  1. Um, I'd hate to break this to you but Home One had even less offensive weaponary then the standard Mon Cal Cruiser. It really was more of a carrier then an actual combat starship.
  2. Its not dead, it just got started... I agree it will be better to start off with the vehicles (These seem to be constructed 1 by 1 in both the space and on the ground) JI. As for the time period, we don't know the victory conditions, if its conquer all the galaxy without having to capture the Vader and Palpatine I see no problem with extending the Time Frame to include the entire Galactic Civil War, from The Corellian Treaty to the Ceasefire with Pelleaon. So starships: What all should we have for starships... Here's an idea, if worlds give bonuses we could set it up so that ships built by that world are considerably cheaper then if they're purchased otherwise. Sort of like having to buy a ship on the black market instead of simply building it. We could also scale it so that larger ships get a bigger cut in cost then smaller ships. This could be vital if we wanted to implement the effect of large scale corporations affiliating with sides during the war... KDY, Rendili Star Drives, Mon Calamari, Loronar Systems... We'd want to rehardpoint (And probably remodel) all the ships in the game... Give the ISD its enormous punch and the Mon Calamari its measely 48 Taim & Bak Turbolasers. Make scales realistic with the enormous 1.6km ISD dwarfing Corvettes and the like.
  3. Whats that startrek quote... "I hate Temporal Mechanics." Read the twin paradox, time stops at the speed of light. For a conscious being traveling at the speed of light there wouldn't be any travel. You'd arrive at your destination at the same moment you left. Aging stops, atomic clocks stop, and so on... Time doesn't flow the same everywhere, it is influenced by both Gravity and Velocity. I mean how do you measure time? A clock, a watch, the time it takes for light to travel x. According to Einstein only the last option reveals the true nature of time.
  4. I like Spielburg, and despise Lucas. Funny that they're friends, maybe George should have let Steve direct the movies.
  5. Just don't include the actual exe. They need that to read those other files, don't they?
  6. We all know that there will be a realism mod, and everyone has their own idea of realism. This topic is a place for us to get together and figure out what we want, what may be possible, and what "Reality" we'll use for the game. Here's some basic ideas for units and what they'd do: Stormtrooper Rifle Team: Composition: 6 Stormtroopers armed with Blastech E-11 Rifles. Effective range: 150 Meters Sight: Medium Speed: Low Accuracy: Medium Stormtrooper Recon Team Composition: 3 Stormtroopers armed with Blastech E-11 Rifles. Effective Range: 150 Meters Sight: High Speed: High Accuracy: Medium Stormtrooper Command Team: Composition: 3 Stormtrooper Officers armed with Blastech E-11 Rifles Effective Range: 150 Meters Sight: Medium Speed: Medium Accuracy: Low Special Abilities: Increases accuracy, rate of fire, and sight range of all stormtroopers within 100 meters. Stormtrooper Repeating Blaster Team: Composition: 2 Stormtroopers armed with Blastech T-21 Repeating Blaster Effective Range: 150 Meters Sight: Medium Speed: Slow Accuracy: High I like the idea of adding command teams that can be built to increase the potential for local units. I'd also love it if it was possible for a squad to be composed of more then one type of trooper. That way we'd be able to make actual squads with a mixture of weapons. What do you guys think?
  7. Sorry Cain, I prefer the Close Combat series for World War II tactical and strategic gameplay.
  8. Oh Dear, we have a scientific debate appearing. Alright, lets summarize what you're saying... 1. Light is a Particle 2. Light (The Particle) travels at different speeds 3. Time is a constant Now, things are about to get confusing... Here's what observations made by physcists states. 1 and 2: Light acts both as a particle (Photon) and as a wave. Photons and neutrinos remain extremely close to or on the barrier referred to as the speed of light. There is debate as to whether photons have mass and neutrinos appear to have mass but for a particle to have mass it must travel slower then the speed of light. Why? E=mc2 or Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. So, when a particle reaches the speed of light it is converted to energy. What does this mean... Well, it means that the speed of light actually might not be exactly the same as the speed of a photon. Otherwise other known effects including photon pressure wouldn't exist. Perhaps the Speed of Light should be renamed... 3. Time isn't a constant but is relative to the speed and acceleration of the observer. This is an observable fact and is indisputable in modern physics in Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, and M Theory (aka String Theory). This effect, known as time dialation, couldn't be proven until the invention of the atomic clock and jet engine due to just how small the effect is even at transonic speeds. By some calculations the Apollo astronaughts only gained a tenth of a second to their lifespans through their trip to the moon. By using atomic clocks in fast flying aircraft scientists have observed this effect which had been predicted almost fifty years before by Einstien. Time is a part of the fabric of space itself, (Ever hear of Spacetime) and as part of modern physics it can be warped by gravity and velocity. This is what creates the unusual and well known effects of a black hole. It also clarifies the nature of gravity and makes it so the force isn't an instantaneous force throughout the universe but one governed by the speed of light and dictator of the warping of space. You think Relativity is bad, I could be really evil and start explaining Quantum Mechanics and String Theory.
