Talk to Gank and Mask about modelling; I guess they would appreciate your help. There are pics of a made-up model for the Republic at http://saxman.xwlegacy.net As far as I know, nobody has yet completed a Republic model for Rebellion, so that desperately needs doing.

I think XWA claimed the Chimaera being an Impstar Deuce, but it also had the Corruptor being an Impstar Deuce and getting blown apart while it was an VSD-II and was destroyed by Rogue Squadron during the Bacta War, so XWA is no reliable source.

Venix, get your pretty butt to one of the teams and start working! We are in need of help. The cards people especially. Welcome back, if you really are. (Having difficulties to trust my eyes.)

Hey, why do you not work up a Black Fleet Crisis TC? Determination and skill, paired with motivation should get you fairly well along the line. As for "our" TC: The time period is different, and we really have to use those standard ships (it isn't Star Wars without them; look at EP I). Care to join the modeling team? I guess Gank and Mask would be very pleased if at least some of the strain is taken off their backs.

Charecter Names : Appear as default in game ?
Tsunami replied to Master_DeLos's topic in Rebellion Editing
I would recommend editing names in the dlls in general. This way, you can make the names 'fitting' with their exact length. You can even edit rank designations (i.e. let the game say Grand Admiral Thrawn). It's all in textstra.dll. Refer to Mask's dll info file for the exact adresses. -
I think Chimaera has played a too historical role to simply perish in a battle. Hopefully, we'll see more ship deaths like Lusankya's. But Chimaera: Backup flagship after Executor, Thrawn's ship aboard which he died; captured and recaptured, nearly destroyed two times; even the historical peace between the NR and the Imperial Remnant was signed on it. Heck, I just love that old hunk of junk. I was happy as a child on christmas when I got Chimaera for the CCG.

He varies really much. There are some bad books (concerning the Luke-writing) like the first of NJO or the Black Fleet Crisis and The New Rebellion. Other books like Star by Star or The Truce at Bakura fit him more. I think that Luke has the least consitency concerning writing style of all charcters in all books. It all depends on the author.

Yes, and it has the best part of the soundtrack. Indeed, my favourite piece of soundtrack ever. The asteroid scene in EP II is better action and effect-wise, but the atmosphere and general feel just do not keep up.

Clouded everything is. The Dark side, I suspect. That's just the way it is. Except for the HQ and Coruscant, ships are random. It's th code. Or the Force.

What was it that really RUINED the Empire?!
Tsunami replied to igorimp's topic in General Discussion
I would argue that Palpatine's concept of a power elite was the Empire's doom. All those politicians and people from the economy scheming to gain power... Xixor is a good example, since a syndicate like the Black Sun could only thrive in a highly corrupt society. Xixor only worked for his own benefit (like everyone else) and proposed to let the Rebels have the new Death Star's plans. We all know where that led to. Ouf course, this system had been there for hundreds of generations, and it still is not rooted out, though the GFFA seems to be more strict in that regard. I'd say it was the people around Palpatine; which he put there himself. All this applies to the New Republic, too. It was the power elite that did not understand how to build a system that was not ruled by the wrong people. Fey'lya was a brillinat politician, but in his vision was only space for himself and maybe the Bothan race. -
To me, it's a very difficult vote if I try to base my opinion on character rather than looks. Leia is the most authentic character and is actually written quite well in most books (unlike, say, Luke). And in some regards she even stands up to Portia in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. I really don not know anything of Padme apart from the films and a bit background, so there she goes. Jaina is the most difficult to judge. All those books when the young Solos were just toddlers and kiddies... they gave me the creeps. Anyone read The Crystal Star? Worst SW book EVER; and a prime example. Jaina then developed rather well in the NJO, best of all in Dark Journey and the Allston books (his writing is hilarious to superb). But in Remnant and Refugee, she is rather boring. Vote goes to Leia.

Yup. But sometimes, my Luke confronts Vader, gets captured and is not taken to the Emperor. I think this has something to do with Palpatine being in hyperspace etc. Could also be related to the Emperor being at a non-Coruscant location, though I think the final battle can take place anywhere (I am not so certain about ships in orbit around planets you do not control).

Some people figured it out; I think it was Mask with a little help. There should be a fighters tutorial in the downloads section. If not, you 'll have to wait for Mask's site to come back online.

Now that we know what people like about TESB, I'd like to speculate why people do not like Episodes I and IV. Episode one is quite simple: It does not have the feel. Many many cool ideas, concepts, characters etc, but it is a patchwork. Was it supposed to be a Disney movie, or why is there such a thing like Jar Jar Something? The second major baddie buys the farm in his second battle. What are these force-things called? Midi-chlorians? Ha, don't make me laugh, they sound too much like Mitochondrien (dunno what is the English term for them). It's just bogus. Or C-3PO contructed by Anakin. In Ep IV, he is supposed being operational without memory wipe for 112 years. The whole Trade Federation and their reasons for risking the destruction of their whole guild is just rubbish. Hmph. I really do not like the character of Anakin Skywalker in Ep 1, but the Pod Race is really cool. Just like the fight with Maul. The Jedis' fights with the droids are nothing to make anyone proud, though. As for Episode IV, it was the first. The solo movie, which got extended to two (three, maybe) trilogies. Of all films it feels the youngest, the most fairy-tale like. But it also has two great actors: Sir Peter Cushing could be the definition of a hard villain, and the other Sir fills the screens with his calm presence. The lightsaber duel is very tame compared to the whirlwind in Episode I & II, but an event nontheless. What really bothers me is that Episode I & II throw the whole consitency out of the window. What all Star Wars authors since Heir to the Empire tried to create as a fitting system, the new films break. Just the appearance of the DS or the Threepio issue ruin the whole EU.

