  1. i never noticed any lag with the .45 version, but my comp is also way overpowered for a game this old anyway. the issue was a combination of too many weapons and shields, so in .6 the weaps and shields were done away with, and the hull recharge rate was jacked up to compensate. this pretty much means that .45 ships are useless against .6 ships, because they get all their weaps fried right away.
  2. i would believe it. ive actually been kind of interested in that one since i heard about it. my only beef is that i cant have stromy armor in it... wouldnt be hard to beat out eve for depth of play at least, but it would be quite the feat to do so against galaxies
  3. when you play vs cpu, is the cpu hig/vayg? because if your not using any of the original hw2 factions, the game shouldnt reference those .bigs at all, im not sure why it would be laggy. the mod is kind of touchy, but well worth the effort to get it running
  4. i wouldnt hold my breath, galaxies is pretty much dead. they got a little bit of the fan base back with the recent updates, but its still less than a tenth of the game population before nge. if that does happen though, then ill be back in to it for sure. hopefully my old guild is still around.
  5. most of that was supposed to be in the works for the next galaxies expansion. galaxies was ALL pvp though, single player type anything was terrible in it. for some, like me, there was nothing better than donning my full suit of modded stormtrooper armor, grabbing my c-m reaper sniper rifle, and going out with 50 other imperials to take a base from 50 rebel players. if thats not your bag, galaxies sucked for you. space was the same way.
  6. ive checked out a couple of these mods for galaxies, and i have to say, i dont think galaxies really warrants a mod. id settle for someone just making a mod for pre-nge RotW era galaxies. the game was perfect then, hands down the best game in existence at the time. then they "enhanced" it.
  7. if done right, i think it could be great. that said, the chances of it being done right are next to nil. a better idea would be to fix galaxies, then i could go back to blissfully wasting my life. also, some people just dont like the mmo gameplay style. i do, but i also tend to have monstrous amounts of time on my hands, and enjoy working for the end result. it took me 2 years of dicking around to finally get really good at galaxies, but once i was there, i loved every minute. in my opinion, bioware should fix galaxies, not release a new game.
  8. my only suggestion at this point then would be to run the game in english and see if tht works. but in the log you posted, it doesnt say that there was a crash, it looks like it loaded just fine. just try the game in english to see if that works. if it does, then the german.big is the issue
  9. so it worked then? because there doesnt seem to be a crash in that log
  10. you can usually open the .dmp file with notepad, btw, but we dont need that file
  11. these are all the files you need for this release. PLANETPACK.BIG,SWSOUND.BIG,SWMUSIC.BIG,GENHODS.BIG,SHIPHODS.BIG,CORE.BIG,OLDSHIPS.BIG oldships.big is optional. no other files are needed.
  12. the best star wars flight sim is in Star Wars Galaxies, without question. very in-depth, great graphics, control, customization. unfortunately, SOE has thoroughly shat all over the rest of the game
  13. i posted this in another thread on this site. its a breakdown of the command line the first part of the shortcut should look like this, INCLUDING QUOTES "C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe" there is then a space, then: -mod PLANETPACK.BIG,SWSOUND.BIG,SWMUSIC.BIG,GENHODS.BIG,SHIPHODS.BIG,CORE.BIG,OLDSHIPS.BIG -luatrace -hardwarecursor there are spaces before the - in luatrace and hardware cursor. "C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe" -mod PLANETPACK.BIG,SWSOUND.BIG,SWMUSIC.BIG,GENHODS.BIG,SHIPHODS.BIG,CORE.BIG,OLDSHIPS.BIG -luatrace -hardwarecursor that should work, copy and paste. if c&p doesnt work, type it in manually, exactly as it appears, the .BIG files need to be in that order. kind of a pain, but its worth it Edit: if you have never played a warlords mod before, and want everyhing to work the same, remove the OLDSHIPS.BIG from the command line. this file adds in more ships from previous versions that have not been completely converted to 0.6. the game still works and is playable, but the older ships are much more vulnerable than the ones that have been converted.
  14. very messed up. ive never gotten it to launch
  15. first off, just do a copy and paste here to show us what your command line is. the only .big file that is really optional is the OLDSHIPS.Big, you need all the others. then, let us know what the settings for the skirmish game were. if you had an imperial cpu player, that is likely the problem.
