lol- I'm among the first, though not for UFOs. It was decidedly not a star of any sort, and I don't think it could have been a reflection. My window was down, and the thing was pretty big. It was probably around one fourth again the diameter of a new moon. I got the impression that it was following me, but this was over a year ago, so I don't remember very clearly, unfortunately. I remember losing it when I got home, though, which was odd. I was heading south, and it was on my left, so that would place it in the East, I guess. It certainly looked like a second sun, that much I remember. It was too big to be a planet out in space, though.

I wish there were enough people where I live that I could do this and remain (relatively) anonymous.

Current/Recent World Conflicts thread.
DarthTofu replied to Defender_16's topic in Outside Interests
Russia wants Washington to mediate, and Georgia is pushing for the US to support them (Georgia) with military aid. I think it's a distinct possibility that the United States will mediate this one. Though it'll suck if the invasion managed to take advantage of the current administration's "lame duck" status. -
Current/Recent World Conflicts thread.
DarthTofu replied to Defender_16's topic in Outside Interests
So, how's this for a current/recent world conflict: Russia and Georgia are at war. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/aug/09/russia.georgia The two are full-out mobilized against one another, now. Here's hoping this doesn't end badly; I'm almost eighteen. -
This is why I love Chaser's War on Everything...

I'm going to laugh when it gives him superpowers or something.... especially when he uses them to become a super villain instead of a super hero.

I would like to think that I have contributed my $0.02 to each discussion on the forum and if Evaders had a nickel for every time I've made that claim I might have been darn near a JFK silver half $ by now. Guess I'll have to pony up the other $24.51 through paypal now to contend with the noob. Welcome to the site. ... Riddler's Riddle ... Solve the equation above and I'll through in an extra $5 You've made the claim 9 times (9 x 5 is 45) and you've contributed your $0.02 worth twice (2 x 2 is 4). 4 + 45 is 49, thus I solved your riddle. Now throw in five dollars, and say that it's from me, because I just mooch off of this site and use it to socialize.

Umm... okay, I didn't see the poll before, and haven't kept up with this topic, but I'm the second person to say that I've seen a UFO. It wasn't exactly a UFO, per se, so much as an odd... well, second sun, to tell the truth. It was late afternoon, and I was driving home from a friend's house. The sun sets on my left hand side as I drive home, so when I first saw the second sun thing I didn't think anything of it... before I noticed that it didn't hurt to look at it, and that it was sunset. Whatever that thing was, it seemed like it was pacing me as I drove home. I mean, it was potentially in space or something, so it wasn't really pacing me, but that was the feeling I got... it was pretty weird.

I just picked up Europa Universalis: Rome. I thought I was getting Rome: Total War, just with both of the expansion packs- really should have noticed that it said "Paradox" on it instead of "Sega" for the folks who made it. >.< All the same, it looks like I might have made a pretty good mistake. Europa Universalis appears to be (appears being the key word- I've not installed it yet) Rebellion with better graphics, set on Earth, with the Romans battling each other. I've only skimmed the manual (I tried to return it when I realized that I'd screwed up; the screenshots looked like they were from Rome: Total War!), but it looks like Rebellion meets Civ IV in a lot of ways. If it's good, I'll recommend it. Maybe one of our modders will jump on it and start turning it into a legit Rebellion II, eh? I'm both excited and apprehensive. If worst comes to worst, I just waste thirty-five bucks in store credit, plus six or seven out of my own pocket. Edit: I still haven't played it- I haven't even finished reading the manual- but this looks a lot like a Rebellion-style game, with elements of Civ IV and Risk-style play. It's definitely detail-based; you set up your own trade routes, in fact, to get resources to different provinces as needed. And there appear to be a lot of provinces (think of them as the equivalent of Rebellion planets... only the last title, Europa Universalis III, had 1500 provinces- this one may or may not have more), but I think there will be a "let the computer take care of it for you" button somewhere. This game is described as "Grand strategy game" as opposed to an RTS, which means that, rather than pointing and clicking to send lots and lots of little men off to attack lots and lots of other little men, you assemble an army that has attrition rates based on supplies, moral, location, etc. and send a large digital man to attack another large digital man, with each of your digital men representing armies. Then, based upon the composition of your army and the composition of the other guy's army, as well as moral, supplies, terrain, etc. a modified dice roll determines whether or not you win in the battle. There's a lot of stuff in here that I remember people wanting for Rebellion II. For instance, to build ships, a province must A) be connected to the water, B) Have access to wood (via trade or natural growth nearby) and C) have the manpower to do it. The whole thing operates on the Rebellion-style day-counting clock, with certain actions taking a certain number of days to complete rather than a certain number of "turns" (Six months in game time, if you're playing Rome: Total War) to complete. Users commented on how you have to start and stop the speedups on a regular basis. Once I've actually played this beast, I'll be able to give it a better review and see if it really is a great Rebellion-style game for folks on the forum to try out. Right now, it really looks like it might be. It appears that I made a rather lucky mistake. XD

lol- only you would take a topic entitled "Jokes" and talk about a high suicide rate, LLF. Actually, no. Half a dozen other forum members would probably do that. Hell, even I would probably do that, and not just out of a desire to keep people from thinking that I'm generally chipper- just because I'd find that to be a semi-funny joke. Which is probably really, really morbid. An actual (offensive) joke. Two nuns are walking along when suddenly a pair of rapists jump out and attack them, committing their crime. "Father, bless him! He knows not what he does!" cries the first nun. The second nun shakes her head sadly and says, "Mine does."

