Well the main problem with Rebellion is that it has a Windows system GUI (interface) and this is highly unusual especially with a very poor tutorial. So it takes you a lot of time to learn that darn game. Without manual it will take you 1-2 weeks to get some satisfaction out of it. Anyway ... in terms of difficulty and diversity SWR is not more complex than Rome TW in fact Rome has more stats to remember than SWR. I personally know extremly well 3 RTS games: RTW, SWR, EAW ... and EAW only with extensive modding can equal one of the other two. The problem with EAW as someone else once said it is that it seriously lacks strategic depth ex: Not enough units, no gameplay variables on the GUI interface (the game is to fast paced), no diplomacy, only medium/low quallity models/textures, etc. I remember an event from these days. One of my friends with who I used to play SWR many long hours in the past (I lured him to learn that game in 2003/4) said that EAW sucks and they should have made a SWR 2. He didn't even finished EAW... now that friend is from my country but he has similar conclusions like Igor. And this was a real pain to me to have that home. It hurt like hell. The point is that once you play SWR and learn that game it's almost impossible to like EAW more than 2-3 hours even if you are a SW fan. I think that Delphi-PG didn't played SWR more than 1-2 days and to have a firm grasp of that game you need at least 2 weeks even more and a lot of MP. Or maybe it was Joe who missed to sense the good things from SWR and to implement them in EAW... we will never know. Bottom line is even now I somehow feel the need to mod SWR as much as EAW. I always considered that EAW will smash SWR to bits but this is not the case. The case is that most of the EAW producers and game designers ignored up to the end many good RTS aspects that could have been taken from SWR since anyway some SWR aspects were used in EAW. EAW was originally designed to have diplomacy and more units and many other things but somehow or someone decided at one moment that it is too much. This is a classic dev error mainly due to bad QA sometimes (*my opinion). The QA tends to concentrate more on MP so the MP (due to their feedback) influences the SP. Now if you have this and a producer or the sales also gets the idea that less means better since we will get to do an expansion or even an EAW 2 ... you then have a mix of ideeas that will go for the simplest form of the developed game. Generally even 1 year ago our feedback was to late to influence significantly EAW so we could not do much to change for the better EAW in terms of strategic depth and game features. The idea is simple - SWR has survived 8 years and it is still played and modded... EAW will not survive with the current game features more than 2 years max. SWR will continue to be a very good RTS game until EAW decides to remove all the bad things from SWR and keep the good ones - there is no other way. And 8 years from now SWR will still exist in fact it will continue to exist until EAW will deliver the killer blow. So in the end nobody says that EAW is not a good game … it is. But not more than that … just a good game. SWR is a legend and it will remain a living one. EAW still has the potential to "kill" SWR and I'm sure that many excellent mods will help achive that goal. Personally I will prefer that Petroglyph will do that and not the mods. A better realism orientated balance in the game will help a lot (something to slow down the gameplay in SP). Better textures and scale will help also ... etc. Any of this things are minor changes that mainly necesitate game design work and QA testing. So its up to Petro if they still want to make a Legend out of EAW or if they are ok with a just good game. For those who have no clue what SWR is (since it is 8 years old) here is a link to a total conversion: http://pff.swrebellion.com/index.php?topic=409.0

MrHide is an old programmer from TTO. He has been given admin powers to enable him to design and make a new petro like skin for the Forum. I will let him introduce him self. Thanks, Cain

Nice TC indeed This reminds me of the old days when I wanted to upload my TC. I am not advising you to try asking Evaders for help from what I see he is as disinterested now regarding new TCs like it was back then. No matter what I try to make him more attracted to SWR TCs it fails. He has not played SWR in ages and I don't think he has ever installed a SWR mod. He can prove me wrong if he desires but I feel that he is locked somewhere in the past and he can't evolve into a new Evaders that is more adaptive, open and communicative. Btw I think in the last two years I developed a habit in buzzing Evaders and trying to change him. So my advise will be to try to reach Stratus or Jedi Igor. EDIT: You will also need a story for your TC to improve the PR like this : http://pff.swrebellion.com/index.php?topic=409.0

So then ... If you guys want to debate something be my guest and start topics here. I'm quite interested to see how you analyze and feel about the major or minor sci-fi stories.

This sucks - who cares about Lukes 20 years on Tatooine. They should have gived me some Sith wars or Vong. Yet again G.Luc since is old takes silly decissions.

