That hasn't happened to me personally. I usually have the diplomats hard at work until loyalty is 100%. I have seen neutral systems swing back and forth depending on "actions" in game play.

I've written newsletters before, and they're no walk in the park. I'm sure there would be plenty of ideas submitted by everyone, but isn't that what the forums are for? Newsletters are good for long detailed stories/descriptions, etc. that would normally be considered too long for a forum post. You might get a couple of articles to get started, but keeping it going on a regular basis would definitely be work. Of course electronic newsletters don't have to suffer as bad as hardcopy newsletters (dead space is BAD!)

Although I haven't personally tried the TC's, from what's been written in the forums, you're basically getting a "swap out" for characters, ships, facilities, etc. Since the source code for Rebellion is not avaiable , only existing items "programmed" into the game can be manipulated. The number/type of capital ships, fighters, troops, etc. can not be changed, but you can change the information about a particular item. For example, each side gets four starfighter types, that's it. It can't be changed, the number is four and four is the number. But you can change the existing Y-wing to an E-wing, or an F-15 for that matter (some people do crazy things ). So, the TC's swap out things to fit their scenario. Built in "events" (Luke goes to Dagobah, bounty hunters after Han, Vader & the Emporer dueling with Luke, etc) are hard wired into the game, so when those characters get swapped out, they have to be replaced with persons that will have "events" happen to them. You could make Luke going to Dagobah, say like Gandalf going to fight the Balrog (for the LoTR twist). When he started he was Gandalf the Grey, after the battle he is Gandalf the White. Stuff like that. I think most of the TC's stick with the Star Wars theme though. How you make the AI better I don't know. It just might be that the game data has been manipulated to give the AI a better chance. I don't think there is a comprehensive list for each TC describing what ships, fighters, characters, etc. have been changed, and what are all the new stats for those items. The best you can do is try them out, or ask those that already have. Good Luck!

The poster is approximately 19" x 30" (49 cm x 78 cm). Side 1 (top half) has the title STAR WARS REBELLION and the picture of an ISD from below aft (from the game cover page). The bottom half shows examples of the Strategic and Tactical mode screens and what commands are where. Also there is a key board command list for the same actions. Side 2 is the encyclopedia layout. It shows all of the capital ships, starfighters, characters, special forces and trooper regiments (Rebel Alliance on the left side, Galactic Empire on the right side). I have some digital pics of the poster, but I'm not sure how to "show" them in a forum post. I've seen others post pics of their ship models and artwork so it is possible. I just don't know how. Can somebody describe the steps needed to "post" a digital pic in a post? Thanks!

Sluis Sector. Alliance Command Center on Mon Calamari. The shipyards floated in the night sky like jewels among the stars. The shipyards were constantly busy either constructing star fighters, capital ships or repairing damaged veterans of the fleet. The Mon Calamari cruiser Independence was nearly halfway complete. Admiral Ackbar was personally helping in the outfitting of the Independence. Although the corridors of the command center were busy, they were fairly quiet as personnel went about their business. The only exception was a young human captain running through the corridors as if in the middle of a recruit obstacle course. For him the finish line was Admiral Ackbar’s office. The captain burst into the Admiral’s office, panting and talking excitedly. “Admiral, Admiral, I have outstanding news!â€

