Team Gizka Restoration Project
DarthTofu replied to DarthTofu's topic in Old Star Wars games nobody plays anymore -JI
I've lost faith in the project. I'm playing my bug-tastic version of KOTOR I (it keeps booting me off after about forty-five minutes of play, which is probably healthy... or would be if I didn't just restart the program after those forty-five minutes of play are up), and I'm selling KOTOR II online if somebody wants to buy it. KOTOR II failed to impress rather spectacularly. Decent game, but it was like most sequels are- The Name of the First One II: The Quest for More Money! -
I wear size fourteen shoes. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find size fourteen shoes? Whenever someone in my family sees them, they instantly buy them if I'm not there to try them on, because the four or five other people on my island with size fourteen feet will instantly try to swipe them if I don't. It's exasperating! But yeah- volleyball is my one semi-jock-tastic sport. Everything else, heck no. I suppose if there was an event called "marathon fumbling" or something I could win that, but that's about it. Ironic, because I always wanted to be on that show Guts when I was younger.

Welcome, Satrit. If my ****ing friend ever returns my copy of Rebellion (American version over here! ) I'll gladly challenge you. You'll likely kick my butt seeing as I've only ever played the AI, but I'll still challenge you.

I believe ("believe" being the key word) that Leia and Vader have to duke it out for her to find out. I remember seeing that Leia had discovered her heritage in my first game ever, when I played as the Rebs and took it very slowly, with an uber powerful fleet that had every single character I owned on it going one system at a time. (Took forever to beat that game.) But yeah- Leia vs. Darth = Jedi Leia.

I'm waiting for it to be shown on TV. Cartoon Network is bound to show it. I'll keep an eye out for the new episodes, but I don't plan to watch them religiously unless they prove to be worth it. *Thinks* You know, I don't watch anything religiously anymore. Not because I'm free of the iron grip of TV so much as there's nothing good on to watch anymore.

Potentially. In fact, I might be.... right behind you! Hehe- you told me that some time back. Well, that and I've noticed that people who spend excessive amounts of time on their computers tend to be either A) extremely tall or B) extremely short. You don't spend a specifically large amount of time on your computer, so judging by my observations, that would mean that you are of semi-average height, leaning towards tall or short. I know the relative size of the Stanley Cup, and so I could derive that you are moderately short. Well, that and you told me that you're 5' 4 some time ago when I bragged about my rather ridiculous 6' 4". Speaking of which- I've finally found a sport that my uncoordinated, gangly self can not only play decently, but play well. I am a freaking master of volleyball! Okay, so maybe not quite a "master" (more like a dilettante), but still. I'm used to being that kid everyone yells at to catch the ball who fails miserably. The highlight of my football career in eighth grade gym was catching the ball, having a clear breakaway to the touchdown zone, and promptly tripping over my own two feet to lose us the game by the least we'd ever lost it by. Now, however... now I can use my massiveness to my advantage- I can literally spike serves back, block folks, set the ball from anywhere, and bonk it over the net almost every time. I'm easily the best of the beginners (it helps that most of the beginners are Freshmen girls of the "I'm a whole inch thick at the waist! God, but I'm fat!" variety), and I've finally found a sport I enjoy. Now, then... why the hell does it have to be the one that almost no men play competitively?! Potentially a decent way to meet women, I suppose, but then I'm the overly effeminate, potentially gay guy friend who can only be "like a brother" to them.

Rob's, like, 5' 4. Combination of the two.

lol- I always enjoyed the videos of Death Star destruction in Rebellion, even if it was my Death Star being destroyed by a crapload of A-wings. The Death Star is, in my opinion, best off acting as a defender of Coruscant. With a Death Star and two shield generators (two, not one) in a multiplayer game, any units attempting to invade will get their butts handed to them on a silver platter. You can skimp resources from Coruscant as well, when you have a DS in orbit. A few interdictor cruisers and definitely a ton of fighters/bombers to repel the Rebels, but the DS can take out a ton of ships while you just move your Interdictors all over the screen/blast fighters with them. Mind you, that's advice for a multiplayer game. So far as the AI is concerned, attacking Coruscant is a complete and total foolish move that should never be undertaken, unless it's in the first few days of the game and the Rebels hold, like, half of the Sesswenna sector to start with, plus have an insane number of Blockade Runners.

I'd give an example, but I suppose there are examples for both. For instance- what if you only act selflessly because you secretly know that people will say, "What a great guy; he's very selfless!" and you want the praise of selflessness? You're doing the right thing in being selfless, but for the wrong reasons. Let's say that you're trying to help somebody from falling into a bad situation. You care for that person, but someone else keeps dragging them back into the bad situation. You kill the person that drags them into bad situations; now you've done the wrong thing for the right reasons. These examples aren't the best, as it seems that I've skewed it toward my own view, which has come out as "doing the right thing for the wrong reasons." Notice, I said, "For the wrong reasons," not "by the wrong means." The ends don't justify the means, but they do justify the reason for doing something, I think. If the ends are positive and God told you to do it, it's just as good for everyone as if Satan told you to do it, it would seem.