  16. i know there is one. the Point Defense Systems mod has a gametype that actually brings up a window to select ships to start with when you start a game. the programming is there, i just dont know what they used.
  17. someone found that if they started a game without imps for the first game they played after opening the game, they could then play with an imp cpu player. so just start a game without imps, end it as soon as it starts, and then start a game with imps and see if it works. i have never heard of anyone having problems playing as imps, just against imp cpu's
  18. how is it that you guys are getting around the EULA for SWG? i know in there it states that private servers and games are prohibited, and i also know that sony tried to spaz out on the team that made the pre-cu and pre-nge emulators. i never wanted anything more out of swg than RotW CU gameplay. to me, that was the absolute incarnation of what SWG was meant to be, and the creators even stated as much at the time. NGE just before the beastmaster chapter wasnt even that bad, its actually when i started making a name for myself in MCO-E, but when BM came out, i was disgusted at how powerful a lvl 90 character with a lvl 90 pet was. as an officer, i couldnt compete anymore, so thats when i hung up the stormy armor for good. Ion cannons and other weapons that overload electrical systmes should have a much greater effect on shields, but shouldnt ignore them. as for the emitters on the sensor globes, sources seem to conflict about these being just minor sub-system shielding, or actual primary emitters. for example, when the globes on the bridge tower of the executer were destroyed, they said the bridge deflector was down. but on a ship the size of the executer, the bridge area was all the normal shield system from a vanilla ISD could cover, and there were numerous other pairs of globes over the rest of the hull of the SSD's. the MC cruiser shield generators are said to be in some of the blisters over the hull, again suggesting that while you are correct in saying that a single emitter only covers a small portion, these small protions do in fact make up the entire shielding system of ship, except in the cases of ships small enough to be covered entirely by one or two emitters. EJ- right, but the issue with EAW is that they act as if the particle shields dont exist, and i can say fairly certainly that whoever manufactured a sar destroyer without particle shields would have been force-choked with reckless abandon
  19. i keep coming across ship descriptions and pics and models and whatnot all over the place that i swear came out of warlords. i know they're all over the star wars wiki. just a testament to how outstanding this mod really is. one of my biggest issues with EAW in general was the shields. projectiles in cannon star wars do not ignore shields. they overpower them quickly, but they dont ignore them. if you wanted to get technical, then you could cite that ray shields and particle shields protect against energy and projectiles, but in every written description in the official star wars novels, all combat star ships with shields blocked both energy and matter. that, coupled with the tons of mass weapons that the ZC had in foc, made me want to vomit all over eaw. the game was a great idea, just done very badly. i do agree with the dark troopers though, i always loved those. it was kind of cool to run across the phase 2's as npcs in SWG too.
  20. i like that daydream premise. thats an example of a game i pirated and not only didnt buy, but promptly deleted. huge disappointment.
  21. titan is very cool, i use them for my cruiser cap. the other ships are cool, but when you have a limited cap, 5 ISDII's do better than 3 anythings and 2 ISDII's. (kinda miss 0.45 because of the ISDIII's, which dont work in 0.6 because of the lack of shields)
  22. there are definitely some games worth the price. the kotor games for example, i downloaded them first and wnt right to the store and bought them after i played for a couple days. im all about supporting game developers. just not crap developers. i have to use a no-cd for hw2 though, because the 2 discs i have are too messed up to start consistently, i even have to switch them in the middle of installation because they are messed up in different places and some files that arent readable on one are on the opther, but the installation wont start from that one.
  23. not every time, usually only once per book do they descibe a certain explosion. the x-wing series is probably the best reference for the various ship munitions.
  24. takes about 3 hours for 2gb if its seeded enough. my issue is that game prices are through the roof, and actually cost less to produce now than they did when they were exclusively console games. and most games coming out tend to suck, but there isnt a store on the planet that will let you return it like a defective microwave. so until one of those 2 things changes, ill pirate first, and buy if its good enough for online play.
  25. well in the case of other cruisers, its not a napoleon complex if the other guy is actually bigger.
