  1. Whoa, okay! Time to grab this bull by the horns and bring us back on topic...lest punishments be handed out. So I still work at a damn book store: Borders books. My general manager quit, though, so it makes life only that much more bareable. Also, I work at a bank as an evening drive-thru teller, and as a receptionist/office assistant at a private securities firm in DC. My boss for the securities firm is a cool, ex-Special Forces guy who scares the crap out of me every time he gets angry at someone.
  2. Did you go here? No, I hadn't. Thank you!
  3. I FIGURED IT OUT!!! Well, actually, I owe a great deal to my dad. We just started doing Google searches for "scrolling slow after reformat" and "slow scrolling reformat" and he found a webpage where a fellow had the exact same problem. As it turns out, all I had to do was download my catalyst (ATI) drivers and BAM! It's all fixed! Scrolling is smooth and I've literally popped a cork on a bottle of campagne in celebration! Damn, I hate computers. Thanks for all the help! And, yes, I realize you had pointed out the drivers before, malarkie, but it hadn't made any sense to me--specifically, I didn't know what you had meant. But I owe you and Eagle a great deal of gratitude!
  4. Can we just start calling you "The Third" from now on? No.
  5. I would download ZoneAlarm firewall, but it's all in German... Not to say I have a particular problem with that, but I'm worried I'd never know what was happening and be unable to truly use it. Is there an English version, perhaps? I checked Bonjour and it seems to be completely gone, and I've already restarted my computer since I first deleted it. Still, despite all of that, the scrolling problem persists... Of interest, my computer originally only came with 256MB of RAM, but I later upgraded with 500MB of RAM more. At first I thought this might be the issue, but my computer functioned perfectly fine back before I reformatted it with the extra RAM... Is there perhaps something I'm supposed to activate or something...? Also, since I reformatted, it seems I'm missing some drivers for the shut down. Basically, "Stand by" is no longer an option. Thoughts?
  6. I went to Add/Remove in my Control Panel and took out Bonjour. Is that what you meant when you said iTunes? Because I don't have an iPod, much less iTunes... I understand the ending certain processes which are not necessary, but I haven't the slightest idea which are, especially since they all say "certain programmes won't work correctly...blah blah blah" every time I end a process. Of interest, certain websites like Google (and all associated ones like Gmail and Google searches), as well as the HijackThis website work perfectly fine, yet all others are still a pain, including this one... I do have Microsoft Firewall, but where do I go to get the one you were talking about, Eagle? Where do you check to see how is my Wireless manager? I moused-over my wireless connection icon in the QuickLaunch and it says: IntelPROSet/Wireless. Is that what you're talking about? And how can I tell whether I have downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card? Where would I go? Sorry for all the questions, but as most of you know, I am basically computer-technicalities illiterate... Thanks for all the help, too!

  8. As you command, sir. Um...where do I download these devices?
  9. Let's see, I refer to myself as "Saul", but have got into the habit of going by my middle name these days "Omar"...
  10. Alright, fellows, remember how I had been complaining about my computer and it's all its not-cool-ness? Well, I decided to go a bit drastic and reformatted the Hard Drive (HD). I followed this up with a reinstallation of Windows XP, all the software and drivers previously installed by DELL, as well as Microsoft Office. Next, I fixed my wireless connection, and went online where I downloaded all the updates for Windows through all the latest updates for Service Pack 2. I also downloaded Internet Explorer 7 (I know many of you might disagree with that last one, but I'm not very computer savvy, so I stick with easy-to-use matters...). Anyway, throughout this process, I noticed something strange that had never happened, not even when my computer had been full of spyware and adware... Basically, whenever I come across something with a scroll bar, the page scrolls terribly slow--and I mean REALLY slow! This isn't just on the Internet, either, but for anything with a side scroll bar, including Word documents, Excel worksheets--everything! Again, this never happened before, so it's probably something I missed or messed up on along the way in reformatting the HD. I mean, everything else works fantastic and I have some new, up-to-date anti-virus/spyware/adware software on the computer which works perfectly on my dad's computer, yet his doesn't have the problem while scrolling. To describe it, I would say it almost looks as though the computer doesn't have enough memory to keep up, but this doesn't make sense (at least to me) because my computer has 768 MB of RAM, and again, it never happened before when I had all of that outdated and messed up stuff on the HD. As you can imagine, I'm quite frustated as I thought reformatting the HD would fix all of these problems, and yet something always happens to screw with me... Let me describe the scrolling a little better. You see, when I used to scroll down before the reformat, it would just move down like normal, but now it's choppy. It almost seems like the computer is having to reload the page every time it scrolls. Does this make sense? Well, if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it! Once I fix that, I promise to be around more often.
  11. Amazon search for Jennifer Government. The book has been printed in many different languages, so you may be interested in looking for one of those. In any event, Max predicted nearly all of this recent nonsense (shooting people over something, tatoo company adverts on ones body, blah), so I think it's time everyone started arming themselves with knowledge. If this trend continues, soon companies like Nike and Coca-Cola will control the world... Read the book.
  12. Well, gee, thanks, Jahled. I thought you would back me up on this one.
  13. I knew it! I knew it! I'd been saying it, "Someone's going to get shot over the PS3" and look...it happened. Sometimes I hate being right. Everyone needs to read Jennifer Government by Max Barry. Nearly every damn thing he has predicted concerning captialism has come true, including people shooting each other over some rare item...
