More than going to planet X, to conquer Planet Y, build up same force that you used to conquer planet Y, but now attack Planet Z.....and then rinse and repeat till you conquer them all. That is pretty much it, it is fairly linear, doesn't go much into anything besides that. No diplomacy, no hero missions, no permanent hero death, so who cares if I use darth vader for every single battle, if he dies I lose him for a couple turns (big deal), no real reasearch, the game experience is the same no matter how many times you play it (natives are on the same side everytime, planets have the same amount of spaces, bases are always in the same place)..... Don't get me wrong, I am still playing the game and still having fun, but the game is far from a classic. It had the potential, but they went with making things simple instead of making a complex game with a lot of replay value. I am still holding out hope that some of the mods can pull off the game I, and many others, envisioned when we first heard about EAW.
-
EAW sold well, because of the Star Wars title. Sure the Star wars feeling made it fun, but if you took the star wars out of it would the game have been any good? probably not. Same with the battlefront games. That is how most star wars games are with the few exceptions of KOTOR, Rebellion, and the flight simulators. I just wish there were some more star wars games that were just stand alone great games, not just passable because they are star wars. But as has been said before, as long as these games keep selling, LA wont focus more on making classic games.

I agree, modders tend to know more of what the gamers want these days then the game makers. From the majority of people it seems like we all wanted a grand strategy game with lots of depth. Arcadish games are out; epic, openended, sandboxish games are the new hotness.

Fear: Rebels become 50% less accurate.

not really :-\

Plus it sounds like Popcorn is in on it, since he is a mod over there. So I'm thinking LA and Petro may have nothing to do with this, and it is just a Lucasforums April fools.

wow looks like the first mod i will actually download. -
Sounds very very much like an April Fool's joke. 1) Releasing an expansion with a full game is just a bad idea. People who would want it, have bought the game long ago and would not buy the game again. 2) They say they have listened to the fans on this, but because of this they know EA is despised for pulling crap off like this (tho I wouldn't put it past LA) 3) Why would they want to alienate the community and don't allow them patches who do not buy the game a 2nd time? It is just horrible business. 4) There are many more popular ways of doing this if you do want to make a quick buck (I don't think they do, I think they are waiting on the "ultimate expansion" they have been talking about) like have it as a downloadable patch on their site for a couple bucks. Never believe any announcements on April 1st. Personally if I were them I would have said "there are no plans to release any mod tools". I think that one would have been pretty funny. Edit: I just wonder if DM was in on it or not, haha.

Anakin is a tricky one, perhaps Qui-gon talked to him to haha.

Re: Good news but only for your consideration for the moment ;-)

I don't see why they would be angry. They have said if they had the resources they would want there own servers, but Gamespy was there only option. -

Wow, 4 weeks!? hmmmm, as long as they don't hire someone from SWG haha. -
I am still holding on to hope that they are lying.....I mean it wouldn't be the first time they gave us false information. I still find it funny about there cross country "town hall meetings". For what, the 46 people who still play SWG, way to use your resources SOE and LA :

Check out that long quote: It is going to be all CGI and 30 mins long an episode.

I highly doubt LA would ever make a free MMORPG. Only way this would happen is if the rest of the market went this way and that wont happen any time soon with the sucess of WOW. Anyway SOE is deny this and deleting threads. Bioware has supposedly said something that kind of sounds like denying it, but is more than likely saying "wait for the official press release". Can't seem to find a source for it tho. Something else interesting that was released not to long ago: Hmm and taking some of the main people for SOE? interesting, very interesting.

This is in relation to that other SWG rumor thread, but this new one is so big it needs its own seperate thread. http://mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm?load=forums&loadforum=433&loadthread=71629&setstart=1&loadclass=103&fp=1280,1024,2641726015,20060321165635 ;D The last one was right, SOE is being dropped! And in bigger new Bioware is going to be working on it!

Lucasarts really needs to come up with its own online service. It has shot them selves in the foot many time, SWG probably the major one.

Yea I wished they included more on planets that would really make you get the feel for it. From what I heard they have data for some wookiee vehicles for EPIII. Endor and Tatooine could have a lot more, because they both have been explored a lot in the star wars universe. Only problem is the maps would probably need to be bigger and you would need diplomacy, because it wouldn't be fair for the other side to fight a whole secondary army everytime they tried to take that planet. What side they are fighting could change from rebel to imperial depending on who is using diplomacy there. Tatooine definitely needs the Krayt dragon. As for Jabba, I don't think he should be on the rebel or imperial side, because he would side with either. He would need his own faction, using skiffs and the hutt fighters and things.

If you couldn't tell I was joking. I was saying since the people got mad (not me personally, I find it funny when people get upset over it) when the prequels contradicted EU they got upset. So with 100 more hours of GL star wars there is sure going to be lots of contradictions to upset the EU fan base. Try to understand what I am saying before you attempt to flame. As for: Yea....I am the one who posted this info, Lucas has said it will be about new and secondary characters, but look what happened with Boba, it will still upset the EU fans.

It was complex and a lot to take in at once, but it really wasn't that much of a learning curve. I picked it up really quickly and I was like what, 12, at the time. The complexity never impeaded my gameplay and it made each game unique and made me able to comeback to this day and still have fun with it. EAW is really flashy, and can be lots of fun, but gameplay is dumbed down. Basic strategy choices like "how many of each fighter you want to put in your capital ship" or "what ships I want to send in to battle first" have been taken out in order to keep things simple. So as I have stated before you can be too complex (rebellion) and to simple (EAW) so I am hoping with mods and/or expansions we can reach somesort of middle ground.

I think you should be encouraged to lead the battle, but I think the current autoresolve is way to harsh. It should be fixed to atleast be somewhat realistic. Autoresolve is in the game and it should be somewhat usable, at this point it isn't at all.

;D I like this touch, and glad to see that the LAAT will finally make it into the game. -
Imperial Assault 2: Rise of the Empire

Aww got my hopes up on the last one, I first thought it was one of the Naboo Crusiers. -
Doubt there will be anytime soon. Eventually there will be an all 6 boxset which may have the option to buy the 2 trilogies seperate. This wouldn't be untill late 2007 at the earliest.
