  1. Again, sorry about that. I keep forgetting that I'm dealing with a lot of "English as a second language" people here. You know the old joke: A person that speaks three or more languages is multi-lingual. A person that speaks two languages is bi-lingual. A person that speaks only one language is an American. I speak a little Spanish...does that count?
  2. Aw, DAMN! Now I have even MORE to test out! I dunno, man. Makes sense to me, but since when has that mattered when it comes to game programming and the Rebellion AI?
  3. All the recharge rates I've seen are between 5 and 80. Like the Corellian Corvette, which normally has a recharge rate of 8 (I think). A rate of 1000 would be like having a rapid-fire laser, wouldn't it? Or am I thinking of the wrong attribute?
  4. Here's a question: do traitors ever 'return to the flock'? For example, if you were losing at one point and a character turns traitor (I've seen Jedi do it, too, btw), will they come back around if you start winning?
  5. Sorry. Just me trying to be funny about people who despise off-topic threads and who then punish or flame those responsible for breaking that particular taboo. It was funny when I typed it. Really.
  6. I have no CLUE what the fomula is. I always figured it was something like "number of shots per 60 seconds). Anyone with a better idea? Mask?
  7. Sounds good! You've gotta watch out for the dreaded thread-topic gestapo. No offense to anyone who's pet-peeve is threads that get off-topic, btw.
  8. Hmm...is there a noticeable difference if the shield value is dropped to zero, then? If not, then it might be better to just tinker with the maneuverability of each squadron, then. There has to be SOME value for shields, though. Y-Wings seem to last a lot longer than TIE Bombers...
  9. Distantly related. I can't stress that enough. I sure ticked off some of my friends when I rooted for him at Lillehammer rather than the American contingent. They kind of understood when I explained that he was family. Um, how'd you go about doing that? I thought the weapon recharge rate was faster the higher the value, and it isn't measured in minutes.
  10. Good point. I wish we had a tradition like that over here. A lot of these freakin' pansies would do well to appreciate the military. But enough ranting about that. A young 'un, eh? Man, you're makin' me feel old! I'm closin' in fast on 30. Still, it's a great choice. I can't speak for the Dutch military, but being in the US Army was surely a life-changing event for me, and for the better. Good luck with it!
  11. Yeah, I'm about as pure-bred a Dutchman as you can find over here. My great-grandfather came over here just before World War I. He hailed from Gronigen, and we got a change to visit some distant relatives up there when my father was stationed in Germany with the US Air Force. Turns out I'm distantly related to Rintje Ritsma, a.k.a. "The Flying Dutchman", whom Scathane (yet another Dutchman!) informs me is more-or-less a national hero over there. Gravity wells on a Corvette?!? And with a one-shot, one-kill turbolaser? Yeah, that's overkill alright...
  12. Dang, Dutch civilians have to salute privates in the Dutch military?!? Something ain't right there, Sith_Lord. Seriously tho, so you're entering the service, eh? Congrats!
  13. The one thing I was never happy with regarding the Y-Wing is the fact that so much is made of it's thicker armor (well, thicker than the X-Wing and A-Wing, at least) yet that isn't reflected in Rebellion. Squadron size equates to hull strength, but I can't just add more fighters to the squadron. So, I did the next best thing and bumped their shield strength up a little (to six or seven, I think). I'm in the process of testing 'em out, though, so don't hold me to that change just yet.
  14. Eh, I'm SURE he'll listen to reason. I can see it now: rather than "What if he doesn't survive? He's worth a lot to me," he'll say, "Whut say he get's kilt? Sumbuddy's gonna owe me some muhney!" Hey, now would ya look at that! I'm a sergeant now! Took me five years to get that in the Army and here I get it in a month and a half...
  15. ANOTHER Dutchman?!? That ROCKS!! One day we shall rule the world (again)! I tend to steer away from overpowered Corvettes. The one change I made was to give them Turbolasers, like they're actually credited with having. Nothing too heavy, since I don't want it to overtake the Carrack, so it has a Forward: 10 Port: 5 Starboard: 5 Aft: 5 rating. But at least then there's SOME justification for having a bombardment rating of 1.
  16. Yeah, well they can just stay there in oblivion, 'cause I'm diggin' the new 'me'. I'll just REALLY have to work at givin' him a good 'ol fashioned Texas drawl.
