... either, you mean ?
-
Whoa, priceless advice from a real master ! I´m not worthy ! No, seriously, thank you ! I can´t wait to try these hints in a game.
-
BTW: 114 posts? Gee, what does a guy have to do to make captain on this forum ?
-
@ R2-Opus2 (still *such* a cool name. -Princess Pistaccio-): I don´t use Rebed so 48 shipyards are *not* an option. I´m generally happy to cling on to a couple of good planets. The opportunities for space combat sound really cool though.

Woohoo, that´s what I call I critcal hit ! (Probably hit the bridge while the shields were down and the emergency bridge unmanned so the SSD spun out of control and slammed in a moon ... It *happens* you know.) That´s probably the saddest story I´ve ever heard, NOT. "Oops where did my flagship go ?"
-
Again I have to admit that so far I´ve managed to lose every game I´ve played (to the end) before I got anywhere near a Liberator. Although I daresay that I had very good opponents.
-
Thanks people. It seems I´ll be going to order a lot more fighters and carriers. But don´t let that stop you from bringing on the hints !
-
Thank you all and keep it coming. To the_mask: Thanks for the link. It´s cool. Although really that was more of a rhethorical question meaning you never get to build the really big ships in multiplayer (well, I don´t anyway).
-
Easy, you simply should´ve built 6 Bulwarks and 15 CCs to defend Yavin. No, seriously your copy of the game must really hate you. That´s what you get for constantly humiliating the AI.
-
Hmm, I thought I had left no doubt about that.

But still the first politicians can be heard advocating a constitutional amendment to change just that ... On a personal note I think that would be logical. Why should the presidency be restricted to people born in the US if the entire Union was created by immigrants ? Question is: can we really imagine a Pres. Schwarzenegger ? But then : We got used to a President Reagan didn´t we ? (Though not to GWB, never that ...)

Thanks for your contribution. I´m not sure that concentrating on a single core sector is enough against a good opponent. I forgot to mention that the aforementioned game is multiplayer. I feel the rim usually doesn´t offer enough resources to make up for abandoning most of the core systems to the Empire. Also I figure if the Imps can sabotage 1 of 2 gencores they can also do 2 so there´s not much point in building 3. What do you think ? On a side note: What are Bulwark Cruisers ? I never got to build them yet. Games against the AI are usually won before I get there and in multiplayer I´m happy if I ever manage to build mon cals. Not to mention 30 (!) Bulwarks ...
-
Ha ! I bet you did that against the feckless AI. Probably had the setting on "easy" too. I dare you to try this against my Rebels in a multiplayer session.

Great, but what kind of ship should I build? From what I´ve heard, the Neb-B is great value for the cost. Besides, I usually don´t have much choice of ships before the Imps put me out of comission. Fighters are neat but: - they die fast compared to cap ships - need a transport to get to the enemy - can´t stand up to a sizeable invasion fleet even in large numbers. Therefore I´m currently trying to put my production in cap ships. Of course I try to keep the Neb-Bs stacked with fighters, but when losses occur they have to go it alone. In one of my recent games I tried to protect my planets with fighters (usually 6 squadrons each). When my opponent attacked with a large invasion fleet including numerous lancers or carracks, the fighters died quickly without doing any damage.

Where on earth do voters get the notion that it´s a good idea to elect an actor to do a politicians job ? It seems fame and connections are everything in american politics. As the saying goes: Every people has the government they deserve (ours explicitely NOT excluded). Anyone remember the "Schwarzenegger Presidential Library" joke in Demolition Man? Somehow this never struck me as especially unrealistic...

Those who played me know I like to play rebels...and tend to have problems keeping up with the Imps. I understand the Empire has the advantage in ships and production at the start of the game while the rebels have better characters or at least more potential for character development. So how do I turn this in a winning strategy? In my current game I concentrated on recruiting all characters quickly and blowing up imperial mines and building sites with an endless series of sabotage missions. Also I tried to secure key planets with 2 gencores, sullustan troops and a general. My problems are the same as in every game: big imperial fleets I can´t really engage hanging around over my planets, slowly but surely knocking them out. I still have a number of the abovementioned key planets, but building up a useful fleet is slow although I almost exclusively build Neb-Bs. So, am I on the right track or do I fail to play they Rebels according to their strengths? Any suggestion is appreciated.

How realistic are the last 15 minutes of Return of the Jedi
BoShek replied to igorimp's topic in General Discussion
Just goes to show what sore losers the Imps are. -
Point taken. I never questioned your loyality on that one. For me Dark Forces has long been the best first person shooter I´ve played. Although my vote would probably go to TIE FIGHTER (asuming that voting for REBELLION is not an option). Now where´s that poll ?

Scathane is absolutely right of course ! How about: Immaculately conveived child prodigy of carpenter family starts new religion gets himself crucified and saves plain everybody in a glaxy not so far away in the process ? Now there are enough people ready to believe that without a question. Realism just doesn´t come into it. Ergo: If you believe in the force, the Rebels just did it. End of discussion. Looking forward to "How realistic are are the last 15 minutes of the bible?" thread. No, scratch that ! *mustn´t make fun of religion, mustn´t make fun of religion, mustn´t ...* -
Newsletter ? Hmm, depends on what´s in it. It would be neat to get a rundown of the discussions happening in the forum or receive word that new downloads are available. Question is: Is it worth the effort to compile it when everyone can just go to the forums or download sections ?

Well sorry Jahled, but the mention of Dark Forces always makes me feel warm and squishy inside. Also I need the post (going on 100) now. Besides: When have I ever been good for solid info? You should know better than that.

Hooray, I did something right ! Me good! Also, great work on the analysis igorimp. Question is, what conclusion can be derived from it? -

I think vakundok is making a strong case here. The Imperial Fleet was effectively ordered to stand down. Piett encountered a new tactic but had his hands tied by the emperors *personal* orders backed up by the threat of execution if he so much as made the impression that he disobeyed. Just imagine the consequences if Piett and Palpi had surivived but the emperor was convinced Piett had spoiled the turning of Luke to the dark side ... Alas, history provides us with plenty examples of officers following suicidal orders out of complete loyality to some madman. So basically, the combined firepower of the Imperial Fleet is of no use if they do not dare use it. Something else I noticed is the assumed kill ratio of imperial vs. rebel fighters of 2:1 derived from Yavin 4. This strikes me as far too low. I remember reading somewhere (the X-Wing novel series?) a ratio of *7* to 1 for X-Wings vs. Tie-Fighters. Even if the Imps had mostly Interceptors at Endor, 2:1 strikes me as too low. Besides I also read (definitely in those books this time) that imperial pilots were basically cannon fodder receiving little training and beeing kept close to the edge psychologically to make them more aggressive. That´s why noone bothered to give them shields or decent life support. This of course contradicts ANH. I understand we are supposed to see the movies as the ultimate source for facts which brings me to the ultimate unassailable point: The Rebels won in ROTJ so they can´t have been outgunned to the point of leaving them no chance. See ? -
Is that for real? Looks like I´ll have to invest in a few ´sports!
