  1. Vader was having an off day during Episode IV. He was about to vaporize Luke and he had no idea that Luke was his son. "The Force is strong with this one." No duh, helmet head--he's your SON! I think he was too busy taking orders from Emperor Tarkin to really pay attention. Seriously though, I think he was too busy trying to pry Leia for information rather than learning about her with the Force. Vader can't read minds, and so he was so busy using that probe droid that he didnt think to look into her. And why should he? After all, I doubt Vader checks every one of his captives to see if they are related. Unless the person radiates an incredibly strong aura (like Luke and Obi), then Vader would probably have to actively sense them out. Notice that Vader could only barely sense Obi's aura when on the Death Star, so that lets you know how hard it was for him. In ep. 3, he'd only be able to Force Sense the twins, but Leia was so weak in the force that she might not even register right next to the uber-sensitive Luke, so that might explain the misconception.
  2. How do I do that? I have xp
  3. I dunno...I still think if you took some Sun Crusher designs, removed the superweapon in favor of that cloaking thing that the TIE Phantom has and beefed up the armor a little, you'd have a nice weapon. Think about it--the "Phantom Crushers" (or maybe the "Sun Phantoms"?), painted with space-like designs for camoflage cloak in and get close, then just ram the crap out of the Raporan fleet! Remember when they cut through the Imperial Star Destroyer in whatever book that was? You've got the capital ships fighting it out and the Rapora whipping them, and the starfighters are doing whatever it is starfighters do, when all of a sudden 4 or 5 Phantom Crushers appear out of nowhere and just ram the Raporan ships! They'd never know what hit 'em! They'd either have to focus their fire on the Phantom Crushers to crack the armor and leave themselves vulnerable to the enemy capitol ships, or go after the cap ships and get rammed by the Phantoms! If the enemy turbolasers were a problem, then the standard fighters could make runs along the side of the cap ships, ionizing or destroying the turrets so that side is undefended as they get rammed. what do you think?
  4. While I certainly don't agree with what occured, I always try to stand back and look at a bigger picture (if one exists). We don't know (or at least, I don't) who started these attacks, so I can't blame Islamic fundamentalists yet, nor will I until I get some proof. If we are too quick to lay blame, things become too hectic to control. Look at how Osama Bin Laden was the "suspected mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks" the first few months after the attack, and now he is the "evil cowardly menace that killed so many people". There was no hearing or trial. Personally, I believe that he WAS the mastermind, but we can't say in good consciousness that "only law-abiding westerners are innocent before proven guilty", no matter how strong the demand for vengeance gets. Someone said that terror needs to motivation, but we must remember that most terrorist attacks are the result of some person or group with a message to send. Whether that message is the desire to establish American independence from Britain or as retaliation against American occupation in Afghanistan, it is rarely done for no reason. My point is, don't dehumanize these people. They may be misguided, they may even be evil, but they're still humans. Terrorism is a weapon of the weak against the strong, and it is being used all too often against the wrong people recently. We could say that they are cowards, but when your force has a limited number of people, a full scale assault just isnt feasible. Look how America won the Revolution. They should be found and punished, as per the law, but the minute we stop thinking of terrorists as humans and as something lower, that is when we make dehumanization and the deprivation of rights the acceptable norm. As civilized citizens, we are above that. We have to be. I am not siding with the terrorists. I am siding with the victims and their families, with the people who want a world without terroristm, but against people who want to dehumanize a group of people because they disapprove of what they've done. I side against people who don't bother trying to understand their enemy--that unwillingness to understand is the same attitude that Al-Qaida has, and if both sides are like that, then no matter who wins, we lose.
  5. OT=Great (except ROTJ which was really good) TPM=Bad AoTC=Rather Bad ROTS=Pretty good Matrix=Really good Matrix Reloaded=Crap Matrix Revolutions or whatever the crappy movie's name was: Horrendous Scale (from best to worst): Great, really good, pretty good, rather bad, bad, horrendous, crap. Lucas has 4/6 movies that are at the very least, good, or 2/3. The Wakowski Brothers had 1/3 that was good. Therefore, I have to give it to the Matrix for being the worst foul up between the two.
