Anyone know why the AI will turn tail and flee when they're winning? I've had a Star Destroyer loaded with TIEs and two carracks run from my colonizing fleet of eight medium transports. Only thing I can think of is that the AI gets scared when they're outnumbered, regardless of their firepower.

You guys have helped me out so much with my conversion that I'll volunteer to help, to return the favor. I'm good with digging through DLL files, testing, doing some of the manual labor (DLL editing, mostly), and that sort of thing. Unfortunately, to this day I cannot seem to get those palettes right and I'm a terrible artist, so thats out of my range but if you need me to whip up some programs to make new agents/planets/etc, then let me know. I'll be happy to help.

Obviously you wouldnt duel with the commander like in pirates, lol. It'd be nice if your little team of pirates/droids could board the ship and fight the enemy troopers "Battlefront" style though! And if you get a star destroyer you could use the tractor beam to take the ship into your cargo hold and board it like they did in Episode IV. I think it could work, but it would be too different from Pirates to justify trying to mod that game for it. oh well....

Star Wars Galaxies
AdmiralToguroAni replied to Darth_Rob's topic in Old Star Wars games nobody plays anymore -JI
I played SWG on Naritus before I found this site, which sucks because I could have played with you all. Anyway, about 6 months ago I dropped out and started playing EQ2 and am thoroughly enjoying it, but I hear they did the combat revamp thats supposed to fix some problems in the game. Is it still a big grind fest? I hated working my way up to Jedi, and when I finally got him, it sucked. Have they fixed all that, or has everyone who might know already quit? (I dont want to use the galaxies forums because people there are either crazed fanatics or whiners) -
HELP!How can I destroy the defense facility?
AdmiralToguroAni replied to no23op57's question in Questions from Newbies
Theres another option: Y-Wings/Tie Bombers. I know a DS loaded with the bombers will blow away most shields if you have an admiral. Victory 2s work well, but I'd rather build a carrier and 6 bombers and use ISD2s to do my fighting. To my knowledge, there is nothing in the game that can survive a giant swarm of fighters, and planetary shields are no exception. -
Automated Spy mission assignment within systems
AdmiralToguroAni replied to BeerSnorkel's topic in Rebellion 2 Ideas
Sure, I'd be up for that. Just have an option that says "Assign to Planet", and the Spy will just remain on that planet and repeatedly send you information every 20-40 days (or however long they usually take). you'd still have to build at least one for each planet you want to spy on, but it lets you focus on the more interesting aspects of the game, like....building mines! j/k -
Dont get the wrong idea about this post, I'm not asking for help on making a game or anything, but I'm just sort of rambling about a game from my youth and how cool it would be to see a Star Wars version of it. Anyone remember Pirates! Gold? They just recently re-did it for PC and Xbox and made me remember the good old days. Anyway, the game has you as a privateer on the Caribbean in the 1500-1600s. You could ally yourself with any of the 4 major powers, or remain neutral. You would recruit men, sail around in your little ship and capture bigger ships through space combat and boarding. Once you capture a ship, you can use it to attack other ships or towns. Of course, you could never get a giant fleet together because you dont have enough men, but if you were lucky you could take some towns along the coast to use as bases. I wish there was a Star Wars game like that. Maybe it could take place between the Thrawn era and the Yuuzan Vong invasion, when ships were getting more efficient in terms of crew sizes. You could fly in the different systems and capture New Republic ships or Remnant ships or whatever you wanted. I suppose a problem could be manpower for those giant starships like the Star Destroyers, but it would be neat to take over a small planet, steal some Federation Droid Pilot plans and start making droids to help you pilot the ship (Roger Roger). Of course, whoever you steal the ships from wont be happy and they'll send fleets after you (from what I understand, it was a miracle if you could get ahold of a dreadnaught, much less a star destroyer). To that end, capturing Star Destroyers would be the ultimate challenge in the game, sending your raiding party in and getting into a battle with the stormtroopers and fleet regiments inside. More than likely you'd be using dreadnaughts, corvettes, YT-1300s, or whatever they use at that time. That post Thrawn/Pre-Vong era seems the best place to put it, because its during that time that the Republic is experiencing growing pains, and the Empire is reduced in size and seems to come up with new super-weapons every other book or so, so I doubt they'd have TOO many fleets going after some space pirates. Anyway, I'm finished rambling. Just wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be cool?

