  1. Well my computer crashed and formated about a month ago so I went from 30% complete to 0% complete... Dumb machine
  2. Actually Jackson did do the events in the films in the right order. If you've read anything on how the books were written you realize that events in the Two Towers like Frodo's capture are taking place in tandem with the assault on Minas Tirith. In the books the narrator follows each plot in such a way that other events are going on that you can't see at that moment but he reveals whats going on elsewhere at the same time in another book. The way Jackson did it is the only way it could have been filmed (With the exception of cutting out the pillaging of the shire.) Jackson presents the events in the order in which they occured by a timeline in which Tolkien laid down each to occur. He did it right.
  3. I do much the same thing... Examples: BCRS: Vengeance Derra IV CRV: Spike III FRG: Redemption ESC: Hornet DREAD: Katana QFC: Flurry CRS: Liberty CC44: Judiciary CRCK: Death's Hand ATR: Omega 3 BBCRS: Yavin's Hope INT: Constraint Just try and translate these into their ship classes. (If you play XWA it should be easy.)
  4. I based it off the X-wing Alliance combat stats for the changes... Instead of building full squadrons of starfighters you build flights of four fighters. Currently a Y-wing Flight has the following stats: Construction Cost: 8 Maintenance Cost: 2 Laser Cannon: 2 Ion Cannon: 50 (Ion Cannons + Torpedoes*6) Torpedoes: 48 Shield Strength: 57 (RU + SBD)/2 An X-wing Flight has the following stats: Construction Cost: 4 Maintenance Cost: 1 Laser Cannon: 4 Ion Cannon: 36 (Ion Cannons + Torpedoes*6) Torpedoes: 36 Shield Strength: 35 (RU + SBD)/2 A TIE Fighter Flight has these stats: Construction Cost: 2 Maintenance Cost: 1 Laser Cannon: 2 Ion Cannon: 0 (Ion Cannons + Torpedoes*6) Torpedoes: 0 Shield Strength: 15 (RU + SBD)/2 Giving Torpedoes such destructive power may go against me, the TIE Bombers will certainly be a pain... Bulk Cruiser: Construction Cost: 18 Maintenance Cost: 18 Hull Strength: 91 (1/10th of RU) Shield Strength: 176 (1/10th of SBD) Turbolasers: 6/2/26/26 Victory Star Destroyer: Construction Cost: 30 Maintenance Cost: 32 Hull Strength: 152 Shield Strength: 320 Turbolasers: 200/80/140/140 Maybe starfighters are just a wee bit overpowered... I made them have high shield rate to try and give them a better lifetime during a combat engagement. It worked, perhaps to well. It’ll take legions of fighters to catch the bombers before they do their damage, playing as either side. Anyway back to the game... Day 200 Kashyyk: Mon Mothma stood at the head of the council meeting room high above Kashyyk’s lush forests, “The situation in the Sumitra sector has not stabilized since the battle of Geedon V. Imperial fleets have continued to strike upon our systems. Alk’lellish III and Boordii have been occupied by Imperial forces. Yavin IV has once again been occupied by Imperial troops. It seems the Empire is concentrating on kicking us out of this sector.â€
  5. Okay this forum will feature a battle by battle overview of my latest SWR game. File Save Name Valiant. I'm playing as the rebels, well just take a look... It had been just over four months since the Death Star was destroyed over Yavin, and dozens of star systems had joined the rebels. The entire Sumitra Sector had joined the rebels after the Imperial Navy suffered a second set back at Yavin. Four Regiments of Stormtroopers, a full Brigade, had been destroyed on the ground with no losses to the rebels. That had been two months ago and the Imperial Navy has already begun to attempt to reverse these setbacks in the sector. A small armada had been sighted over the world of Alk'lellish III, an important manufacturing center with over eleven active construction yards. The Imperials bombed it into rubble. Then a much larger force was sighted, equipped with ground troops, over the world of Geedon V, just a few parsecs from the rebel headquarters at Kashyyk. An imperial presence could not be tolerated this close to the Alliance Headquarters, and Commander Afyon had been given his orders, the destruction of the Imperial fleet over Geedon V. To do this he had the entire Kashyyk Home Defense Fleet with over ten capital ships and ten squadrons of starfighters plus the commander’s flight amounting to just over 124 fighters, the majority of them X-wings. Commander Afyon paced the bridge of his command ship the Quasar Fire Carrier Flurry. It wasn’t the strongest vessel in the force, but for this engagement it was the most important. It held a full compliment of starfighters in its bays, just under fifty of them. In addition there were four Bulk Cruisers: the Hope’s Heart, Blessed Liberty, and Acheron. These were the core of the Alliance Capital Ship Arsenal. Each one had been modified to accommodate a squadron of fighters. While these three ships were aging hulks of vessels three more ships had joined the Fleet, the three new Nebulon B Frigates built in their yards at