  6. I mentioned what Conway said in an earlier post. Dooku posed as Sifo-Dyas to make the clones, but went ahead and used his Sith name with Jango (presumably because he didnt want Jango going to the council if he had any questions or concerns about the job). We also know that it was Dooku/Tyranus who trained Qui-Gon, as Dooku specifically says that in Ep. 2 when Obi-Wan is a little...tied up. Dooku also helps Obi-Wan-Complusive-Liar-Kenobi by being not only Qui-gon's master, but Yoda's apprentice. That way, we get this line: Yoda-->Dooku-->Qui-Gon (Ra's Al Ghul) Jinn-->Obi-Wan-->Luke. Since Yoda's lessons eventually trickled their way down to Obi, he can say that, indirectly, Yoda was the Jedi master who taught him! Of course, Obi-Wan is a compulsive liar anyway. Then again, so was Dooku, posing as Sifo-Dyas! Hmm....Yoda lied about the twins, making them appear to have died with Padme....now if we can just find evidence that Qui-Gon was a compulsive liar, we'll be good to go.
  7. I feel your pain. I'm doing way too much editing with my TC. I'm starting to feel like I'm doing as much work as the Reloaded team (minus the modeling for tactical). Just remember that although you can't change the fact that certain events happen, you CAN change what those events are. For example, I have Neflite (the Han Solo replacement) suffering from a heart disease. Sometimes he can recover, but othertimes he must go to the hospital (and risk being seen in public and the Empire finding out where he is). Once he's there, the replacements for Luke, Leia and Chewie must go track down some medicine. If they fail, then word of their endeavor leaks out and the Empire's troops swoop in and catch them while they're still tired. Sure it has nothing to do with SW, but by using different pictures and text in the DLL files, I've been able to completely change the event while maintain within the hardcoded limitations. Use your imagination and the game doesn't even have to BE about Star Wars anymore
  8. I've run into a problem--I can't get Threepio or IMP22 (or in my case, Scholtien Reinback IV and a Servbot) to shut up when they do their little speech in the beginning. Its really a chore when I want to test changes on a new game. I used to be able to do a mouse click and turn it off, but now I can't. I used a new strategy.dll file and after that I ran into this problem. Are they somehow related?
  9. This might be a silly question, but why don't they just build a few Sun Crushers? I figure that Quantom armor is rare and expensive, but surely theres more of it out there than what was used to make 1 sun crusher. They could even build it without the superweapon to save money and ram the Rapora ships, killing the occupants and saving the bulk of the ship for salvaging? The Sun Crushers are so small that the bigger ships would probably mistake them for fighters in the melee unless they were specifically on the lookout for them.
  10. my two cents is this: Maul uses this close range style of kicks and close slashes and stabs by the way he holds his sabre. Dooku on the other hand is a fencer, holding his sabre out in front of him, allowing him to attack from medium length. We also know he can do quite a kick, as we see him whack Obi in Ep. III. I think Dooku would destroy Maul, and SHOULD have destroyed Ani. Heck, I think Dooku could beat Palpy in a lightsabre fight, as Palpy likes to jump around like Yoda, but is a much bigger target (Palpy would fry Dooku with his two handed force lighting though). He was, in my opinion, the second most powerful character in the prequel trilogy, right after Palpy. This is because he stalemated Yoda after fighting and beating two Jedi, and beat a Jedi master with a kick and a force push while managing to hold out against an enraged knight for a little while, at least. Given what I've seen in the movie, I think Dooku could have taken Yoda if they both had fresh feet. As for Maul, I dont know if I'd call it "premature", but I do think that he could live until AotC and not interrupt anything. He could take the place of Zam Wessell, actually, making a hit against Padme and running away on his speederbike. End it in a fight scene instead of a bar scene and you've got an exciting action sequence. (to make Jango work, they could have Jango doing something like supplying Maul with the worms and glass cutter and fly away when Maul gets killed). Or, he could live unti Ep. 3 and take Dooku's place in the fight, with Dooku himself replacing Grievous, who was unnecessary to the story. As for C'Boath, I'm going to say that he wasnt a Sith Lord but rather a Dark Jedi Master, like an upgraded version of Ventress. If he ever called himself a Sith, he must have been mistaken, just like Ventress in the cartoon. I know in the comic, C'Boath looked pretty scared when Thrawn just stood there with the Ylasmari or whatever those force-repelling squirrels are.
  11. Okay, here's the deal. This works on my game, so I'm going to assume it'll work on yours. If you copy the MDATA folder into the rebellion directory of your HD, you can play Rebellion without a CD if you did a full install. Once on the hard drive, those MDATA files, which DO contain ALL The music you hear in the game (the DLL files contain the voices and sound effects, not the music). Go to http://www.swrebellion.com/forums/postt468.html to find out what MDATA entry corresponds to each piece of music. Simply replace those files with a .WAV file by renaming the wav file, and you're good to go. No need for the patch as far as music is concerned. As for the movies (the really big MDATA entries), I cant help with those.
