Why Do We Like The Empire?
AdmiralFishface replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in General Discussion
When you think of the Empire as the 'bad guys' in a movie/game way, you overlook their racism, their opressions and their general...uh, bad behavior. They're just the 'bad guys' and those are pretty much cooler everywhere. Were the Empire around right now as a political faction, you'd really think differently about them. Same with WWII Germany. Those Nazi guys are really so much as a stereotype, no longer seen as what they actually were (with a lot of help by their continuing presentation in video games and movies like Indiana Jones). -

Umm, jah, I found it (before your post but thanks anyway). I'm trying to convert SFC .mod to .x, is there anything I should know for doing that?

That would be a great help; Being able to use Armada and SFC models would GREATLY reduce the amount of work needed for this (even more so as I own both of the games and even have a number of player-made models). How is it done? -

1. I do have the knowledge, and what I don't know can easily be found somewhere on the internet. I don't know about the rest of us, either, that's why I posted this and am now waiting for feedback, to see if there was anyone interested. 2. Yes, and I have even made out a few problems regarding interface used by both sides. So that's that for a completely different interface for either side. This would probably also be one of the most time-consuming parts of creating the mod. But I have nothing better to do in the next three months anyway. 3. No. Actually, for now, we (at least I) don't have any models. One of the challenges will be to find them. As for the last one: Whenever you're ready! -

I was reading about Cain's plans to create a SW vs. ST TC and thought 'Wow, that sounds great, I wonder how far that's possible'. In fact, the more I thought about it, the more problems I saw. What about balancing? Who would side with whom? How fast would the ships involved move? Who would be the characters for either side? and so on. So why not take this one step further? Why not make a ST only mod? Sure, this would not be without problems either. First of all, Rebellion is a SW game. All of the UI would have to be changed. Cutscenes are impossible to change, which is especially bad. Ships would be limited to pulse type weapons (but tactical combat always had it's problems). Still, I'd like to attempt this, I would like to try and make a Star Trek mod. I already have lots of ideas concerning this. 1) Setting This TC would be set in the ST: TMP era, meaning in between the first and the first few scenes of the seventh movie. Good thing about this is a lot of models could be, umm, borrowed from Starfleet Command. The parties involved would be the Federation (obviously) and the Klingons. The 'galaxy' would be reduced to a few sectors on the borders of these two galactic superpowers. 2) Characters Needs more ideas, but characters for the Feds would probably include the whole Enterprise bridge, Admiral Hayes and some others (minor characters should be available in sufficient numbers), Klingons would include Chancellor Gorkon, maybe, as well as his daughter Azet'bur, General Chang, Brigadeer Kurla, Captains Klaa and Kruge and some others (getting enough minors could be difficult here) 3) Ships Feds: One or two troop transports, Oberth-class survey ship, Okinawa-class frigate, Akula-class destroyer, Miranda-class medium cruiser, Constitution-class heavy cruiser, Constitution-refit heavy cruiser, Excelsior-class heavy cruiser, Excelsior-refit class heavy cruiser (Enterprise-B), Soyuz-class support cruiser, Ark Royal-class carrier, Ulysses-class dreadnought, Ares-class battleship, and maybe the famous federation stardock Klinks: Bird-of-prey, F5 destroyer, D5 light cruiser, D7 heavy cruiser, K'T'Inga-class command cruiser, C8 dreadnought, C8V carrier, B10 Battleship and a few additional ones. 3a) Models I'm gonna need help on those, but with SFC models convertable to .x, there should be little problems regarding them 3b) Fighters SFC features a variety of fighters (if only with one model per race) and those could be used in reb as well. 4) Troops and special units coming soon 5) Interface I'd give it a try to completely replace the existing interface with a Star Trek themed one, one for each race. I know how they should look and sound like and with a little work and help I might be able to reproduce it. I'd even replace IMP/SD-7 and 3PO/R2 with less advanced, more fitting interface graphics. Federation computer voice samples are easy to find on the internet, klingon might be a bit more difficult. Well, folks, it's 4:30 AM so please tell me: Did what I just wrote make any sense? Could I really make this mod? If I tried, would you help me? If you'd like to help me, what could you help me with? Or is there the famous one thing I overlooked that renders this project utterly doomed? Awaiting your replies and wishing you a good night is Admiral Fishface

Civilisation, Age of Empires, Homeworld, Rebellion, Master of Orion,... Strategy Games will always be my favourites. That's why I wish for one good space RTS game in the Star Wars universe. Is that too much? One good one? Please? OK, I'll go to bed now...