Kashyyk. The laborers which had crafted the ship named them in honor of their local allies, the ships became War Debt, Wookie’s Heart, and Life Debt. Finally two more ships had been transferred to the fleet from Yavin shortly before its fall, the Corvette Fires of Hope, and the Medium Transport ATS-001. But compared to the force they faced it seemed to be a puny display. The Imperial Fleet blockading Geedon V was composed of seven vessels. One gaelleon (Griffin), four Dreadnaughts (Goblin, Lion, Tiger, and Bear) and two Victory Star Destroyers one of which was so new that it didn’t yet have a name, the other was the Triton a veteran of the assault on Yavin IV. But for this mighty force there was one major weakness, they only had eight Tie Fighters to defend themselves with. Only two thirds of a squadron would stand in the way of the Rebel Y-wings and X-wings. The Rebel fleet arrived in the Geedon V system less then a day after it had launched from Kashyyk. When it arrived the Imperial Fleet was waiting for them. Commander Afyon leaned back in the command chair as he surveyed the Imperial ships breaking orbit and moving to engage his force, “Launch all fighters. Red Group will engage their fighter screen. Gold, Blue, and Green Groups hit those capital ships.â€
  6. You know in all my years gaming I only built a Death Star once and had it blown up by the Rebels in five minutes. Since then I've come to consider them the greatest way to misplace resources in the universe.
  7. Who says that the people in Star Wars would attack the people in Star Trek or vice versa. I'd think that after the initial shock you'd see a whole network of alliances and trade form between the groups. Heck some groups in each have groups that are culturally identical in the other. For Example: Ferengi-Trade Federation Klingon-Mandalorian Federation-Rebel/New Republic/GFFA Species 8472-Yuuzhan Vong Romulan-Yevetha or Kuati Cardassian-Imperial Remnant Dominion-Sith Empire And then theres the Borg. Heck we'd have to set up ground rules to keep Star Trek and Star Wars fans from saying that something done by the other side isn't possible. So in order for that to work lets say that the technology is roughly equivalent in capability. A Turbolaser is just as destructive as a Disruptor. A Photon torpedo is just as destructive as a Proton Torpedo. It gets complicated.
  8. Actually if this is based on the Battlefield Engine you can add new things, but its kind of hard.
  9. OOC: Rise Darth Sidious and show your worth . IC: "Good Commodore Vraten, your ships performed their maneuver flawlessly. Pass on my complements to the crews," The Timeless One smiled as he turned toward the holographic representation of the battle unfolding outside, "Our losses were fewer then anticipated. Now its time to make good on our start, contact the groups. Have them stand by to engage." * * * Han Solo glanced up from his holomap as the shimmering holographic image of Grand Admiral Thrawn appeared across from him, "General Solo, my ship's have opened a window for the evacuation of your forces. We'll hold them off as long as we can but I suggest you begin evacuating as soon as possible." Han smiled, "Already on it Admiral, we'll need you to send some of your fighters down to ensure our transports a chance to get to your window. The Rapora have near complete air superiority." Han grimaced as the building rocked from an explosion, "I've already ordered the embarkation of the remnants of the UDA force, they will be among the first up the well." "Thank you General. You will have your air support." Thrawn answered before shimmering out of existence. Han turned to the command staff, "Inform all commands, Anoat Race. I repeat, Anoat race. Lets go people." He turned to Leia, "Grab goldenrod and head for the Falcon, we'll burn our way out of here." Leia's smile twisted slightly before answering, "I sure hope she doesn't need maintance." * * * Kyp and Ulan turned as they stepped inside the hardened ferrocrete walls of the base. Through the door they watched as more personnel stormed toward the opening, desperate to escape the enemy hot on their tail. Already there were defenders filing in along the firing slits and loosing their fire on the onrushing Rapora and Sith. As Kyp closed down his blade and hunkered down behind the cover he pulled out his commlink, "Kyp to Horn, we're under cover but the Rapora are still advancing." "So you want me to do something about it? Sorry Kyp but I'm a little busy here." "Sith," Kyp muttered as he thumbed off the comlink and filled his hands with a blaster from one of the fallen stormtroopers and glanced out the firing slits, "This isn't good." Through the viewports he watched as the Raporan armored units finished off the last of the imperial walkers. He could see a formation of stormtroopers beings cut to peices after being rounded up by the Rapora. The once green and lush landscape now looked as barren as the Geonosian plains and as pockmarked as an asteroid, but it wasn't over yet.
