Why the ISD isn't a Clone Wars SHIP (not Design)
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Ello's topic in Warlords (Homeworld 2)
Well, remember, there is twenty years between Episode III and Episode IV, so there is still a chance that the VSD is in there somewhere. If you look at the VSD in the Warlords mod you'll find that it's role really isn't the same as the ISDs. The ISD is a mobile turbolaser station, where as the VSD is intended for light ombat, or missile strikes. The ships we saw in Episode III were also more for assault than a tactical role. -

I must admit I'm left wondering where your information came from. I've yet to see anything to support these claimes. Perhaps you could enlighten us? -
The Worst SW Novel Awards!!!
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to BadSamaritan's topic in General Discussion
You know, I enjoyed most of those novels. I read two kinds of novels: the first are the ones I read for the challenge, deep plot, good characters etc. This would include any novels I've read by Patrick O'Brian or Steven Erikson. Then there are the novels I describe as "brain candy". There isn't much to them, they're not very original, and they're simple enough that a twelve-year-old could read them. Star Wars novels fall into this category. If you ignore any stupid ideas in the way of supwerweapons and whatnot, you find that all-in-all the novel was entertaining. Of the Star Wars novels I've read, the Black Fleet Crisis was the only one I didn't enjoy. I know, the others were really bad when it comes to contributing to the Star Wars galaxy, but they were fun. Books like Planet of Twilight, Crystal Star and [/i]Children ofthe Jedi[/i], I didn't mind the slow pace. Most good novels are slow paced, keeping the reader entertained with a good plot, not constant action. I think these novels did that well (I do have to remember that most of our members rae young, so they might not have migrated to the more complex novels yet (no offense)). In the end I had to vote for the Black Fleet Crisis as it was the only trilogy I've ever been able to accidentally skip the second book and not notice . -
Yeah, I was rather surprised by this (in a good way). I was on a reenactment this weekend and came back saturday evening to find that we had 289 people online that very evening! It's great to see all of these new faces... well at least see their names on the main page, even if they aren't all actively posting .

I'm sure this has been asked before, but...
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to DarkForces's topic in General Discussion
Well, Kuat isn't in the game, but Carida is (on large), as well as Eriadu. Raithal, Gall and Corulag. I'm not certain on Rendili, I'd have to take a look. -
Kaja, if you're going to play a heavy defensive game, make sure you've got the sentries to counter any espionage and sabotage.

Just to inject a little thought on the Empire's xenophobia: take a look at those Palpatine hangs around with during RotS. I don't think you'll find any humans in there. While it is true that we don't see any alien officers, there may have been some somewhere. Or, maybe any aliens that liked what the Empire was doing were in more administrative positions.

Ah, but that's only if you put a space between the words. If you spell it BadSamaritan you only get about 8,000. Then again, that's more than if you enter Grand_Admiral_Thrawn in. You only get around 1,000 and some of those are links here .

I bet you I've got more hits than most of you. Grand Admiral Thrawn is pretty popular. I have discovered that there is apparently a band named after me (my real name that is). I've also apparently won 2nd place in the Brass Monkey Singer Songwriter Competition. I have yet to recieve my amaha MT400 4-Track Recorder . Other than that I just get a bunch of hits about hte B-25.

Well, there is the matter of the drivers being free in the first place... However, if you were to mail your CD to LucasArts they should still honour their agreement to replace it. I would contact their customer service department first however.

This dudes is the point I was trying to make...* I must get my hands on the X-Wing TIE Fighter games; though I must confess to having become very bored with inspecting cargo containers in X-Wing Alliance... Remember though, TIE Fighters are still capable of handling an X-Wing, they're just not as tough. A Spitfire can't handle an F-16, we know that. So, look at what the American military does do. What would you classify as the ultimate airforce? What about one that uses nothing but F-22 Raptors? But does America do this? No. Why? Because it's not cost effective. Instead they create squadrons of F-16s and F-18s and F-14s and then create a few squadrons of the top-notch F-22 squadrons. So, if we convert this into Star Wars terms, we have alot of TIE Fighters, TIE Interceptors and TIE Advanced x1s with just a few TIE Defender squadrons. I agree with you about X-Wing Alliance. I much preferred the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter games.

