  1. The mighty LaForge, this game makes me dizzy Much fun, though!

    Ranks?

Here's the appropriate thread Beeing Promoted in the Forums (the spelling is purposeful because the thread's original name was misspelled by its creator). And since this has been discussed so much, I'll go ahead and close it up.
  3. You may take this as a joke, Tofu, but going from a public school with no dress code to one with a fiercely enforced one, you see a major shift in attitude towards education. That's not say everyone is going to do better, but over all it takes away one apparently major distraction from studies. Truly, I didn't believe the blah-blah until I experienced it first hand.
  4. Whine, whine, whine. Mitth, I have had a grand total of one, yes, ONE white Christmas with snow and whatnot. And global warming doesn't exist.
  5. I'm not from Germany, but from the Roman Re-enactors I have spoken to who live or have lived in Germany, they could not use the Roman swastika, even though it faces the other way, because it could and often was misinterpreted. An example of such is a shield called Duros Europos which contains two swastikas, both of which were filled in to form squares with X's in the middle. Take a look here. You'll note the interesting red-orange squares with X's on the inside yellow square. Historically, the artifact found had swastikas (backward in comparison with the Nazi's own), but since most reenacting groups at the time were in Germany, especially under the tutelage of Dan Peterson, they were taken out. Same goes for this Roman pugio. Note the swastikas. Where this was made, India, the swastika does not mean the same as it does in the general West, but even so, this is a one-of-a-kind which will be auctioned off (estimates run in the thousands ). All subsequent models, which will all be limited, about 15-25 total, will have the swastika replaced with a Roman floral design frequently found on Roman pugiones (daggers) and such. BEAK.
  6. Well, Rob, perhaps that's because you wear a hat most of the time...at least according to your photos on Facebook. I went to a high school that required us to wear a certain dress code, namely khaki, gray, or navy-blue pants and a collared shirt which was either white, blue, or hunter-green. We could wear sweaters, too, but it had to be a collar under or with it. Turtle necks were also acceptable, but had to meet the same colors for the shirt. It was rather dull, but overall we all looked better in dress (since most kids in my high school have no sense of style or just dressing, for that matter) and kept a lot of the clothing distractions out of class. I truly did hate it when it began in my first year of high school, especially coming from a public school with no dress code, but I must admit, it kept certain stresses out of school. Truly, it leveled the playing field, as they say. After having a bad, then improved experience with dress codes, I see no problems with them in grade schools.
  7. Did you guys ever read Jahled's recount of our time drinking together? No? He posted it a long time ago, but I don't remember which thread... Anyway, so it goes, we were drinking together and I was especially drunk, so we stumbled out of the bar to try to get back to his place when suddenly I spotted some traffic cones. Me: He, look, traffic cones! They're magical. Jahled: Right... Let's go. Me: No, really! I walked over to the traffic cones. I put one on my head. About that time, a police officer happened by and stopped. Jahled, having been talking to his girlfriend on the phone, kind of scooted aside and out of sight. The police officer approached me. Officer: How much have you had to drink? Me: What's that officer? Officer: [sigh] Take the traffic cone off your head. Me: What's that officer?! Officer: Take the cone off your-- Me: What's that officer?! I can't hear! I've a traffic cone on my head! If not for Jahled's conscious suddenly showing up and forcing him to come to my aid, I would probably have spent the night in jail. Then again, I don't remember much about it since I really, really drunk. Jahled can probably tell the story better.
  8. Yeah, that's why I'm using it. It's working out pretty well, and I especially like the Facebook toolbar I downloaded.
  9. I'm doing a side-by-side test now between IE7 and FireFox, giving FireFox the benefit by clicking to load a page there before IE7 and still IE7 loads faster... And I did the modifications you posted, GAT. Maybe it's just me... Any how, no matter. I'll keep playing with FireFox. If it starts driving me crazy, I'll just switch back. EDIT: Oh, and it took away all the dividers here on SWR... Very strange...
  10. I'm also now using Firefox, but many of the graphics and webpages seem to run a little a slower than they did with IE7. Is this perhaps merely a setting? Or perhaps the time it's taking for Firefox to get adjusted?
  11. I have yet to find someone who has gotten a death song that fits the scene. Your's, however, probably the funniest. At least I die having fun. It is a great song, after all. Maybe I go down in glory or something.
  12. I would love to see Evaders do a Christmas avatar of his...
  13. Wait... what?!.. there were girls?!?!?! and i was not informed?!!! Did you ever meet DinoChick? There was that time Tofu got so drunk he thought AI was a girl and... Good times. Good times.
  14. Back in the old days, before the dark times, before the newbies... Where was I? Oh, right. Back in the old days, the Star Wars forums used to be more active. Not sure why we have run out of interesting conversation. Actually, yes, I do. Likely because Star Wars has basically run its course. With the prequels complete, many people are walking away like some long all-night, party/afterparty. We all had a lot to drink, we all talked to a lot of girls, and we've all done somethings we'll regret later, but the party's over... Sadly.
  15. My last final (final final, haha ) is next Monday. Not too bad considering I only have two finals, one of which I took today.
  16. Click here for the free home use only download Only because your avatar makes me laugh. Thanks! You know, I'm using ZoneAlarm, but it has slowed my Internet down a lot. And it's a little annoying to have to tell it to allow everything either access or no access. I'll keep trying it out, though...
  17. Oh...wow... Cents and dollars. Who would have guessed they're different?
  18. The music did it for me. Evaders, you and I think the same way! Indeed, the undergraduate degree has become what the high-school diploma once was, and a high-school diploma is merely like passing 8th grade or dropping out of high-school. If more emphasis was put on actually teaching and educating children rather than passing them... I hate to get political, but I hear a lot of complaints about "No Child Left Behind" in this regard as teachers are virtually forced to pass the students or find their jobs at risk. Some teachers, then, find it easier to simply pass the students like some sort of quota rather than actually teach them, especially since most students could care less. Really, I mean, there isn't enough emphasis on the learning aspect as much as the "just stay in school" course. This isn't to say staying in school isn't important, but the down side to forcing people to stay in school and forcing them to take certain classes "burns out" students and, well, they get bored and stop caring. I can tell you, I was only actually interested in going to school after taking a semester off...
  19. You can turn this on again under the energy-option (don´t know how it is called in the englisch windows-version ). Problem solved. Not sure what did it, but it's complete. There are still lots of security-gaps. Of course there are some in Mozilla and Opera too, but most of the attacks of hackers or worms are made for the Iexplorer. Likely because of the amount of users on Explorer. On the firewall site, what do I click? I couldn't figure out where to go to get the firewall on the English site.
  20. Yes. The music service I have is free with a George Mason email account, and one of the first things I downloaded was Pink Floyd's THE WALL. If I do it again tomorrow or the day after, it would probably be a little different...

