The Syfo-Dias was a real person, a real Jedi everyone knew him, then he died under circumstances unknown.

 

Dooku & Palpatine took advantage of the situation and usurped the dead Jedi's identity to place the order. Jango, we know, met Tyranus and had him become the templet. Dooku was obeying Palpatine's orders at the time, so that within ten years of the Naboo thing, Palpatine had his grand army ready when he needed it.

As for Qui-Gon I don't see him ordering the clones, as much as he broke with the system, he wouldn't have done such a thing, he was a JEdi after all.

Someone ordering them under the guise of Syfo-Dias to me seems the most credible explanation so far...

Qui-Gon was an uncommon kind of Jedi but he still stuck to their ideals. The second possibility is the most probable.

Yeah, the theory that Sidious did it makes a lot of sense. Hopefully Episode III will clear it all up.

Why would Qui-Gon order an army?

Exactly, it would have been a stupid move on Qui Gon's part. Hes a smart guy, he would have known that drafting (so to speak) that army would have lead to war, I gaurentee he didnt want that.

Second remarque. Where would he get the money? For all I know growing an entire army of clones doesn't cost nothing add to that the fact that he would also had to pay for the construction of an ship armada. Unless he secretly owned a few sectors I don't see how he could have done it.

Well, it is possible that the afreement was that payment would be recieved upon inspection and agreement that the clone army was up-to-par with what they were buying. Since it would cost more than is humanly possible to imagine, you'd want to be sure you were getting what you payed for.

That's true, but then how would Yoda pay for it? He's one of the greatest Jedi, but I don't think they get payed that large a salary...

Technically I believe all jedi activities would be financed by the Republic. In exchange the jedi would protect and maintain peace.

Would the jedi be 'financed' by the Republic or would it be more like if they needed something, the Republic would supply it? I didn't think they'd really need or use money much.

They probably have investments in whatever passes for a stock market. I don't think they could have such a grandiose temple, but not use money.

Still, it would be suspicious to see Qui Gon withdraw X amount of money for no apparent reason. The amount of money required for something liek that would be huge.

And also, he would have to clear it with the Jedi Council before taking out Jedi money to spend on an army, surely they would have caught wind of the idea and stopped it.

I'm sure the Jedi had investments but I agree that Qui-Gon would have had considerable trouble withdrawing large amounts from them... Then again, the real Syfo-Dias wouldn't probably have been able to go about this unnoticed either...

Unless he had said amount of money previously saved, or he was financed by outsiders (trade federation, techno union, etc..)

Or he laundered money from the Republic through his oen cunning or Palpatine.

He would have to have either scammed money off of the Republic or potentially used other means of paying for the army- like force or threats! I just want to know, did the real Syfo-dias make the order for the army?

I don't think the real Sifo-Dyas had anything to do with it, I think it was Dooku with funds from his separatist group that ordered the clones, after all Dooku did not care if they won or were defeated at Geonosis, all he was interested was in starting a war.
