Hello. Trying to access the file download at the above link to get Rebellion working on my Vista 64-bit computer, but it seems the file is not downloading for whatever reason. I have registered with Mediafire, but when I click the link to "Save to My Account," nothing happens and I can't download it. Any ideas, or any place else I can download this at?

Thanks.

Try clicking the "Click to start download..." just above the "Save to my Account" button. I don't even have an account on that site and download still works fine for me.

Needed to clarify a few things, so I updated the original post of this thread as well as the reply from a few weeks ago with the same content, the text of the registry files is not quoted and can be easily copied to notepad. However, you need my executable if you decide to use the redirected data caches from CD to Hard Drive. The changes are noted below, you can simply edit the provided code for the registry keys to their original values and then merge and use the original game executables if you wish. [-] denotes change away from original registry key value to [+] denotes updated registry key value to redirect game caches.

- "TooBigLocation"="D:\\Rebellion"

+ "DllLocation"="C:\\Program Files\\LucasArts\\Star Wars Rebellion"

Hi,

Ok, so I've followed your steps and there were only two issues. First, it said it needed the "smackw32.dll" file, which I downloaded and placed in the folder with no problem. Then, I double-clicked the new .exe and it loads to a black screen and stays there. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advanced.

Try hitting spacebar to skip the movie. You may have used the included registry file supplied by me that defaults to pointing the media directory to the hard drive. You must use the new executable and copy the movie files from the CD to the hard drive to create the local cache.

So either A) Installed one of my registry files; copied movie files to hard drive; replaced executable or B) Used the Rebellion installer, or modified my registry file with the reversed changes noted here; if you used a modified registry then you copied the base installation (you can copy the movies also but they won't be read from hdd so it's wasted space) or it was done for you by the installer; use the original executable to play the game.

I don't remember offhand so don't quote me on this but RebEd may be hard coded to look in the C:\Program Files\ directory and installation elsewhere C:\Program Files(x86) or D:\Program Files buggers it. You can attempt to open the unpacked version of rebedit.exe that I posted in another thread, maybe look under Rebellion 2 subforum, that has executable file compression removed and can be edited in standard hex editor. You can manually change the installation path using hex editor if you have knowledge, so long as the resulting path name is no longer than the original and unused characters are replaced to null to keep the filesize (memory offsets) the same.

Hi, I can finally load the game to the launch screen. It allows me to configure my game, level, type, reb/imp. When the tactical screen loads, a message appears "Star Wars Rebellion Refresh has stopped working." Any help would be appreciated.

I think the common source of what is going wrong in so many of the Vista/7 replies is that people are messing up the manual copy.

CD Root Folder (D:\REBELLION)

Destination Root Folder (C:\...\Star Wars Rebellion)

Example:

copy D:\REBELLION\rebexe.exe to C:\...\Star Wars Rebellion\rebexe.exe

copy D:\REBELLION\MDATA to C:\...\Star Wars Rebellion\MDATA

If you have an additional REBELLION folder in your destination path then you did not follow the given directions, please read carefully.

(C:\...\Star Wars Rebellion\REBELLION\smack32.dll is incorrect; the proper path is C:\...\Star Wars Rebellion\smack32.dll)

I'm grateful there are people who go to such lengths to help us play this awesome game, which I've been playing since I was ten.

I'm having some problems getting it to run on Vista x64, however. I downloaded the file found here, and followed the instructions in the readme. I can get the game to run if I choose the reloaded.exe shortcut, but I get several error messages. At the start, I get one that simply says "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lucasarts\Star Wars Reloaded\\MDATA\MDATA.003" I get this message twice before the main menu, and once after I choose my faction and try to play.

When I actually start a game, it crashes. I get this info:

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

Application Name: RELOADED.EXE

Application Version: 0.2.0.0

Application Timestamp: 34f501d3

I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 SP1, AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual cpu 5200+, NVIDIA geforce 9500 GT with catalyst driver 7.15.11.8208.

I would love to be able to play this game again, if anyone could give me any idea of what to do or what I did wrong I would be very appreciative.

Are you using the Reloaded mod for Rebellion, or original game? Read the directions carefully and ensure you've copied all files to the right directories and merged the correct registry entries. Problems with the movie data files may indicate lack of a decoder in the application path, check for smack32.dll to be in \Program Files(x86)\Star Wars Rebellion\ or for Reloaded, in \Program Files(x86)\Star Wars Reloaded\ ...

Been looking for a X64 installer for a while and while there is one on here, is there just a download link to the X64 installer, without any of the total conversion stuff?

I see the value in the TC I just don't want to play it so it's installers, patches, and whatnot are not needed for myself.

also, why are you using media fire when you have a deadicated host?

I don't think this thread will ever die. Budious, you've created an eternal thread! Woot!

I would love to see an automated process that installs this, or installs Reloaded in full. Preferably both.

