to Naboo (4 letters to 5). You can change all of the names to whatever you want (regardless of length) if you use ResourceHacker. RebEd (when using the Galaxy Editor) is great for "moving" sectors to where you want in the galaxy, but you can't move planets. You can move sectors and planets using a HEX editor on the SECTORSD.DAT and SYSTEMSD.DAT files, but be very careful. You can check Mechanics - inside Rebellion for file formats and stuff, but things can get a bit tricky, especially keeping your planets within the appropriate sector. Hint: use RebEd to "move" the sectors, and THEN use a HEX editor to more the planets . And saving the best for last: all of this has already been done, see the Galaxy Configuration thread (pay particular attention to the last post in the thread ). And on Rob's answer 3, he meant to say "No, there is no way to add additional planets, or to have more than 10 planets per sector". Welcome aboard, and have lots of fun
  2. Hey, that looks like one of my cats! EDIT: Break open your piggy boys & girls, you're going to need lots of $ for this big sale! If you don't have enough cash, head to a sabacc table to hopefully increase your funds. Heck, you might even win a planet, like Dathomir
  3. But of course BS! Now to complete the "missing authors" quest all we have to do is get Def back onto his New Sith Order story. Then all three of our forgotten tales can continue
  4. PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you an EXCEL file of the system & sector data (with explanations of what I know)
  5. I've heard that one a long time ago Tofu, but decorum kept me from posting it here. I should have known it would be posted somewhere on the internet, AND that you would find it.
  6. I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones in that it runs on XP fine for with absolutely no problems As for the "tiny screen" problem, the only thing I can think of is what screen resolution are you using. You have to remember this is an old game, and its "max" resulotion is inferior compared to todays. Are you running it full screen or "in a window"? Does your computer automatically detect which resolution a program wants to use and adjust accordingly? Like I said, I've had no problems so I don't know anything to fix, or really how to help others, at least from "experience". Good Luck!
  7. Who said anything about destroying them? It was "caught on tape" doing their everyday ROV work. So, actually there would be nothing new for anyone to know about had it NOT been for the "oil company" you're condenming It's not like they "snagged" it to make deep fried calamari
  8. What topics (containing my quality posts) were deleted?
  9. Good observation Rob! It was fine earlier today when I posted (becaused I did check Mad's post count, which was 8000+). Also, I made a change to my sig as well, with no apparent change either
  10. I haven't been reading much of late, especially from young upstarts like Shakespeare. I've read some of his stories, but haven't gotten to MacBeth (and probably won't). So, ... Oh, you were talking about LofF (Legacy of the Force) , my bad . Actually I haven't read anything SW after the Vong plot, and I had a hard time swallowing that load of nerf fodder. Skipped Dark Nest, and will probably never read LofF. I just don't see the point in doing so. The SW EU up to the Vong was tolerable, with notable exceptions: X-wings series & both Thrawn series; all excellent. Anything that happened prior to the Battle of Endor (but after the Clone Wars, I don't even want to go there) that had Vader in it was pretty good as far as I can recall. All of the "good" stories would be in that time period. Now, all I see is money-grubbing GL proliferating $h!t so he can fill his over-stuffed pockets with more $ , therefore I refuse to cooperate. But, otherwise based on your description Tofu ... sounds like a plausible theory. Keep up the good work
  11. I logged in using a different computer ... same results: messed up menus I guess I'll just click on them anyway so the problem goes away. UPDATE: Interestingly enough, after posting the previous message, the problem did NOT occur when I was in the FORUMS thread, but as soon as I clicked HOME and got to the main screen: messed up menus
  12. Congratulations! Everyone enjoys success; and your success means success for a New Rebellion Well, if your editor (or a small utility) has the capability of reading in the original game data, ... you'd already be done What's your file format and data structure?
