J; I need to take a moment and just "flip through" my NG to look at your pic. I've been quite busy, and it's right there on the counter wanting to be read What with the new Astute-Class submarine and the Type 45 Destroyers, which to quote: Oh yes!! Those F-35's will be cool rides And we have a couple of these in the works Talk about some serious "bang for you buck"

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (spoilers!!!)
DarthTex replied to Darth_Rob's topic in Outside Interests
Thanks for spoiling the ending Mad! .... j/k I bought the book Saturday afternoon. Since I took that speed reading course all those years ago, I'm flying through the book. As of yesterday afternoon I was upto Chapter 4. I'll be done in no time You should have seen how long it used to take me to read a book of this size. -
1) Beware of what you wish for JH, ... the hunter may become the hunted 2) besides, it's not "DarthTex" season, it's football season Ronny Reagan had those as part of his SDI (Star Wars) program back in the 80's

Thanks I did use RebEd to "move" the sectors around the galaxy, and plan to use that (although not necessarily required) to change the planet pictures. As for relocating the planets within a sector, I don't think RebEd can do that (although I'm not sure if I tried ). But my plan is to edit the SYSTEM.DAT file and "move" the planets to their relative locations per the galaxy map (of course "scale" goes out the window, but generally they'll try to be in the right orientation within the sector). While editing this file I could also "change" the planet icon value to whatever's appropriate. To do this, basically after I use RebEd to move sectors, I'll print out the sector maps (via screen dumps) and check the SYSTEM.DAT file to get their "new" X & Y locations. I'll scale the map to get an origin in the upper left hand corner. After I figure out "where" I want all the new systems to be located, I'll edit the X & Y locations in the SYSTEM.DAT file, and ... that should be that The thing I'm going to hate is researching (probably via Wookiepedia) to determine system geography & climate to deter which planet icon to select. To save a little work, any systems that are "re-used" from the original Rebellion will probably get the same planet icon I don't think I really want to do an update on the Rebellion encyclopedia for the systems (as I just about NEVER use it in game myself), but if I'm researching to get info on planet icons, I might at least generate some info to have incase I ever get a wild hair to update that info So, basically that's it in a nutshell. Hope that helps

How would my strategy "turn out" in Multiplayer?
DarthTex replied to kleaverjr's question in Questions from Newbies
I think E's right; your current strategy without espionage is going to get your butt kicked. Remember multiplayer is nothing like going against the AI. Some suggestions: don't always build the latest and greatest troops - they cost a lot (in maintenance & refined materials) and take a long time to produce. Using stronger troops on key systems is OK, but I would never do it for every single system (that's a waste of maintenance & refined materials). Always have at least one GenCore per system or at a minimum an LNR. This usually discourages "causul" bombardments from "hit & run" raids. Two GenCore's will outright prevent enemy assaults (usually). Espionage: sometimes I do it on every single system I have (2 droids minimum) to ferret out what the enemy is doing and if he has missions and/or ships enroute. Then you can respond accordingly. Spying on your enemy gives you "key" info to hamper his war effort. Sabotaging facilities to slow down his production rates (or eliminate them entirely). Blockading systems prior to the arrival of facilities (do you know what happens if you blockade an enemy planet right before the arrival of ... let's say ... a mine, GenCore or any facility? It gets scrapped A great waste of your opponent's time). Go on the offensive: Spy on your opponent, sabotage/destroy his infrastructure (you can only sabotage what you have info about. For example: without updated info, you might destroy two shipyards but missed the additional four that were built), kidnap/assassinate key personnel (you can't find them or know when they're coming without espionage). Just remember one thing: if you want "big" space battles and such, destroying the enemy's infrastructure will greatly diminsh the chances this will happen. If it's win at all costs, then you have a war of attrition. Destroy everything of the enemy's you can't take over, and hope you have more stuff than he does. Of course having capable characters and wise use of their talents helps I'm sure there are lots of more aspects to multiplayer play that I haven't mentioned, but others can fill you in on their "suggestions". Good Luck! -
If you do go to a Texas beach Mad, go to South Padre Island. It's a 60 mile long barrier island National (natural) wildlife preserve. The beaches there are pristine

Uh ... the first one's a decoy? I thought I had corrected that, but apparently not One of those is supposed to be Mandalore Thanks for the find J, I'll go and correct it now .... The system name is correct in my file I guess my "cut & paste" with neutral systems, so to read the name, must have screwed up

Happy Birthday Paul! Have an extra helping of cake and ice cream for me

That's not me Mad, but thanks for asking I did hear about that. Just my two bits worth; never swim in Galveston Bay, especially is you have an open wound. He was just asking for "TROUBLE", and found it with capital letters (foolish young whipper-snapper)

None of your links worked for me Eagle

Well first off, all of the systems names (with exception to the Unknown Regions ) come from the galaxy map located at the beginning of this thread I don't recognize many of the names either, but I have read most of the EU books (no comics & no RPG, etc). I'm not sure a .reb file will pull this off as I'm not sure which files RebEd manipulates. I've changed four files to pull this off: STRATEGY.DLL, TEXTSTRA.DLL, SECTORSD.DAT & SYSTEMSD.DAT (the latter two being located in the GDATA directory). The Unknown regions I had some fun with A friend helped me with a couple of names, but here's the tie in: Bob: Titan AE Othala: Stargate SG-1 (homeworld of the Asgard) New Caprica: Battlestar Galactica Vulcan: Star Trek Druidia: Space Balls Earth Mk II: Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy Altair IV: The Forbidden Planet Epsilon III: Babylon 5 Magrathea: Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy Thermia: Galaxy Quest