  12. Another thing which you should know is that there is a folder called MDATA (by default, located in your Rebellion CD; you'll need to take it out and put it in the rebellion directory) that contains all the music files. Simply make .WAVs of the songs you want, then rename them to "MDATA.xxx" where "xxx" is the number of the file extension. Replace the existing one with the new one, and the music will play in rebellion.
  13. I believe that they are in the Gokres.dll file
  14. How do I save it in Lithunwrap? It says "all material names need to be unique: blank". I dont understand what it means
  15. sounds fun. Answer Eko's questions about how to join, as I'd like to know too
  16. okay. I extracted the file I wanted as a .x file, as the tutorial instructs. However, I dont understand how to import it into gmax. Can someone help me with this? I want to modify the design for the Strike Cruiser.
  17. did a reinstall and got it working. Everythings going great again! Now if someone could just email me the tactical palette at FF7Turk@aol.com I can replace that darn Death Star.....
  18. Okay, I replaced that background with the non-working one (file 901 in the Strategy.dll), but I get a windows error message that says its not a valid picture file when I load it up. It IS a bitmap and it uses the right palette, and it crashes the game. What's wrong?
  19. Are you sure you're not thinking of Tyranus instead of Plagueis? Dooku was Qui-gon's master, and ordered the clones posing as Sifo-Dyas
  20. Copy it, paste it into paint, then save it as a 256-color bitmap. It will change the colors around a little and darken the lighter side of his face. If thats not adequate for you, then you might try some shading options on the more professional programs like PSP
  21. oh, I get it...I think. The VSD that has currently been made has wings that bow out, like an X-wing. The one he wants have the wings that come in together. I think you can import the existing model into gmax and edit that yourself. Shouldnt be too hard if you read Mask's tutprials
  22. I go into reshack, right click the image that pops up and select "copy", then paste it as a new image into PSP
  23. Okay, I'm having some trouble again.... I took a picture of a lambda shuttle landing and I want it to be the pic that displays when a fleet arrives. Using PSP, I open up a pic I copied straight from Rebellion (using Paste as new image). Then I do the same with the new picture, but paste it as a new layer. Then, I hit "merge down" so the layers are merged together. Finally, I save it as a .bmp. The image is horribly corrupt! I think its saving it as a 24-bit bitmap instead of a 256 color bitmap! How do I get this darn thing to work?!
  24. That sort of makes me wonder....I know that after x number of research advancements, you get the "research exhausted" message, just like you get "recruitment exhausted" after 30 characters. What then, would happen if you made all ships buildable by both sides with a research requirement of 0?
  25. I dont know if 60 or so years (or even 100) is enough to make a prophesy believable by people as smart (?) as Yoda, Windu, and the mysterious Yaddle (who never appears after episode 1). It may be something thats really, really old. Like slightly post KOTOR old. I'm also convinced that while Dooku was a pawn, Maul wasn't. I believe that if Palpy or his master really wanted to raise the Chosen one, he would have done so in a more controlled environment. Being a senator from Naboo who stays on Coruscant all the time is too far away to maintain control over Anakin. Rather, I think Sidious/Palpy was prepared to start the Clone Wars with Maul. Maul was a weakling and would NEVER get strong enough to become at threat to Sidious, so Sid could use Maul for Jedi assassinations during the Clone Wars. Dooku, by this time, had already gone to the Dark Side and, though he wouldnt be a Sith Lord, was still convinced that the Republic needed to be cleansed and so went along with it. To that end, the Clone Wars and Palpy's rise to power could have been done WITHOUT Anakin. Think about it--we all know Palpy could have owned Windu any time he wanted. Maul could take out those younglings, and he'd still Order 66 the remaining Jedi. Lets also not forget that without trying to replace Anakin, he'd still keep Dooku around, and Dooku would have been able to kill Obi-wan in a straight fight (as we saw in Ep. 3). Given that, even Grievous would still be alive. It seems that if Qui-Gon's ship hadn't been busted up and had to dock at Tat, Palpy couldnt have found Anakin, and so he would have won the war as Sidious, and not Palpy. Now consider this: Grievous is nearly immortal now, thanks to his droid body. Maul is fairly young, and Dooku, though old, was persuasive enough to probably turn those Younglings once Sidious wins. It seems to me that Palpy sacrificed three good underlings for one slightly better one, and because of his short-sightedness.....he got the shaft.