  10. I played a game where by some strange fluke the entire Imperial Fleet was over coruscant, a force of some 200+ ships. I didn't know this and launched an attack with 98 of my ships. You can guess what happened.
  11. 20 years downloadable gameplay!!! What would make it even more of a hit would be if you could download new games or at least demos directly to your machine as well... Thats a brilliant move by them.
  12. Maybe he thought using his actual appearance as 'evidence' for Jedi treachery would give him more support.
  13. Sorry, I hadn't had the chance to continue the series, been really busy but once again I've revived it. Star Trek vs. Star Wars: Shattered Space Part III Commander Chekotay leaned back in his seat as the shuttle automatically maneuvered to make its final jump toward Voyager. He closed his eyes and fell fast asleep. While he was asleep the sensors began to twirp softly. By the time he had awakened it was too late. * * * “Captain, we’re receiving a distress call, its Commander Chekotay,â€
  14. After watching the film for the third time I noticed that when General Grievous speaks with Sidious, sidious already has the appearance of the emperor. I'm guessing Palpatine's appearance before the lightning is nothing but a mask created by sidious to hide his appearance. When he uses the lightning he can't maintain the mirage.
  15. Another installment is up, Cain might recall it from the first time this came through.
  16. Jedi Ranks? -Youngling -Initiate -Apprentice -Jedi Knight -Jedi Consular -Jedi Guardian -Jedi Master -Jedi Council Member I'll have to see what other ranks are around, but since EAW is command why not officer ranks?
  17. * * * “Captain, we’re receiving a distress call, its Commander Chekotay,” Ensign Kim said as his status board blinked. “Onscreen,” Janeway answered quickly. The tanned black haired image of Commander Chekotay winked into existence on the view screen, “Captain, I’m afraid I’ve got a Borg Detector on my tail.” In the background the image of one of Voyager’s shuttle craft shuddered, “Get Voyager out of here.” Through the speakers another voice cut in, “Commander Chekotay can you make it to the position we’re sending?” ”Yes, Belana I can make those quadrants, but you can’t stop a Borg detector!” Janeway turned as the rear doors of the bridge slid open and Boba Fett stepped onto the bridge, “Captain, I’d like to offer my assistance.” “Alright, Chekotay make it to those quadrants we’re coming after you!” Janeway answered and turned to Boba, “Launch your ship, Paris get the flyer out there, we’ve got a Borg ship to demolish.” * * * Luke could see it out the viewport, a craft over four hundred meters tall, it looked like a group of metal plates had been slapped together with wire and engines tacked onto the rear. A green beam had locked onto the small shuttle that was fighting desperately to free itself. Slowly he looked at Belana as she starred at the threat. Slowly Mara turned to her, “I’ve activated weapons and shields, targeting array is only, I’m going to hit that beam right away can your Commander make a run for it after we hit that thing?” “Yes, Commander Chekotay the ship closing on your position is the Jade Scimitar she’ll hit the holding beam and free your ship, make a run for it once we fire,” Belana said swiftly. “Alright weapons ready, ETA sixty seconds,” Luke said as the target began to grow in his sights. “May the force be with us.” * * * The Borg detector slid threw space its holding beam firmly gripping the struggling Type 9 federation shuttle which was Chekotay’s transport. Suddenly a pair of blue streaks shot past the shuttle and into the beam. The two proton torpedoes stopped as the holding beam tried to lock onto them. The shuttle was suddenly free and cruising away. Red bolts shot pas the fleeing shuttle and into the blocky form of the Borg ship. Green detonations flashed across the ship’s hull. The ship kicked into an accelerating turn as it became aware of the new threat. The glistening form of the Jade Scimitar flashed by the federation shuttle its weapons ports blazing. A topside automated turbolaser spat fire at its opponent. The red blaze of the blast detonating against the hull of the Borg ship lit up the cockpit of the federation shuttle where Chekotay sat hunched over the controls. He punched a fist in the air as his ship rocketed away from the blaze of firing behind him, “Thank you Scimitar.” A female voice came back across the channel, “We’ll pull back right behind you and hold them off.” Chekotay looked