SM's Episode III Critical Analysis
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in General Discussion
It was on BitTorrent (or BitCommet to be more precise). The problem is it's meant to be widescreen but plays in full screen (so it's all squished unless you resize the window or have a widescreen TV (thankfully I can do both), and there is a time stamp at the top). I don't advocate pirating, and if you want to see this film in all it's glory I suggest you go the cinemas, but I'm not going to pay $11.50 every time I want to watch the movie. I should also note that most torrent sites have blocked any searches for Revenge of the Sith at LucasFilm's request. As such I'm going to delete the file from my computer. At least I got to watch it a few times. -
SM's Episode III Critical Analysis
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in General Discussion
The people who laught at things like Vader's trouble walking or the "NNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" are somewhat immature. I sat through Enemy at the Gates and had to listen to someone laugh every time a person got shot. I've now watched the movie about four times (I'm watching it as I type), and my view of it has changed in a way that of Episodes I and II hasn't. Each time I watch RotS it feels more and more right. Forgetting what we wanted to see and simply taking in the movie as it is, it has a very close feel to the original trilogy. Sure there are more and flashier special effects, but the atmosphere is about the same. I really think that, unlike Episode I and II, RotS will become a fan favorite, and maybe move close to the level of esteem of Episodes IV-VI. I think I've also arrived at a conclusion as to why the prequals don't feel like the same type of movie as ANH, ESB and RotJ. In the prequals very little of the action takes place on a planet, and what does is counter-balanced by space. Throughout the OT we jump between Rebels fighting for survival and Imperials walking around on their cold, harsh metalic ships with bright lighting and dark floors and walls. In the Prequals we have bright planets and an array of colours. Did any one else feel a wave of nostalga when Bale is first shown on the Tantive IV? Then there is the fact that in the OT the Jedi were not really at the fore front of the story. We knew of the Force, we watch lightsabers, but it wasn't really the focus of what we were watching. -
Actually this isn't really about cloning anymore. We've all agreed that the Empire was at least based on clones, and that it is most probable that the stormtroopers and TIE Pilots we see in the movies were indeed clones. It has now, however, turned to the validity of the EU. It would seem that, right now, most of us are of the opinion that, though there were pleanty of stupid ideas in the EU, it's there and so long as nothing George Lucas has writted contradicts it, that's the way it is.
-
I'll start with a question: was the line refering to X-Wings and Y-Wings as antiques in the ANH novel? Ok, to start with, I fail to see the point of this thread. We know there were more advanced fighters than the standard TIE. We've all seen TIE Interceptors, Bombers and the TIE Advanced Vader flew, so we know they are there. There may very well be more of them, but to explore that we'd have to delve into the EU. As for our belief that the Empire was concerned with cost-effective production models, you really can't argue to the contrary. They knew what the rebels had done to the first Death Star against TIE Fighters, so if they had large numbers of more advanced models, why was the second Death Star defended by hordes of TIE Fighters with a light smattering of TIE Interceptors? Now your claim that the Prequal Trilogy has somehow killed the EU is absolutely insane. Anything that directly contradicted the movies is, of course, wrong, but all Episode III has done is correct a few errors and strengthened the belief (well, proved is more like it) that all or most of our masked Imperial men are indeed clones. Why must you accept the EU? Because, no matter how silly some of it is, it's all you've got. It goes more in-depth than anything GL has come up with. It expands our knowledge into the post-RotJ era, and until GL comes out with something else, that is his vission plain and simple. And to say that even Star Wars.com is as accurate as Supershadow, well that's just comming it a bit high. The database there is nothing more than a compilation of known information from both the EU and the movies. I know you said not to argue this here, but frankly this is the best place to do it.