    #1000

Wow, what a great excuse to spam. I remember when I reached 1000... That was quite sometime ago. All this was nothing but farmland, far as the eye could see. There wasn't any of this fancy Internet Explorer 7--heck, there wasn't even IE6 back then! All you whipper-snappers wouldn't remember that because you've got your new-fangled, fancy iPod and iTunes, now. Back in those days, we actually had to go out and buy our music on things called Compact Disks, or as we used to call them, CDs. -Scathane -Trejiuvanat -mask -Jahled -wormie -dude21 -Igor -etc Not enough of the old folk left around...
  23. Haha, Rob, perfect. Sorry for a delay and in coming across this, but, yes, I find the situation amusing. Romans coming before Greeks--what will they come up with next? Kids these days... Anyway, you seem to have more patience or are at least nicer than me. I would have raised my hand and when called upon said: "Professer, so-and-so says the Romans came before the Greeks, the Greeks taking ideas from the Romans. What do you think?"
  24. Three different jobs... Impressive. Maybe... It's really more a pain than it sounds...unless it sounds like a pain already... In any event, it's not much fun juggling three jobs and university all at once. Basically, I work at Borders the days I don't have classes, I work at the bank when I do have classes (after classes in the evenings since the bank is close to my university, except Fridays), and work as a receptionist Friday and sometimes Saturday nights (I am one of three, well, two now since one of the receptionists got sacked for losing some paperwork, but there are supposed to be three: one full-time, day-time receptionist, one part-time evening repcetionist, and one part-time weekend receptionist...me).
  25. Polonium-212 has to be a bad way to go... That or walking along in a high-rise office building, tripping on the electrical chord the janitor, Joe, left out the night before because he was having an impromptu party of the janitorial staff in your office and you were about to go see him because of the mess he left behind, then falling out the window someone happened to be replacing that day...