  14. Damnit! I hope I didn't kill yet another topic!
  15. What kind of "best games" are those? Especially lacking TIE Fighter, Rebellion, and X-Wing Alliance.
  16. Sony knows market strategy. They put out a few, and I mean very few of the PlayStation3, driving the market crazy until the full release. At the time of the full release, all the people who wanted one, and a good portion of those who didn't, will go out and buy one. But now you have people (I know at least three individuals) sitting outside of electronics stores and the like to buy one of these limited early versions to then turn around, go on eBay, and sell them for double or triple, maybe even more. It's really not a bad idea, but I see one major problem, namely that a lot of these nutcases are carrying pistols to protect themselves. Well, I'm sure there's going to be at least one diehard fan who's going to get a little pissed off when he doesn't get his copy...and then the police get involved, and then the news arrive, and then... Has anyone read Jennifer Government by Max Barry? It's actually rather relevant in this moment...despite hvaing been written as a satire.
  17. Doesn´t sound very nice. You definetly should make a HijackThis-scan. If wanted I can take a look at it and we´ll see what I can do. You can send the log to me as a pm. Hey, thanks, Eagle! Sometime this weekend, I'll be in touch.
  18. Good idea about posting this in General Discussion, but I more or less have to move it. No worries, I'll leave a 'ghost' topic-thread here with a redirect that will take people to the discussion in the RPG forum.
  19. And it's answers precisely like that, Tofu, and the fact you seem to think there's a twisted joke behind it, that make it quite evident you are very young.
  20. Carrie, look at the date of posting and then consider the fact that there was a system collapse. Once you have done this, I'll inform you that there was a completely different thread, which disappeared in the forum crash. No matter, the topic itself is old, both the original one and the one you suggested a new thread be made for, and in any event the latter is moot since it's all over with. But no, it's not so hard, Carrie, but perhaps consider suggesting it with a little more tact. In the end, though, it's been taken care of.
  21. Check this thread: http://www.swrebellion.com/forums/posts3572-15.html Hopefully it'll work better for you than it did for me.
  22. Not that I like using Saxton logic too much, but we can't truly be certain that was a regular Imperial-class Star Destroyer. It may have been something smaller, though I don't remember the scale being all that off... http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/photo/oddtower.jpg Photo courtesy of Star Wars Techincal Commentaries. 23. Jahled and I share nearly identical views, if not completely identical. I have, like most of you know, opposed this war from the onset, and when our boys and gals crossed the border into Kuwait, I prayed all the prayers I could that they'd be well. When my boys at home--because I was living at Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division, at the time--were ordered to go, it killed me. Every night I heard the whine and scream of airplanes leaving the airfield as one by one they left to fight. I talked to a lot of them: most of them seemed certain in what was to be done, but I could sense among some of the blokes, especially among the older officers, a sense of cynical realization that things were a little odd and uncalled for. A few even talked to me about it, but they knew better than to scream their objections and just went about doing their job. Now... I have known more than twelve Soldiers and officers to die, and dozens more to be wounded, my father among them. Fellows I went to high school with are bloodied in Walter Reed Army Hospital, and two of them died on that burning sand halfway on the other side of the planet. I always told them to take care themselves and come back safe, that I'd be praying for them and I appreciated every minute of service they'd given. I even gave a try out at being in the Army, but damaged by back pretty damn bad that now...well, forget about it. I feel almost inadequete when I talk to them. I have a hard time hugging my brothers and kissing my girls and letting them go off to die for a war I don't agree with. Jahled and John McCain put it best, namely that we at least owe it to the Iraqi people to try and stabalize and secure the nation, especially after such a mess we made of everything. A few of my dad's old friends, one of them now with angels, said that there were too many mistakes from the beginning. Militarily, the invasion had been amazing, to make Eisenhower, Churchill, and the fellows at Normandy sit in awe, but it had been too good. The grumbled about how they'd knocked out not just the military, but everything: government, services...damn bloody near waged a total war of annihilation. The problem was that they'd strike one town or city, take out Saddam's friends, and then move to the next place. What did this do? It destroyed the initial, military enemy, but created a power vaccuum in which terrorism and anger bred and festered. All those civilian and even some military planners who expected Iraq to be like Belgium in World War II couldn't have been more wrong. Sure, they were happy to see us, but there was nothing in place to pick up the slack and stop the infection that started the moment coalition troops moved from one place to another. Every day I hear about another fellow dead here and another dozen wounded there, and can't help but wonder if it's one of mine. My father is actually slated to return soon, and I will never forgive the Administration or any of these planners if he dies in this damn illegal war. Sorry, perhaps that was too emotional. Indeed, we owe it to the Iraqi people to stabalize what chaos we've created, but truth be told, it's not going to happen. John McCain wants to send in more troops to, as he said, "secure and hold" the ground, and I agree with him, but this should have been done at the onset. Doing it now is just too little too damn late. We ought to be ashamed of what has happened and do everything we can to help them clean up, but even the government doesn't want us in there. If they are a sovereign nation, then it's time to leave; otherwise, end the facade and say "we'll do as we damn well please." In any event, I can't say I am totally in favour of a complete withdrawal because of the chaos it will cause, but then... A civil war is going to happen in Iraq whether coalition forces are there not. The only question is whether coalition troops die in it or leave. There is no "good side" to this; rather, we have to choose between the lesser of two incredibly awful evils.
  24. HijackThis, you said? I'll give it a shot.
  25. Has anyone else noticed that this webcomic has nothing to do with Our Feline Nemesis? Tofu, in the future, please don't post pics that large directly to the thread. Either make them a thumbnail or simply a link.