As you've deconstructed RebEd as part of this project, I was wondering... can you add in the 'AI value' variable? SWREditor had it, though I'm not 100% sure what it did. When I tested it years ago, it seemed to be a number the AI used to compute the value of a unit; i.e. higher values meant a ship was more powerful, and an algorithim must have computed the AI value and the costs together to determine when a ship should be built, when to retreat, etc. But as I said, I was never 100% sure that is what the value was.

In short, it would be interesting to have that variable explained to me, and/or put into RebEd if possible. To my knowledge, that's the only thing SWREditor had that RebEd didn't.

Xan, you are correct about the "AI value" data field in that it affects the tactical battles. I hope that these values are "calculated" based on ship stats, but you never know what gets "hard coded" for a quick fix :? (to get the game out the door). The one thing I personally observed was when I replaced the Alliance Corellian gunship with a Golan III battlestation (stats via RebEd), was that the Golan had the tendency to "chase down" enemy fighters :? Of course the "AI value" couldn't be changed with RebEd, but I did eventually change it with SWRE editor. I just don't remember if that had a big change in combat tactics. I just remember that the "gunship slot" always tended to act like a gunship. Anyways, I might try to look into ship stats and AI value calculation, but that is really going to be some guess work (I remember trying this a couple of times before; I could never get more than a couple of ships to "match up" at any one time).

Here are the current default AI Values for the ships:

Mon Calamari Cruiser..... 42

Bulk Cruiser.................. 15

Assault Frigate.............. 30

Nebulon-B Frigate......... 15

Escort Carrier................ 10

Corellian Corvette......... 7

Medium Transport......... 3

Bulk Transport.............. 6

Corellian gunship.......... 5

Dreadnaught................ 19

CC-7700 Frigate........... 17

Bulwark Battlecruiser.... 110

Liberator Cruiser........... 34

CC-9600 Frigate............ 28

Dauntless Cruiser.......... 62

Striker Cruiser................. 34

Lancer Frigate................. 7

Interdictor Cruiser........... 16

Carrack Light Cruiser....... 13

Victory Star Destroyer...... 30

Star Destroyer................. 47

Super Star Destroyer..... 120

Assault Transport............ 5

Death Star..................... 250

Galleon............................ 3

Victory II Star Destroyer.. 34

Star Destroyer II............. 70

Star Galleon..................... 5

Escort Carrier.................. 11

Dreadnaught................... 19

For now when I make ship changes, I just look at comparable ships and pick a value near those.

Just my two bits worth

The only thing I can say about the AI building ships, is that it always has the tendency to build the latest researched vessel. Occasionally it would be other/older ships but I could never figure out the reasoning for its choices (AI = Artifical Idiot for this game). I don't think the "AI value" affected which ships get built per se, but you never know.

I've seen the AI try to build latest tech ships at facilities that only had 1 shipyard (ETA to completion - 300+ days), while multi shipyard facilities are building fighters or transports, etc. That could just be the "AI" for all I know.

I know its possible to influence the AI ship building decisions, as I had a build in which the AI built nothing but CC-9600s. They literally had a fleet with fifty of those, but nothing else. A fleet of 50 anythings is pretty big for the AI. But if I recall, I didn't modify the AI value directly in that game, only the stats.

Maybe I'll just make the AI value on medium transports astronomical, and see if they build them by the dozen

I'm sure you guys are sick of this question, but I'm having trouble installing Rebellion on my new Windows 7 laptop. I've seemingly followed all of the trouble shooting guides and instructions but still it doesn't work. When I click on the REBEXE.exe, I get a black screen that runs. I see the program icon (stormtrooper head) running on my program bar below but no actual Rebellion program. It doesn't appear in my task bar either. All of the folders are copied the same, I've "merged" the appropriate files that you're suppose to download, downloaded and installed the correct dll's, and still nothing. Any suggestions?

It sucks ... I was pumped to re-load this game on a new, blazing speed laptop and now it won't work. Kind of a heart breaker. I use to love this game!

If you want to skip the bs and learn to use Virtualbox you can go that route. Virtualbox is a free download, you will need a copy of 32-bit Windows XP though. Consult the many guides through google on how to setup Virtualbox and a guest os. Once you have it installed you can run rebellion inside the virtual os, the upside to this approach is you can run the virtual os in scaling mode.

Result looks like this: http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4869/swrebellion.png

I sent you a PM with a link, but I think the messaging system is down. So I sent an email.

I'm fine with giving the link to a few people, but I'm not making it public, since it is on my drop box. I don't have any accounts with mediafire or similar services. If someone else can re-upload the file somewhere public, that would be best.

Just to be clear, I am not taking any payment for this, nor any credit. The package was not put together by me, I did no work on it, and all credit goes to the original author(s). I can offer only limited support if you have issues with it.
