  1. It seems possible, in theory, that you could find the .DLL or whichever of the EDATA or GDATA files governs initial setup, then remove the fleet regiments from said file. I haven't spent enough time messing with those files, however, so I can't point you to the proper location. If you're on Discord, I've gotten the impression that TruthRealm could likely point you in the right direction.
  2. I've seemed to check in every time the forums were in a read only state, then I'd leave for a year or three.
  3. How is is that in 22 years I only discovered 1 of these? Thank you, Strel!
  4. A month late, but welcome back LLF.
  5. So my laptop, purchased in January 2006, has taken another turn for the scrap heap. Until such time as I can replace the hard drive and some form of optic drive (internal or external, though internal would be preferred), or I can afford to replace it outright, I won't be playing any PC based games. That being said, I have recently acquired Venetica and Assassin's Creed IV. Venetica was not very well made, but is still worth one play through (so far). My wife got it for me for my birthday, and gave it to me about 2.5 weeks early (the night it arrived). AC4 showed up about a week later, and Venetica got set aside. So far I am loving AC4. Nearly the entire map is open. You can go from running around on foot to jumping in the sea, swimming out to your ship, taking the wheel and sailing to the next destination without waiting for a loading screen. I think in my explorations so far there are only ~4 cities where you can't get directly from the sea to the city without game mechanics and loading in the way. Another neat feature in this one is their mini game management. Since Brotherhood (third AC title released) there has been some sort of mini game. Brotherhood and Revelations had you training your recruits, 3 and 4 have you trading as a way to earn additional gold. The switch in 4 is that you can manage your trade empire off console. I use my iPad because my compy is out of commission, and earn ~20k Reales overnight. I have a problem putting the controller down with this game. I got it the day it was released (never done that before), and ended up staying up until 1:30 the next morning. I had to work at 9:30 the next morning, and would have stayed up much later had my wife not noticed the time, so, yeah.
  6. I would say it denies the system to the Empire unless they want to expend additional effort.
  7. Not this time. I had enough challenges getting off the starting block this last time. Giving the AI such a colossal advantage from the start is like shooting yourself in the calf before a foot race. Yeah, you can still run if you can convince your body to release the right neurotransmitters, but it cripples you. Then there's the blood loss which just compounds the problem, and I'm assuming we missed all important nerves and blood vessels. Doing what you suggest, RogueIce, would be like going for both calves, and maybe adding a knife to the gut just for good measure. Still, maybe game three?
  8. Yes, but to do that I would need to use my wife's computer to create the iso file. I'll look into it this weekend.
  9. Thanks for the links. Did you happen to notice if there are any problems with the mods and the no CD crack? My optic drive doesn't currently work. I'd look myself, but I barely have time to be on here tonight.
  10. That would be my assumption, but I've never really paid attention to confirm or deny.
  11. I hadn't ever considered it until the other day. My only thought was HQ costs 1 energy point, so it should work.
  12. I haven't ever looked. If you find it I would be appreciative.
  13. I haven't ruled it out, and it will probably by my next Rebellion challenge. See if I can accomplish what Thrawn was prevented from as a result of betrayal.
  14. To my recollection it hasn't happened during one of my games. I would guess the same as what happens with fighter squadrons: they turn around. Thought: constantly move HQ from one Outer Rim previously un-colonized system to the next. You constantly have your HQ in transit making it safe, and you colonize system after system. All you have to do is send a few diplomats with a ~60+ diplomacy rating in the HQ's wake, and you have the full support of the Rim without having to wait for your CYs to get things built.
  15. You could print the Word doc as a PDF and upload that. I'm not sure what options there are for text formatting locks.
  16. Answer is here, Xan. We were getting off topic, so I'm redirecting.
  17. So I'm redirecting a conversation from here, and trying to follow the 50 page per thread rule at the same time. Xan asked if I had played Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in addition to having previously (and now restarting) ES3: Morrowind, and which I thought was better. The answer is yes, I have played Oblivion. The game mechanics themselves are equivalent: every action results in some sort of experience boost, though from memory I can't say whether of not the classes of magic are the same. Trainers work the same, and you can join, and eventually lead, any clans/factions/guilds which aren't in direct opposition to each other (not entirely sure there are any either/or options). The biggest change, aside from improved graphics and a new location (new timeframe, too?), is that they fixed the journal system. Pre-ES4 all information regarding mission/quest status was entered in personal journal style (information learned regarding quest x on day 22 gets buried by information learned regarding quests a, b, c, d and e on day 23-50), and the information is not always easily found if you get a quest but don't act on it right away. In ES4 they adopted a system that made it much easier to find quest info.
  18. Google docs. Set up a "Master_Xan" Google account (if you haven't already) and just upload the .doc(x) to the drive. Save it there as a public document.
  19. Everything said here so far is very good, and there's really not much more I have to add. I like to set this one up on the far side of the galaxy. I find that if the AI does stumble onto my HQ they either have already or will soon visit the other systems in that sector. By leaving the sector you don't have to move again as soon. Additionally, by sending the HQ all the way across the galaxy you protect it for 100+ days. The last game I played as the Rebels my HQ spent 157 days in hyperspace. The system it was moving to had 3 new Gencore 2s and 2 new LNR 2s built and delivered in the time it took the HQ to arrive.
  20. I haven't been able to put my hands on Skyrim yet, mostly because I'm cheap.
  21. I actually haven't given that much thought, Xan. I think right now I'm going to go play Morrowind for a while. I haven't ever played all the way through it because I disliked the journal/quest information format. So I'll just pursue one quest at a time.
  22. That I can't tell you. I don't often follow ships. I tend to focus on my target so I know when to reassign targets.
  23. I actually paid attention during last nights big battle. Priority number 1 for capital ship targets is ships carrying Admirals, Generals and Commanders, after that we go to the newest/strongest ship type in the fleet. For argument's sake we'll say Bulwarks. All Bulwarks carrying personnel have priority, oldest to newest. From there we go to Bulwarks without personnel, oldest to newest. When all Bulwarks are destroyed we drop to Dauntlesses and repeat: Personnel old to new, non-personnel old to new. 'Oldest to newest' seems to be determined by order placement date: with no personnel Bulwark Battlecruiser 1 will be targeted before Bulwark Battlecruiser 2. Based on the way my cap ships were taken out last night I think, though I can't confirm this without further research, ship type priorities are based on research values. I plan to eliminate research values (make all ships available at the start of the game) and try again. I think this will help establish how priorities are assigned. Maybe a fleet of 1 Bulwark, 1 Dauntless, 1 Liberator, 1 Assault Frigate, 1 9600, 1 7700, 1 Mon Cal and 1 Neb-B. I would want to keep it to 8 ships so I can easily assign one ship to each task force. Let me know if that helps, and I'll do some more research for the hell of it.
  24. I like getting the Force-boost to all stats, but 0*any number is still 0. I was trying to think more long-term, not caring that I had half-a-dozen non-Jedi diplomats who would always be better at it than Wedge.
  25. It will be three years at the end of next month. I haven't met anyone else in the real world, and with the amount of driving I do now for work I'm not sure how far I'd be willing to go to meet up with people. I suppose if enough people were getting together somewhere reasonably close I could probably swing by.