over to see a red headed woman staring at him through the comm display, “Voyager and Slave III should be here within a few minutes.” The Jade scimitar came about and the Borg detector tried to lock onto it with a holding beam. A pair of blue proton torpedoes shot back at the blocky foes and acted as decoys for the beam which dissipated a few moments later. Onboard the ship clambered from the rhythmic roar of lasers firing at the foe. Jade sat hunched over the weapons controls and picked up a virtual reality HUD and pulled it over her eyes. Suddenly she could see the Borg ship behind them pushing to catch up. She could sense Luke’s thoughts as they roared away from the Borg ship, his constant fear for her and his desire to get back to voyager along with the coolness of a combat veteran facing combat once again. Then through her senses she could perceive them a buzzing constant awareness at the edge of her consciousness, a mind that was both many and one at the same time. She could sense the individual Borg in the vessel of course, but they just seemed to be a mirror of the mind that was the Borg. Slowly she squeezed Luke’s hand as she grasped what they were fighting. Then through the HUD she saw a series of green blasts as the Borg ship opened fire with its primary armament. The torpedoes raced for them and Luke put the ship into a corkscrew maneuver to test the torpedoes abilities. He grimaced as the torpedoes matched every one of his maneuvers, “Mara?” “Activating interceptors,” Mara answered as she punched a button in front of her. Outside the ship a large cluster of miniature missile launchers rose from the ship’s rear, a warbling sound echoed through her ears as she targeted the incoming missiles. She smiled slightly as she punched a second button. Outside a stream of miniature white missiles rocketed from their tubes. They hit one after another detonating the incoming torpedo barrage as it shot at them. The green explosions of the Borg torpedoes faded into nothingness as Mara pulled the firing triggers and a pair of blue proton torpedoes rocketed out toward their target. The Borg ship saw them coming and attempted to lock onto them with a holding beam. The torpedoes shuddered then stopped detonating as their onboard computers realized they wouldn’t hit their target. Mara cursed as she saw them detonate then smiled as she punched another button. Belana glanced over her shoulder as she pulled the trigger, “Those torpedoes won’t get through!” “Just watch,” Mara said as she felt the ejection of the torpedoes but saw no blue corona. She turned to Luke, “Shadow bombs away!” With the aid of the force the two small spinning cylinders fell behind the Jade Scimitar. They rotated slowly in space, bumping and weaving left and right as the Borg detector closed with them. They slipped through the shields with a purple flare of light then hit random green lit hull of the ship. Mara watched as a pair of explosions ripped through the largest portion of the vessel. The large panel that formed the main hull ripped free and tumbled in space. Slowly she watched as the battered tear where the hull had parted began to harden. She saw the panel begin to reform. Within thirty seconds the damage was gone except for the hulk of debris that continued to tumble near the Borg ship. Mara whistled at the speed with which the damage had disappeared. With her mind she told Luke what to do next. The stars spun outside and suddenly they were turned around facing the Borg ship. Mara thumbed down on the firing studs and the space between the two ships was suddenly alive with the glowing bolts of turbolasers. A series of explosions rocked across the forward section of the ship. Green flames crackled from where atmosphere was ignited from their impact. Suddenly a pair of blue white bolts blazed across the ships hull. Ionized panels crackled with electricity and parts of the ship went dark but the Borg recovered quickly. A series of green disruptor blasts flashed past the Jade Scimitar. Mara felt the ship shuddered as a pair of the shots impacted the hardened armor of the Scimitar’s hull. She saw sparks shoot up from the dash and saw the HUD flash into darkness. Mara pulled off the HUD and tossed it to the floor as alarms blared in the cockpit, “Weapons array offline!” Luke threw up his hands as the display darkened, “Engines and shields are out!” He whirled out of his seat as a green transporter beam lit up behind them. Suddenly the clammy skinned and armored figure of a Borg appeared before them. Luke punched a panel next