I don't want to sound "too" confrontational and will make this my (hopefully) final comment. AdmiralToguroAni, you have contradicted yourself. interpretations like ... I'm not trying to say Old Obi did back flips & such while fighting Vader on the Death Star. I'm not trying to "add" anything that isn't already existing on celluloid (film). What I'm trying to get at, is just because Old Obi & Old Vader didn't fight like the prequels, they weren't weaker. If your remember when the STAR WARS movie first came out (which I believe some can't do because they were not born yet. And the movie title was STAR WARS, not Episode IV ANH, because nobody knew there would ever be any more follow on movies), this was THE best kick a** movie EVER. At this point in time, there were no "prequel" materials available from GL so there could be continuity for some future follow on films. It is totally unreasonable to make assumptions between the two trilogies because you have: two different filming technologies, different storyline foundation, different styles in making films, and definitely different budgets. Last couple of comments: Palpy didn't use a lightsaber in RotJ, because maybe nobody thought of him having one at all at the time (of the movie). As Skynxnex stated, maybe he just didn't need to (President Eisenhower was previously in the military but didn't carry a firearm with him). Dooku quit being a Jedi at the time of TPM, and under the Sifadious name ordered the clones and disappeared. He was still being "trained" by Darth Sidious/Palpy, and NOT living his whole life in exile. Obi-wan went into exile and SELF trained with "some" info from Yoda (with maybe? some additional ghostly training by Qui-jon? That is conjecture on my part, and I'm not saying it happened or not). Nobody was able to help Obi-wan with additional training, not Yoda, not any material from the Jedi temple, only what little info that Yoda had on him at the time (conjecture: they might have grabbed a few tidbits at the Jedi temple when changing the recall code). Yoda/Obi-wan stayed in exile because they didn't want to be "rallying" points in the Rebellion, have lots of people get killed because they planned the strategies and then be blamed for everything that could and would go wrong. People need to believe in themselves and fight for themselves; not fight because Yoda or Obi-wan is back. Hopefully that's the last I have to same on that. I don't mean to offend anyone or pick on AdmiralToguroAni, that is not my intent. This is just another trade of ideas and opinions between us. That is what the forums are for.

I agree with that, I always thought the "clones" were somehow the bad guys. Like somehow the "clones" would "replace" people something like in an "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" type of thing. Oh well, so much for that idea. Thanks again GL, for great plot continuity.

I disagree on the point of "when" the movies were produced. If not for the cinemagraphic technology advances, the prequels would be pure junk. Also, movies have "adapted" to what is now considered "cool/wow" styles. Had the Matrix not had all of those amazing fight scenes, then there probably wouldn't have been the "great" action scenes of movies that followed (Spiderman, the SW prequels, etc.). "Old Obi" (as you reference him) was acted per what previous films existed to draw from (as well as what a movie budget will allow). Had the prequels been made first and followed up with a second trilogy (ANH, ESB & RotJ), the second trilogy would be SO different. If they can get Dooku to do great action scenes (for an old man), then what do you suppose they could do for Alec Guiness? Easily just as well. In ESB Yoda tells Luke he's 900 years old (I'm sure he "rounded" his age). If there are approximately ~30 years between RotS and ESB, certainly that wouldn't account for such a great difference in Yoda's abilities. 30 years is a "drop in the bucket" if you are around 900 years old. The only main difference between RotS Yoda and ESB Yoda is really a "movie technology" difference (CGI vs. Muppet).
-
Other than the movies, I don't think The Matrix has any other media outlets (i.e. books/novels) that are comparable to the SW universe. That being said, when GL starts running amok with discrepancies, it certainly has a more far reaching effect.
-
I think you maybe aging Palpy a bit much there. Even though Ian was an older actor playing a younger man (ironic that in ESB remix & RotJ he was the younger actor playing the older man ), I would've put his age to be in the mid to late 50's, early 60's max. That's only a 10-15 year difference, but for the later episodes it could make quite the difference.

The US government wasn't involved in Texas in the 1830's. The Alamo was defended by men from many countries (colonists?), including Texans of anglo & latino descent. Texas became a state in 1844, eight years after the Alamo. Also, the US didn't keep Mexico after the Mexican-American war in the late 1840's.