OK, I've made some progress, but ... I have yet to change planet icons (with a few exceptions), and adjust their positions within their sector. I don't know if I want to even mess with the encyclopedia texts at all, I mean ... there's like almost 200 changes to make That's where I'll probably draw the line. So first some pics from RebEd showing galaxy info, then in-game galaxy pics, then the sectors themselves. I did a little cut & paste on the sector pics, as some of the system names (when colored: red especially) didn't show up very well. So, I ran the game a couple of times showing mostly "neutral" systems so the names can be read http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/4761/modifiedgalaxy2sectorsjx7.th.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/3352/modifiedgalaxy2importanjr9.th.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/631/modifiedgalaxy2gamesizejk2.th.jpg http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/8869/modifiedgalaxy2openinggcz4.th.jpg http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/6090/modifiedgalaxy2ingamegakl6.th.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/7926/sectorsscreenshot01aqi9.th.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/4435/sectorsscreenshot02ann5.th.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/6272/sectorsscreenshot03avu5.th.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1038/sectorsscreenshot04ate6.th.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/6299/sectorsscreenshot05atj1.th.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/48/sectorsscreenshot06ahy2.th.jpg http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/4522/sectorsscreenshot07atq3.th.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2803/sectorsscreenshot08aih1.th.jpg http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/7356/sectorsscreenshot09aqz9.th.jpg http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3114/sectorsscreenshot10afg9.th.jpg I did all of these screen shots as thumbnails, as I don't want to "clog up" a whole page with pics, plus for those with slow connections, you can pick & choose a bit. Definitely check out the very last sector pic; it has the "Unknown" sector

Although you are probably correct in that something is wrong with the Golan III's (run the battlestations program to fix this, but you have to know which original ship was replaced by the Golan III ) since they dropped in on your planet, but it is possible to do this even if the non-hyperspace function works properly on the Golan III. I don't think the AI is "smart enough" to do this, but I know how. Basically create a fleet with one functioning ship, then construct a new Golan III in that fleet (it can NOT be an existing Golan, only an "under construction" version works). Before the Golan III is completed move the fleet to blocade an enemy planet (the blocade must be successful). Then break this "fleet" up by putting the functioning ship in its own fleet; do whatever with this fleet now. When the Golan III is complete, it will be "delivered" to its designated fleet/destination You can construct Golan III's over any friendly system you want, only neutral and enemy systems require the "fleet method" to get them there. If possible, have different shipyards construct Golan III's in the "same fleet". Then it's possible to have multiple Golan III's "blocade" an enemy planet. Or do it piece meal as needed; you might not want to "waste" too many Golan III's over a single enemy planet

PLEASE! It's getting worse!

So K, are these new planet pictures "compatible" with the poor Rebellion graphics? What about size and a "full on" view? I'm not sure if this is just another outlet for your excellent talents, or if this was (hopefully) another way to mod the game (just hoping)
-
SOCL, maybe it's time you locked this thread anyway. The "content" has really gone down hill fast PLEASE!

You're leaving yourself wide open to espionage missions then. Espionage missions on core systems also give info on one additional enemy core system. So leaving the planet wide open, gives them free info access on your other core systems. I know, I do this all of the time to the opposing team. My strategy for such a system is to turn it into a fortress with a general, several espionage missions to foil any enemy missions. Then do recon, espionage and sabotage on the enemy from deep within their own backyard It also provides a base when sending in ships (I really hate sending ships halfway across the galaxy, and then have them sent packing to come all the way back ) to harass their systems Just my two bits worth

Yes you can. That's why budious wrote the Rebellion Refreshed and Reloaded Ultimate Package (x86/x64) thread

I have verified putting a fully loaded SSD in the startup files (and even once started a game with 256 Death Stars, but the negative maintenance was a bitch! ) I haven't yet played again with a modified game (namely the Golan III), but I have done some digging around (as you discovered in the Mechanics thread) that might correct the problem. I just haven't had time to test anything out just yet @the Reloaded Team: Is there a comparison list of which ships were replaced with what? Just asking
-
Very diplomatic, J. Otherwise I'm going to have to bring out the ol' peacemaker Or, it's modern equivalent
-
Nothing lately from me; been busy working other things (i.e. Galaxy configuration)
-
I haven't yet loaded Reloaded (I'm currently in the middle of two games; one of which is a multiplayer), but I wonder about switching ship positions. I'm just asking, did the Team transfer all of the stats from one ship position to the other? I'm just curious about the data that doesn't show up in RebEd (i.e. when I replaced the Corellian gunship with a Golan III, the Golan went after fighters and wouldn't attack capital ships Talk about disappointing). Anyway, that could be fixed either with the SWEditor or a hex-editor on the Capital-Ship-data-file. I'd be afraid that the SSD (replacing Galleons) would "run away" from anything As for the MC40 starting with two troops, it is possible to (hex) edit the start up file and change that to just about anything you want (just about; spec forces, troops or fighters; and any number you want ). The same goes for the SSD's (would you like them fully loaded ).

Guys, check out my tattoo! (Imperial) :D

Totally off topic, but I have to comment ... @mandalore-the-inquizitor: PLEASE reduce the size of your avatar!!!! currently you're at 1024 x 786, where the typical user avatar is 80 x 80. You have a long way to go, just saying PS Welcome to the site & the forums ... just fix the avatar ASAP Is it possible to get a moderator to fix this? Just asking -
I've already worked that into my new galaxy configuration for Alderaan I've yet to update the planet icon and sector configuration yet, but at least I have all of the "new" system names I'll try and get some sector pics with system names soon (been pretty busy, and it doesn't look like it's going to lighten up anytime soon).
