  5. I would read the stuff here: http://soase.weebly.com/modding.html You already have all the SOGE files in text through the beta, so you can pretty much edit anything. If you need to test or submit changes, send out a patch. Lavo and NovaCameron are the only ones making active changes, so I would review things with them. If your changes are well-received and needed for the mod, you may be given access to checkin changes to our repository directly. What ship for the Empire would fit that role? Certainly not the Eclipse. I can't think of anything they are really missing, Pellaeon-class during the Legacy era would be the only one (which I wouldn't include in the mod right now either)
  6. Moons are awesome. Star Wars isn't really the same without them... Yavin IV, Nar Shaddaa, Forest Moon of Endor... you get the idea. Awesome NovaCameron!
  7. EaW tries to avoid that by allowing infiltration at least one system behind-enemy-lines. Also to avoid such situations, you really have to design a map with multiple routes to different systems. Removing all choke points isn't the idea - but limiting them so that entire game isn't choke points is better. Especially in the core regions (not Deep Core), you should have lots of travel lanes - while further out in the Rim you should get less accessible.
  8. There isn't really any programming skills needed. Sins editing is all text files. Trust me, if you want to do something, just do it. I agree that a proper balance needs to be done, just no one has had time to do it. This why the unpolished stuff is still in beta for this long. (Sorry, Eville is working on the Mantis page. It is still down)
  9. I personally love the Sins 3d galaxy. The ability to zoom in and out and get information at various scales (whether icons to full ship 3d models) is incredible. Putting it all together in one interface without dozens of windows - that is the way to do it. In that respect, I wouldn't implement predefined sectors the way Rebellion has it. Nor would I keep the same hyperspace-anywhere approach. This game needs hyperspace lanes for any kind of tactics. (Plus the idea that ships will travel from one side to the other without stopping for supplies is dumb) To give the limited effect of sectors, I would have diplomacy and other events scale based on the distance from one system to the next. If there is an uprising in one system, it will tend to spread to its nearest neighbors. But as it gets further and further, it will have little (if any) effect. Death Star I would almost tend to make a global effect - just the fact is around should give everyone who would rebel fear. So basically, I agree with you. A modern interface design is crucial for any remake to succeed. Plus a 3D engine would help with the scale to any resolution. Heck, I would even ask for multi-monitor support to put data on different screens (like Supreme Commander) like a minimap, etc.

    I don't know if I'd increase the cost that much. Maybe a higher cost mixed with a lower shielding. Or if they are intended for "1-ship-wins" endgame, then maybe it should be scaled higher. Sorry, server must have been restarted. I restarted SVN

  21. That main poll has been up there FOREVER. Actually our first root server was Vader. The next one was Luke. So this server is Lando to represent some new business endeavors.

  23. Yea I know. I'm surprised it isn't in the default phpBB3, but it's not a priority right now for us.
  24. Nobody. LucasArts has quit developing games themselves for a long time. Anyone who would have had access to the code would be bound by the company's right for its intellectual property. Risking to lose in a inevitable lawsuit with no financial gain from it - I don't think anyone is stupid enough for that.