I agree with Skynxnex, use of the Force is a conscious act. Masking yourself in the Force (Yoda & Palpatine) is a sort of a "Force cloaking device". It's not an overt act that is easily detectable. When Vader read Luke's mind in the Throne Room, it's not that Luke is "weak minded" but that he is "distracted" and letting other thoughts run amok in his mind. More than likely if Luke could've kept his concentration centered, Vader would have got nothing. Which is probably why Liea was good at resisting the mind probe in ANH (concentrate Liea! Use the Force. Ooops wrong sibling ). Luke was using the Force on the trench run and Vader picked it up. If the Force can be used to levitate objects or move objects (size matters not <= Yoda), and used to "Force" jump, why couldn't Palpatine "stop" his fall down the shaft on the second Death Star? He could have landed on some catwalk or something. It's obvious he was too preoccupied with frying Luke to notice that Darth Vader/Anakin was changing his mind and came up behind him. If Anakin (in AotC) can jump out of an airspeeder with no problem and land on a moving speeder with the escaping Kam driving, why couldn't Palpatine pull off something similar (other than ruining the end of the movie)? Just a thought.

Ditto for me! Freedom isn't cheap, and is paid for dearly with our lives. Remember the Alamo! Remember Pearl Harbor!

My condolances to those who perished and their families. My best wishes to those who are hurt and recovering. My warm thoughts to those who were not injured. The only silver lining I can see is that MANY more people were not harmed (i.e. Madrid). I agree that such cowardly acts only galvanize those who are targeted to defend themselves and bring justice to those who demand it. Terrorism is a crime of stupidity. Those who have "closed" their minds to other thoughts and ideas (whether they be good or bad, depending on your perspective), elevate themselves with false premises that they are better than others. They can not live with the thought that others may think differently, AND that you can live with them in PEACE! Therefore they regress to the primitive instincts to attack what they are afraid of. The "Western world" will deal with terrorists as best as they can, but it will take all nations (muslim too) to eradicate such "beasts". If the Islamic world doesn't bring its own extremists in-line, then when the Western world tries, it will be seen as the "big bully". What earlier occupation? The Soviets? I don't think they wanted to help Israel. After the Soviets left, Afghanistan has been in civil turmoil between rival factions (communists, Taliban, Northern Alliance, warlords, etc.). The Taliban (unfortunately) were the dominating faction (using their religion as the terror plan), and taking the people back a thousand years in human evolution and dignity. What part has the United States NOT been doing, amigo? You are right that the US is NOT acting like Saddam. The US has not gassed thousands, not tortured millions (some just for his son's personal entertainment), and not killed those who "disagree" with government policies. The US HAS spent BILLIONS of dollars on NEW CIVIL projects for the PEOPLE of Iraq. Out of all of the new roads, power plants, sewages systems, water treatment plants, new schools, new telephone services, new police stations and new hospitals, I have not seen ONE new palace built. Everything has been done for the PEOPLE of Iraq, so that THEY can decide how THEY want to live their lives. Maybe I'm guessing here, but I don't think they're going to let another "Saddam" in power. Burnt once, twice shy. The best "governments" serve the people, and not the other way around. Just as the "terrorists" don't represent all people of Muslim faith, apply the same rule to some of the US (and other nation) soldiers. Not all (soldiers) have lived up to the standards we want (and those that crossed the line have and will be dealt with accordingly). Those "misfits" are either being "weeded out" or are learning to toe-the-line. This is the example the Islamic clerics have yet to learn; take care of the extremists themselves.