to him and a lightsaber shot from the compartment. It was an elegant design that featured a crescent that was an eerie combination of the Imperial and Rebel crests. It was the saber Jaina had given them as a gift on their anniversary. He smiled coldly as he activated the violet beam and readied himself for the Borg. Mara had produced a blaster from the compartment under her chair and fired point blank into the Borg. His face was blackened by the bolt and the Borg slumped over, dead. A second then a third Borg materialized as more troops were beamed aboard. Belana leveled her phaser and fired a blast that killed its target. She fired again and watched as the beam was absorbed by an energy shield that materialized in front of it. Belana cursed and threw the phaser at the Borg. Luke strode forward confident and swung with two quick strokes that brought the Borg down, killed instantly. He turned to Artoo, “Get the shields back up!” The droid twittered and sped down the corridor. Mara followed her blaster raised with Belana crouched behind her. They came into the hanger and Mara saw a trio of Borg turn to her their targeting lasers scanning for her presence. She fired twice. The first shot burnt through the closer one’s chest dropping it to the ground. The second blast reflected off the Borg like it had hit magnetic shield. It burnt a small divot in the ceiling. Mara backed up and reached for one of the loose crates that scattered around the hanger when the lightsaber twirled into view and sliced the Borg in half dropping it to the ground. Artoo had stopped next to a power coupling and was busily working to restore shield power when a familiar voice came through Mara’s comm link, “Slave III to Jade Scimitar.” “Mara here, what do you want?” Mara answered as Belana set to work on one of the power couplings. “I’ve got Voyager coming up in my wake, we’ll put the heavy end of the hammer down on them,” Boba answered swiftly. “Be careful, its hull has regenerative abilities,” Mara answered as a shower of sparks shot from Artoo’s power coupling followed by a warble. She could hear the rumble of the generators putting the shields back on. She turned to Luke and Belana, “Voyager is coming and we can’t do anything from here, Artoo, Lucky Hand get the X-wing up and running.” She looked at Belana, “We’re going to take the X-wings out and try and give Voyager a fighting chance. Belana if you keep the shields running you’ll be safe, hold the ship, we’ll want it back.” Seconds later Mara dropped behind the controls of her X-wing and flipped on the power up sequence. Behind her, Lucky Hand, her astromech and the newest gift from Talon Karrde dropped into his socket. She pulled on a helmet and strapped in as the droid began the power checklist. Below her she saw the space tight doors slide open and the rack that held the fighter begin to tip downward. She did a final check as the racked stopped ready to launcher her into space. She keyed her comm, “Luke, ready?” “Ready,” Luke answered and suddenly his ship was out of the scimitar heading downward. Mara gritted her teeth at the shock of being flung out of the Scimitar and into space. She curved up and around and saw the Borg detector sitting in space with a holding beam locked onto the Jade Scimitar and a cutting beam futilely trying to bring down the shields. Across the comm came the audio signal she knew was coming, “Luke, Mara, we’ll show this thing who’s boss.” Mara turned in her seat to see the Firespray attack ship flash by to engage the Borg ship. Mara looked down at her sensor board and saw a series of new blips emerge from the Borg ship. She keyed her comm, “We’ve got shuttle class vessels launching from the Borg Detector.” * * * Captain Janeway sat in the command chair as she saw a series of black boxes exit from the Borg detector’s rear. She turned to Ensign Kim, “Analysis?” “They’re Borg scouts, the Enterprise reported encountering one on the surface of a planet near the neutral zone, six crew, minimal armament,” Ensign Kim reported. He looked up from his console. “Correct, they’re Borg shuttles, armed with a single pulse weapon and a lone cutting beam, very underpowered,” Seven of Nine stated swiftly. She looked at Janeway, “They’re targeting the starfighters.” “Captain Janeway, we’ll keep these busy,” Luke’s voice came through the comm. He sounded intense, busy, “Target that capital ship.” Janeway watched as the doors to the cabin slid open and Commander Chekotay stepped onto the bridge, “Commander, it’s good that you’re back.” “Thank you, Ensign