Hello! As we all know, the Rebel CC-something frigate (not the gravity well one) and the Imp. Strike cruiser are rather redundant compared to the Assault Frigate and the Victory 2. I want to change that around a little, but its boring to make a new ship thats slightly more powerful than a Victory 2 but less so than an ISD2. So heres what I'm thinking: The ship will be outfitted with only Ion cannons. But lots of them. Maybe like 500 fore, 300 Starboard and Port, and 150 Aft with a decent rate of weapon recharge and range. They will be capable of carrying around 2 squadrons of fighters so they can attack the ship after they've disabled it. In battle, I'd think that their purpose would be to rush in and try to deal disable the shields before the heavy hitters like the ISD2 and SSDs move in. Does that sound like something that would be useful in the game? If so, which of these would be better? Fast and lightly shielded with a weak hull: This would allow you to build lots of them and have them zoom in and harrass the big guys. This would also give the lancers/carracks/corvettes/gunships something to hit after they obliterate the enemy fighters. Medium speed (ISD1) with strong shields and a medium hull: This means that your opponent will have to make the choice of either attacking the ion ship first and take damage from your big ship, or take on your Bulwark/SSD and hope the shields last long enough to destroy it before the ions eat away at their shields. I understand that this ship is awfully specialized and would be fodder for fighters, but I think they would add some variety to the tactical game, as no ships seem to focus solely on ion cannons.

Hi. Sorry if you've seen this before, but when I first tried to post this, it seemed to get lost. Anyway, I'm trying to make the Outlaw Star, which essentially is going to look like a red mon cal cruiser with arms. I'm using the Spline method in the tutorial, using gmax. The problem is that expanding the model in 3d makes it look very flat and boxy, wheras I'm looking for a smooth and rounded appearance. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi! For the last six months I've been showing up and asking for a lot of help with my TC. Now that its almost done, I thought I'd share what exactly that it is I'm doing. I recognize that a lot of the stuff here won't be to everyone's taste, but I'm sure all of you modders can recognize and appreciate the hard work that goes into changing this great game. Background: For the last few years (since 9th grade!), I've been running a text-based RPG that included everything from Star Wars to anime to comics. I had a huge player base and I have decided to create this mod so that they can have something semi permanent to remind them of all the fun they had. Here's what I've done: 1)All character cards changed to reflect the players and NPCs who appeared in my game 2) Threepio replaced with a Servbot (Megaman Legends), R2 replaced with Cupil (Skies of Arcadia), IMP 22 replaced with Stolteheim Reinback IV (Suikoden), and SD-7 replaced with a Prinny (Disgaea: Hour of Darkness) 3) Completely changed all the voices for all characters. I even got the local news guy from my city to do the voice of Han Solo's replacement. 4) ALL event and mission pictures have been replaced by original artwork drawn by my sister. Also, Coruscant has been replaced with Apokolips (from Jack Kirby's 4th world) and it has the firepits! 5) Galaxy background, shuttle, and command center redesigned and created in PSP by my girlfriend 6) Replaced/rebalanced all troops, fighters, and ships (models included). I replaced the redundant strike cruiser with a grappler ship (I still need the model), and gave it nothing but Ion cannons. 7) All the music has been changed The ending cinemas have been replaced with "slide shows" that resemble the movie when you access the credits in the shuttle, but with new graphics that are more relevant to the style of the game. Now I'm sure its nowhere near what most of these other TCs are, but with only 3 people (me, my girlfriend and my sister) working on it, its going along fairly well. Please provide any thought/comment about other things I could change to add a new "feel" to the game

I think I have it, then. Both Alsprite and Emsprite dlls have ALL the voices in them. Make sure that when you replace the files, you're putting the empire ones in Emsprite and the Alliance ones in Alsprite
-
Here are a few things to try: Regular wavs made in Sound recorder will work for voices. (NOT MP3s) If you're not used to reshacker, follow this advice: Open the .dll with the voices, then pay note to the folder that contains ALL the sounds. Then the number of the folder that contains the sound you want. From there, right click, "replace resource", and then a dialog will pop up. Use the open menu to select your .wav file, then for the first line, enter the name of the main folder that you first opened (which contains ALL the sound files). For the second line, name it the same name as the second folder that you opened. The last line is always 1033. Also, make sure you save. This should work. If that still doesnt work, please respond with exactly what is going wrong, and what program you are making the wavs in. Thanks.

