Uh, what 'Danielle Steele' thing? And Cain, no worries: that was a joke.

Since there isn't an appropriate forum for discussing this game on the boards here, I figured I'd plop this topic here. I picked this game up yesterday at Half-Price Books for $6.99. I'd wanted to get it when it first came out awhile back but never did, mainly due to bad reviews. But, since the opinions of people here far outweigh what some 'professional' game reviewer has to say, I'd rather take y'alls advice. So...is this game worth playing?

Well, it figures that I wouldn't see this until well after the fact. I'm off hunting for a bounty for two days and the whole freakin' forum explodes. Elvis, your reputation preceedes you, but I was nowhere NEAR prepared enough for this kind of "canned rubbery meat-like substance". Jahled my man, congratulations on your prolific postiness! I look forward to experiencing 2000 more "Random Posts of WOO!" from you. And as for the new rank and insignia...too cool, although I have to agree with the "gif Jedi" comment.

...but in a funny, endearing way. Sort of.

I'll see if I can't find mine. I don't have access to a scanner, but I'd be happy to send it to someone who does...provided I can get it back.

Set myself up for that one, didn't I?

Good to hear. It's tough being the only regular-posting Dutchman (okay, Dutch-American ) here amongst all these Englishmen and Germans. Oh, and Costa Ricans. BBL is Brass_Bra Leia, the username of my lovely and talented wife, who has also agreed to do the lines for Leia in the Reloaded TC. Although the fourth one from the bottom would be accurate, too.

Okay, so you're saying that if my hair's blond and yours is black and my eyes are blue and yours are brown that those are the same difference between the two of us because we're only two different things?! You gon on to call this line of reasoning logic?! Whatever you say Elvis... I think, perhaps, what he's trying to say is that you need a third variable for which to have the 'same difference'. For example, my hair is brown and my eyes are blue. Therefore, you and I have the 'same difference' in eye-color from Elvis'.

LMAO!! Oh, man, that's great! I hope to never run afoul of your .gif/pic manipulation mockery skills, Trej!

Avatar joke there, my robed friend. The prosecution rests, your honor.

I can just picture him: a withered Emperor Palpatine, hunched over his computer monitor, staring at the forums main page, hitting the 'Refresh' buttion repeatedly to see if there are any new posts.

How's it goin', Scath? Now see, if you'd read through the whole 6-pages of 'hijacked' thread, you'd know that I sort of apologized for doing it. Besides, this 'hijacked' thread is one of the big reasons why BBL is now a poster here.

Congrats, Elvis! Man, that must've been one heck of a weekend in here; you posted #3000 only yesterday and you're already up to 3050.

Just so long as the person doing Thrawn's voice {cough}Mask{cough} doesn't have a southern drawl. That'd put a...weird twist to a few of his lines. Although, it may cause people to draw a few connections to Dubya.

All 'woos', 'yays', and 'kudos' should be directed to swaaye and not me, I'm afraid. I've been e-mailing and PMing back and forth with him for several days now, trying to figure out how to best get his manual up for the community here after I saw his post here. I've PM'd Evanders about seeing if we could host it here, but he hasn't gotten back to me as of yet.

Howdy, Battlestar. I read a bad review of this game somewhere that likened its gameplay to 'playing with a Star Wars-themed spreadsheet'. In the most general of terms, they are correct. That said, it's one helluva 'spreadsheet'! The game's asset management is unlike most RTS games in that it is part RTS and part turn-based, due to the 'days' aspect of the timekeeping. Here's some advice, though: *Click on everything. *Click here to order the game's strategy guide; it'll provide you with a wealth of information. Or, click here to download a 21 meg .pdf of the manual, in greyscale, courtesy of swaaye. (Evanders, let me know and I'll gladly remove that last little bit) *Realize that once you select something, the game then wants you to click somewhere else to tell it where you want that thing to happen/travel to/ etc. *Read the encyclopedia entries of all the units, characters, ships, etc. *Right click on everything and select 'status' to see the stats on the character (this is especially useful when trying to figure out when a unit will arrive at its destination). *Use your characters; an inactive character is a waste. Keep them busy, but NEVER send them on a mission without support from a Special Forces Unit (again, look at the encyclopedia entries), and even then, be sure to use decoys. *Use the icons display abilities of the interface (the 'computers' behind R2-D2) to display different assets. *Right click on C-3P0 to bring up a menu; he has a lot of useful things to tell you (but once you're sick of him...and you WILL become sick of him...uncheck his 'translate counterpart' option to shut him up. Note that you can do the same for R2-D2). Note that asking him to 'Manage Production' or to 'Manage Garrisons' gives him proxy control of your construction yards and troop training facilities. *Save often, if not every 'day'. You'll understand why very early in your Rebellion experience. *Look at the top of your screen. The three boxes together display your mined material, refined materials, and maintenence points. Learn the costs of contructing your units, and the relationship between mined material (from mines), refined material (produced from raw material, it's the 'cost' associated with building a new unit; try to keep this number above '0' to avoid slowdowns in production), and maintenence points (1 mine + 1 refinery = 50 maintenence points; keep this number as high as possible; if it goes negative, you'll have to start scrapping things.). Here's a quick starter tutorial: Right click on an object to bring up a menu with a list of options for that object. Left click on objects to select them and to 'finalize' commands. For example: Start a game as the Rebels. Listen to C-3P0's briefing, and take note of everything he says. Once he's done, right click on that field in the upper left that says '2'. This keeps track of game time, expressed in days. Right clicking on it brings up a menu that allows you to change the game speed. For now, set it on 'Very Slow'. Now, run your cursor over the galaxy map until you find the Sumitra sector (middle right). Left click on it, and find Yavin. Double click the little turret icon in the lower left of the planet. This will bring up a menu box that will contain portraits of several characters, and by clicking on the tabs at the top, you can see the other assets the planet has to offer. Right click on Han Solo. This will bring up a menu listing your current options for things to do with him. For right now, select mission. The cursor will change to a cross-hairs. Click on the open field below the characters. A dialogue box will open, asking you what type of mission you'd like to run on the planet. If you scroll down, you should see what his options are. Select 'Recruitment' and click the check mark. Han will now disappear, although a little Rebel icon will have appeared next to the planet on the lower right. Congratulations! You've just issued your first order for the game. Get set for about a trillion more before you've beaten the game. You'll develop your own strategies and tricks that work for you along the way, but most of the game consists of selecting a unit and issuing it orders. It's pretty simple, but it can get hectic sometimes. Sorry. I know that's a lot of very generalized information, but I hope it helps. Search GameFaqs for more detailed walkthroughs and analysis of ships and stuff. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them in the 'Questions from Newbies' section, or PM one of the moderators or any of the regular posters here. Good luck!

