  1. I tend to agree with Rob; I don't think the number of missions matter, just how many are on the mission. Just a gut feel about that, no "hard" evidence.
  2. The poor ol' bulk cruiser is a left over of days gone by, showing that the Rebels don't just yet have access to potent capital ships. But, it definitely needs a tweak to make it playable. I usually skip over it and build corvettes until the Neb-B becomes available. Even the Alliance Dreadnaught is not much of an investment considering the first ships to be researched.
  3. Arrrgh! I go out of town on a business trip for a week, and I find out the site's been down while I've been away. Ye scurvy dogs just can't do things right without some one to keep an eye on ya (me good eye that is). But, since I just got back, I'll remind you now: Last Friday was International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Therefore ye matey's, I declare this entire week International Talk Like A Pirate Week to make up for the omission. Let the plundering begin!
  4. That title is misleading, don't all (most) non-domesticated animals live in the wild? I can remember when they first took pictures of the okapi and didn't know what the heck it was. Then there was the big push to actually capture one of these mysterious animals. They might be rare to photograph in the wild, but it's been done before. @Rob: your other link didn't work for me it went to "some other" story.
  5. That was going to be my next step Eagle, except for two things: 1) I would have to find my Win2000 CD (it's in storage ... somewhere ) and 2) since it appears either my motherboard or memory (or both) fried, booting up is impossible .
  6. I'm stilling recovering from a major computer failure this weekend . Good thing a buddy of mine could help; he did a system scan and found a Malware Trojan which prevented me from running ANY program . AVG (the free version) was the only program running & it couldn't detect it . He used the updated "pay version" of AVG (with Malware detection) and cleaned everything up . After I got my hard drive re-installed, my computer wouldn't boot up. He said either my memory or motherboard might be fried (or both) . I ordered a new machine on Friday, it should be ready by Wednesday
  7. I didn't feel like starting a new thread, so I hijacked this one of Tofu's @Evaders: Do you get PM's? I sent one to you on Aug 26th and it's still sitting in my OUTBOX. How do I get rid of it so you can receive it? Is e-mail better? If so, which of your multitudes of addresses works best? Or should I do "snail mail" to you c/o Cheetah's in Hot-lanta?
  8. It's called "free will", and everyone has it. I don't think there's one kid in all of history that has done EVERYTHING their parents have told them. It's a non-issue. I totally disagree. The US economy has been its best in years, the unemployment rate has been the lowest in 20+ years (as low as 4.5%, can Europe compare?). Apparently you disagree with the US invasion of Iraq. How many more sanctions from the UN do you think would have fixed the problem? One should have been enough, but approximately 18 and still no resolution? Oil-for-food was riddled with corruption! From the people "buying" the oil, to the Iraqi officials receing the money; Oh, and "some" food was actually given to the people. A bunch of "talk" did nothing, and it was time to put some "resolve" (action) to back up those sanctions. Captured soldiers in uniform receive POW status, and their treatment is spelled out by the Geneva Convention. In all wars prior to this, combatants fighting in non-uniform were shot. Detainees at Guantanamo, are treated like VIP's that would make any POW envious (ask anyone who was in the Hanoi Hilton). The liberal courts even want to give them US citizen rights! The US does not intentionally go about violating peoples rights (there are always individuals who break the rules), but fights for those who are denied their rights. Speak out against Saddam when he was in power, and see how long you remained free, even alive? Now Iraqi's can protest like crazy, but violence is never tolerated, anywhere in the world when protesting. Saddam used mustard gas (a WMD) against his own people, against the Iranians, and threatened others. He denied having the WMD's but wouldn't allow inspections. After moving, hiding, or whatever his WMD's he allowed limited inspections. And regardless how the liberal media down played it, WMD's were found! Chemical artillery shells and bombs, along with 500 tons of the infamous uranium "yellow cake". I believe a great evil has been removed from this planet, and is much safer now than ever. As mentioned before "diplomacy" has its limits. The US is a capitilistic society, therefore unless the US is a dictatorship it can NOT "force" companies to do anything, other than follow the laws. It's not the governments job to tell companies what to do with their profits. If the oil companies are making gobs of money, then they must be doing something right for the shareholders (that's why they invested in the company in the first place: to make money!). In case you don't know, the US gov't makes more money (from taxes) than the oil companies make in profit. Who's getting too much of other people's money now? Yes there are companies that only think of themselves, and suppress technology and