Soooooooo... Who was the brave soul who went out and bought SoulCalibur IV,to act as Guinea Pig for the rest of the forum members? Granted, that's assuming that a forum member has a PS3 of XBox 360 (I own neither), but still...

So, who here remembers It was on about a year back, and I abruptly canceled it after that one episode. Not because I didn't want to do it, or because I didn't like the script that I wrote up for it, but because it was just too much work to make a full episode- we had to go all over our little island, and we needed too many people to be in one place at once, and we didn't want to try to do extra takes, etc. So we ("we" being myself, Adam, and the other Chris) decided not to shoot any more Road Trip from Hell and to just make other dumb movies- like PPR (Private Public Radio). My girlfriend caught wiff of that and decided that she liked Road Trip from Hell too much to see it go. Adam and I agreed to redo the first episode and finish the show from then on out if she could get twenty-five signatures on a petition. At the moment, she has six. Thus, I suppose I'm obligated to be a good boyfriend and post her petition vid here on the forums, where it's actually likely that somebody will "sign." Thus, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDvvvnovNT0 I'm also doing this in part to brag, but don't pass that along.

Yup. It's particularly fun to use it on the penultimate level, when you get there. Particularly if you beat the game on Hard beforehand. It adds a whole new level of difficulty, even whilst on easy, if you play it with the code and no god mode.

Oh, totally. Zombies can only be logically explained by something illogical- an act of some supernatural being. Really, I don't think there's anything on Earth (or beyond it, for that matter) that could bring about a Zombie. It's sort of like a Death Star: Really cool, and with an awesome effect, but ultimately and it's entirely unfeasible. I just got back from Wall-E a little while ago. It was a pretty good movie all things considered, if you're willing to tone it down a little bit to a kid's movie. Throw-ins were nice, such as a computer called "Auto" that was a very clear parody of Hal, from 2001: A Space Oddysey, and what looks like a much younger Captain Smith, who captained the Titanic (I may be wrong about the name) as the first captain of an intergalactic vessel. It's a bit campy, so you can't go in there expecting anything beyond the level of Finding Nemo, but it's done well. I don't think anyone on the forum would watch it and not enjoy it.

lol- you just need to progress farther in the game. There are three lightsaber attack styles: Beginner (blue bar in your Force counter), Fast (yellow bar in your Force counter), and Hard (red bar in your Force counter). Each attack has its ups and downs, though fast and hard are obviously the two best styles of combat. As you progress in the game you learn new Force skills- and new styles of lightsaber combat. I think when you get to the end of the Bespin missions you'll be able to use fast style. It's been a while since I played the whole game through. I just like playing the penultimate level with my saberrealisticcombat cheat. Have you used that cheat yet? You won't regret it.

Can Vader absorb/deflect Force Lightning?
DarthTofu replied to Sinister's topic in General Discussion
According to I, Jedi Vader actually absorbed the energy from the blaster bolts. How that worked with his prosthetic hand, I don't know. I always sort of assumed that it was an armor thing until I read that, but I could be wrong. In fact, I don' remember if that use of the "Talk to the Hand" (Nice title, there) stunt was ever said to be a force absorption technique. You were just meant to assume it, since Jacen did it in Betrayal. Back when he still was Jacen, and not a badass Sith Lord that should have survived for much longer and killed more Jedi and- right, Darth Vader. I say that he had a remarkable degree of Force power, and could exert it over his limbs when he had to/wanted to, but was unable to do it that last time, because he wasn't focused enough. That, or because Palpy was just that strong. Remember, Yoda had trouble with Dooku, who was way weaker in the Force. It stands to reason that a weakened Anakin, who was out of practice, would get his skull fried by Palpy, who still had full Force Power flowing through him. -
What'd they do to Resident Evil? I heard from some horror-happy friends of mine that the movies were pretty good. I never watched 'em.

Ship names? Let's see, there's Widow Maker, though the Imps went on to use that one, so you might not want to. The Pirate's Wrath, Alpha Storm, Gunslinger, Delphinus, Holy-Cow,-Tofu's-taking-all-of-these-names-from-Skies-of-Arcadia.... Those are my ideas, at any rate. Who all is on board, pirate-wise? Good pirates or bad pirates?

Bwahaha! My sinister plot is working! I'm looking forward to the movie version of World War Z. I mentioned that book in the "Books" thread, having tried it after SOCL's recommendation; best... book... ever. Well, maybe not the best, but it's certainly my favorite mocumentary/horror book! Max Brooks is planning to help with the film, and I think they'll be hard pressed to screw it up.

What the heck does the "JI" stand for in "Old Star Wars games nobody plays anymore -JI?" It's been bothering me for a good solid three years, since I joined this site. Well, maybe not that long, but for a large chunk of it. Just like the improper grammar in Tex's sig. ("There are only two of you, not "there's only two of us." Plural linking verbs, man! Plural linking verbs!)

It's absurd! It's insane! It's: Another home movie! From the minds that brought you Road Trip From Hell: Episode One and none of the other six episodes that I wrote scripts for.... From the actors who starred in Anthology... From the stupidity that dictated Aliens: In Low Def comes... Private Public Radio! PPR is dedicated to those who could care less about actual accuracy in their news! I give you our first and second broadcasts. Keep in mind that we are acting and playing persons other than ourselves. And yes, I know that I typo'd the title. I just don't know how to fix it.

We were talking Best of PC 2006, I think, but X-wing was still in best of PC 1996, I think. I remember playing it and thinking that it was the most awesome thing ever at the time. In fact, I still think that was one of the most awesome games ever. Had it featured TIE Fighter's ability to see how damaged your enemy's shield/hull was, it would be golden. We really need another flight simulator game for the PC. It's high time the joystick made a comeback!