I got my guide shortly after getting Rebellion 'way back in the day', too. That was in the good 'ole days, when my but was handed to me by the AI on 'Easy', when I was so thrilled beyond belief when my first Mon Cal cruiser rolled off the line...and then a Death Star showed up and blew it to smithereens...and then I whooped and leapt out of my chair when my X-Wings blew it to kingdom come after two failed runs involving A-Wings and B-Wings... [/nostalgia] But anyway...it's a great 'must have' for Rebellion enthusiasts. It has some decent strategies, but nothing ground-breaking for regulars here.

Well, it was with our previous computer, so the problem doesn't exist for us now. However, we were running MS Outlook, although I couldn't tell you which version. And yes, it was with EVERY e-mail. You could start typing a reply, and halfway through it would change font size and color. Weird stuff. C'mon, guys! Just a few more requests from the group at large and she may just do it! Yeah, they mentioned that in the interview (I watched it with BBL). I haven't seen any of the 'Scream' movies, but she WAS in "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back". She was also in "Charlie's Angels 2", the first Austin Powers movie, "When Harry Met Sally", and then there were her "Coversations from the Edge". Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

And here I was, wondering if I'd somehow loaded one of my Star Wars desktop themes.

I wasn't aware that there was a 'new' version. That's another one to add to the "list of movies I intend to eventually watch". Oh, so it's a quality job, then? No mis-translated titles or anything?

A few RebED questions from a new guy
Texas_Fett replied to TheImperialGuardsmen's topic in Rebellion Editing
I'd say the best way to achieve the balance intended for the game (and to return a bit of the difficulty level to it) would be to re-establish research levels. That is always the Rebel's greatest hindrance in the game, and removing those levels gives them an ENORMOUS advantage. The only real advantage the Imperials get from such an arrangement is access to TIE Defenders from the beginning, which pretty much makes those other three starfighter slots irrelevant. That said, you could do things like make the SSD available from research level 1 or so (to reflect the movies), and that will make for a rather intimidating obstacle in the early game. Another thing you could do would be to reduce your opponent's manufacturing costs by half while doubling yours, rather than just reducing both sides' costs to 1. Why you'd want to build anything besides SSD's and Defenders when playing as the Empire with your changes, I can't imagine. Hmm...no clue there; I've never had more than one or two SSD's in my fleet (another good reason to change up your construction costs, IMHO). I've noticed the fighter thing that Mask mentioned above, but only with Imperial fleets that have fighters which have to deploy from capital ships and fighters of the same type that are part of the planetary garrison. -
{sigh} You'll understand once you read the books. I read the first book (and saw the movie) waaaaay back in '93 during a high school "Fiction and Literature" class. It was alright, but it was no Star Wars. No, I saw "The Mask" two or three times, not to worry. As for your DVD, is it in German or English? 'Cause I'd think it'd be weird to see a dubbed Jim Carrey.

Well, you did, it's just that "Rivendell" isn't the 'elven' term for the place; that's the human rendition of the elven name for it, "Imladris". It could be worse...my reaction could've been more like this. Speaking of which, I ran across some .wavs from the movie that are pretty funny.

Scathane! You're back! How's everything in Rotterdam?