Re: EAW: Warlord - 7.0 - Gold Total Mod Expansion
Cain replied to Cain's topic in EAW Mods General Workshop
How about this - btw remember that this mod was made on EAW 1.0 At the moment I wait for the 1.03 patch to be able to mod the latest xml's. Download link: http://pff.swrebellion.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2622.0;attach=486 Btw - Zarrin is not yet inside the mod there is no point in adding him now since with every patch the xmls change so I prefer to wait for the last one. -

StarGate SG-1 - Series 9 (*spolier discussion)
Cain replied to Cain's topic in Sci-Fi Ascended Academy
Well maybe I am late with 9/20 episode but I just managed to download it. We don't have Sci-Fi channel in my country from what I know. So anyway back to the subject : What the hell has happened in episode 20 ? I mean they all died. PS. Both Atlantis and SG-1 are contracted to do new series. Look what I found: SEASON TEN: "Season 10: major revelations, an emotional loss, a burgeoning threat, a quest, several players enter the mix..." — Joseph Mallozzi, Aust Sci Fi interview, December 9. "We do have a major arc upcoming in season 10 involving a new character. It has yet to be cast." — Joseph Mallozzi, GW Q&A, January 21. "I don’t know what is in store for S10. I know that I won’t be in all 20 eps of SG1. I do also know that I will be doing some crossover episodes in Atlantis. So again I don’t know for sure how many of each I will be in, but the majority will be SG1." — Amanda Tapping, Live Chat with The Amanda Tapping Club, January 16. "I'm contracted for 16 episodes this season," Shanks says. "I'll probably be out of the fourth and fifth episodes and two others later on." — Michael Shanks, Michael Shanks Online Interview with Michael Shanks, January 2006. FILMING SCHEDULE (February 20-October 10): It takes, on average, seven days to film an episode: 10.01 "Flesh and Blood": February 20-28 March 1-9 10.03 "The Pegasus Project": March 10-20 March 21-29 March 30-April 7 Episode Order is subject to change while the season is in production. 10.01 "Flesh And Blood" Vala gives birth to her child while the space battle with the Ori’s invasion force rages in the Milky Way Galaxy. 10.02 "Morpheus" The team goes off-world and ends up in a mess of trouble. Meanwhile, Landry is faced with having to decide whether or not Vala can be trusted to remain at the SGC. 10.03 "The Pegasus Project" An Ascended Ancient breaks her vow of non-interference to give Daniel vital information that could make the difference in the fight against the Ori. 10.04 "Insider" (working title) (Written by: Alan McCullough; Directed by: _) "I'm contracted for 16 episodes this season," Shanks says. "I'll probably be out of the fourth and fifth episodes and two others later on." — Michael Shanks, Michael Shanks Online Interview with Michael Shanks, January 2006. "Alan handed in his best script to date: Insider. Stargate Command is going to have their hands full juggling - well, what does the average person juggle, right? - in this one." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 14 Blog. (Most likely, the SGC will be juggling several of Ba'al's clones.) "Alan will tackle episode 4 which sees an old enemy rearing his ugly heads." — Joseph Mallozzi, November 28 Blog. 10.05 "Uninvited" (working title) (Written by Damian Kindler; Directed by: _) "I'm contracted for 16 episodes this season," Shanks says. "I'll probably be out of the fourth and fifth episodes and two others later on." — Michael Shanks, Michael Shanks Online Interview with Michael Shanks, January 2006. "Damian is working on the rewrite of Uninvited, episode 5." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 14 Blog. "Damian was in Friday and today to break his episode, 5, the one about the ill-fated getaway." — Joseph Mallozzi, November 28 Blog. 10.06 200TH EPISODE (unknown working title) (Written by: Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi, Paul Mullie, (Martin Gero); Directed by: _) As far as the rest of the season, episode 6 is the 200th episode, a reality Michael finds unbelievable. As far as that episode, from what he’s heard, it’s going to be not unlike Wormhole Extreme in that they’ll be taking a few potshots at themselves. But the audience will be in on it, too. And it may involve the appearance of a face we’ve missed for some time. — reported from Michael Shanks Interview in SciFi Talk Podcast, early March. When asked about whether or not the 200th episode will include an Atlantis crossover, Mallozzi replied, "It will be strictly an SG-1 episode." (GW Q&A, January 21) "We've got the 200th episode to work on and Alan's heist episode, and the SG-1 mid-season two-parter that already has the visual effects department salivating." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 19 Blog. "Rob suggested we try to break the big 200th episode sometime next week. Brad already has a rough draft of his piece." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 14 Blog. "And, of course, there's the big 200th episode that will offer up a little something for everyone. It'll be an episode unlike any we've ever produced, both in terms of format and content." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 2 Blog. "Brad has been working on the third episode of SG-1 as well as that wild (some will no doubt say "crazy") idea for the 200th episode, getting on it early as it will take some time to prepare for." — Joseph Mallozzi, December 28 Blog. "No planned cameos [of the writers, producers] for the 200th episode. Not yet anyway." — Joseph Mallozzi, GateWorld Q&A, December 22. "As for the Furlings - how's this for a newsflash - we may finally find out about them in season 10. Don't laugh. We've seriously discussed the possiblity." — Joseph Mallozzi, GateWorld Q&A, December 22. "Episode 6 will be, of course, our 200th episode and we've tossed around some great, albeit insane, ideas on this one." — Joseph Mallozzi, November 28 Blog. 10.07 "Counter-Strike" (working title) (Written by: Joseph Mallozzi/Paul Mullie; Directed by: _) In answer to whether or not Daniel will be showing more patience and compassion toward Vala in Season Ten, Joseph Mallozzi stated, "There are some really nice moments along these lines in Morpheus, Counter-Strike, and Memento Mori." (SG1Solutions, January 20) "Finished the rewrites on Morpheus and Counter-Strike and will be reviewing them both this weekend." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 19 Blog. "This early, I can't assure anyone of anything with regard to who or what, exactly, is lost in Counter-Strike." — Joseph Mallozzi, comments section of December 21 Blog. Concerning the two characters with a rocky past who are given a bonding opportunity in this episode, Joseph Mallozzi says, "It's not Landry and Lam." (SG1Solutions, December 22) "For instance, a while ago, a fan asked whether Daniel would be telling Vala about Sha're. At the time, my response was "it's possible" simply because the circumstances had not presented itself. Lo and behold, the proper circumstances did come along in Counter-Strike." — Joseph Mallozzi, GateWorld Q&A, December 22. "As I was writing Counter-Strike, I realized that it was a surprisingly sober outing for one particular character and wondered whether it was a little too "down". I honestly can't see how it can't be given the circumstances. Still, we finally get to see the inside of an Ori ship and the story affords a bonding opportunity between two characters with a rocky past." — Joseph Mallozzi, December 21 Blog. Vala will learn about Sha're and Amaunet [from either Daniel or Teal'c] in this episode. (Joseph Mallozzi, SG1Solutions, December 18) "The plan was to finish one script and write the second one in January when we got back to the office, choosing one and letting Paul write the Atlantis and the third SG-1. Well, that was the plan but after a couple of days of R&R, I started to feel guilty, so I started the second script, Counter-Strike, which I believe has been slotted for the 7 spot. Lots of good emotion in this one, bonding, and a significant loss at episode's end. I'm kind of concerned about the visual effects budget on this one and will look to trim a little in my next pass." — Joseph Mallozzi, December 14 Blog. "We ended up breaking episode 7 today which either Paul and/or I will write. This one is going to be a lot of fun. Brad said it reminded him of Reckoning, and no wonder." — Joseph Mallozzi, November 28 Blog. 10.08 "Memento Mori" (working title) (Written by: Joseph Mallozzi/Paul Mullie; Directed by: _) In answer to whether or not Daniel will be showing more patience and compassion toward Vala in Season Ten, Joseph Mallozzi stated, "There are some really nice moments along these lines in Morpheus, Counter-Strike, and Memento Mori." (SG1Solutions, January 20) "On Monday, I'll be getting notes on Memento-Mori and preliminary indications are the first draft is in pretty good shape." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 19 Blog. "Finally, Memento Mori. I'm still smiling at the Vala-Mitchell scenes, anticipating the fan reaction to the "dinner date" debate, and am curious as to whether Ben [browder] knows how to ride a motorcycle." — Joseph Mallozzi, December 21 Blog. "Going back with two scripts would be huge. Going back would be mind-blowing. So, I've started work on Memento Mori, which I believe is slotted for the 8 spot. I'm only into the first act and, ideally, would love to get it done before the family comes to visit on the 23rd. This one will also be a lot of fun and have already done a little research on memories, a certain war goddess from Cronos's neck of the woods, and Caribbean deli menus." — Joseph Mallozzi, December 14 Blog. "Episode 8 is going to be the Vala story I pitched (which came to me after a carafe of sake last Friday night) and we'll be getting around to breaking that one tomorrow. Ivon [bartok, DVD Features] was in the room today, recording it all for a possible season 10 special feature." — Joseph Mallozzi, November 28 Blog. 10.10 "Quest Part 1" (working title) (Written by: Joseph Mallozzi/Paul Mullie; Directed by: _) "We've got the 200th episode to work on and Alan's heist episode, and the SG-1 mid-season two-parter that already has the visual effects department salivating." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 19 Blog. "I'd love to get cracking on the big SG-1 mid-season quest two-parter..." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 2 Blog. 10.11 "Quest Part 2" (working title) (Written by: Joseph Mallozzi/Paul Mullie; Directed by: _) "We've got the 200th episode to work on and Alan's heist episode, and the SG-1 mid-season two-parter that already has the visual effects department salivating." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 19 Blog. "I'd love to get cracking on the big SG-1 mid-season quest two-parter..." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 2 Blog. 10.XX "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" (working title) (Written by: Joseph Mallozzi/Paul Mullie; Directed by: _) "It's not episode 9. And hopefully, it will be in the back half of season 10." — Joseph Mallozzi, SG1Solutions, January 20. "The next couple of weeks will no doubt be spent reading and commenting on scripts, revising, and hopefully breaking some more stories. I'd love to get cracking on the big SG-1 mid-season quest two-parter or the time travel, What If?, story we briefly discussed (hopefully, no producer's head will explode this time, unlike the time we broke Moebius I and II)." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 2 Blog. "I've always been better pitching on paper than delivering verbal pitches, so I wrote up a bunch of story ideas for both shows: Extreme Measures, In the Darkest Recesses, The Kindred, Suffer the Children, Yesterday Today and Tomorrow, The Tainted, and Morpheus. [...] Yesterday Today and Tomorrow is a time travel story (x2) that I've wanted to do since last year." — Joseph Mallozzi in his GateWorld Blog, November 13. OTHER POSSIBLE STORIES NOT YET PLACED OR CONFIRMED "We've got the 200th episode to work on and Alan's heist episode, and the SG-1 mid-season two-parter that already has the visual effects department salivating." — Joseph Mallozzi, January 19 Blog. "The #9 slot is blank, but it looks like Alan will be stepping in to pen the big "rescue op" story he pitched (nice to see the Lucian Alliance making their presence known as things develop)" — Joseph Mallozzi, January 14 Blog. -
I personally want to debate episode 20. My general impression at the end was "WTF" ... I mean by no means that I had expected them to be made into dust by 4 Ori ships. And why the Lucian alliance sent only 3 ships ?! - Were are all the Jaffa ships? What I have seen at the super gate was around 10 Jaffa big ships (forget their name) and 2 human ones ... I hate the SG_1 scenario makers ... they always manage to surprise me. So the question is: "What the hell do you think has happened there and most important ... what will happen in the next series?" http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/4183/orihatakboom8nc.jpg http://wiki.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/images/5/5c/S10SG1banner.jpg

