Yeah, it would be nice if we could have both, but then what do you cut out? Aargh! If only we could add a slot or four... I figured...but no one here would know that I knew that. Besides, I hadn't expected you to post it so quickly, what with all your other projects {COUGH!}Eclipse movie{COUGH!}.

Upload 'em when you get a chance, NicFyyar. I need to put mine up as well...

Check out The_Mask's website. He's got a model for the Viscount, which you can take into Lithunwrap, save a picture of, mess with the palette, and create your card (like he suggested to me, btw. ). Oh, and don't forget to import the model. Schweet!

Huh...less than the distance from San Antonio to Dallas (274.8 miles ~ 714 km), yet I'll bet it takes a LOT longer, what with all the convoluted twists in the Autobahn. And all this time I thought all Germans listened to nothing but music featuring tubas. Don't tell me: y'all don't really go around wearing lederhosen all the time either, right? Just kiddin'. Gotta love dispelling stereotypes. Just for the record, not all of Texas looks like a scene from a spagetti western, not everyone here owns a ranch or has the oil business as their primary source of income, and I don't even OWN a cowboy hat, let alone spurs. BTW, techno does kinda suck.

Ditto... WHOOT!! Awww....'twarnt nuthin', really. I'm still workin' on changing a few things around in it, per your clarifications, Mask. Ooooooo!! More fun toys to play with! BTW, I DID change the fighters around, Mask. Too cool!

Datin' yourself a little there, aren't ya, Jahled? Actually, my buddies and I didn't get into D&D until late '89, and even then it was all home-brewed, hack-and-slask "adventures". It wasn't until around '94 that we actually started to really care about things like plot and character development. Enter Valkir. He's 6-7 years our senior, and he ran an impressive Menzoberranzan adventure for our munchkin characters that about killed us. He followed it up with a visit to The Ruins of Myth Drannor, and after all that we've never gamed the same. We started a new campaign, which was advancing pretty darn well (if I do say so myself) when 3rd Edition came out. While initially opposed to such change, we decided to playtest the rules...and now it's the only version we play. (All my hard work...for nothing... ). That was right about the time that the 'silver' editions of 'Against the Giants' and 'QotDWP' came out. I've been attempting to convert them to 3rd Edition rules and 'adapt' them for my current campaign. My first character was a fighter that I played as a 13-year-old with a group of enlisted guys my father worked with at Zaragoza Air Force Base in Spain. He ended up with three artifacts of Thor (hammer, gauntlets, and belt), turning him into a fighter/cleric. I continued to use him in high-level campaigns here in Texas, before finally retiring him in '95 at fifteenth level. He's now a luminous NPC in my campaign world. Love to have ya, Jahled! That is, if you don't mind the 1-3 months between gaming sessions...

There's certainly nothing wrong with building a "Katana Fleet". It's no different from overzealous Alliance-players going overboard with their Nebulon-B production. (Guilty... ) I just don't see the point of building 200 of 'em in a game the scale of Rebellion. [daydream of what Rebellion could be...] That said, I think a cool feature for if/when we ever get the sourcecode or we develop Rebellion 2 would be to have ships part of neutral planet arsenals, much like defenses and facilities. They could be won over by diplomacy, acquired with 'new' "ship capture" missions, and we could even place a random "Katana Fleet" of twenty or thirty dreadnaughts somewhere in one of our 'new' "Deep Space" zones, which would only be revealed after certain prerequisites are met (involving Talon Kaarde & Niles Ferrier?). Coupled with "neutrals" like pirates, the Ssi-Ruk(sp?) and whatnot, and you'd have some pretty dynamic events to contend with. [/daydream of what Rebellion could be...]
-
Tongue-in-cheek, TK. However, it would be wonderful to actually get our grubby little mitts on the sourcecode for Rebellion.
-
Oh, I'm quite aware of that fact, TK. But has anyone ever tried to built 200 Dreadnaughts in Rebellion? Waste of resources, if you ask me. But that's quite enough names for building a 'Rebellion-Scale' Katana fleet.

True dat... Have a good weekend; I'm OUTTA here!

Y'all only saw this thing just now. Man, I must've paid too much attention or been really bored the first time I browsed through that site. I saw it about 2-3 years ago but dismissed it, since it wasn't a canon ship as far as I knew, and it was pretty...odd, to boot. Still, it would be cool to see what else is hidden in all that wonderful Rebellion source code... And shame on me for not bringing it up sooner, right?
-
You're welcome. Yeah, I was a little disappointed as well, but the ones that they DO have are pretty sweet! As for the tutorials...one little baby step at a time, as far as I'm concerned.
-
I don't see why not, although I had initially envisioned it as more of a repository for pictures to be used in replacing those in the DLL's. Yet keeping a few screenshots of battles and summaries of strategies/tactics would be an interesting addition as well.

Who was in the cave : Vader vs Luke or Luke vs Luke ?