ideas that would be better for the people/world as a whole, but until it becomes profitable for them to do so, they won't do anything about it. The danger there, is someone will eventually do something better, that will make their suppressed technology less valuable (either you use it, or lose it). When enough people protest, alternative fuel vehicles will be available. All the major car companies are now developing these vehicles. Eventually they'll become the mainstream (hopefully) and replace local commuter vehicles (you'll still need gas vehicles for long range driving). But it's the people and profit that push for progress, not the government. The US is a leading country in the world, the "arsenal of democracy". Without it WWII would not have been won, the Cold War would still be ongoing. The US cares more about individuals rights than almost anyother nation (that's why our founding fathers fought a revolution). But running a country is hard and not every choice is maybe "the best". But I do know, "socialist thinking" by liberals (like Obama) will lead this country down the proverbial toilet; taxing the citizens too much, controlling everyone's living habits, running up debt, and caring less about what happens in the rest of the world, other than "am I liked? I want to be loved by everyone". The governments job is to "help" the people live their lives, not "tell" the people how to live their lives. People and companies need to take personal responsiblity for their actions, and not go crying to the government to help them out every time they make a mistake. The government is not your parents; you're old enough now, take care of yourself. That was a bit of a rant, but I hope you get the point. McCain is a retired Naval Officer. Most military officers have good/great leadership skills (executive experience). McCain is 72, seventy-two years young I doubt it, but you never know
  9. I was hoping you would be done already! Keep the updates coming
  10. Welcome aboard! Join the forum discussions and stay involved
  11. I'll give some of these a shot: 1) Are decoys necessary? No. High leadership guys work best at subdue uprising, & of course having the more than the minimum required garrison troops helps immensely. 2) A good ratio of personnel vs decoys? That's a tough one. I use a variety; sometimes 1, sometimes many. I don't have a "set" amount I use each time. I even use characters as decoys too. 3) Command personnel are the toughest (Generals especially). Fleets in orbit are an extra layer of detection (your mission team must get by ships in orbit first, then ground personnel before they can proceed with their mission). If you have a HIGH priority system you want to protect, put a fleet in orbit loaded with troops/fighters, have an Admiral, General & Commander on board; planetside have troops/fighters, a General & Commander and perform espionage missions on your own planet (to find incoming & ongoing enemy missions). 4) "Hyperspace" is for between systems; if ships have the same value, they travel the same speed. If not, check any ships to see if their hyperspace engines are damaged from a battle. Each ship is also equipped with an emergency backup hyperspace engine, which is extremely slow. 5) It's OK if they go to zero, the only thing that really happens is it takes much longer than the stated time to construct anything (basically your resources get backlogged; if you need 20 and 10 are available, it will use those and "wait" until more become available. Waiting and waiting unitl whatever is being constructed will be completed). The best optimization is to have equal numbers, for maintenance points as well as resource management, but that's not always possible. 6) Usually those at the latter research stages, CC-9600's, Dauntless's and Bulwarks. But given enough numbers of anything it should work. You might have to experiment: 200 bulk cruisers might be equivalent to 100 Mon Cal cruisers, which might be equivalent to 75 Assault frigates, which might be ... and so on. Y-wings have excellent bombardment values for going after shields, so get lots of escort carriers loaded with Y-wings, that'll definitely help. Good Luck!
  12. Palin went into office approximately four months after Obama. Executive experience in my book is premium experience, like comparing gold to bronze. McCain just turned 72 last Friday (Aug 29), and looks in pretty good health (even in my opinion). As for ANWR, just a couple of thumbnails: http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/9894/anwrtousmappn7.th.jpg ANWR is quite large, almost the size of Wisconsin! http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/4346/anwrrm2.th.jpg 1/100th of 1% of the total acreage for drilling. http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/1950/anwrdrillingsitedo1.th.jpg The drilling site is in the northern "costal" region. So much for pristine mountains and valleys loaded with caribou and wildlife. In the summertime, it's basically a giant "swamp" (Tofu might relate) and in winter ... totally frozen over; flat and white (and of course, extremely cold & windy). I'd rather give oil $ to Alaskans than Arabs any day. If someone really wants to make a change, build nuclear power plants to generate electricity, and city commuters can drive electric vehicles. That'll put a big dent in oil usage.