  17. Ah...kinda like my whole "Page" thing, eh? I'll have to give your 'delayed' X-Wing a try. If nothing else, it'll allow me to test your Mon Calamari cruiser bug.
  18. Thanks! Yeah, I had an .jpeg of Boba wearin' a cowboy hat, but lord knows where that went to. But yeah, I'll miss the lil' guy...
  19. Okay, I can see all that. I guess I'm one of those few who actually strives for balance in my starfighter forces by initially building them in a 3:2 ratio (X-Wing:Y-Wings). Heck, I'm still building Y-Wings in the end-phases of the game, since it allows me to strike capital ships with a bomber while the B-Wings draw away pressure and the X-Wings & A-Wings take care of the fighter screens. One question: I can accept the whole "X-Wing prototypes were all at Yavin" deal and how you translated it into Rebellion, but is that canon? I mean, is that from an actual source or is that an assumption? Otherwise it sounds good.
  20. Looks like I fixed it. Thanks, Sith_Lord!
  21. Tried using a local image. Got it under the required file limit, but it was a no-go thanks to the fire-wall here at work. I'll have to give it a try from home. Google might work, though. Whoa! I haven't tried this since the phpnuke update. How the heck do I change it now?!? It appears all I can do is choose from a list of smileys...
  22. That's just to keep them focused on what's ahead of 'em...like trees. Worked really well, didn't it? Oh! And they help keep the sun outta their eyes. The Biker Scouts are my favorites for several reasons. Their armor appears to be more flexible and utilitarian, even if inappropriate for a temperate forested climate. They'd have fared better if they had SOME kind of camo, but despite that they look pretty cool. Secondly, they had to have some pretty fine-tuned reflexes to be entrused with Imperial speeder-bikes as their only means of transportation on a heavily forested world, indicating they were a cut above the "elite marksmen" stormtroopers. Thirdly, they had to operate independantly of ANY kind of support other than their fellow scout troopers and their speeder bikes, indicating they were more of a ranger/special forces type of unit. Sure they may not have been the brightest bulbs in the universe, but they certainly seemed to be more kick-butt than your run-of-the-mill Storm Trooper or TIE pilot.
  23. It's pretty schweet, if you ask me. I couldn't get mine to work, so I'm stuck with a cowboy hat-wearin' smiley face.
  24. Remind me: what was your reasoning for delaying the X-Wing until research level 1? They had them at Yavin, after all, and I would think that with the limited number of shipyards available to the Rebels in the early game that they'd be very limited in their production to the aforementioned Y-Wings and Corellian Corvettes without the option of X-Wings. And without escort carriers that'd mean their only other options would be Bulk Cruisers, Bulk Transports, Medium Transports and Dreadnaughts? Man, that'd pretty much solve that whole "should I stay or should I go" dilemma for Dodonna, wouldn't it? And speaking of escort carriers, it turns out that the AI won't give you any Escort carriers initially using my method (eliminating the alliance version and making the Imperial version available to both sides). I've started a half-dozen games just to test my theory, and even on the easy level of difficulty there are no escort carriers for the Rebels. Combined with a few of the system changes I've toyed with and it sure bumps up the difficulty early on! What's even funnier is seeing the same fleet running from 20 mixed X-Wing and Y-Wing squadrons. 'Course, those same squadrons WILL take that fleet to school, so I guess I can't blame 'em. Too freaky! A fellow map-head! I just got my degree in Geography and Urban Planning this last December from U of Texas @ San Antonio! I'm a GIS Quality Assuarance/Digital Editor for a company here in SA now. You're not inspiring a lot of confidence in the degree by then going off to nursing school, ya know...
  25. Just ignore the reviews. Rebellion is NOT a game for twitch gamers. It really isn't a game for RTS gamers, either. Those two elements are what contributed to it's bad reviews, given the time frame in which most of those reviews were posted. Rebellion does not have one particular "style" or "niche" that it easily falls into, due to the fact that it contains so many different game elements. Rebellion is a game that incorporates RTS elements, character advancement, resource management, fleet combat, and jumbles them together in a gloriously random galaxy. It generally follows the post-"A New Hope" storyline, but I think the most endearing quality of the game is the fact that it DOESN'T slavishly adhere to the Star Wars storyline. The game may start off slow, but give it a few solid hours of gameplay before drawing your own conclusions. And if you have questions, anyone here on the boards will be willing to assist. After a game or five, you'll be hankerin' for some RebEd modding!