Freeman I’ll take the helm.” The commander slid into the helm seat and checked the readings. “Lieutenant Paris, we’re heading in at the Detector, if you could pull some of those Borg shuttles off our allies on the way in they’d probably appreciate it,” Captain Janeway said swiftly. She watched as the Firespray attack ship opened fire on the Borg detector. It’s arsenal of weapons systems tracked across the Borg ship causing miniature detonations all across it but the target seemed just as functional as if nothing were happening. She looked at Chekotay, “Attack pattern Alpha Four.” On the screen the flash of phaser energy impacted the hull of the ship. Steam erupted from the ship’s hull for a moment then stopped as the Borg adapted to stop the attack. She put a finger to her chin, “Quantum torpedoes.” * * * Luke watched as three pulsing blue torpedoes shot from Voyager and splattered against the Borg ship. One went through the shields blowing a whole in the hull. The molten remains of the blast splattered against his shields pinging as they glanced off. He targeted the nearest Borg shuttle and felt his hair stand on end and threw the starfighter into a loop that let him evade a trail of pulse bolts from one of the Borg shuttles. He felt them in his mind and smiled slightly as he pulled their plan from their minds. Three shuttles closed on him from the front, rear, and dorsal vectors. He mentally signaled Mara, now! One of the Borg ship exploded as Mara’s torpedo found its mark and Luke corkscrewed through the expanding cloud of gas and debris. Luke lined up a shot on one of the two remaining shuttles when a glowing and sparking green orb slammed into the shuttle which detonated in a flash. Suddenly a small craft shot through the expanding explosion and on to the Borg Detector. Through his comm Luke heard Tom Paris’s whoop of glee as the flyer shot into the heart of the flight. Luke saw Mara finish off the last Borg shuttle with a quad burst of laser fire then break toward the Borg detector. They accelerated toward the engagement. Luke glanced to Mara as she formed up on his wing, “Shadow bombs?” ”I could try it, a pity your B model doesn’t have them,” Mara answered swiftly. He could imagine her smiling behind the controls. “Who says I don’t have shadow bombs,” Luke answered then flicked the comm to Artoo, “Set up for shadow bombs.” “So Artoo is going to program them to be instant shadow bombs?” Mara said slowly. She shrugged then kicked on her thrusters closing on the blocky target. She launched the bomb then curved away as the bomb detonated against the ship’s shields. He could hear Maras exasperation, “Damn it.” Luke moved in to attack and fired his two torpedoes. They didn’t glow or ignite their engines as they headed for the target. Luke had his instant shadow bombs, thanks to Artoo. The two conical shells headed for their target. Suddenly they went through the shield then exploded one after another to rip open a huge portion of the hull, “Yes!” * * * Janeway saw the flash as the proton torpedoes detonated and turned to Tuvok, “Target that point all weapons.” The ship rocked as a holding beam caught her vessel. The ship began to vibrate and shudder as a cutting beam caught the vessel. “Shields at fifty percent,” Tuvok stated as the ship continued to shudder and lights dimmed. Ensign Kim looked up from his display, “Another ship coming in!” “Identify,” Janeway commanded as she watched the Borg Detector swing around to fire its forward torpedoes. The glowing orbs shot from the ship and were suddenly intercepted by a shower of miniature white missiles. The Jade Scimitar shot by the detonating torpedoes. * * * “That’s my ship!” Mara yelled as she watched the Jade Scimitar blaze into the engagement. She flipped on her comm gear, “Belana what are you doing!” Luke tuned out the lecture and saw a query appear on his console. He frowned and flipped a switch to monitor the older New Republic frequencies. A stream of encoded transmissions washed across his headset. Suddenly he felt his cockpit go dark and he looked up toward the system’s star. There he saw an enormous shape cross in front of it, “Umm Mara.”
  18. All the scenes Stargate rips straight from Star Wars... They allways plant a joke about Star Wars in them as well. My favorite one was when O'Neal and Tealc go over to Carter's with Pizza and a movie. You can guess which movie it is... O'Neal: "Hey Carter." Carter: "Whats this?" O'Neal: "Pizza and a Movie. Star Wars, Tealc seen it what seven eight times?" Tealc: "That is correct O'Neal."
