  1. Scott Kurtz is a BIG Star Wars fan (and he lives in Dallas!), but he's a gaming fan in general, and a product of the '80s. Read his comic, buy his gear, exult in all that is geek!
  2. Another poor soul lost to SW:Galaxies! For the PvP perspective on this, check this out (it's the strips for 3 July 2003 through the 17th), and then this after it cuts out, as it wraps up on the 30th and 31st. One or two of the jokes will really only make sense if you're a fan of the comic (which I am), and I recommend the strip to every gamer fan. I suggest starting at the beginning of his archives and working your way forward, but just be prepared for a couple thousand strips, since he posts a new one every day.
  3. Actually, Bilbo was 50 years old when the events of 'The Hobbit' took place, the same age Frodo was when he left for the events of 'The Lord of the Rings'. Of course, that's in 'Hobbit Years', and since hobbits aren't considered adults until they hit 33...
  4. That's when I'm up for work every day, except Wednesdays. I go for a morning run, and she goes whenIi get back. Then I'm in to work by 6:30, and checking all the e-mail notices I've gotten saying that there's been a new post to a topic.
  5. Could be...I'm not exactly up on my l337 speak.
  6. Thanks, Scathe, I was just going to post something to that effect. Anyone happen to remember the Normans and the Saxons? Battle of Hastings, anyone? The German influence is much deeper than the use of 'Kindergarten'. 'Father' & 'Vater', 'Mother' and 'Mutter', etc. As Scathe pointed out, it's because both languages stem from a common origin. It then stands to reason that whole words would easily make their way from one group to another. What's really funny about the whole discussion is that it takes a Dutchman and a Dutch-American to point it out.
  7. Man, I can't believe I never answered this thread! That would be the Bantha-class Assault Shuttle. It's in the 'New Essential Guide to Vehicles'. I'd have to say that my favorite Rebellion capital ship is the Nebulon-B. I've often found myself getting carried away with their production. Three of them cost only a slight bit more than a Mon Cal cruiser, yet you're getting loads more firepower and double the starfighter complement. Two of them are more than a match for a Victory SD, and three of them will thrash an ISD. My favorite RebEd craft are the MC40a and the MC80b. While stats are going to be different for everyone, I've tried to keep mine proportional to the WEG stats and the ship's 'official' stats. My favorite starfighter is the B-Wing, although flying around in a TIE Defender in XWA is a blast.
  8. Thank you, professor.
  9. I usually keep Han, Leia, and Luke on Yavin until day 60. In an unedited game, there shouldn't be an Imperial Task Force that can get there before then. This will give you ample time to recruit 4-8 characters. Mon Mothma stays put at the HQ until day 100-120, whereupon she leaves for Diplomacy missions. Wedge, Chewie, and Dodonna load up on whatever ship is parked over Yavin and head to the nearest shipyard in the Core, A.S.A.P. Chewie bases out of this system against nearby Imperial worlds, while Wedge (or Dodonna in my game ) researches and Dodonna diplomes (or Wedge harasses Imperial fleets with the fledgling Rebel fleet and his 733t starfighter ski11z, given my changes ). At day 60, everyone loads up on the Millennium Falcon, and Han taxi's them to the nearest sector in need of characters (although, I tend to send the first 2-3 characters recruited into the core prior to Han leaving Yavin, just so that I don't waste time). I'll drop off Leia to have her diplome, along with an 'Admiral' and 'Commander' character for the Sector Fleet, as well as one dedicated 'Espionage & Combat' specialist, assuming they are recruited. Then, Han & Luke and the remaining characters move on to the next sector. Luke stays there, and will diplome until a planet is at 100% loyalty. Then he starts recruiting. Han continues on, dropping characters off as needed, before recruiting on a planet with 100% loyalty. This usually means that I have recruitment done by day 200-250. Those remaining days prior to Luke jetting off to Dagobah finds him performing espionage and sabotage missions, hoping for foiled missions to increase his Force rating. In the rare occasion in which Vader or the Emperor is found away from Coruscant, the planet is blockaded and Luke is ferried there post-haste. The garrison is eliminated by a non-Force user or bombardment, and after 2-3 abduction missions on the Emperor/Vader by Luke, he's ranked as a Jedi Student or Jedi Knight. Other characters are ferried to that spot in the hopes that Luke will discover their Force potential before he leaves for Dagobah. Once he returns, he is free to begin training the characters. But that's just how I do things. It may not work out so well for you.
  10. Will do.
  11. Not that I know of, J-man. Trying to pronounce "Cassini-Huygens" sounded somewhat like someone sneezing, so I posted a typical response, albeit in German (I know in my family we either say "God Bless You" or "Geshundheit" when someeone sneezes). It was funny when i thought it. Really. Ahem. [quick change of subject] So, did you get the character write-ups I sent you? [/quick change of subject]
  12. Geshundheit!
  13. Oh, I'm sure it's just the fact that he was acting in a different role at the time.
  14. Somebody's been watching "Pirates of the Carribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" again, eh? Captain Jack Sparrow is Johnny Depp's best role ever.
  15. Here's another view of that ship, albeit an oblique one. It's in the upper left, in the asteroids.
  16. I don't know if any of you have had a chance to play this game, but if you haven't, you most definitely should! It's so much more than the old RS for the Nintendo 64, but I won't bore you with info you can get from any review. Suffice to say, it rocks! Although, guess I should say that perhaps its best feature is the inclusion of the complete version of Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, but as cooperative. It also has a vs. mode, allowing you to dogfight with a buddy. One thing which may be of interest here, is this image, or more specifically the capital ship in the top middle. It's not the best image, but it's the best one I could find of that ship. I've done this mission, and the game calls that ship an Imperial Escort Carrier! I've never seen it before, and the games surely shouldn't be taken as 'canon', but it does make for an interesting topic for debate.
  17. i.e., follow the guidelines set forth in the "Elvismiggell Guide to Message Board Spamming", eh?
  18. Gladius is a very underrated game. I rented it for the PS2 and both BBL and I enjoyed playing it. The 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' aspect of combat is intriguing, as is the magic aspect. The strategy needed to win, along with the 'training' of the gladiators in your stable makes this an incredibly addictive game. There's a slight learning curve, but it's well worth checking out. In fact, it's going to become part of my library of Gamecube games in the near future.
  19. Probably around the same time I hit 1000.
  20. Thanks guys! I guess I'll just have to load it up and give it a shot, although the impression I get is that I shouldn't expect the same type of captivating magic that Rebellion still holds for me.
  21. Shhhh! Otherwise you-know-who will see it! But didn't I tell you Texas Girls are great?
  22. Take a look in each forum and then see who the latest poster for each topic is, and the time of the post. That'll give you your answer. Oh, and he's also 'selectively exercising' his moderator powers, too. One thing's for certain, he's sure livened up the place.
  23. That wasn't what i said in my post! Hello, security? We have some serious 'Moderator Power Abuse' going on here!
  24. Oh, suuurrre. Got it. Personally i find them to be exceptionally emotional... whenever i nick them off BBL i always make sure to have some tissues nearby to dry my eyes with. Note: this post was edited by a certain moderator who wears black robes and shoots lightning from his fingertips. What it REALLY said was: "Oh, suuurrre. Got it. Don't worry, your secret's safe with me. " EDIT: What can i say? Black's my colour!!!
  25. Ah. Must've missed that one. So...do you?