  13. That's what I meant; anyone traveling with Han "directly" (not on a ship) gets Han's special taxi cab bonus of traveling very fast
  14. That's her 4 month old sister she is carrying. Unless locking your kids up 24/7, at some point in time you have to let them make their own decisions. Think about all of the decisions you made as a teenager; would you make all of the exact same decisions today? (hindsight is 20/20). It's only called a "skeleton in the closet" if you actively try and hide/manipulate the facts so it won't be seen by the public, and then get caught. As far as I know, Sarah Palin hasn't tried to hide anything. The flamin' left liberals must really be nervous if they have to resort to attacking a 17 year old girl. They'll do anything to try and make something seem bad, so you won't elect her. Sarah Palin actually has more experience than Obama, and she's only running for VP. There are only 50 Governors in the US, and they "run" their states like mini countries (that's called execuative experience). There are 100 Senators and 435 Congressmen, and all they do is "make" and debate laws. There is no experience actually running anything, they just agree or disagree on what bill should be passed or not. I might actually vote for McCain, and it will only be because of her (his VP pick).
  15. Rob got most of them for ya, so I'll just throw my two bits in here or there 1: Ship speeds vary, so fleets travel together at the speed of the slowest ship. Infantry inside ships during the tactical battles (ship battles) do nothing, except become cannon fodder if you lose or fail to escape. 2: Recruiting is limited to Han, Luke, Leia & Mon Mothma for the Alliance, & the Emperor and Darth Vader for the Empire. 3: If there are two shield generators on a planet, no assault is possible. Either you have to sabotage one of them, or bring in some HEAVY firepower from a fleet to blow them away. You can assault a planet with only one shield generator. 5: Characters traveling by ship usually travel faster than "moving" them directly planet to planet. Planetary travel for characters has a default of 100 on the hyperspace speed, which is the same speed as a medium transport. So, traveling by ship (other than the med. transport) is faster. Han (and any "character" that travels with him) has a hyperspace speed of 50 (twice as fast as a med. transport). 8: There's really only one version of the game, but there are two titles Rebellion sold in the US, and Supremacy sold in Europe. There is a "patch" that allows the European version to play "head-to-head" with their US counterparts; this "patch" changes the version from 1.00 to 1.01. If you don't play head-to-head internationally, don't load the patch (until you absolutely have to). Good Luck!
  16. I can relate Everytime you write that, I hear it in my head as a donkey going Eee Haw Sorry to hear that How about this then: Yee Haw or or Yee Haw (she's a Georgia redneck )
  17. I have an old family recipe (it uses shredded beef, not chunks or hamburger ) Now that you got me thinking about it, I'm going to have to dig up the recipe and get cookin'!
  18. Except rewrite a new Rebellion RTS from scratch
  19. I need to keep the heart pumping
  20. Since I'm from Rotterdam, I would never ever dance in Amsterdam, Tex.... Sorry about that Scath ... but, ... what do you do in Amsterdam then?
  21. Yee Haw! A fellow Texan (lurking) in the forums. I do believe most of the Houston skyline has its buildings lined with microscopic magnifying glasses to make the pedestrians "fry" during the day
  22. Well, currently you just have to PM me an e-mail address to get it. I have to get in touch with Evaders to see about getting this in the DOWNLOADS section. I'll get to work on that ...
  23. I hope you had a nice vacation Slocket, anywhere interesting? And I do hope your fingers enjoy their break. Don't over do it. Do you have some sort of outline or task list for your program, and what's been accomplished, what's left? Keep up the good work. Thanks for the updates
  24. I've seen that before; pretty neat Let's see, I saw Jahled in London, Scath in Amsterdam, and Evaders in Atlanta. Did I miss anybody else?
  25. You'll have to talk to Evaders about that; hopefully he can help you out. The old PM system has been updated (check for new PM's under the FORUMS tab above, the last item listed on the drop down menu). The old way of accessing PM's doesn't work anymore Great to see you back Master Xan. Don't forget to check out this most interesting thread: Galaxy Configuration