I decided to create this sub forum because I assume that we are all Sci-Fi fans. We do love SW and EAW the most but this does not mean that we don't see or like any other Sci-Fi stuff. Based on this assumption I have decided that we need a place were we can discuss and debate general Sci-Fi materials. Thank you all, Cain

What do you think?
-
I know that it is a lot of medium / low importance news ... but it has to be posted. People are interested to know the mod updates and any other news no matter how small. So I will like to see if possible all the mod news and any other "major" news that exist on other sites too FR included.
-
Thank you for the mod Sentryx - I will certantly try it
-
Cool - remember to use the system that Siddus installed.
-
Ok - we need news - mods news - events news - anything. to keep a steady supplly of news. I am goiing to ask help publicly if no one starts to consider this option.
-
No - it actually has one - it shows that our example is followed by the LEC Producers ... and this is a good thing.

Beating the rebel campaign on hard with 100% space/ground efficiency
Cain replied to a topic in EAW General Discussion
They actually designed (I assume) it this way in the idea that the SW universe can look and balance it self like the C&C one. This is a poor choice of action since SW can balance it self without unbalancing the reality. They designed the game mostly with short MP testing and not long SP campaigns. It is really hard to have a compromise solution for fun on both parts. The problem is that I do believe that the game play can be balanced in a more realistic way and still give the same amount of fun (fun in the dev concept). The question they should ask them self is this: "How we can evolve our stats and balance to give the fans a lot more SW weapon reality and general realism feeling?" From my experience with SWR they are pretty much close they just need to slow down things in SP and create them self’s a realism campaign as a new addition to the existing campaigns. They don't have nothing to loose. The future of game development is in fact the ability to offer the same product with multiple game play variants to target a much wider audience. And this can only be done by carefully selecting the game designers that are going to do the changes to the finished product. The main problem in game design these days is that the actual developers and more important ... the producers have a distorted view about how a product should be made. The fact that they are stuck in the game industry privates them from the ability to polish their generally good vision in the product that is needed at at the polished quality that is expected by the buyers. -
This is not an invisible laser - in fact your galaxy is just beeing invaded by the Ori (SG-1). ;D