It's kinda like that "Earth status" bar that GAT had before he vanished from the forums. Anybody remember that? ... *Sigh* I feel deprived with our complete and total lack of Thrawn-based characters, now. Much as I hated Zahn's execution of Thrawn, making him a veritable god, I liked the idea of Thrawn, who could determine how a person or group of people would react based upon their art.... Er, right. And that relates to this because... umm... Okay, so it doesn't.

Great new links, guys! lol- I knew there was a reason I finally bothered to actually click on some of the links in this thread! done properly. If you want to see it done improperly, you'll have to wait- I still have to upload the video of my Latin III class performing it with me as Flavius Maximus.

Answer the poll, and let me know where your vote lies. I'm curious myself as to which is correct, and I can't choose, thus I have no vote. I want to see what everyone's opinion is.

Are you planning to get the PC version of the X box version? I have a copy of the PC version that I don't play (I just could never get into it. After one play through I felt so cheated compared to the first one) that I'd be willing to sell via E-bay or whatever. How much is a good price? Twenty-five bucks or something? It's considered a pretty good game by everyone else for some reason, but I just don't care for it. Interested?

Correct-o-moondo. Ships influence the ground, but the ground does not influence the ship. At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it works, else I'd not have been able to sabotage a few Coruscant ships/rescue units from them in games.
-
*Shrug* Maybe, but I don't really remember that ever happening to me in my games. I got a little gain in support when I liberated a planet via bombardment and then took my fleet out of orbit (enough to make it barely neutral, or barely in my favor at best), but I don't recall a decrease in support from a fleet moving in.

lol- so I played some more Res IV today... my God, that game is fun! It's great to blow a zombie's head off... and using the scope on the rifle really makes things more interesting; blowing a guy's head off at, like, two hundred yards is incredibly fun. Great therapy for when you wish you could do it in real life without having to suffer the consequences- granted, knifing Spaniards isn't quite knifing the psychos you have to deal with... but it's the next best thing. Plus I have a Punisher, now!

He's been infected by the Borg! Aaaaaaaaaaaa! They're going to turn his orange sphere into a Green Borg Cube! *runs about screaming*

I've discovered that I love the taste of gingerbread. Then again, I'm going through the annoyingly cliche "teenage angst" right now, so I think I'm supposed to be eating more than is healthy for me without realizing it... which might explain how I managed to down a whole bag of Doritos, half a plate a nachos, and some leftover lasagna for lunch yesterday... i'll be damned if that lasagna wasn't good. My Latin class did "Roman Dinner Theater" and put on "Rinse The Blood From My Toga," a latin-based comedy. It's all filmed, and I'll put it up on YouTube eventually. Long story short, though: We got free lasagna and pizza when all was said and done.

Virus detection software was yelling "VIRUS ALERT!" I system restored using what Evaders said, and now the C-drive is available again... but an AVG scan of the computer revealed a whopping 28 viruses! I'm not sure that AVG can safely remove them all. My dad's an idiot for this.
-
Anybody know how to perform a system restore on a PC running Windows XP when the C drive doesn't appear to exist on the computer? This one's my father's fault, but it's a virus all the same. It has the time set to "21:21" if that means anything to anyone, and it has removed the "program files" option on the Start menu. How can I perform a restore without access to system tools/how can I access system tools?

What newer games are out there that are like SW:R?
DarthTofu replied to guerre_detoiles's question in Questions from Newbies
If you want something semi-similar I'd recommend A) Any Total War game, B) The "War of the Ring" game on The Battle for Middle Earth II (RTS + Strategic invasion strategies), and (potentially) C) The "Europa Universalis" games. I've only ever purchased Europa Universalis: Rome, and I've not played very much of it. I've been very busy of late, and as a result I've only had one chance to test it. I was confused as hell in that one chance, but then, I was very confused during my first round of Rebellion- neither game is very intuitive. Europa Universalis: Rome is a super-micromanaging game, by the way. Multiple factions are all over the place, diplomacy with each will be affected by each of your actions, you can open and close trade agreements all over the place, and you can only produce units in provinces where certain resources are available. You can ship the resources about based upon what you want to build where, though- IE Elephants to the front lines for elephant soldiers, wood to costal areas for trees, etc. No two resources to one area, though, so a shipyard can't start reaping the benefits on spices or something. It looks good, but one downside to it is the distinct lack of an ability to win. Yes, that's right: You can't win. There are no victory conditions at all. This allows for a tremendous amount of freedom in gameplay, I suppose, but ultimately I imagine it'll come back to bite you in the rear end. You'll only ever really have on game, and won't try out the other factions as much. -
*Winces* I hated Ender's Shadow. Ender's Game was a fantastic book, but Ender's Shadow was just "The Quest For More Money by Retelling the Same Story." *Ahem* Er, right... Rebellion. Anyway, Admirals actually do increase detection ratings. I have no formula, unfortunately, and my manual is missing, but I believe a character's espionage rating influences the detection modifier on your fleet and around the planet.