  9. Ahem, Albert Einstein would disagree completely with what you said. There is only one constant to the universe, and that is c. The Speed of light. As an object approaches the speed of light time slows down, mass increases, distances contract, and mass begins to convert to energy. You really need to think about relativity bub. Will "Hyperspace" Engines ever arrive probably not. While there are some theoretical means to travel faster then light, "Hyperspace" is not considered a viable means of travel simply because, as far as we can tell, hyperspace doesn't exist. The most likely forms of faster then light travel come through string theory and wormhole mechanics, not warp drives or hyperspace engines.
  10. SM smiles to himself, "Guess what, Star Trek got it wrong. Anti-protons do combust when placed in contact with protons but they do not release the same amount of energy as anti-electrons do. Anti-electrons therefore explode whereas anti-protons crackle and burn." Go ahead and look it up... and by the way Torpedoes in Star Trek use both anti-protons and anti-electrons in their warheads. The name of the Torpedo, (Photon/Quantum) is dictated by its type of targeting computer.
  11. Involved or not, the majority of the people that entered Texas were American. Consider that an American senator went to fight alongside the defenders of the Alamo and you realize that American Manifest destiny. As to whether we occupied Mexico...we did go ahead and steal over a 1/3rd of all Mexican possesions. Compared to what we did to other nations Mexico has taken the most lasting damage. Even nuking Japan didn't slow them down much compared to Mexico, hello third world.
  12. I think McKay was speed reading, remember Carter speaks slower so that O'Neil *might* understand her.
  13. Obi was in his mid twenties in Episode I, your numbers are off.
  14. I second that!!!
  15. I heard the game... Stargate Alliance? Should be out on computer before EAW. I love Stargate and am thinking about writting and submitting a story. They're supposed to open up for submissions pretty soon. I'll probably start hammering that down tomorrow. Taking a page from the Rogue Squadron series, anyone up to hear about the SGC's hard luck unit, SG-13 (First shown in the Episode entitled Heroes Parts I and II) lead by Major Dave Dixon?
  16. The Rapora Wars was originally concieved of as a possible third trilogy to the Star Wars Universe. It also attempts to reconcile many of the clashes between the EU and Star Wars canon. It focuses in on an invasion and the continual struggle between good and evil, light and dark as represented by the Jedi/GFFA and Sith/Rapora. If you become really lost you can read the entirety of the Rapora Introductory RPG, but I wouldn't suggest it. The war has been broken up into several fronts, the Unknown Regions, the GFFA, the Empire, Diplomatic, and the Jedi Front. Each one is different from another but interconnected. If the Empire falls repercussions are felt in each of the other threads and so on. You've got some choices... First you can choose which Campaign / Subplot to enter... The Vaathkree Affair (Diplomatic Affair, no real warfare. Suggested for advanced players only.) Balance of Empire (An internal struggle for power within the Empire) Breaking the Vagaari (An attempt to rid the Rapora of one of their allies, the Vagaari) Stand Firm (A large scale combat campaign dedicated to the GFFA's attempt to contain the Rapora short of the Hyperspace route known as the Hydian Way) The Cycle of the Force (Campaign for force users and backstory of the Rapora. You must request permission to join in the OOC Forum.) Then you must choose a side and a faction: Balance of Empire: Light Side... The Imperial Remnant (A autocratic nation, the Imperial Remnant once headed by the late Grand Admiral Pelleaon is now lead by Grand Admiral Oreton who is loyal to the cause against the Rapora.) The Empire of the Hand (The Remnants of Thrawn's Fiefdom in the Unknown Regions) Dark Side... The Greater Empire Movement (A political organization within the Empire advocating a defection to the Raporan side) The Rapora (An ancient race of force sensitive warriors whose history spans back millenia before the Old Republic. They are lead by the Timeless One, a being concieved of and created by the dark side of the force. In an earlier incarnation he was Emperor Palpatine.) The Sith (After the end of the Darth Sidious it was thought that the sith were once and for all extinct. This turns out not to be the case, disregarding the two sith rule Darth Sidious created training academies based on the Raporan worlds and has created a vast army of these new sith warriors.) The Vagaari (A militant race once thought dead, the Vagaari have resurfaced as the pawns of the Rapora. Apparently occupied and enslaved by a puppet regime, they are used by the Rapora as cannon fodder.) The Aklasp (A race of