How to Replace your Agent--the Easy way!
AdmiralToguroAni replied to AdmiralToguroAni's topic in Rebellion Editing
You can play Rebellion in multiplayer with any modifications--so long as your opponent also has those modifications. If you're going to play with someone else, I recommend sending him the Albrief, Alsprite, Embrief and Emsprite dlls for him to use while you play. -
As you can tell from all of the posts I've been making, agent editing has become quite a problem for me. In fact, I've been having so many problems that I think the big guys on the site are too annoyed with me to bother replying. Well, no worries: I have found an easy way to replace all of the files for your new agent, and it doesn't involve putting the information in one line at a time. It takes a little work, but its worth it. (Disclaimer: This information is for an UNANIMATED agent. If you want to add in animation, you are responsible for changing the appropriate filenames in the spaces where you need them. This will take more time, but will look better) WHAT YOU NEED: Reshacker Microsoft Excel a blank text document the command line (Start menu, run, cmd for windows users) HOW TO DO IT: 1)Manually replace all of the appropriate bitmaps in Reshacker (it takes about 30 minutes) for ALBRIEF.DLL, EMBRIEF.DLL, etc. Pay attention to the names of the files for Threepio versus the names for R2D2 (same goes for IMP22 and SD7) 2) Using the 302 transcoder program (you can PM me for it, or send me an email at FF7Turk@aol.com), turn the bitmap into a .bin file. You may be able to use other programs, like the New Fighters program, but I don't know if they work. Either way, just get your .bmp into a .bin. 3)In Reshacker, in the 302 folder, find the first number and memorize it. Then scroll down until the number drastically changes (such as 2011 to 2100. Stop when the numbers stop going in sequence). 4) Open Microsoft Excel. Once there, in column A1, put in this line of text: '-addoverwrite FILEPATHHERE. Make SURE you put the apostrophe before the minus sign, and put the file path to your .bin file one space after the "e" in "addoverwrite". 5) In B1, put "302," 6) In C1, put the starting number that was in the 302 folder in reshacker. 7) In D1, put in ",1033". In addition put ",1033" on D2. Using the fill handle (little black box on the bottom-right of the currently selected cell), begin to drag and copy all of that information. EVERYTHING should stay the same in each cell EXCEPT the numbers in the C column, which should be going up by one each time. End copying when you reach the last number that followed the first one sequentially (e.g. the numbers were 1100-1152 and followed by 1355, you would make the last one in the excel sheet 1152). 9) Create a new text document and copy the following into it: [FILENAMES] Exe=The full file path of your DLL. SaveAs=The full file path of your DLL (make a backup first). [COMMANDS] 10) One line under COMMANDS, paste your data from the Excel worksheet. save and close. 11) Go to your command line. Drop Reshacker in the command line, then hit the spacebar and type "-script" without the quotations, then hit the spacebar and drop your text file with all the data into it. hit the enter button. However many numbers were in the sequence was how many files you just replaced. Repeat for each sequence of numbers. I dont know if I'm the first one to do it or not, but it sure is a lot easier than editing them one at a time. I managed to get Albrief.DLL finished in 10 minutes using this, so it works. If you have any trouble, let me know so I can fix it. Good luck, and happy modding!

I havent played Protectorate, but if by starfield you're talking about the background images on the GID or Tactical combat, then you can fix it with Rebed. Just go into Rebed and go to "DLL entries". Now, go to "Interface", "Common Interface", and then highlight the backgrounds and choose "restore from CD". If its the tactical background (for ship battles), then go into your rebellion CD, hit "explore", and find the TACTICAL.dll file. Copy it into a temporary folder and use Reshacker to go into it. I believe its in the 303 folder, file 5030. Save the resource as a .BIN file and then open your real tactical data (in the rebellion folder), using reshacker and insert the .BIN file into the .DLL file.