  13. What format type would you like (ASCII comma delimited, Excel spreadsheet, etc)? If I recall correctly the SECTOR.DAT file located the Sector Name (and by default the sector "box" you see in RebEd) on the galaxy background. I do recall a couple of times when I would move the cursor around the galaxy map, the sector name would appear "else where" in the galaxy; this was due to the "systems" not having coordinates that matched up within the sector "box". The SYSTEM.DAT file gave absolute screen coordinates (to get the little (unknown) "plus +" icons and colored (red or green) "dots" on the galaxy map). When you "clicked" on a sector, those systems tagged to be in that sector, AND had coordinates within the sector "box" would appear on the sector screen (the tall rectangular screen). Sometime (because coordinates were "off") I would be missing systems, or only have "partial" systems show up on the sector screen; then I would just have to "tweak" the coordinates abit. The hardest thing to remember was that the sectors are "rectangular" in their coordinates, but when you see them on screen (the sector screen), it is a "tall rectangular" screen. So a system directly across hoziontally from it, maybe the same "travel time" to a system vertically above it, even though it "appears" twice as far away. I beleive this is really because of the screen resolution size they defaulted in using. Hopefully with a better screen resolution you can bypass this optical illusion, maybe even showing more (up to 4?) sector maps on the screen at the same time. Just let me know the format type, otherwise I might just send both (ASCII & Excel)! Send me a PM with your e-mail address
  14. I noticed a problem today with the "pull down menus" at the top of the screen. First the "normal" view: http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/8345/swrnormalrc5.th.jpghttp://img296.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif When my cursor "floats" over the REBELLION tab, this happens: http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/1882/swrrebellionheaderhk7.th.jpghttp://img296.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif And finally, when my cursor "floats" over the REBED tab, this happens: http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/8251/swrrebedheadernq2.th.jpghttp://img90.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif If I "slide" my cursor over RebEd, then the screen "flashes" as the pull down menu is drawn/erased very quickly. I haven't had this problem before, just thought it might be something "new" that's going down; just an FYI (if it matters I'm running XP Pro & IE 7 ) UPDATE: I just noticed that if I "click" on the pull down menu anyway, the next time I move my cursor over it, it doesn't happen anymore
  15. If you want to try something different ... more in line with a more accurate SW galaxy, go here and get back to me
  16. Welcome back SM (I've already stated my greetings in another thread ) In case you forgot, Budious had a work around posted in another thread. Krytos stated in yet another thread: I hope this helps you out. I've haven't got this far yet as I just started running XP a couple of months ago I have a hard time keeping up with all of this modern bug-filled OS chaos. I just use the patched and functional OS's that are slowly fading away
  17. Just over two years Welcome back SM! I can't wait to see what updates you have in mind. You don't know how tempted I've been over the last couple of years to hijack your thread and continue on without you. Good thing I have lots of patience (more than likely I just forgot in a moment of senilality ). What have you been doing out there in the "unknown regions"? Glad to see you back, stick around awhile this time; I know nothing is ever exactly the same, but we all get used to it eventually.
  18. It is a bit easier on my ol' eyes
  19. Reasonable? What's your definition ... like since Sept '06? Just saying
  20. Do I get that right? If we do mail our cards to you, you will upload it to the database, which isnt possible for us users since at least the great crash? I just saw a NEW card on the Home Page . Are new cards being accepted? I have a few from years gone by that I want to re-submit (lost in the Great Crash of Sept '06).
  21. Do a google search; you'll find sarin and mustard gas loaded into artillery shells. Some where even used as IED's. I don't know if the terrorists knew they were chemical shells or not (I would guess not, because they usually want a big explosion, and a "gas" IED would do better in a places more crowded with people). Also, over 500 tons of uranium was shipped out of Iraq. Nobody read about that because the authorities didn't want it known to prevent search & theft of the material for "dirty" bombs. Since before you were born. Liberal media and liberal professors at colleges have been the norm since the 60's. I remember reading something similar about Saddam, Rob. As for the "World Court", it's more problems than it's worth. Mainly because you'd forfeit your US Constitutional rights, and any Tom, Dick or Abdullah could file charges against you. Every single person in the government and most of the military would have charges filed on them by the dozens. It would just be a waste of time trying to defend everyone, every single day over "bogus" charges as disgrunted people (and probably lots of terrorists) use the system to "bog down" society. Personally, if the US had the technical know how, resources and "cajones", I'd prefer going totally isolationist, and "screw the world"; [mocking nay-sayer]: nag, nag, nag; You're the US & think you can do whatever you want. Well, get out of here we don't want you. Help us! Help us! Why doesn't the US send help! We need food, money and/or support; why doesn't the US help? [/mocking off] Make up your minds, either you want or help or not, but you don't get to change your mind when it suits you. Damn, another rant! I'm really starting to hate this thread; and anything political