silicon based life form, they are among the rarest and most deadly beings in the galaxy. Impervious to blaster fire and capable of living for millenia they remember and honor an ancient alliance between themselves and the Rapora from when they shared rule of the galaxy. Breaking the Vagaari Light Side... The Galactic Federation of Free Alliances (The newest incarnation of the ideals of the Republic and the direct descendent of the New Republic, the GFFA controls the vast majority of the Galaxy but is constantly forced to divert its forces to peacekeeping operations. Fortunately for the GFFA, its leadership is capable and determined to hold off the Rapora) The United Defense Alliance (The brainchild and personal government of the late Grand Admiral Thrawn, the UDA was created for the express purpose of defeating the Rapora and accepts volunteers from all races for the fight, including defectors from both the Rapora and Vagaari) The Vagaari Liberty Coalition (A loose coalition of Vagaari dissidents hoping to free their world from Raporan domination) Dark Side... The Rapora (An ancient race of force sensitive warriors whose history spans back millenia before the Old Republic. Apparently occupied and enslaved by a puppet regime, they are used by the Rapora as cannon fodder.) Stand Firm Light Side... The Galactic Federation of Free Alliances (The newest incarnation of the ideals of the Republic and the direct descendent of the New Republic, the GFFA controls the vast majority of the Galaxy but is constantly forced to divert its forces to peacekeeping operations. Fortunately for the GFFA, its leadership is capable and determined to hold off the Rapora) The Mandalorian Tribal Empire (For centuries the only known example of Mandalorian technology had been the creations of MandalMotors and the Mandalorian Remnant has wanted it that way. Now with their empire rebuilt the Mandalorians have found their hopes for returning to Galactic importance and respect dashed by the launch of the Raporan invasion. Now they have decided to fight side by side with their neighbers against the invader.) Dark Side... The Rapora (An ancient race of force sensitive warriors whose history spans back millenia before the Old Republic. The Aklasp (A race of silicon based life form, they are among the rarest and most deadly beings in the galaxy. Impervious to blaster fire and capable of living for millenia they remember and honor an ancient alliance between themselves and the Rapora from when they shared rule of the galaxy. Once you've chosen a campaign and faction, create a character and post it in the OOC Forum. Then you can jump right in and introduce yourself or one of us (Probably me) can introduce your character for you.
  17. So does Anti-protons + protons = boom or was it Anti-electrons + electrons = boom? PS. I know the answer being the Science nut which I am.
  18. Heck, The reason I haven't posted ST vs SW more often is that I've gotten bored with it, but guys keep asking for more.
  19. Been there, done that. The Raporan particle shields are strong enough to deflcet any attempt to ram their larger cruisers and their smaller ones are fast enough to avoid being hit. The Rapora don't use turbolasers but a highly advanced form of plasma weaponary. The two Supercannons used on the Kar Lur Class can kill a ship with ease and are only slightly less powerful then a low grade superlaser. The weapons on their fighters are equivalent in punch to a heavy turbolaser, which can penetrate the armor on a suncrusher. We also used a full squadron of starfighters which utilized the same form of armor as the suncrusher engage the Rapora over... was it Kuat or Fondor? They got beaten pretty badly, fighting force sensitive pilots can be such a drag.
  20. Actually the Sun Crusher wouldn't be of much use, its designed to destroy stars, not ships. Plus Raporan Plasma weaponary is probably strong enough to crack that armor which it has. We've already utilized a number of fighters with that sort of armor and the Rapora managed to hold their own. The Vagaari are an advanced spacefaring race from the Unknown Regions. They're imperial and piratical in nature and dominated local space for a large period of time until the Rapora invaded and supplanted their government with a puppet. This has fueled a resentment within the Vagaari populace and Vagaari Warriors can be found on both sides. Despite this the vast majority has remained loyal due to propaganda and the promise of control of additional worlds after the war ends. Vagaari are roughly humanoid with marbled rusty brown skin and two mouths placed vertically above each other. Thier technology is specialized in biological means through the breeding of Wolvkils (A form of War Dog), suspended animation, and bioengineered weapons. Vagaari are actively incorporating shared technologies between the Rapora and Vagaari into their next generation of vessels.