What's all this about Traitors...?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Darth_Gonzo's question in Questions from Newbies
I think the loss of characters can be placed in the "doing poorly" category. One thing that contradicts this theory, however, is the lack of moles when you play as the Empire. I have no use for prisoners and so I assassinate all of the rebels, yet I see no increase in the failure rate of their missions, unless they simply send fewer missions because of the lack of major characters to lead them. -
Indeed, congrats on your 1000th post Krytos! Why, it seems like only yesterday you were a wee cadet.

Hmm, I could have sworn that non-Force users could detect too... maybe I thought that because they were detected Force users... -
If you're talking about the small icons that surround the planets on the Galaxie Map, or the planets themselves, they can be changed, but it is a very tedious process. You have to have the Resource Hacker and then sift through each DLL until you find the image you want, then create one to replace it.

POST HERE IF YOU CANNOT GET THE MOD TO RUN!!!!
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to EvilleJedi's topic in Warlords (Homeworld 2)
Well, if you've tried it with the different settings the only thing I can suggest now is make sure everything is in the right folders in your Homeworld2 directory. If everything is good there, drop in the chatroom on the main SWR page. Eville is usually there and he can probably help you now that I'm out of ideas. -
My defensive rating is just over 100k at the moment. The whole of my army is defensive soldiers, but I only have four dragonskin for them. I am slowly building up a strong defense so I can turtle and amass money. I switched to Humans because of the 20% economy bonus they get.

What's all this about Traitors...?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Darth_Gonzo's question in Questions from Newbies
The probability of some one being a traitor is somewhat random, but there are some key factors that lead to a traitor. First, the number of systems you controle compared to your opponent. If you're the Empire and the Rebellion has most of the Core worlds you've got a good chance of getting a traitor. Also, if you're not doing to well militarily (that is, you keep loosing battles), or if your planets are always successfully being assaulted you might have a traitor afterwords. Being sabotaged fits into this catagory too. Now, I'm not sure, but I think doing things like attacking civilian assets or destroying planets (in the case of the Empire) can also force one or more of your characters to become a traitor. Now, each of these things randomly effects a character. If you look in the Minor Character section in RebEd you'll see that there is a loyalty rating for each character. Some of the Rebel characters will have a "Character is always loyal" box checked next to this rating. These characters will never become a traitor. Those that do not have this box checked will all start with 100% loyalty. As the game progessed this percentage may drop due to any of the events I've listed above. The reason I say this is random is because not all characters will have their loyalty reduced as much as others. Now, having a loyal character in the same system as a traitor and having them on a mission together will uncover the traitor. For example, if Ozzel is a traitor and I send him on any mission with Thrawn, who is loyal (in this isntance you understand), the mission will fail and a message will appear in your box from Thrawn saying he has discovered a traitor. If you don't have any characters to spare, but you suspect some one is a traitor keep track of their missions. If they consistantly fail or are foiled most of the time there is a good chance you have a spy. Sadly the only way to deal with them is to retire them. -
Well, you'd have to make sure her father and mother were dead before you divorced her since her daddy is where her cash comes from. YOu might want to deal with her sister to, just to be safe. If you could escape the legal side of things after all that, I guess being married to her would be worth it. But seriousley, although I despised her TV show, we really have no idea what she's like. I know for a fact that the other person on that show (Nichole something) isn't like what she is portrayed as on that show. I know that her being in an adult video on the internet gives us some clue as to what she's like (I know she didn't put it there, but the fact she agreed to be recorded says alot), but in the end she might be a nice person.

Hackers are basically the bullies of the internet. The only thing is, hackers don't even have to see the effect their actions have on their victims, they just take pleasure in knowing that what they've done has harmed some one. This makes them worse and more twisted than a school yard bully. There is also the fact that they hack because they can. They take joy in saying "Look what I can do, and you can't do any thing to stop me". They are very childish and selfish. I'm sure there's some sort of underlying psycological disturbances, probably related to being breast fed or something...

I'm not really sure how they built that many, I was as surprised as you. I hadn't reduced their cost at all. What was even more surprising was that they still had a fleet comprised of ISDs after that.