  19. I agree wth the Matrix but not the Star Trek, Star Trek has had its own share of good stories albiet they only occur occasionally. Perhaps after seeing the movie for the second time it would get better, it didn't. I figured out another thing which bothered me about Episode III. Natalie Portman's Character is now in her late twenties, but she acts like a pregnant sixteen year old. Her character seems to have reversed in terms of maturity and is actuall less mature in Episode III then II. I must retract a statement I made earlier, Vader is restrained correctly during the entire scene, its only in the trailer that his fists are level with where his shoulders are. Perhaps I can show you how I think the opening battle sequence could have been made better... The sequence begins as it does in the film with Anakin and Obiwan entering the engagement above Courscant... Anakin called out as his sensor display lit up, "There's Grievous's command ship. The one thats covered with vulture droids." "I see it," Obiwan spins his starfighter as a wing of droidstarfighters and diagonas move to engage, "Commander, form your squadron behind us." "Roger General Kenobi," The clone starfighters form up behind the two Jedi, "Set S-foils to attack position." "Anakin, go right through them," Obi-wan called across the radio as he switches his s-foils to attack position and begins firing at the oncoming swarm of droid starfighters. Skywalker accelerated, throwing more power to his engines and slipped in beside his master, "I'm right with you." The Droid starfighters scream toward them firing. Several break after the first past and swing around to come in behind the two Jedi. The clones blast them as well as a number of the oncoming droids. A Confederate Cruiser maneuvers into a blocking position in front of the Jedi starfighters. Obi-wan sees it, "Uh oh. General Tarkin, are you seeing this?" "Yes General, more ships are maneuvering to block your path. We've got starfighter launches from the Trade Federation Ships. Commander, suppress the cruiser's fire." "Roger General, Squad, braking thrusters, attack pattern Alpha." The Clone Starfighters decelerate and begin firing on the cruiser. The Anti-starfighter defenses begin to return fire and one after another of the starfighters is blasted in the return fire and by the starfighters which are maneuvering to engage. The Jedi Starfighters slip past the cruiser unnoticed. You understand what I'm saying, putting strategy and Tarkin into the engagement would be easy, I guess Lucas was just lazy.
  20. I can't help it... so tempting. E VII-IX: The Adventures of Ben Skywalker and the Rapora Wars.
  21. According to the Essential Guide to Characters Ki-Adi-Mundi was only of the rank of Jedi Knight until shortly before AOTC. I'll be the first to admit that the Original Trilogy has its own share of writting problems, I mean, come on Ewoks? Most of the Original Trilogy's seeming grandier is our own imbellishment. What makes the Prequeals seem so bad, their competition. If you looked at other films released in the 1970s Star Wars stands alone. If you look at today... Lets just say Lucas has competition now. LOTR, StarGate, Sci-Fi's remake of Dune. Every one of them competes with Star Wars, no wonder if you compare Star Wars to say LOTR it falls flat on its face. *SM hunkers down behind a pillbox and awaits a storm of weapons fire.
  22. Hello Cain, I've been a wee bit busy for the last couple weeks with my Freshman year of College coming to a close. I'll try and get back to ST vs. SW as soon as possible. Maybe I'll have something for you tomorrow. Oh and it took me about an hour and a half to write each part.
  23. Its to late Mad, Star Wars has already been trekified. It just has used a different device to continue on. Star Trek has around 10 films, Star Wars has 6. Star Trek has had 5 TV series, Lucas is planning one and there were 2 previously. Star Trek has had 0 made for TV movies, Star Wars had 1 (The Ewok Adventure). Star Trek has fewer and more poorly written books. Star Trek has had on average worse computer games with a few exceptions (Bridge commander, Elite Force...) So guess what, Star Wars is already trekified.
  24. It's called Tech Stagnation. According to Lucas the Star Wars Universe's technology hasn't really changed in thousands of years. KOTOR finally explained the Mandalorian Culture though. Think Samurai.
