Eagle Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 And if so, they are way more expensive than their windows equivalents. For example Alpha Centauri: While the windows version costs about 16 Dollars in a new condition (wow!), the ( Wait! It´s addon Alien Crossfire costs 99.95 $ on Amazon??? http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/konfus/g045.gif) Mac version of that game costs, OMG, ... what (??), 118.95 $????? http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/konfus/a010.gif Uhm, well that was maybe a bad example. I´m sure there are cheaper games for the Mac out there. Who cares at all?!
Mad78 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 The easiest thing Tofu is to install Windows on a partition of your Macs HD using Boot camp. Won't cost you a thing (if you already have a copy of Windows) and will be much easier. They don't really make games for the macs. Darth_Rob Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 My brother-in-law and I killed the afternoon playing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii. Its an arcade shooter, pretty much shooting up zombies and other oddball monsters. Lots of fun. Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! DarthTofu Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 My folks just bought a beast of a mackintosh. What games are good for the Mac?Ahh hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *coughs and clears throat* But seriously, games for a mac .... Hahahahahaha!Ok, ok ... ok...I'll try to catch my breath and ... hahahaha! Please, someone else take this one before I wet myself with laughter ... My hatred for you knows no bounds, sir. On the upside, this thing has some massive video-editing capabilities. If I can just force myself to sit through a few tutorials (Unfortunately that isn't very likely- give me a ****ing instruction manual, you bastards!) I ought to be able to drastically increase the quality of Road Trip from Hell episodes 2-7.... Ought to. Assuming my friends and I ever shoot the two scenes of episode two that we have remaining. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away

DarthTofu Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Yeah, it's imovie. Why don't I need tutorials for it? It isn't quite so intuitive that I can figure out how to use it all on my own. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away

It isn't quite so intuitive that I can figure out how to use it all on my own.I did. Yay for you- you speak computer. I speak English and some classical Latin, neither of which are very helpful. Fortunately I now have a blood manual, not just for the video editing software but for the whole of iLife. Too bad I only intend to use it for the video stuff, but ah well. Is it just me, or are Mac keyboards a pain in the arse to type on? The keys are too flat and offer no resistance- it slows my typing rate down dramatically, and the space bar has a tendency not to work. What's more, I've actually managed to crash the thing- not once, but three times. Impressive? I'd say so, considering that they market these things to be so much more stable than PCs... 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted February 21, 2008 SWR Staff - Executive Posted February 21, 2008 Yea I hate the Mac keyboards. There are no indicators what key I'm typing. DarthTofu Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 I just got a copy of Civ IV from a friend. We'll see if it's any good when it finished installing on the PC... 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Darth_Rob Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I got Super Smash Bros for the Wii over the weekend. A whole lot of fun. Also got No More Heroes, which is the bloodiest game I have ever played. You play as a mercenary who wants to become the #1 assassin for an organization, thus he must kill the 10 top assassins and take their place. You have an electrified sword (reminds me of a lightsaber) and there are mass decapitations and people getting split in half. I pretty fun game. DarthTofu Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 I tried Civ IV yesterday, and I must say, I love it. When I say I "tried" it, I mean I started "testing" at 3:45 PM and ended the "testing" at around ten o'clock at night. Awesome game. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away

Darth_Rob Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 OK, I have a question about PC games in general. I have a few old school ones, that only run on Windows 95, thus they wont install on my laptop (which is XP). Is there some way that I can get around this or are these games just useless now? DarthTofu Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 Useless? Not at all, Rob! Send them all to me and I'll tell you all about how much fun they are! Speaking of which, the same friend that loaned me Civ IV got his hands on Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. I used cheat codes and just watched all of the cutscenes (which I'd already viewed on YouTube) after I took out some agression on a few stormies with a lightsaber and some Force powers. How the heck are you supposed to kill Jerek (sp?)? Even standing there hitting him, like, 2000 times, he didn't friggin' die! 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Eagle Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I sucked at lightsaber battles against any of those dark jedis. I had to use a cheat to get to the next level. Allways just used the blasters. @RobTry the compatibility-mode. Right-click on the icon options kompatibility check box try Windows95 and/or Windows98/ME. If your lucky it´ll work. Won´t work for all games though. But I believe there are some emulators out there in the I-Net. You got to google for them than. Who cares at all?!
Darth_Rob Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 How the heck are you supposed to kill Jerek (sp?)? Even standing there hitting him, like, 2000 times, he didn't friggin' die! Ah yes, Dark Forces II is one of the few PC games I have. I dont think I ever killed Jerec as a Dark Jedi. He is very tough. I know I killed him as a Light Jedi, using that Force Shield-thingy. As for the emulators Eagle mentioned, I'll have to ask my friend about that. My lappy has emulators for other things that he popped on there, so maybe he can point me in the right direction. But I hope so. I have many classic PC games I would love to play again for nostalgia, such as Axis & Allies, Imperialism, and Sim City. Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! Mad78 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Try DOSBox Rob. It works like a charm! I never managed to get into Dark Forces 2... But I absolutely loved the sequel! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Darth_Rob Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Well what I found out today is that Windows XP has the option to play games from Windows 95. I had to go through some troubleshooting guides, but eventually I found the option. I think it rewrites the path for the game, so whenever I go to play it the computer automatically shifts, changes screen resolution, and I am able to play my games. Thus I spent the third day of my spring break playing old PC games when I should have been doing something more constructive... Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! Krytos Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Playing older games is possible - just search the Internet for troubleshooting. Recently I've installed Half life 1, Command and Conquer and Command and Conquer Red Alert - the latter two required update patches and to have the .exe's put in Win95 compatibility mode. HL just needed an update patch (an 80meg one at that )Earlier games might need emulators like DOSbox to play. All in all, it was an additional 10 minutes to figure out how to get the games to work - and nothing was hard really. And for those who care, I've gone through HL and C&C (GDI campaign) and am on the second half the the Allies mission 10. Here an upcoming, and interesting game: Battlefield-HeroesAt first, I just thought here's EA copying Team Fortress 2 - but it's not.. entirelly. It's more cartoonish (such as the violence and actions you appear to do in the game - it's about the childish fun of a video game rather than the fun of a realistic FPS) and is being designed for everyone, with the concept of only allowing you to play against people of the same skill level online - rather than getting stuck on a server with some guy who won't let you get use to the game as he blows you away and then crouches up and down on top of your rotting corpse just to let you know he spends 12 hours a day playing computer games and that's his one and only skill in life. Also ... it's free And from EA And is free Did hell just freeze over? Maybe that's why it's so cold here right now? http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif

DarthTofu Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 Hell didn't freeze over. It's still up in the nineties in Florida. But a free game from EA? I'd not have thought it possible! Granted, EA makes good enough stuff that they've a right to charge for it. At least, that's been my experience with the games I've bought from them. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