  22. Welcome, and good luck with your changes. BTW, what are you changing and why? Hopefully time will settle that matter
  23. I guess my answer in the other thread didn't help?
  24. The war in Iraq was nothing like Vietnam, if anything it was the complete opposite. Vietnam was a quagmire because politicians tried to micro-manage a military campaign, instead of those trained to run a military campaign. This just showed that politicians should "butt out" of military affairs, AND not to start wars if you weren't willing to pay the consequences (the unpopular support by vocal young hippies, that went against everything of the previous generation). Anyways, politicians always want to get re-elected, so they cater to the most vocal criticisms to "show" they're doing something. The Vietcong knew militarily they couldn't beat the US, but had a strategy to fight by playing off the vocal opponents. If the press didn't cover any of the protests in the US, most other protests wouldn't have even started; then where would the Vietcong have been with no antagonist group to play off of? In Iraq, the politicians for the most part "stayed out" of the military's way. Unfortunately, the military was expecting the Iraqi army to mass surrender like in Desert Storm; but they mostly deserted taking their arms with them, and/or letting their military arms be seized. Basically there was no one left to surrender when US forces drove into Baghdad. So, now the military was left fighting terrorists instead of an army. But, US forces have made great stride and have all but eliminated Al-queda thugs and terroristic activity in Iraq. Tofu, you said we shouldn't have gone in the first place; Eagle says the war was illegal. Unfortunately, this is not a nice little cut & dry like Pearl Harbor to make decisions easy. The war started because of Saddam, so blame him if you have any problems. He used mustard gas (a WMD) against his own people & Iranians, so you KNOW he has WMD's. The Israeli's took out a nuclear power plant in the 80's, so you know he has uranium & some atomic know how. He invades Kuwait, threatens practically everybody nearby, then loses in Desert Storm. He ignores multiple UN resolutions, finally kicking out inspectors checking for WMD's. Every official gov't intelligence agecy in the world believes he has WMD's (not just the US, but plenty of others). Saddam, didn't make special rooms with giant atomic bombs with big red ribbons saying "Here I am, an Atomic Bomb, Mr. WMD". WMD's were found in Iraq, but liberal media doesn't want the war to be justified, so they don't report it. Chemical weapons were found, uranium was found, what else do you want. No one said Saddam, directly helped Al-queda, but he did help other terrorists, and violated UN resolutions. I guess you think things would have been better if Saddam was still in power? I don't think the Iraqi people would agree with you. The US has helped these people more in the last couple of years, than probably any of their own leaders for their entire history. Iraq (in the recent past) is what happens when leaders worry more about themselves (power, wealth, etc) instead of caring for their citizens. Now they have new schools, roads, sewer systems, running water, electrical power, etc. I would say life is probably much better for them now than it ever was. Man that turned into a long rant. I hate rants. Obama better not mess this up now that it's winding down.
  25. It's not totally based on his political party (although it does have some significance), it has mostly to do with his proposed policies (and/or "party" policies). I just don't like them. I'll give the guy a chance, but I'm definitely not expecting anything but miserable decisions (if he gets to actually make them himself, vs being told what to do by other party officials). Just for example: In Iraq, if I were an insurgent & Obama says all US troops will depart by Dec. 31, 2009. Then I'll sit around and do nothing but plan like crazy. On Jan 1, 2010 there'll be more chaos then all other years combined. Why? Because the US troops are gone, & Iraqi troops/police will eventually be whittled down. I would hope not, but it has happened locally in Iraq before. As far as I know, the happiest world leaders, and those first to congratulate Obama's win have been Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), President Tom from Iran (I'm not even trying to spell his name), and Castro; countries most against the United States. Eagle, do you see American troops stationed in Germany for the last ~60 years as occupying troops? Last time there was a permanent pullout of US troops, there was a bit of an uproar about US dollars leaving the local German economy. I don't hear about IED's and suicide bombers in Germany, so what is different between Germany & Iraq (other than the time troops have been "onsite")?