  25. Well, considering the amount I have to say and the fact I want to give the other members of the community the chance to throw rocks at me I thought a new topic would be best. I would also like to note that I have no qualms with spoilers in this forums and if you haven't seen the movie you might want to back up. Now onto the critic... Actor Performance: The actors playing both Kenobi and Palpatine pull through and succeed in delivering remarkable performances. Still they manage to avoid stealing the show when they are involved. It's clear that Kenobi is the hero of the film despite Lucas's portrayal of Anakin as the hero in his statements. Both Natalie Portman and Hayden Christenson demonstrate an improvement but they're still left in the dust compared to the others. The 'sentimental' scenes aren't quite as painful and more of it is clearly due to the director's writing not the actors themselves. Christopher Lee's character doesn't have a chance to really develop any further which seems to be an incredible waste of an actor. Technology: I may surprise you by what I'm saying but the film actually provides a clearer link to the less advanced nature of technology in the preqeals. The starships clearly are lessed advanced in many ways and this is quite well demonstrated by one of my favorite scenes in the opening sequences of the battle over Coruscant. You see the crew of the ship loading and firing their weapons out weapons ports on the ship's side. This is reminiscent of the way sailships used to batter away at each other. In the OT these emplacements have been replaced by turreted equipment which seems to have been much more effective. Still there are limited explanations as to why the prequeals feature starfighters with missile technology as advanced as they demonstrate. Battle Sequences: While several of the battle sequences are quite impressive visually its clear that those that created them didn't take the time to plan them out. Tactics and strategy seem to play no part in the engagements. Everything seems to be a wild melee witch missiles and blaster fire going everywhere. There is no progression from one stage of the engagement to another. The OT displayed a remarkable ability to show tactics and strategy in the fights which took place, this film like all the Prequeals is clearly lacking in that regard. Pacing: Oh dear, Lucas tries to go hyperwar. Everything happens far to quickly in my opinion and most of the action seems to be placed at the very start and from the middle to the end. The film noticably slows down when it switches to the scenes attempting to shore up the Anakin-Padme relationship. The action sequences should have been spread out even if it required an additional hour. Several scenes should have been longer: The talk between Padme and Obi-wan about Anakin's fall, Palpatines declaration of an Empire, Yoda and Palpatine's duel, Obi-wan and Anakin's duel, Dooku's fall, and the Battle for Kashyyk. Each individual sequence in a scene should have been longer. There should have been at least five minutes between swipes simply to engage the audience more in the situation. Continuality Errors: Ooops... Anakin states that the council has never in its history had a Jedi on it without becoming a master upon being placed there. Error- In Episode III one of Council Members is a Knight. When Vader is first sat upright his hands are shackled up by his shoulders, in the next shot their down by his waste. Individual Scene Critics: Opening Combat Engagement: The Battle of Coruscant: Despite the enormous mass of ships in the engagement the characters never seem to be under all that much threat. Sure they had to shake a pair of missiles and some droids, but I've got to ask. Where are all the CIS starfighters? Surely they'd be engaging in dogfights all the way to their target. Secondly, who is in command of the mission? We'd care more if more characters were under threat so put another Jedi Council member in charge of the fleets actions or...better yet. Put Tarkin in command of the Op. The Dooku vs. Anakin Duel: It's way to short and one sided. Dooku should have lasted a lot longer, and maybe it would be even better if he said a couple more lines! The Battle of Kashyyk: We all know why they put this in, to show Chewie but guess what he's got one arf and thats it. The battle should be longer and Chewie should have an actual role to play instead of just a name drop by Yoda. The droids are launching an amphibious assault, perhaps lucas could look at Saving Private Ryan to pull in what the battle would be like for them. The Anakin vs Obi-wan Duel: Length, almost right. My main problem is that the characters should be saying something, we need to see the friendship really breaking down. Surely Anakin would at least taunt Obi-wan. The Yoda vs Sidious Duel: Yoday said in ROTJ, "Beware the powers of the Emperor or suffer your father's fate you will." Or something along those lines. Well Palpatine didn't demonstrate any exceptional powers. He's got great TK and Lightning but we've seen those before. Yoda escapes mostly unscaved. The willy little man ends up with a draw. Yoda doesn't seem to be beaten which is what we should see for him to be forced into exhile. Other Remarks: Generally with some rewritting the story could be on par with LOTR, if someone else was behind the reigns. The possibility of real heavy emotional weight was visible but not used. The 'sentimental' scenes stumbled and fell and Obi-wan's friendship isn't developed much further then from AOTC. Nice try Lucas. Oh, and I didn't complain abotu the renanimating midiclorians because they fit so well into Rapora Wars as did the remarks about 'misreading' the prophecy.