Oh wow, am I an idiot. I've been doing this thing wrong the whole time. Seriously, I've been putting "BIN" as the file type in Resource hacker instead of the folder number. Okay guys, thanks for all the help, but now I finally get it.

I stumbled on here by accident, and now I come here every day because everyone here has been so helpful in answering questions concerning my TC. I also like the models, downloads, and other rebellion editing stuff you guys post here.

Hi again. Sorry to bring this post back from the grave, but I just now got around to trying this. Rather than replacing the existing entries, resource hacker simply doesnt change it. I I downloaded Ultraedit, saved entry 28861 in the RCdata folder of TextStra.dll as a .BIN file, then edited it (leaving the two lines and weird dots alone, as well as the hex code), then tried to save. Resource hacker won't overwrite it. Any ideas?

Thanks. You guys are great.

I dont know, because I replaced the files in Gokres.dll, but when you go to the encyclopedia, the old mission pics are still there, as are the pics in the mission screen (the menu that pops up when you click the rebel or imperial sign on the right side of a planet when someone is on a mission). It seems that all the Gokres.dll pics cover are the mission pictures when you try to assign missions to characters.
-
Where are the Encyclopedia size pics for the mission? I found the build pics in Gokres.dll, but I dont see the full-size ones that you find in the encyclopedia. Thanks for any advice you can give.
-
Okay. I'll go into Alsprite and replace all those entries and see if it works. Thanks.
-
Actually, Mask was kind enough to give me the program. If you want to PM me, I'll be glad to give it to you.

I replaced all the ones in Albrief.dll with the new .BIN files (it was the same file, with the same bitmap for original picture, first frame, and last frame), but not the ones in Alsprite.dll. Even though I didnt replace the animations in Alsprite, it shouldnt make a difference in the Briefing, right?

Hi. I hit a problem with the Agents. Specifically, I'm trying to replace C-3PO with a Servbot, and I managed to create a working bitmap that I placed in the "Albrief" and "Alsprite .dll files. Then, used the 302transcoder program to create an animation file (actually, I used the same picture for the base picture, first frame and last frame, since I didnt want them to be animated) and created a .bin file. I went in and replaced C-3PO's entries in the 302 folder of Albrief.dll. Now comes the problem. When I load up the game and the tutorial begins, the Servbot is in the background and a buggy Threepio is moving around inside of him. Any idea what causes that to happen? Thanks.

Is there any way to change the icon for the rebellion shortcut? You know, the little stormtrooper head that you double click to start the game? Thanks --Admiral Toguro

Boy do I feel silly. Thanks, it works now

Thats part of the problem. I wanted to replace the "Space Encounter" theme (MDATA.307 and MDATA.313). I couldnt play the original files in Media Player or sound recorder, so I went ahead and copied their names and renamed the new file to MDATA.307 and put it in the MDATA folder, overwriting the old file. Now in my window, it just shows a generic file type for everything but the two new files, which have the traditional Windows Media Player graphic over the file. They wont play in rebellion, so I dont know what to do. Could it be that my files are too large? The new one is like 40 megs or something, so its substantially bigger

Okay, I'm finally back. That whole Agent Editing problem got me frustrated for a while, but I'm determined to get this over with now that summer break is here (incidentally, I got my R2D2 replacement up. Some R2D2 still shows up when the animations are long, but its mostly good). Anyway, my problem is that I want to put some music in my TC. Using MP3toWAV, I was able to create a WAVE file. I open the Mdata file, but the files there arent WAVs, they're just "file"s. I went ahead and replaced the WAVs in Mdata with the new ones anyway, burned the CD and put it in, and the music doesnt play. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Its me again. I ran into a snag with editing the agent. Using the correct Rebellion color swatch and Paint Shop Pro, I created the intended replacement for R2D2. I used that base image as the bitmaps for Alsprite and Albrief.dll files. Then, I converted the picture into a .bin file using the program Mask gave me, and proceeded to replace all of R2s files in the 302 folder with it. When I start rebellion, the image still looks corrupted! What did I do wrong? any help would sure be appreciated! --Admiral Toguro (The Elder)

I used the original ones that came from the Rebellion CD

See, thats the problem--I didnt use Rebed to work with it. I only use reshacker because I dont know how to use rebed to alter game text.