Aww, I wanted to say that!

Ooh, video games... "Ple-e-ease! No hurt, no kill!" - Gharbad the Weak, Diablo "Well, really great to have you with me, Jasp!" "Your gratitude has been acknowledged." "Gee, you're a real talker, are you?" "Your sarcasm has been acknowledged." - Jake Logan, J.A.S.P.E.R. pilot android, Tachyon: The Fringe "Have you ever sat on a piece of gothic architecture for 200 hundred years, it gets right up your arse, you know." "Uh, isn't it a bit early in the day to start talking about gothic architecture?" - Gargoyle, Conker, Conker's Bad Fur Day

A pity for this thread that the best moments in B5 were not carried by words, like in the "one thing at a time" scene, or (one of my favourite scenes also) when the Centauri fleet is bombarding Narn and Mollari stares out the window with a 'Great Maker, what have I done' look on his face. My very favourite scene is when Londo talks to Morden for the last time, lets the Shadows next to him be shot and finally blows up the island Selini (was that the name?) with the Shadow vessels on it. "What are you going to do, Mollari? Blow up the island?" "Actually,... now, that you mention it..." "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" BOOM.

Who's your favorite Star Wars MOVIE character?
AdmiralFishface replied to a topic in General Discussion
Oh, great, we've gained a member with the discussion abilities of a three-year-old. If you have to argue with each other do it via a messenger service, but keep the forum free of this, right? And NIIIC, you're getting VERY insulting very quickly and thus VERY annoying. Restrain yourself or go play with people who like to offend each other. -
Xon. Londo was talking about the last of the Xon. "How will this end?" "In fire" -Centauri Emperor and Kosh "Hostiles might be splitting up so they can be with both groups to keep them in line." "Unless they are all hostile and some are just more hostile than others." "Well thank you for that ray of sunshine, Marcus. Next time I feel the need to be depressed I will remember to give you a call." -Sheridan, Marcus "Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Kosh" "Kosh who?" "Gesundheit!" -Sheridan, Ivanova "Trust me." "Trust you? Londo, my brain will be five days dead before I ever trust a Centauri. The first time we meet you people, the first time any other civilization, you told us you practically run the entire galaxy. What was it you said, a huge empire." "Come on, public relations." "Only, that hasn't be true for a hundred years. Then you give us this line, that Earth is some lost Centauri tribe, making us distance relatives. Until we finally got our hands on some Centauri DNA and find out we are not related at all. Appears aside, we are two completely different species. " "A clerical error." -Londo, Garibaldi "Ah, arrogance and stupidity all in the same package. How efficient of you." - Londo "ZOG." "Zog? What do you mean Zog? Zog what? Zog yes? Zog no? -First Ones, Ivanova and one of my favourites: "Why don't you eliminate the entire Narn homeworld while you're at it? " "One thing at a time, Ambassador. One thing at a time." -Londo, Morden

Who thinks Lord of the Ring is the best film ever made?
AdmiralFishface replied to NIIIC's topic in Outside Interests
I voted for 'other' as well. Can't put a finger on a specific one, though, either. Of all the SW films I think Ep. V was the best and the other classic two were really good as well, and I liked The Two Towers as a book and as a movie, but the other two LotR movies utterly failed to impress me as much as the books did, though they did have the proper atmosphere and were visually brilliant. And I completely agree with Brass_Bra_Leia: The books are really worth reading, even more so as most fantasy and a lot of non-fantasy-writers had been inspired by them.
