  1. I'm among one of the 20 most hated students on my campus. Ironically, I'm among one of the 20 most loved students on campus. I say 20 because I can't be sure that there aren't people that don't belong to my governance group that push some of us down. I'm the VP of the UW - Platteville Segregated University Fee Allocation Commission. We are the monetary side of student government. Our annual budget is over $600K. The reason so many people end up hating us is that we get requests for $1.2-1.5 million every year. Obviously we can't please everyone.
  2. It actually wasn't a joke. I walked away from the mormon 'church' (lower case M intentional) several years ago. I recently came to the realization that they're founded on a lie. I look at the practices that Joe Smith Jr espoused and can't help but think of him as a charlatan. I look at scholarly sources of history from the 1830s and '40s and they don't come close to matching the official history that I grew up being taught. The way I look at Mormonism the mainstreamers are nothing more than apostates. The fundamentalists are the ones following their founder. If you want to be a real Mormon you need to practice polygamy. By the same token the Bible bans the practice. So one must ask themselves, "Do I follow the Bible, or do I follow a book of "scripture" that was "translated" by looking into a hat?" Seems to me that any thinking human being would avoid the cult formed from staring into the hat. Xan, did you know that Smith "translated" the BOM by staring at a stone in his hat? Did you know that he was marrying 14 year old girls? Are you aware that polygamy was practiced long after the Manifesto? You're a college student. Where are you going to school? Anyone that's really interested in this line of discussion can feel free to PM me or point me to a religion thread. I'm happy to share my thoughts and/or hear/read yours.
  3. The plan is to graduate in May and get married in early June. If you hadn't thrown two years of your life down the drain following the brainwashing successors of a liar and con-man you could be a senior now, Xan.
  4. Tofu, if you drop out of sight as I've done who will carry on the glorious tradition of spamming with Mad? We can't both leave it up to him. You must recruit your replacement before you follow me. As far as what happened to me goes, well, life. I'm the VP of a student governance group on my campus. Next weekend we will allocate between $640,000 and 660,000. It's not a fun weekend. I'll likely have a couple drinks each night as a result. On top of preparing for this I have to work on the numbers for my psych research project. The abstract for that needs to be submitted by next Friday. It is my plan to present at an undergrad psych conferance in two weeks. When that's done I have a 52 min presentation to prepare. Additionally I have to put one of our Deans in her place. Liberal Arts people don't play well with money. That's the rest of this semester. Hopefully I make it through.
  5. Hello again, and welcome to all the new members! I need to come back and start at page 9 on this thread to meet some new people. I just thought I'd stop in and kill some time before I go home and get ready for work. I'll try and stop in again tonight after work. Later, guys!
  6. Tofu, I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say that Scath's pinkie toe knows more about sarcasm than you do. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Xan! Welcome back! My younger brother goes to Idaho. He's nowhere near as interested in SW as either of us are. He's on the Summer/Fall rotation. I don't know if you'll have anything to do with him, but he's planning on leaving for his mission by the end of this calendar year. Once again, welcome back.
  7. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the day Lucas dies is the day he stops f***ing up one of my favorite series.
  8. I'll get back to you when I get time to read it.
  9. I would be interested in one. Especially if it means my PM's here get sent to that address.
  10. My buddy likes his, Mad.
  11. Be sure that you do.
  12. Then there's this one.
  13. It's snowing right now. Not much is sticking though. At least I don't have to shovel again.
  14. If you make it to the midwest, look me up.
  15. It'll be a while before I graduate. Let's just leave it at that for the time being.
  16. Oh, but Krytos, you can't hold Tofu against the rest of us.
  17. I never have cared for wine.
  18. I'll try and fit them into the list of close to 50 books I either want or am supposed to read. Getting old sucks.
  19. I liked the saber-tooth. All good work, J. Keep it up.
  20. I just want to point out that the unemployment rate doesn't actually look at the number of people that are without a job. If you're jobless for x number of years, you are no longer taken into account. (I forget what the number is/how they calculate the percentage, and I'm not worried about it right now. I'll look it up later if someone is really interested.) @Eagle and LLF: I understand what you're saying about change. That is actually one of the reasons I like Obama so much. If you look at his campaign contributions you won't find a single lobbyist. Nor will you find a single "special-interest" group. I put the quotes in because everyone, and every group, has a special-interest. Obama, at least on the surface, wants to revamp the system here. He wants to, well, here. It's detailed and explained better there than I can do here.
  21. My brother brought some of those back from Germany when he was there for an exchange program in HS. @Underdog: I'm doing great. How's life treating you?
  22. It hit 50 degrees today. I was really happy it was windy. I would've been sweating bullets otherwise.
  23. Before I got absolutely trashed with my shrink, who happens to be my best friend from HS, in celebration of my engagement the only beer I liked was Spotted Cow. You can only buy it in Wisconsin. It's made at the New Glarus Brewery in New Glarus, WI. That night I had half a bottle of Hypnotiq (sp?) and about a dozen cans of keystone light. That stuff has no taste, but after that half bottle, I was feeling pretty good, so I didn't care. Anyway, I ended up getting sick that night and haven't cared for alcohol since.
  24. That's wrong. Horribly so. She's Catholic. She's also very, very much against abortion. She's more vocal about it that anyone else I know.
  25. Oh, come on Rob. Everyone on here that knows me knows I don't mean half the sh!t that comes out of my mouth, or in this case, the things I type.