Well, I dont see any reason not to support his endeavor. Lets not be too pessimistic because he's doing it to help all of us. Good luck!

The Clone Wars Total Conversion By:Adthrawn
AdmiralToguroAni replied to adthrawn's topic in RebED Cards
Just my take on it, but I'd probably do it like this: Empire: Old Republic Emperor Palpy=Chancellor Palpy Darth Vader=Mace Windu The Reasoning behind this is that Palpy is the Supreme Chancellor and makes all the important decisions, so therefore it would make sense for him to give that leadership bonus. He's also manipulative (a good diplomat), and giving him some combat would make sense because if he were truly theatened, he would fight with that Dark Side strength that would make sure no attacker would live to reveal his power. Windu could use mind tricks as a diplomat and we know he could fight. Since he trained padawans, I guess that could translate into recruitment. Also, it would make sense for certain events. Giving the Republic Coruscant also makes sense according to the movies. Rebellion: Confederacy Mon Mothma=Nute Gunray Luke Skywalker=General Grievous Han Solo=Durge Leia=Count Dooku According to the Clone Wars television show and the movies, it was of vital importance to capture General Grievous and Nute Gunray. Since they were the prime targets in the show/movie, it makes sense for them to be the guys to go after in the game. Mothma's diplomacy/leadership translates well into Gunray, and you could remove Grievous' diplomacy in favor of some leadership and titles (consider giving Gunray some titles, too). Solo's stats would make a good Durge, and we saw from the Clone Wars cartoons that he prefers speedy vehicles, so it wouldnt be too far-fetched to imagine that his ship is speedy enough to justify that Milennium Falcon event. Finally, Count Dooku makes a great diplomat and leader, but Leia's stats make him rather weak. Buff out Dooku's combat and espionage up to 80 or so, and you've got a strong team. I'm aware that these major characters are more powerful than the Republic's major characters, but I think its more than balanced when you have all those Jedi on the Republic side, and the Confederacy only has Ventress and possibly Jango Fett. As for the events, you could consider these: Luke Learns his heritage: Grievous and Windu, both Generals, meet for the first time, probably over Holograms (As it would make sense for them to at least meet to exchange demands/threats). This event means that Grievous has to "prepare for war", and so goes off to hunt random Jedi and comes back stronger. It is also the time when Grievous tells Dooku that he needs to stop acting like a diplomat and take a more aggressive position, thus activating the Force Powers that Dooku had been holding back (the leia event). Grievous Vs. Palpy already happened in the cartoon, as did Grievous vs. Windu. If Grievous gets captured, just rationalize and say that there were too many people around for Grievous and he got swarmed and captured. The Dooku vs. Windu or Palpy would work, as they would only occur after Grievous tells Dooku that the time for action is now. Finally, we can say that the remaining Mandalorians aren't too happy with Durge, and attack him occasionally with the intent to turn him in to the Republic, taking care of Solo's event. Well, thats how I would do it. I havent read any of the books, so I may be missing something, but its something to consider. -
Model Design finished...maybe
AdmiralToguroAni replied to AdmiralToguroAni's topic in Rebellion Model Editing
I tried to find the original modelling tutorial, but I always get a "file not found" message when I try to download it from the site. Any ideas? Also, could someone please tell me why my ship looks so bad in lithunwrap, yet looks complete in deep explorer and gmax? Thanks -
Hello again, After messing up my attempt at a new Imperial GID Background, I need a new one. I get an error message when I try to yank the one out of the CD, so if someone could email me the default Imperial BG at FF7Turk@aol.com or just post a link to it here, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

It is my experience that ANY editing will cause Rebellion to be unusable in Multiplayer unless your friend has those same edited files. If you just use Rebed, you can go to the save feature and make a file that your friend can load up, but if you change the .dll files with reshacker or the model importer, you're gonna have to send those .dll files to him.
-
Yeah, I cant seem to get it to work. Can you send it to FF7Turk@aol.com ? Thanks

its odd. I saved my image (the default of image1.psimage) and I went to image, palette, but the "save palette" option is missing. Any ideas?