  21. The comm unit crackled to life in the nearly empty cabin of the shuttle, "Shuttle Valorium, please come in..." The comm hissed silently for a moment before the voice returned, "Shuttle Valorium, please respond... They're not responding sir..." A second quieter voice echoed in the cabin, "Very well, bring it in." Through the cockpit canopy the hull of an Imperial Destroyer slid to a stop above the craft. A few moments later the ship lurchedinto the landing bay, its wings grinding against the floor before one of the joints failed, toppling the craft on its side. There was no reception committee awaiting it, no fanfare, only just a group of technical specialists ordered to check for passengers and records. They scrambled onboard, boaring a hole into the canopy for direct entry. Then the lieutenant in charge slipped through the borehole and into the canopy. Behind him the door slid open and an odor hit him life a wall. He turned in time to see the littered bodies, and one woman quaking on the ground. * * * Admiral Oreton sat back in his cabin onboard his command ship when his personal holocomm whirred to life. An officer wearing the badge of a fleet captain appeared before him, "Admiral Oreton, we have new information regarding Commodore Dorja." Oreton immediately straightened at those words, "What sort of information." "She's alive Admiral, but... I'm afraid she isn't all there anymore. She's not lucid, and the medics can't find anything wrong with her." "Has she said anything?" "Yes, she keeps saying he's alive, over and over again." The Captain shrugged, "Sir, I'm taking her to Serenno, if you'd like to meet us there." "Alright, keep her isolated. Make her as comfortable as you can, and keep her under watch. There's no telling what the Rapora could have done to her."
  22. Unfortunately at the end of the series the Qella turned out to be only hybernating and the planet was heated to the point of achieving a temperate atmosphere. I think you're going to need to change your post somewhat, or maybe we should just ignore it.
  23. It had been a week since the service for the fallen at Ord Mantell. A week in which offensive operations had ceased and each side had taken stock. For the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, it had been a week of national shock. The loss of some many forces and lives had frightened the populace, and it had also brought home the reality of another war. It had also been a week for the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances to make plans and formulate a true strategy for the conduct of the war. Something which hadn't really existed up until now. Now Cal Omas was hunched over displays of the situation in the Federation War Room, and conferring with the best minds he could gather. Kenth Hammer could feel the determination flowing from the Commander and Chief. The knowledge of what the war was now becoming and his choices might have weighed down most others, but now Cal was displaying the resilience that had carried him through the Vong and Killik invasions. But Kenth knew that evend determination had limits, "Supreme Chancellor, we need to reorginize our forces and establish a true set of war aims." "War aims," Cal answered with a shrug, "We're on the defensive right now Master Hammer, what we need is a plan for holding on to what we have." Cal glanced over to Admiral Kre'Fey busying himself with a set of hyperspace routing maps, "Admiral, we need to establish a defensive line." "I agree councilor, but should it be a defense in depth or a point defense?" Kenth shook his head, "A defense in depth, we need to be able to counterattack with overwhelming numbers in order to defeat any Raporan lodgement." "I concur, therefore our best course of action will be to make the main line of resistance along the Hydian Way. Our forward worlds will act to delay any forces launched against them until reinforcements from the way can arrive." Kre'Fey smiled, "We'll also be able to quickly and efficiently manuever forces from one side of the galaxy to the other in the event of contact." "Good, I'll cut the orders immediately, 1st and 3rd fleets will take up positions from Hoth to Yag'dhul, while the 2nd, 4th, and 5th fleets will be deployed from Duro to the Imperial Border. We'll keep the 6th in reserve around Coruscant."
  24. Jacen Solo sat in the scortched ruins of one of the great valleys of Zonoma Sekot. Through the force he could feel the emotions of all those around him, their thoughts and feelings. Behind him he felt her coming, "So they released you?" "Yes," Danni answered as she shivered in the cold. A slight smile flickered across her lips as she saw Jacen turn to look back at her, "Any word from the front?" "We lost Ord Mantell, and Thrawn is dead. Not much more then that. Kenth Hammer is heading to fleet headquarters." Jacen shrugged, "Ulan Shai and my parents should get here shortly." "Good," Danni answered quietly as she dropped down next to him on scorched earth. The smile quickly disappeared as she saw the desolation around her. Still she tried to carry on the conversation, "How about Jaina?" "Last I heard she's back with the fleet," Jacen shrugged, "She'll be alright, she always has been tough." "That she has."
  25. Or you could read a Stargate novel, they're out now! (But they're better on TV then on the page)