Great distinction, Trej! I agree wholeheartedly! -
Who was in the cave : Vader vs Luke or Luke vs Luke ?
Texas_Fett replied to Cain's topic in General Discussion
I agree with Trej. In addition, I've always considered that it served as a warning to Luke: continue your 'reckless' agression against evil, and you WILL become like Vader. Or, that you cannot defeat Vader by force! (pardon the pun). That's why Luke was so adamant that he couldn't 'kill his own father'. (Yoda reinforces this interpretation by dissuading Luke from going to confront Vader. I'ts not that he isn't able to do it, but that if he does then 'matters are worse'.) From his point of view, if he did he'd end up just like him. What's ironic is that from Obi-Wan's point of view, that was the ONLY way to be rid of Vader; to kill him (kinda makes you wonder if Obi-Wan didn't have his own 'Dark-Side Demons', doesn't it?). He failed to see things from Luke's P.O.V. But Luke ended up adhering to what he said, despite the urgings of Ben: He didn't kill his father. Instead he brought him back to the Light Side. So what Luke said was true...from a certain point of view. And that's my take on the subject. Feel free to flame if, if so desired. -
I don't know how useful it is, but here's a list of the ship names I've used in the past: I've replicated more than a few 'official'names, so bear with me. I know a thread exists where Jahled or someone found a site with some schweet renderings, and the consensus was that they'd be great additions to the TC, assuming the author's permission was obtained for their use. Well, I stumbled upon this site today, and I thought I'd bring it to y'alls attention. Click on the 'Gallery' tab, then 'Sci-Fi', and then 'Star Wars'. There are some beautiful images here. Enjoy!
-
Another idea I thought would be cool is to have a 'gallery' of the dll pictures, both of the original game and member submitted. Maybe that's something I'll have to post on my own site, if I ever get it up and running.
-
Many thanks, Mask! You know...how is it that you find the time to work these minor miracles for the game when you're constantly having to ride to the rescue of clueness noobs like me? Well, this still points me in the right direction. I'll just have to see about adding what I've mapped out so far, and get it back to you. Little by little, we may actually get this whole bad-boy done.
-
Waitaminute! There's a quick reference guide for the dll's, and it's not available for download on the site here? "Lucy!! You have some 'splainin' to do!" Seriously, this would've saved me a lot of headache. Can anyone hook me up with a copy, since the aforementioned links appear to be defunct? Pretty please?

What, so now working with html is as simple as a Barney song? Okay, pardon me while I We use Access here at work. Whee. And don't forget all those Powerpoint-jockeys who refuse to do a presentation without using PP, no matter how simple the subject matter. "Okay, I'm here to teach you about proper toilet-seat etiquette...next slide, please...okay, here you see..." Uh...yeah, I knew that. Ahem. Yeah. Man I'm really gettin' good at -ing Nope. The first one. Just insert 'Karate' into each instance of 'HTML', Mask-san, and that may clarify things a bit. You mean TOMORROW?!? D'OH!! Excuse me...I gotta go do some shopping.

Curiouser and curiouser... I want to come with you to Alderaan to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father... So THAT'S what you actually use office for, huh? And here I thought it was just the software package you were forced to buy if you wanted to use Word and Excel. Well, I guess it's time to break out that ol' Office 2000 cd again... Yours actually gets up to 28.8?!? Mine's lucky to get up to 5 kb/sec for data transfers. Of course, the connection says it's connected at a speed of about 50-55... Or, in the timeless, (altered) words of wisdom from Mr. Miyagi, "HTML yes, or HTML no...HTML 'guess so'...{SQUISH!}...just like grape." (for all you 'Karate Kid' fans) Okay, so I will do it this weekend.

See, it looks like English, it reads like English, yet in the end...I'm still scratching my head and going, "Huh?". What's Frontpage? And heck, how do even upload anything to a site that technically doesn't even exist yet? I know, I know...directions would have to be ISP specific, right? And lookee here...Earthlink even has an online tutorial for building a website. Gee...I guess I'm all outta excuses, huh? Well, I guess that'll be a new little project for me this weekend. Would now be a bad time to mention that I still have a 56K modem at home?

Sorry, no can do, Cain. I'm definitely not web-savvy enough create my own web site (despite the fact that I'm paying for 10 megs of space specifically for a web site, yet haven't the cajones to attempt anything with it). And besides, what I'm doing couldn't be considered a 'total' conversion. I'm leaving the game in the same time period (Rebellion era), and not attempting to change the story at all. The only things I'm changing are the pictures, the ships, and the characters to better reflect what I feel SHOULD have been included in the game to begin with. However, there's enough time and effort involved in even this little bit of change that it may as well be a total conversion. It has certainy taken up enough of my time to where I don't have enough for other games or projects. It's worth it, though, since it makes my Rebellion playing sessions that much more fun.

You know, Romania has always been an area of interest for me. Granted, Transylvania and its environs initially fueled the fire, but after researching Vlad Tepes, the Byzantine Empire, Janos Hunyadi & the Hungarians, etc. it really begins to change ones perception of the country. I was surprised to learn that Bucharest is considered the "Paris of Eastern Eupore", both for its centers of learning and ts architecture. All in all, it definitely is a place I'd love to visit sometime. Great to have you, Cain!