AdmiralToguroAni replied to AdmiralToguroAni's topic in Rebellion Model Editing
okay. I'll take a look (I've been using the addendum so maybe I missed it) -
how do you export the pallete and apply it to the new pic? I'm not really good with PSP

AdmiralToguroAni replied to AdmiralToguroAni's topic in Rebellion Model Editing
how would I go about doing that? The models are all inside the DLL files, and I dont know where they are in the DLL files, much less how to get them out -
looks good. How does it look on the smallest setting? If its not messed up, how did you make it that way?
-
Hm...I know that the big ones are in the encyclopedia folder, or Edata. The pics that appear in the window are, I believe, in the Gokres.dll folder (incidentally, the one you want is entry 7184). Finally, the teeny tiny pictures that you see when you right click the mission icon on the bottom right of a planet are also in Gokres (in your case, you want entry 23568). Be careful, however. The tiny picture seems to be more picky about what colors you use, and therefore can look screwy, even if you use the same palette for the previous entry! Hope that helps. --Admiral Toguro

After a lot of hard work, I have the model design for the Outlaw Star! Take a look: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/ToguroAni/Shipcopy.bmp That was made in Gmax using a variety of smaller shapes. I exported it as a .Md3 file and ignored the dialogue that followed as I didnt know what it was talking about. Then, I used Deep Explorer to open it up and produce the bitmap that you see above. I also saved it as a .X file using Deep Explorer, but not before I right clicked each section and set the color to what I want it to be (the ship is smooth enough that I can get by without texturing for this basic level ship. Besides, Im no artist!). So here I am with a single .x file. My questions are these: looking at it in lithunwrap, it looks like a garbled bunch of nothing. Yet the bitmap above clearly shows a completed pic. What went wrong? Next, I used the default grid size when making this in Gmax, and made the entire ship without zooming in or out. How big will it be in-game? Finally, could someone explain what to do about the close/medium/far things? Thanks! --Admiral Toguro

thats so weird. You'd think that if I took the planet blockaded pic from the strategy.dll file and put it over the fleet pic, it would work perfectly. Could it be because I saved the bitmap and replaced it rather than save it as a .BIN file and replaced it?
-
Great, thanks!

Beginning a model, need help
AdmiralToguroAni replied to AdmiralToguroAni's topic in Rebellion Model Editing
Okay. I dont know how to take screenshots, so I uploaded the file. Its a Gmax file, btw. http://www.freewebs.com/urpgdownload/index.htm This is the blueprint I was using, I tried to add some spikey things to the top and simplify the back end. http://www.evilnet.net/~jhfong/probe/Models/anime_outlaw-star_fig.jpg See how the base picture is rounded and mine is flat? I created this using Mask's "Spline tutorial", btw. -
ugh. I thought there was just a tactical and strategy palette. Any idea on how to get it to work?
-
I'm gonna need about a gig o' webspace to host the darn thing. Fortunately I have a friend who'll give me all the space I need. Anyway, I ran into a problem when I was testing it. I replaced the "Fleet has arrived" pic with the "Planet is under blockade" pic because I dont use TIEs in my game (Gundams>TIES), but that pic shows up as corrupted! It has a reddish hue to it and looks grainy. Its saved as a 256 color bitmap and since it was from another part of the Strategy.dll file, I'm sure it uses the same palette. whats wrong?