Although that's true (about command ranks), that's not what I was getting at. What I was suggesting is taking a large fleet (say 90 ships), breaking them up into 9 fleets (of approximately 10 ships each, whatever balances them out as needed). For example, have the 9 fleets all leave Commenor, and arrive at all systems simultaneously (EXCEPT Coruscant). The Imperial AI now finds ALL systems blocaded in the Home Sector, but not the capital. With all of those systems blocaded, ALL AT THE SAME TIME, the maintenance points (for the Empire) are going to take a SEVERE hit (a lot of things are going to get scrapped). More than likely the AI will dispatch most of the Coruscant fleet to break the blocades ... ONE BLOCADE AT A TIME. This will take time. As the Imperial fleet reaches each system (the Rebels will be outnumbered, and should just flee if possible), the Empire is still struggling from lack of maintenace points. To reach all of the systems blocaded could take upwards to 40-60 days. That's a long time without maintenace points. If the Imperial fleet has Interdictors, you'll either have to sacrifice the small fleets or make a could guess on when the Imperials will arrive and leave prior to their arrival. Now, you can try (with confirmed move again) to "re-assemble" the smaller fleets into a larger fleet at Coruscant (A majority of the Imperial fleet should be out trying to "break blocades"). If they (the Imperials) are in hyperspace traveling to a blocaded system, and no Rebel fleet is present, the Imperial fleet will head to the next blocaded system (leave at least one system blocaded for them to go after) or will head back to Coruscant. Basically lead the Imperial fleet away from Coruscant, and then try to take it. Just remember, they'll be coming back and you won't have the luxury of time to sit there and twiddle your thumbs.

What "AI Spy Program" are you talking about? I haven't heard of such a critter existing. It sounds very interesting. Where can this program be found? Is it difficult to use? -
Other than buying another (full) copy of the game (ebay, garage sale or Lucas Arts), I would say you're out of luck. Unless you can find someone who has (unfortunately ) "lost" there CD (or just scratched it or something) and have their's lying around collecting dust, AND is willing to part with it. Finding a "scanned" version is probably "improbable" (not that it couldn't be done, but it IS quite large). Once you have your poster, nobody thinks about making a "backup copy" of it. Good luck on finding one though.

Maul was sacrificed by GL to help sow the seeds for AotC. Maul was basically a "Sith hitman", a "heavy", the "muscle", and not much more. He wanted to fight, he wanted to kill Jedi, period. There was no ambition for controlling people, places or things . He despised anyone who didn't have a backbone (sort of a "samauri" in a wierd way). Obi-wan was just a padawan in TPM, so after Qui-jon's death he should have left Obi-wan for a later day. Dooku/Tyranus was powerful in the Dark Side Force, but I don't believe his lightsaber abilities were on par with Maul's. Maul though wouldn't have used Dark Side energy (i.e. lightning) to defeat opponets. This (unfortunately) would have limited his future potential as a Sith Lord. The combination of using both a lightsaber and "the Force" to win an engagement is advantageous . You use everything at your disposal to win, nothing else matters (winners write the history books). Premature death: yes. More powerful than Dooku: no More powerful than Vader: no Could he take on either in a straight lightsaber fight: yes (IMO)

If Coruscant it heavily defended (really, really defended well), then maybe you're a bit pre-mature in attacking so soon? Either you go for the SUPER battle (and hope you win), or try and wittle them down abit first. If you have enough ships, throw a couple of fleets in there every few days (which is probably more costly for you), or go for the neck (blocade several systems,or a couple dozen, their maintenance points drop and things get "scrapped"). Then go back to see "what's left". If you blocade enough systems, the AI will either disperse the fleet to help them all (doubtful) or send a giant chunk of ships to one system at a time (most likely). If you use "confirmed move" you could send several fleets to systems so they ALL ARRIVE AT THE SAME TIME. OOOOwww! Let me know what happens if you do that, I'm curious.
-
Yeah, that is a hard lesson to learn. I now try to send characters to nearby friendly systems or fleets in the vicinity for a "lay over", then send them onto their final destination. If they get "kicked back", then they don't have as far to go and other options can be made. But if you send someone across the galaxy and something happens and they're sent back, that's a lot of down time for that character (too bad frequent flyer miles don't get you anything).
-
Gracias Amigo! I didn't think I was getting that old yet (Is the mind the first or second thing to go? ). It has been quite awhile since I last read either series.

Case in point: I bet you went to RofS for the story, and really didn't care if Hayden wasn't perfect for the part. What was this original thread about?
