  1. Mehh, I like to know what I'm getting into. I don't want my hard-earned money being wasted on a piece of crap - I'll accept losing some of the surprise in exchange for knowing that the game I'm going to buy is actually worthwhile.
  2. No Mon Cal was longer than an ISD. Period. It's stated in the EU, and even on the canon website. They were meant to be comparable heavy-hitters to Imperial flagships like Star Destroyers, but they were not equals. The Rebels evened the battle by their fighter superiority. It would be unfair to the Imperials to give the Rebels superior heavy starships -and- superior fighters.
  3. ISD = 1.6 kilometers http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/imperialstardestroyer/index.html Mon Cal Cruiser = 1.2 kilometers http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/moncalamaristarcruiser/index.html No distinction is made, either, between Admiral Ackbar's flagship's length, and the length of a standard Mon Calimari Starcruiser. As for the Imperator's power, it only makes sense for it to be the stronger warship. The Empire used the ISDs as flagships for fleets consisting of thousands of support vessels. One Star Destroyer costs more than the GDP of an entire planet, and expends more energy in a single hyperspace jump than some civilizations use in their entire history. The relevance?! Something this over-the-top should be the more powerful. Besides, the Rebels have the fighter advantage, while the Imperials have the later-stage capital ship advantage. It only makes sense for balancing reasons, if but for nothing more.
  4. I blame Lucasarts for this, any no one else. It's Lucas and his subordinates who control what is kept secret and what is released, considering that it's their franchise. What (if any) business sense there is in their style of secrecy, however, continues to elude me...
  5. Que? The ISD was 1.6 kilometers in length. That's 400 meters longer than this longest Mon Cal. http://www.galacticempiredatabank.com/ISD.html
  6. Echh; let me articulate myself better. Does the hero respawn timer happen on the Galactic Map, or in battles, Delphi? If it's in battles, does the timer progress from battle to battle (like I get Darth Vader back 50% in one battle, and in the next battle, the 50% has carried over), or does the timer start all over again in the next battle if it didn't reach 100% in the previous battle?
  7. Keep in mind that we also have (optional) missions that will come up every now and then on the Galactic Map, that will reward us with a jump up the technology tree, free units, or even a new hero.
  8. This makes me wonder: Delphi said that there is a timer for bringing back dead heroes. Is this timer something that you can only activate DURING a battle, or is it something that you activate on the Galactic Map? If it it something that you select in a battle, does the timer restart when you start a new battle, or is it frozen in its state of progress?
  9. Blahh, vagueness. He sounds more like he is saying "yes, that would be a cool option for those inclined," than "yes, that is possible." There's a big difference. Still though, I'll be more hopeful and less negative...this time. Petroglyph are a bunch of cool dudes, so I think that these seemingly dissapointing developments are less negligence towards the gamers' needs than simply a strong adherence to what they imagined the game to be. By far the best compromise between the two is making the game very mod-friendly, and if EaW can be modded to the pleasure of the most obscure desire, well...then they just get browny points, don't they.
  10. http://images.pexsus.com/games/empireatwar/videos/trailer/new/b3f2083622a7e77d8c53d3d905f7bb15.jpg Also, between the AT-AT and the Stormtroopers, there seem to be other infantry. And they're not simply bounty hunters or other heroes, because there are at least three of them and they all look the same. Could these be Imperial Army Troopers?
  11. Ahh, incest. Anyway, that doesn't answer my question. Has or has not Delphi confirmed that respawnability can be modded to keep them dead?
  12. Hmm. I must not have seen it. Did he say that it was moddable, or not?
  13. Perhaps balance may make heroes not entirely unstoppable killing machines. Still though, I'd like to know if it is possible to MOD the bit about respawnability, so that if we wanted, we could make it so that they stayed dead. Is that possible, Delphi?
  14. Delphi: is it possible to mod the game to make heroes stay dead?
  15. They want him to stay alive... ...just like Boromir in Battle for Middle Earth!!
  16. The Rebels have Nebulon B Frigates, the Correlian Corvettes, and Correlian Gunship. The Imperials also a missile ship (the Broadside Cruiser), the Venator Star Destroyer, and Tartan Patrol Cruiser.
  17. Give a reason with your post, make it intelligible, and stay on topic. It would be a terrible mistake for Petroglyph to stick within today's RTS mold and make heroes respawnable after they die. In the Star Wars universe especially (where some of the most dramatic moments centered on a hero's demise), such an aspect would come off as very cheesy and forced, and would deny the player a feeling of attachment to his heroes if he did not have to worry about the permanence of his actions.
  18. No, they can be killed. That's not the point of contention. What it seemed that he implied was that if they die, they can be respawned/resurrected, which is the lame part.
  19. I dunno...one private message seems sort of audacious. Like "do it for your buddy, pleeeeeease?" A petition is more respectful because it assumes that these are people who know what they are doing, and is takes into account that THIS IS THEIR GAME that THEY HAVE LIBERTY OVER - hense the need for a large body of people to attempt to sway them.
  20. Ordinarily, I would agree, Swiftdraw. But Petroglyph is more of a fan's company, or at least I still believe that they are. I want to know what more of everyone thinks, first. I'm considering testing the waters with a poll, to see how many potential signers there -might- be. *shrugs*
  21. Be reasonable. If we want to convince them to do otherwise (if Petroglyph is truly open to persuasion at this point), let's be serious. Stormtroopers aside. I might get up in arms about useless crap like "is ____ moddable?", and I might have sobbed for a day or two like the rest of everyone when I heard the SSD wasn't in, but this is the only EaW news tidbit that I find completely unacceptable. Our best bet would be some form of petition, or something. I think they're cool dudes like that...if we cause enough intelligent noise, that is. What say you all to that?
  22. Black Metal!!
  23. That's kind of lame, really. Why stick with the mold just because the majority of gamers are spoon-fed on it? Why not be ballsy and hold people accountable for how they manage their heroes? How are you going to manage that, anyway, without it being monstrously cheesy? At least with Warcraft and Battle for Middle Earth you had the whole fantasy-world magic theme where ressurection could fit in not-too-painfully. I simply do not see how this fits into a sci-fi, least of all Star Wars. Some of the Star Wars saga's most dramatic and worthwhile moments were defined by heroic death.
  24. Irrelevant as my transports question may be to the general gameplay, there actually might be a good beneath it all: if something -that- miniscule can be modded, then the game will become a modder's paradise!
  25. Mayhaps, except I remember some of those authors (like Aaron Alliston, the author of the Wraith Squadron series and some of Rogue Squadron books) being pretty decent. It's like some sort of suckiness contagion has passed amidst their rank and file...