Well, if you asked for the favourite author, it would be definetely Aaron Allston. I think starfighters of Adumar is best, but Rebel Dream/Rebel Stand are pretty good, too. He just combines humor, characters and story in the right way to make excellent reads. Could you make the poll more specific? I would vote for Allstons X-Wing books, but not Stackpoles (or rather, some of them, like Rogue Squadron and Isard's Revenge, the other are very good.). NJO is very inhomogenous. I liked Star by Star, Stackpole's and Allston's books, but I could not get much from James Luceno. Traitor was different, but an excellent read. The force heretic trilogy is good on story, but not on characters. And there is the original Han Solo Trilogy, which is unsurpassed in character display.

I worked up some ship stats in MS Excel and sent them to Monsh. They are a rough estimate at best with some uncertainirtes, but it should be helpful. Since I have no webspace I cannot offer them for download, but I will send them to any team member who requests it. PM me if you want them.

(Please forgive me for not reading all of the 10 pages back; it became tough when the discussion drifted too far from SW.) I like the rebels more than the Empire, but my favourite movie is definetly TESB, too. It has the best atmosphere, the most realistc touch etc. (and most of the other things mentioned). And of course: The asteroid field scene. And Han being frozen. Anyone who has read any David Gemmel novel will agree with me and Scath that tragic heroes are the best (geez, Echoes of a Great Song and Ravenheart were best so far), and tragic stories are even better if that's possible. TESB featured Boba Fett and all those other bounty hunters (my favourite: Zuckuss. SWCCG, anyone?). Lando. Spectres of Han's past. The battle of Hoth can serve as a symbol of rebel fighting. The fight was hopeless and only took place because they had no other chance to escape. Outnumbered, outgunned but not out-fought. This was rebel fighting. They lost more men and material than the imps, but they still WON since the Empire did not achieve any of its main goals. It showed much of the Empire's evil and why and how it was fought. TESB also had the most reasonable story line of all films, IMO. So basically the rebel fans like the film best because HOW things happen and not WHAT things happen. Now, can we rebel fans earn the right to like EP IV, too?

The outcome of the final battle is determined by Luke's force rating. If he has 100+ (Jedi Knight), he wins and takes Vader and the Emperor. Luke starts with a force rating of 50; Dagobah adds another 30 or so (student). The easiest way to push his force rating is to send him alone to heavily guardd planets so his mission gets foiled. If he escapes, his force rating increases. Sending him down from a fleet to a blockaded planet and having a backup team to break him free works best. The FASTEST way is to let him confront Palpatine (messing with Vader gets him captured most of the time) since (if he gets away), his force rating increases dramatically and he becomes Jedi Master after three or four tries. Leia's increase is very minor compared to that. And yes, Leia confronting Vader/Palpatine is a special event, but the FINAL BATTLE is only Luke. Correct me if I am wrong, but the final battle on occurs when Luke is captured at Vader's location and taken to the Emperor by Vader automatically (doesn't always happen, i.e. when Palpatine is en route to somewhere), not when he is captured by someone else and taken to Coruscant manually. The savest place for Luke is definetely diplomacy in the Outer Rim.

It's just like characters: Certain slots are flagged for starting ships to be taken from them. Numbers are related to the whole maintainance isssue, placement is highly random except for Judicator (Coruscant) and with a greater chance that imperial ships start at planets with low loyalty. I do not really know about character placement except for the obvious things (Yavin, HQ ect.) The rebel HQ gets at least two ships, one of which is a transport (or rather from the slot used for the Medium Transport in classic Rebellion).

There are some guys working on a NJO TC for XWA and have some models and pics of it (unofficial, of course). Their site used to be at http://njoproject.skywalkeronline.net . If that adress does not work, try the link at Darksaber's OPT station http://www.darksaber.freeserve.co.uk/.

Is there a way to create fleets that you begin a game with?
Tsunami replied to a topic in Rebellion Editing
Look up the 'Starting Fleet?' topic further down the page; a great deal of connections concerning the fleet issue are discussed there. -
I had a talk with vakundok on this issue and he believes the differences between shields could be related to repair value. To me, this makes more sense than hull, and it would explain a great deal of things. I believe every salvo has a certain chance of knocking out shield generators (most of the time, ships lose their generators BEFORE the shield is completely down), most likely depending on its strength (there has to be a facor for normal lasers, something like 1/10 or something). If so, the shield regeneration gets diminished so that the ship is actually much more vulnerable to other allacks. The repair value determines the time it takes the ship to repair damage, both in tactical combat and on the strategy screen. It could also be that it reduces the chance of components being knocked out (and with it maybe the vulnerability to ion cannon fire, too). There appear to be certain steps in diminishing the shield regeneration value, but I do not have a savegame handy to confirm it. Something like fourths, fiths or sixths, I guess. All this could explain some of the inconsitencies.

Direwolf75: I did not notice anything like this so far, but I am really lazy... I cannot say for sure, but the Bulwark equally took down nearly the whole shield of both ISD I or Lancer wit one salvo. Either this shield-to-hull-factor is not that great or it has something to do with to-hit values. Heck. I don't know if there is a thing like to-hit-values, but I suspect there is (what else would fighter maneuverability be good for, else?). I will run a test on this shield issue. If Direwolf is right, the whole calculation will get a bit more complicated but more accurate.

Sumitra cannot be turned to high importance since it has Yavin with its seperate starting conditions in it. You can, however, cange all the planets except Yavin to populated manually. If so, the Empire starts with the knowledge of the HQ's position.

The usual place, like almost everything else connected with Rebellion. This site's download section.
